Report: Liam Coen Tells Bucs, See Ya!
January 23rd, 2025It appears Joe can now start to refer to Liam Coen as “former Bucs offensive coordinator.”
Per Jeff Howe of The Athletic, Coen has informed the Bucs he won’t be back with the team. He’s moving on.
He found another job.
Coen told the Bucs he will accept an offer as the new coach of the Jags.
There are reports floating around that Coen was offered “Ben Johnson money,” which is some $13 million annually. Oh, and Coen gets to pick his general manager.
Hey, Joe can’t blame any guy for bolting for $13 million a year to run your own NFL franchise even if it is in snowy Jacksonville.
But the way Coen went about it using a sick child as a shield to hide why he (allegedly) wouldn’t respond to the Bucs all day while instead (allegedly) secretly fly to Jacksonville (allegedly) without the Bucs knowledge (if you believe multiple reports). That’s shady.
Liam Coen has informed the Buccaneers that he'll be taking the Jaguars head coaching job, per sources.

NFL jobs are all about optics and PR. If you are still entertaining the job you don’t tell everyone yotir coming back then high tail it the day after. Would not have blamed him for taking the loot, but he handled it extremely unprofessionally and without much integrity imo. He doesn’t have that much clout yet, just one year of play calling. If he fails early then it will be a very short sighted move. GMs and owners talk. Of course if he does succeed it won’t matter. Heck of a gamble. Feel like he would have been better honouring his deal for a year and if be ddi well would have better opportunities potentially. You might say well he could have had a bad yesr.. well then he likely wouldn’t have succeeded as a HC I’d that was the case

January 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 pm
I think this winds up being a mistake for him but we all should have seen this coming given his path to us. Jags have a crazy weird owner, their team is a mess, and you have no idea who the GM is going to be.
It would tie up this episode perfectly if the crazy Jags owner gets Coen signed and then brings back the GM.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 pm
Since his dog ate his homework, oughtta deny him any permission whatsover to staffraid in Tampa. Lock him out of One Buc Rollercoaster,
And leave his bagpipe on the curb.
Liam think he Don Shula lol
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 pm
I don’t like how he did it but I understand it. Thanks for the season. I hope Bucs beat the Jags as long as you are their coach.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 pm
Just the guy you want leading your team
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:00 pm
Too bad, but I trust TB and JL – they’ve nailed their hires, and more quality candidates will be lining up to get a shot a being a NFL HC in one year — err the Bucs OC.
It does kinda make you wonder if TB and JL would knock a DC hire out of the park.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:01 pm
in his contract was a vacation share on the gaza strip
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:02 pm
Why the Glazers hold on to Bowles is beyond me. He’s year-to-year at best and has never truly had success here.
You let a bright young guy, a proven successful coach, walk and keep Bowles? Really?
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:02 pm
What’s the saying Todd Bowles always says?
NEXT MAN UP! I expect a better record and improvement from this season. If Bucs fail to be better, Todd has to be gone! So they are rolling the dice on Todd instead of rolling with Liam.
I think the Bucs made a huge mistake, but that’s my opinion.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:04 pm
damn, we really need to find a good OC now…
coach pulls dudes out his hat
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:04 pm
We bout down to Todd and Tom Moore now. Sheesh
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:04 pm
So if Johnson got $13m, it’s safe to assume Coen got $10m, at least. That’s actually way more than I thought he’d get – and at least double what the Bucs were offering, with more years. So min $50m vs the $15m the Bucs were offering.
Anyone mad at him taking that deal is just a flat out lunatic.
Also, what exactly would be the motivation of Coen to be sneaky and do all these crooked things behind people’s back? It literally doesn’t matter if he signed a deal with the Bucs or not, any offer to become HC means that deal is invalided.
People getting all worked up over this when they literally have no idea what happened, it’s just nonsense.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:06 pm
He has been like this his whole career, no one should be surprised. He has literally changed jobs every year. The Rams/Kentucky thing was a reason I didn’t fully like him here. He did help but he was going to leave the 1st chance he gets. He maybe a good play caller but you can’t lead and build a culture when always leaving places.

