NFL Network Insider Floats Chucky’s Name To Bucs “If They Were To Make A Change”

January 3rd, 2025

Future transition with Bucs?

Look, let’s get a couple of things straight here before Joe continues with this namedrop by a respectable NFL reporter working for the league’s house organ.

Last month after former NFL general manager Michael Lombardi claimed on his former podcast, “GM Shuffle,” that he heard through NFL circles that Bucs coach Todd Bowles was going to retire, Bowles on the record told both Joe and Ira Kaufman, separately, that he had zero plans on retiring this winter.

And, since the Bucs are on the cusp of 10 wins, which would give the Bowles his third straight NFC South division title in as many seasons, Joe could not imagine Team Glazer moving on from Bowles.

But if Team Glazer were moved to make a switch, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network told Rich Eisen today, that one replacement name to keep in mind has a significant history with the Bucs. Hell, the guy got the Bucs and Team Glazer their first Super Bowl ring.

That would be Chucky.

Pelissero was discussing who the Jets may eye to hire and he noted that the Jets could be looking for an offensive coach “with pelts on the wall.”

He threw Chucky’s name out, which began a brief breakdown of Chucky being a popular candidate with several NFL teams.

And maybe the Bucs.

“Offensive coaches who have had success as head coaches,” Pelissero speculated what the Jets are looking for. “Jon Gruden is on that list. That is a name I fully anticipate you are going to hear. I believe there will be interest in Jon Gruden this time around.”

Pelissero rattled off a few teams that would be interested in Chucky. including the slimy Saints. Pelissero added Chucky could have been the slimy Saints offensive coordinator this season if he wanted the job. And then Pelissero dropped this in almost as a throwaway line about a team interested in hiring Chucky.

” … the Buccaneers, if they were to make a change.”

When Pelissero said this, very audibly you could hear Eisen hum in surprise.

Again, Bowles has stated emphatically he’s not retiring. Of course, this was before his son, linebacker Troy Bowles, decided to transfer from Georgia to Michigan.

SEC football stadiums are much easier to travel to from Tampa than B1G football stadiums. Seattle, Los Angeles, Eugene and State College are a bit trickier to reach than Atlanta, Austin or Jacksonville.

Besides, Team Glazer currently has one of the brightest offensive minds in the game already in the building should Bowles leave (voluntarily or involuntarily). For Joe, if Bowles for whatever reason walks out of One Buc Palace, it would be Liam Coen who should be the no-brainer hire, not Chucky.

  1. Leopold Stotch Says:

    No. Coen.

  2. bucsfan951 Says:

No thanks at all. That is a hard pass.

  3. A Bucs Fan Says:

Love Chucky’s passion for the game! Great teacher but the game has passed him by.

  4. adam from ny Says:

    return of the chuckaneer ???

    whaow !

  5. Dewey Selmon Says:

we almost paid him 100 million for 10 years. I think he is overrated as an offensive genius.

  6. ModHairKen Says:

Bring back Gruden. Put him with Mayfield and watch this team rise to the top.

But seriously. Thereā€™s just no way this happens. I mean, they took his name of the ROH. Theyā€™d have to undo that.

Then again, I never thought Brady would come here.

  7. Hunter Says:

That’s entirely…dumb. There is absolutely no way no how.

  8. Bojim Says:

    Nooooo!!!

  9. UKBuccaneer Says:

    .500 coach. No thanks.

  10. Curse of Gruden Says:

Could the Bucs be considering Gruden for OC if Coen leaves?
That doesnā€™t seem as far fetched as him returning as HC, but both scenarios seem highly unlikely.

  11. SB~LV Says:

    Bwahahahahaa

  12. unbelievable Says:

For Joe, if Bowles for whatever reason walks out of One Buc Palace, it would be Liam Coen who should the no-brainer hire, not necessarily Chucky.

    1000%.

Also- I love Chucky, but the game has passed him by IMO. Spider-2 Y-banana ain’t fooling anyone these days.

  13. DBS Says:

It would be so Bucs like. Fire a Head Coach say we made a mistake and rehired him. How many NFL teams have done that? Not going to happen.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

    NFL network LOL

  15. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Bowles is going nowhere. He’s got it made in Tampa, much better than his first time out as an NFL HC.

