NFL Writers Acknowledge Bucky Irving

January 22nd, 2025

Big rookie year rewarded.

Anyone who watched more than one Bucs game this past season knows this was a no-brainer.

And the men who get paid the big bucks (like the Sage of Tampa Bay sports Ira Kaufman) have now documented that Bucs running back Bucky Irving was one of the best running backs in the game.

Yesterday it was learned that Bucky was named by the Pro Football Writers of America (PFWA) to the NFL’s All-Rookie team for 2024.

Bucky, who was grabbed by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht in the fourth-round (125th overall) out of Oregon, led all rookies in rushing yards (1,122) and rushing touchdowns (8). He averaged a crazy 5.4 yards per attempt.

Bucky’s 5.4 yards per carry was the third-highest total in the in the 125-year history of the NFL among rookies with 200 or more carries in a season. Only Adrian Peterson (5.6 in 2007) and Clinton Portis (5.5 in 2002) had higher rookie averages.

Bucky’s 5.4 yards a carry was also a Bucs franchise record.

The only running backs who had at least 100 carries this season with a higher rushing average were all in games last weekend: Derrick Henry, Saquon Barkley and Jahmyr Gibbs.

Joe is going to puke if Liam Coen takes the Jags job. You think this Bucs offense was good in 2024? Imagine how much better it would be in Coen’s second year.

We may never find out.

    Congrats Bucky!

Hard to see a scenario where we get a better offensive coordinator for a 3rd year in a row.

    Sucks

  2. Aqualung Says:

Here’s hoping the Glazers would puke if Liam were to leave, too, and take the action necessary for him to stay. Losing Liam now would be like losing Monte Kiffen after the 1997 season. Fill the bag, make him the offer to be head coach in waiting.

    Lets go.

Or the league has a season and a playoff game of tape on Cohens offense and we stink. I highly highly doubt we stink but how can we know. Im a optimist and believe another year of Liam and we soar yet the Buc in me always worries and braces for a letdown.