———–
Who is to say the reason that Coen wasn’t ‘available’ to Bowles or Licht today because it was the Glazers who were directly pitching him the Bucs HC job and they didn’t want it leaking. And who is to say Coen isn’t actually the good guy here, and didn’t want to stab Bowles in the back, and instead choose Jacksonville – but he can’t publicly say anything about it, and now is branded the bad guy in Tampa?
My storyline is just as credible as anything coming from the ex-St Pete Times fake news dope.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:10 pm
Coen likely feared his future with so many ready to move on from Bowels…
He knows with the Jags he has stability for a few years…
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:11 pm
Khan could very well have struck gold, and had to go for it. Shady optics or not, it’s a $9 million raise, so hard to fault Coen on that. But, as with Canales to Carolina, it’s more likely the next desperate big swing of a dysfunctional ownership. You might give a Sean Payton or a Harbaugh his choice of gm – but a one-year NFL play caller? This man must interview really, really well. It’s not “I hired Jeff Saturday” risky, but ithe organization is proven to be sub-optimal, so the odds favor the coach’s checkbook, but not an extended tenure. He’d have to be like Shula-esque.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:11 pm
@Davenport I couldn’t agree with you more. Bowles is not the future of this team

What a clown show.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:14 pm
Lots of coin but Judas got 30 pieces of silver as well anyhow, why didn’t Coen just be a man and tell the Bucs what his intentions were instead of hiding behind a sick child. Next man up.

He is getting a nice pay day but Mahomes conference. Lamar and Allen usually have their teams at the top.
Broncos look good.
Texans won’t have every wr go down.
Chargers get better
Bengals are going to find a way.
Jags are not a desirable place, they have young talent but London games every year. A qb that is ho hum about the game.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:15 pm
He’ll fail. A head coach needs integrity.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:18 pm
I have called for Todd’s job many a times while watching Bucs games. But… he has at this point a proven track record for picking OCs. I don’t trust him to use his time outs correctly but I absolutely believe he will be able to find another great coordinator. The Bucs OCs position should be THE premier option considering the last two guys both ended up HCs the next year. Gimme big b#lls douge Peterson or steicken and let baker rip off an MVP season. I believe in us.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:18 pm
What a f-ing scumbag. If he wanted to leave he should have been a man about it.
Seriously, with the talent we have, which OC is not going to bolt for a HC gig? The stupid promotion to HC loophole needs to be closed by the NFL. That means every team will be scared to hire a young coordinator, you’ll just have better luck hiring them as the HC? Idiotic.
Whoever the next OC is, I think we need to put in a clause in the contract that there will be hell to pay if they leave after 1 year. The Bucs are not NFL Europe for coaches! F@!#’s sake.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:18 pm
I’ll be more concerned if we lose Carberry to be honest.
Red may try to lure him to the White trash capitol of the south.

NFL is a small world. Not a good look Liam. Wish you and the Jags the worst.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:19 pm
We should make sure to promote all the better assistance that he brought here so that now he cannot sign them over to the Jaguars unless he promotes them even higher which he will not be able to do.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:19 pm
Joe in Michigan – I was joking, thus framing it like they left him, instead of getting promotions. Just trying to have some fun in a gloomy time, and nothing entertains me as much as jerking the chain of the Baker Boi(s).
But my heart isn’t in it tonight, so I release you.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:20 pm
@joe in Michigan Somewhere out there is an offensive coaching prospect who’s never called plays – just hoping and praying Baker’s general awfulness practically forces him to take a HC job!
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:21 pm
The spurned boyfriend lunatics in here, saying, “he was never any good,” and “we’re better off without him,” and “he can do so much better…”
Have some self respect people.
He got a better gig, something no one here would ever turn down. It’s just the way things went. Wish him the best, and move on.

Pedersen just got fired, he probably should go back to OC since he fumbled that Eagle job after a SB and the Jags one. Steichen is still employed and Indy hasn’t looked great under him.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:24 pm
Good riddance. Rather have someone with integrity leading the team. Maybe this is why McVay didn’t keep him around. Coen can pick one and suck it!
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:26 pm
Congrats Liam for being smart enough to get out. Glazers got played and it’s their own fault. seems Coen was tired of everyone giving Bowles credit for his success.

Guys, Coen did such an awesome job, another team wanted him to be their head coach.
It’s a promotion, the Bucs can’t stop that promotion.
Coen got at least $50m guaranteed, that’s why he took the job.
There’s nothing else to the story. No big overarching storyline, no love triangle, no backstabbing, no turn.
Here’s another thing… Draft Day … it was a movie, not a documentary, and it wasn’t based on a true story. It was just a movie… a moooo vv eee.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:33 pm
chucky for OC ???
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:33 pm
The pressure is going to be on Bowles big time. Essentially the Glazers chose to retain him and although they tried to keep Coen he walked to the tune of 10s of millions of dollars. Bowles looks like he is cleaning house on defense, now the same thing may happen on offense, depending on if Coens poaches the coaches he brought with him to Tampa, which he will likely do if he can promote them. Doubtful if Coen succeeds in London/Jacksonville but he is set for life coin-wise.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:34 pm
Everyone that is salty wanted him to get the HC job for us and not Bowles. Here’s to another year of mediocrity with Bowles here we come! Great day for us die hards that have to watch another end of the year barely making it just to lose. More sh*t is about to change…. Been saying this since Cousins lit us up the first time but nobody believed me
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:34 pm
… he can be your DC.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:35 pm
If this causes a ripple effect – key free agents signing with different teams. Could see a below .500 season and the inevitable firing of bowels.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:35 pm
If u want to blame someone the main culprit is the irresponsible media here in tampa and the schefter , rappaports of the world fighting for the 1st sound bite. None of us really knows what really happen behind the scenes. I would rather have had coen than bowles like most here. And part of the blame goes to the “made up litmus test that Bowles wins the division!! ” which I have found absurd! The bucs have barely won the division each year against teams with hurt players , new coaches , etc. Anyone who coached the bucs could and should have won the division the last 4 years, anyone! We played so many incompetent division rivals with backup qbs , injruries, and very poor coaching the last 4 years. A gift and very lucky for Bowles. Bowles is an above average coach at best and may be on his last leg. THe offense has some strong wills and i believe will be some 80% on auto pilot with a new coordinator. If it aint broke dont fix it. Next oc will tweak what is already successful.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:36 pm
WELL WELL WELL Roddy Munchkin A while back you boys stated that Baker was so bad that he would cost people their jobs.
You were kinda right. People did “change” their jobs but you were wrong about “why” they changed their jobs. They changed their job because Baker and the offense that he ran was so epic they got head coaching gigs. In one job, the rumor mill is saying he is making $13 million!!!
13 million!!!!! Is that you boys definition of losing your job?? Because you said BAKER or FAKER as you boys called him was SO BAD he would get people fired. Is this it?? Is this the result of Bakers talents??
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:36 pm
If the shoes were on the other foot and the Bucs snatched Coen from another team with exactly the same style and excuses the prize gave to the other team Bucs fans would have no problem with what Coen said to by time while the new team did the mandatory Rooney Rule pony show.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:36 pm
@rod munch There’s no doubt he would get (and deserved) his chance sooner or later. The optics aren’t the greatest – and we will obviously never know everything behind the curtain. What we can try to interpret is from a football industry standpoint, really. Is this the right way for a candidate with a very good (but short) track record to jump into the first HC job he’s offered?
Other than money, has that particular job proven good for any coach’s career? He’s an ex-Buc now, so already ancient history , no harm, no foul. Khan letting someone this green pick gm is a monumental risk – everyone on this here sight is dialed in enough to realize staying put a year or two is likely (of course not guaranteed) better career choice – hence fan anger
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:37 pm
Then again you may not.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:40 pm
Most likely Bowles is gone after next season. I don’t see him getting lucky 3 times in a row picking an OC. Back to the drawing board with a new offense and Bowles.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:40 pm
How could anybody he has to deal with trust him? He has no integrity. He did this to Kentucky when he left them to come to the Bucs. He was with them 1 year, then left for NFL-the Rams then back to Kentucky for 1 more year then left for the Bucs for one year and now he thinks he wants to be a head coach. This guy cannot stand putting down roots.Apparently he cannot be trusted, his word means nothing now. It might be ok to dump on a college team but to dump on the Buccaneers and the Glazer family and Jason Licht and Todd Bowles, well it just is wrong as these are good and very decent people. This is really unnecessarily messy.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:44 pm
Watch Daddy Sling – How did it work out for Leftwich not taking the Jags head coaching job when they offered it to him?
There are, for most people, once in a lifetime opportunity. Also, lets go low and say he got a 5yr/$10m a year deal, that’s $50m you’re turning down, guaranteed, to accept $15m guaranteed the Bucs offered.
Also, despite what people think, the Jags offense has a lot of talent and could easily, in a soft AFC South, turn things around very quickly.
If I’m 39-years old, given the chance to run an NFL franchise, and secure wealth for my lifetime and my kids lifetime, I’m taking that deal. If it doesn’t work out, well, he’ll still be in his early 40s, with tons of money, and can choose to work or not again.
I don’t know how anyone can be mad at that.
I’m happy for him, even though it sucks he’s leaving.
At the same time, the Bowles coaching tree grows, and every hot prospect in the NFL is going to be begging for that Bucs OC job, seeing it as the quickest way to get a HC job.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:45 pm
He’s gone – forget him – he’s, if these rumors/reports are true, a prick!
You don’t make the commitment until you’re ready to honor it. If you do it’s lack of integrity plain and simple…. and integrity is still a thing and still matters in spite of others claims otherwise.
He’s not a proven O.C. after one good season with a loaded offensive roster, much less a H.C. candidate.
Todd Bowles nutz know more about coaching than Liam does.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:47 pm
Curious what our next move will be. Who do we get? Are we going to lose all of our assistants? Might one of them want to step up as OC? Or do we go completely outside? Are our assistants still under contract?
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:47 pm
Anyone here, please step into Liam Coen’s leprechaun shoes (oddly enough Malcolm Glazer also looked a wee bit leprechaunish…but I digress)
$12 M 3 years as an OC
vs
$50 M 4 years as a HC
Have a bad to avg year as OC which might be due to injuries, bad calls and bad bounces and that type of opportunity may never come around for another 10 years
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:49 pm
Coen = Lying Disloyal Jackass
Nothing more to say…….
Coulda been straight up BUT HE WASN’T!!
I PRAY that the whole thing blows up on him. He deserves to go down in flames for this con-job….
And HELL YEAHHHH, I’ll take Bowles ANY DAY over Coen.
All comes down to “character”….
We’ll figure out our next OC. Got lots to choose from.
We got a ton of talent on offense.
The group knows what they’re good at now.
GREAT O-LINE, physical play, weapons all around, and Baker Mayfield (who I really wasn’t initially impressed with) is a damn BALLER….
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:49 pm
Some good advice for navigating the Joe Bucs Fan water, if you see comments from Davenport or Rod Munch, don’t waste your time. You’ll lose IQ points.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:49 pm
Please chase Chip Kelly for OC. Great OC with run first philosophy, just won the national championship and no one wants him as head coach.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:50 pm
New OC and other assistant coaches in 2025
Followed by a new HC and complete staff in 2026
That is what Jason let happen by keeping Bowels after this season. Yeah I know that the Glazers hire and fire HC but I also was not born yesterday.
So rather than promoting LC and having consistency going forward the franchise will be trying to make up and catch up.
The whole system is out of balance.
Baker only has 2 years on his contract and the team has to learn a new personality and play book.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:52 pm
Sounds just exactly like, the typical New Englander to me… Gave us the old “Irish Goodbye.”
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:52 pm

January 23rd, 2025 at 11:53 pm
Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out. There have been elite offenses in the league before you and there will be after you. You’re not special or worth the trouble. The pieces are still here. Sayonara.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:55 pm
@rod munch Every single point you made is correct and reasonable.
There is only one person on this earth who should have been counseling Coen to stay put, roll the dice on 2025 and line up for a better job – his agent.
You’re right that Jacksonville is not devoid of talent, and that pederson looks to have lost the locker room. They’re also in a weak division. I don’t see a Washington-type turnaround in one season, but it’s not impossible.
I just have no evidence that Tepper, Khan, irsay, haslam and Davis are anything other than career-killers, desperately churning. It’s a red flag, but the money’s good.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:55 pm
I was hoping and praying Liam would stick around, but truly can’t fault the guy for pursuing his dream, a great opportunity, and a butt load of money. Could he have handled it better? Sure. But it’s not like he’s ever been in this situation before… nor have any of the people cursing him. I give him the benefit of the doubt and wish him the best. Now I hope and pray we figure out a way to maintain offensive continuity with our next coordinator. Personally I think we will regret not firing Bowles to keep him, but I hope I’m wrong. GO BUCS
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:57 pm
“Instead of signing his new contract Thursday, He secretly met with Jaguars owner Shad Khan in Jacksonville instead – without telling the Bucs. Multiple members of the Bucs brass tried to reach Coen throughout the day on Thursday and he finally called head coach Todd Bowles back before 6:00 p.m. and said that he had been to the hospital with his sick child.
Coen briefly mentioned that he might be interested in meeting with the Jaguars during that call – yet he already met with Khan in Jacksonville.
The fact that Coen lied about his whereabouts and his renewed interest in the Jacksonville had many within the Bucs organization livid on Thursday evening. On Wednesday, Coen had told Bowles, the Glazers, general manager Jason Licht, quarterback Baker Mayfield and his staff of assistant coaches that he would stay in Tampa Bay and not go to Jacksonville.”
———————————————–
@Joes
Is this accurate based on what you guys know ? If so, I don’t see how anybody can defend him but some will try to or try to blame somebody else. Ok.
I was tired of watching him wipe his nose then wiping it on his clothes during press conferences anyway – LOL
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:57 pm
Don’t worry guys, we still have Todd Bowles as our head coach, the guy who wasn’t good enough for the Jets. 9-8, here we come.
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:58 pm
No one is mad at him for taking a job for that kind of money and years, it’s how he went about doing it. Disrespectful and just shady and snake like. He better succeed with jags cuz he probably burnt a lot of bridges
January 23rd, 2025 at 11:58 pm
Baker makes another OC rich. The Tampa OC job is desirable if your goal is to be a head coach soon. Here is a prediction. The Bucs will have a high powered offense in 2025 and Mayfield will surpass his 2024 stats.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:01 am
Wonder I if he get access to that brand new boat whenever he wants!? I definitely, would’ve demanded that perk 💯. Possibly already been on it… Prob where they conducted his interview!!!! The JAGS stepped-up. The BUCS didn’t. The were content with keeping a barely average ‘middle of the road’ 62-YEAR OLD (defensive-minded) HC with just one or two years left on his contract (at a very CHEAP price/buyout). In a NFC stocked FULL of young STUD (offensive-minded) HC’s littered throughout EVERY Division (including Jayden Daniels and Hurts in the East). They just got BURNT. It was just SUCH a ‘no-brainer’ move to make, too.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:09 am
This is why in today’s NFL you have to have your QB and Head Coach linked. The qb is the most important position in sports therefore your head coach has to be an offenive genius. Otherwise your qb will not have stability.
This sucks because the right move (firing bowles promoting COEN) is the wrong move(Firing a coach who has improved every year hes been in charge and has taken the team to 3 division titles in a row).
it will be interesting to see what this team does going forward.

Coen = Lying Disloyal Jackass
———
I’m not even giving you a hard time, but what exactly did he lie about, or be disloyal about?
By all credible reports, Coen wasn’t going to take the job in Jacksonville because he didn’t like the GM there. He was going to return to the Bucs because of that. But in response, the Jags fired their GM. The conditions, very unexpectedly, changed.
If Coen waited a few weeks to do this, and it meant the Bucs were screwed because everyone else has already been hired by other teams, then sure, that would be a screw job. But a few hours of uncertainty is not a screw job, and not disloyal.
Again, not bashing you here, but what am I missing? Why are people so emo over this?
January 24th, 2025 at 12:12 am
He used the Bucs for leverage he’s looking for himself simple
Going to that dumpster in Duval
No one is gonna work for him
He’ll last a year
January 24th, 2025 at 12:12 am
By tomorrow, Coen will have a story and timeline which will make him seem like he did everything above board and the Bucs will probably stick to their story that Coen ghosted them. He said, she said. Buc haters will troll Tampa, everyone else will congratulate Coen on making $50 million plus but will be wondering how dysfunctional Khan and his London Jaguars actually are……..
January 24th, 2025 at 12:22 am
What a scumbag, I knew it all along, grew tired of the Liam Coen lovefest amongst fans that went on all season when really it was the elite roster who made the players on offense
And now he will be cleaning out his office at 3 AM like a thief in the night.
Wait until he realizes that Mike Evans and Bucky Irving aren’t on the Jaguars.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:28 am
What a turn of events. Can’t stand the Jags taking our best coach. Huge huge loss for the Bucs. Karma will get someone…Go Bucs!
January 24th, 2025 at 12:32 am
Why on earth are you people so angry? Lol. It’s embarrassing. It’s a job. This is a career and he advanced in a career. Unbelievable. Anyway, better story angle would would be Baker is really starting to make a lot of people a lot money. The best candidates out there will kill for this job.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:33 am
I hope he epically fails like most Jville coaches. Scumbag move would of supported him if not for the shadyness. We better franchise tag Godwin so he isn’t gone too.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:34 am
It’s time to schedule an interview with Jake Peetz.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:34 am
Man, it would definitely be a big bag of mixed emotions to be a Jaguars fan right now knowing the details of this ordeal.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:36 am
This is the end, by the finish of next season we will be completely rebuilding. Remember my words
January 24th, 2025 at 12:38 am
He didn’t use the bucs as leverage. He saw that it would be an untenable situation for him in Jacksonville as it stood and told them. Tampa said if you stay we will give you more money, so he said that he was out.
Jacksonville then made the untenable situation much more tenable by firing ballke.
Situation changes means decision changes. I would bet the money didn’t change from first time to second time with the jags, thus he wasn’t using tampas 5 mil to leverage.
They wanted to get him so bad they fired their gm.
If we wanted him just as bad we would have had to fire bowles and offer him the HC position.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:42 am
It’s sad because this was the guy Bucs fan put all they faith into and look at his true colors smh
January 24th, 2025 at 12:44 am
Now who will be our head coach after we start 0-5 next year and the glazers realize we didn’t win the nfc south the falcons lost it.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:47 am
Godlovesbucs I think you’re kinda naiive here. You seem to think Coen was just reactive every step o the way and didn’t know baalke might be out. You think he didn’t know he might be fired yesterday and only found out on the news like the rest of us? He knew what he was doing. If there was a possibility be might take jags job he should not have committed here
January 24th, 2025 at 12:52 am
Maybe he’ll fall in their pool at their stadium there with no water in it & it’ll scramble some braincells back together again. Maybe he’ll realize what he did then.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:52 am
Yep you can never trust a ginger
January 24th, 2025 at 12:53 am
B we can be angry. We don’t care about the job aspect no crap it makes sense he took a better paying job. We are ticked with the fact we just lost our offensive coordinator who made our offense one of the best in franchise history. This move might cost us a Super Bowl we all saw within reach. That’s all we care about. Not feel good stories and participation trophies. Go Bucs!
January 24th, 2025 at 12:54 am
Hope he picks Mark Dominik as his GM, too!
January 24th, 2025 at 12:58 am
This whole thing is really not a big deal.
Cone was good because the players on offense were good. It’s a damn good roster.
So as long as the Bucs aren’t bringing in Marcus Arroyo to coach, the offense will be just fine.
January 24th, 2025 at 12:58 am
Uh Liam Coen wasn’t drafted by the Bucs and didn’t have to take less money from Licht to stay, don’t use the word disloyal for someone that’s been here a year and literally won you the division and saved you’re head coaches job. I guess when you become adults and have families you’ll understand wanting to better your loves with a promotion and he’s still in the sunshine state with decent offensive piecesIn a division that’s garbage just like ours
January 24th, 2025 at 1:04 am
Power it’s not that he took a promotion. Its the drama and circus he created. No one was mad at canales last year. The guy knew what he was doing and crated a scene. Imo it’s a big gamble since if he fails he also has really bad PR a s GMs/owners talk. If he succeeds fine.. but if not he screwed himself. Another year or good play calling may have been the better choice and have more opportunities next year
January 24th, 2025 at 1:04 am
If he was still mulling the job over just say so, don’t commit and let the media get a hold of it etc.

Can’t necessarily blame him, but damn, rat bast&$* sums it up pretty well.

When did he tell the media he accepted the job?
What if the Bucs leaked that he accepted the job before he actually agreed to do it? Why did the Bucs say anything when they didn’t even have a signed document? Also, even if they had a signed document, it means nothing since it’s a promotion and the Bucs can’t stop a promotion.
What if the bad guy is the media and they just took nuggets of information and put together a narrative that is incomplete and needlessly makes it look like a bunch of drama took place that never occured.
People getting all worked up over a few hours of uncertainty is peak retard, in my humble opinion.

I saw that – and in the comments I pointed out, right after news broke that the Jags fired their GM, that they’re almost certainly going to make another run at Coen.
Coen agreed to return to the Bucs because the Jags didn’t want to fire their GM, and thus he wasn’t going to take the job. Upon learning that, the Jags fired their GM, literally like an hour later.
So Coen is to give up at least $35-million, and a dream job to build a franchise, because he said an hour earlier he’d return and changed his mind after the conditions changed?
Man, stop being such a bunch of drama queens. There’s literally no one complaining about this that would not have done the exact same thing.
January 24th, 2025 at 1:55 am
So now Rod Munch you boys admit the fastest way to get a head coaching job is to get hired as the Bucs OC? Wow, what a switch, and so smooth, almost like you were the one that thought of that first. Lmao
You boys go from telling everybody for at least a year or two that Baker is an idiot bum middling choke artist quarterback who was so bad he would never win more than 6 games a year and was going to get people fired due to being so bad to being the quickest way to becoming a head coach. Do these coaches become head coaches due to the Bucs flag looking so cool? Or maybe the stadium is so cool they become HC? No wait, are you now saying it’s due to Baker? Nooo
January 24th, 2025 at 2:07 am
So Baker is a job maker now???
Is he still a faker?
Are we still idiots for thinking Baker is good no matter what you boys said about him??
Were you boys wr..wro…wron…wrong after all this time??Liam is getting paid $13 million supposedly. How is it he got that much??
January 24th, 2025 at 2:07 am
Any mature grown man would never say my child is in the hospital I can’t talk right now. That’s cowardice. Stand on it and take the job. January 24th, 2025 at 2:17 am
OR Buc – Fair enough, but I don’t think it’s a rat move at all. If he had waited like 2 or 3 weeks then did it, all the while teasing he’s a ‘Buc for life’ or something, then sure, he’d be a real piece of garbage. But he never said anything to the media, all we got was reports that he did this or did that, and the entire story was literally changing a few hours later, including the new contract he signed was never signed.
I have a strong feeling when the timeline of events is fully flushed out it’s really not going to be all that dramatic.
January 24th, 2025 at 2:32 am
That’s very impartial of you. I’m a lifelong Bucs fan who was overjoyed when he said he would stay, maintaining continuity and the prospect of an even brighter 2025 only to have it all yanked away 1 day later. Back to who knows wtf is gonna happen next year.
January 24th, 2025 at 2:37 am
The Jacksonville rat bast@#$%
January 24th, 2025 at 2:57 am
Classless move. You are either a man of your word or not, period. He knew the broad strokes of compensation for a HC and still played the Bucs. As much as I wanted him to stay for continuity purposes, good riddance.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:16 am
OR Buc – I agree on keeping Coen, I’d have fired Bowles in an instant to do so, but even that wouldn’t have been all that easy and would have been very risky since the Bucs couldn’t just give him the head coaching job because of all the nonsense Rooney Rule nonsense. But, yesterday when the news broke he was returning – and then immediately the news broke that the Jags fired their GM, I already was getting prepared for the idea he wasn’t coming back. All reporting said the GM was the roadblock for Ben Johnson and Coen from taking that job. I knew the Jags would take another run at him as the only other guy they had lined up was the awful coach who the Jets fired last year, and he’s as bottom rung of a candidate as there is.
But I hold nothing against Coen, he was awesome as an OC, and I really don’t think all the theaterics being reported are going to turn out to be true. We shall see.

No, that’s two OCs Baker made look so good that they were offered head coaching jobs.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:36 am
Happy for Coen…and I don’t think he did anyone dirty at all.
It could not have been an easy decision for him…otherwise the Jags would not have had to offer him so much money and so much power.
I think he had made up his mind to stay, but the Jags convinced him to talk to them one last time, then they pulled out all the stops.
We’ll be fine without him.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:38 am
Two OCs in a row got head coaching jobs…it won’t be hard to find someone wanting to earn such an opportunity.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:40 am
At least he didn’t go to a division rival.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:41 am
Liam snuck his way to Jacksonville AFTER verbally agreeing to the Bucs offer. The offer included a clause that the it would be rescinded if he went for a second Jags interview. So, what did he do? He surreptitiously went to take the Jags 2nd interview so he could presumably still have the Bucs OC job waiting for him if the Jags job wasn’t enticing or he ultimately didn’t get an offer.
That’s a snake.
January 24th, 2025 at 3:44 am
Liam Coen is lucky we don’t see him until 2027 unless we play them in the preseason. If we play them in the preseason, I know Bucs nation will show up and give him a befitting response.

I didn’t know what joebucsfan was 2 years ago. Now I wake up to pee at 2 in the morning and I have to read their latest story. And everyone’s take on that story. Jeez! I started following Tampa Bay when you signed Baker. My first memory of Tampa was them being a new franchise and drafting LeRoy Selmon. I remember the queer uniform colors and John McCay losing games at a historic clip. Fast forward to 2023. Baker takes over for Brady. Learning about the Glazers. Not bad ownership. Jason Licht and Todd Bowles. Good men. And the team. LaVonte, Mike, Chris, Tristan, Cade, Luke, Antoine, Kancey, McCollum, and a kicker! And we outplayed the 2022 team! Then 2024 and Barton and Bucky and Tykee and that rookie receiver with 8 TDs. Forget his name. Anyway McMillan? Whatever, a strong group with good leadership and young. Notice how Canales and Coen weren’t even mentioned in this group? Hey guys not very much has changed except we keep getting a little better each year. We don’t know what went down in Coen deal except for speculation. I like Liam and that kind of money would be impossible to turn down. He and his family are set for life. I have no interest in bashing his decision. I only hope if the jag off Jags are on our schedule one day that we will beat them in the most cruel and disgusting way possible. Otherwise we have a draft to get ready for and a few coaches to hire. Easy Peasy with the crew we’re working with!! Onto the Super Bowl or Super Bowls and the next chapter in an already Rich Bucs history!
January 24th, 2025 at 3:55 am
@Buccaneer Bonzai,
With what face would he have had the Bucs job after coming back from Duval? I don’t think Jason Licht didn’t put that clause for no 2nd interview if he didn’t mean it.
And all account say Liam briefly mentioned to Todd that he was looking at the Jags job again. He didn’t say, “Hey, I’m going to go for the 2nd interview.”

You have a girlfriend and you really enjoy her. She knows a guy at work and they’re just friends, but she kind of starts to like him and decides she wants to go out with him and she tells you goodbye. You’re shocked because you never saw it coming. Now you’re angry and disappointed. It hurts, a lot.
And just maybe, sometimes, you were the one who did the dumping. And it was her who felt the loss. But in the end you did what was best for yourself.
Regardless, time does tend to heal all wounds and you eventually get over her. You actually meet someone else and something you never expected to happen happens. It turns out your new girlfriend is even better than the last one who dumped you and you can’t believe you’re good fortune.
In my younger years, I was an executive recruiter. In the business world offers and counter offers and counters to the counter offers happen. it’s not that uncommon. It’s disappointing for the loser and it’s common there are hurt feelings. But when it comes right down to it people are gonna do what’s best for them. Sometimes it turns into a muddy situation. Sometimes you win sometimes you lose, thats life.
January 24th, 2025 at 4:12 am
Why is anyone surprised? This dude is notorious for this type of stuff. Plus he said he always wanted to be a head coach. Bad for the Bucs because we lose Coen and keep Bowles, probably the opposite of what should’ve happened. Oh well, it’s a Bucs life is full steam ahead
January 24th, 2025 at 4:51 am
Optics seem that Coen played dirty in the end, but it seems as though he has done the lemon dance a lot in his coaching years. He got one interview for HC while many others are getting a few or more interviews. That says a lot too. The Jags are the only ones that wanted him. Good luck with that.
January 24th, 2025 at 6:11 am

It’s like you’ve regained your senses! I think many here hoped Trask was the next great thing and that influenced their posting. Since you’ve given up on that idea your posts have returned to their former high level.
I give you the win of all the posts today although GodlovesBucs put in a strong effort for sure.
But for me anyway you nailed it. This sentence says it all…”We’ll be fine without him.”
After the last election I do not see how any of us can talk about “character” ever again. We’ve all shown how important “character” is in America. So I also agree with Rod Coen did the rational thing. I’m happy for him and his family.
Let me steal from Jim Mora’s famous rant and paraphrase a bit…
Don’t talk about—character! You kidding me? Character! I just hope we can win a game! Another game!”
January 24th, 2025 at 7:06 am
Happy for Coen. He gets a 5 year deal with guaranteed money no matter what happens. His dream job, gets to pick is own GM, Obviously has the confidence of the owner, has a number one pick QB who he gets to try and bring back to life. If Lawrence craps the bed he can move on after 2 years. It couldn’t be set up any better for anyone to be a first time head coach

I understand why Coen left the Bucs to ensure his families well being for the rest of his life and so would you if you are honest with yourself. I’m not mad at him, I’m mad at the Glazers! They had a chance to become an offensive power in the NFL for the next 4 to 6 years and be able to focus on dedicating defensive players for the next 2 or 3 years and win a Super Bowl. Maybe they will still be able to a accomplish that goal, but time will tell.