  16. ghost Says:

“Bowles is going nowhere. Heā€™s got it made in Tampa, much better than his first time out as an NFL HC.”

    Not really

Bowles as Jets HC – .432 win %

    Bucs HC – .442

wouldnt exactly call a .010 with both losing records “much better”

  17. Matt_PcAfee Says:

    I love Coach but nooo.

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Chucky has forgotten more than Coen knows. But Chucky is over the top crazy. He burns his players out, is not good with communicating with the players, and doesnā€™t develop young players. He has a knack for pissing everyone off. I donā€™t see the Glazers rehiring him. If they did, they would have to put his name back on the ring of honor. lol. Coen is the answer.

  19. Ds Says:

    Sorry But no gru

  20. FlumundaCheese Says:

No, thanks. Coen is the correct answer.

  21. gotbbucs Says:

Not a snow balls chance in hell.

  22. DungyDance Says:

No thanks, overrated. Even if both Bowles and Coen are somehow gone, still, no thanks.

That being said, I wouldn’t mind listening to him call games again. He had a Yogi Berra moment once, on a ad teaser for the upcoming game, he said, “Anything can happen on any given Sunday. Especially on Monday night.” Ha.

  23. Chris K Says:

    @ghost. Your calculator is broke.

  24. GoneGator Says:

    Todd as TB coach

    year 1 .471
    year 2 .529
    year 3 .563

Gruden was a .509 coach for the Bucs.

  25. Kenton Smith Says:

Wonā€™t be long before Todd Bowles, who has a ring as a player and a defensive coordinator, has one or more rings as a head coach. Thereā€™s plenty of room for differences of opinion on this sight. So strictly my opinion is heā€™s as good a head coach as we could have. If he puts together another 2 or 3 years here heā€™ll easily be known as the best head coach in TB history. Hope Coen waits for that to happen and I think he will. Licht, Bowles, Coen, and Mayfield are truly amazing. All 4 were great football players, theyā€™ve all got great leadership qualities, and they are all on board for this team. This team has a chance to be super good in the next few years. Only way to screw it up would be replacing any of these 4 guys.

  26. Joe in Michigan Says:

Kenton Smith: Iā€™m of the opinion that Coen will be an NFL Head Coach in 2025. My hope is that itā€™s with Tampa Bay. Reasons I donā€™t want Bowles to be the HC anymore:

    1) Pass defense has been bad for most of the year
    2) Tackling has been a problem
    3) Clock management has been a problem throughout his tenure
    4) Coaches scared at times
    5) The big uglies in coverage has gotten old
    6) It seemed like Kirk Cousins knew the defense better than his own guys
    7) Trotting JTS out as a starter for so many games

  27. Irishmist Says:

The Glaziers took him off the Ring of Honor, then hire him back as a coach? (IN Chucky Voice): ARE YOU OUT OF YOUR MIND!

  28. Bucben1961 Says:

“And, since the Bucs are on the cusp of 10 wins which would give the Bowles his third straight NFC South division title in as many seasons as Bucs coach, Joe could not imagine Team Glazer moving on from him.”

I love how you count these games before they are played…you would think you would have learned your lesson after the Dallas game. Nope

  29. Conte Piscatelli Says:

The glazers took his name off the stadium because of the things he said about them. You really think they would hire him again?? I donā€™t think Gruden would take a job from the glazers at this point either

  30. Saskbucs Says:

Thanks for addressing Kenton, Joe in Michigan. I would like to add that Bowles has had to meet the lowest bar for his HC success here and is just above .500, consider the followingā€¦

    – handed a SB winning roster
    – handed a franchise QB in Baker right after Tom
    – Bucs have been in the weakest division in the NFL (AFC South maybe)
    – Has he beaten a contending team?
    – Lions this year likely win if Campbell doesnā€™t pull a Bowles before half and takes 3 pts.
    – Commander 1st game for rookie QB
    – Eagles twice- playoffs they were walking dead – this year no top 2 WR
We can dispute this all day but I think the record is damning.
    – possibly cost us back to back SB wins by zero blitzing a top blitz QB in the league at the time.
    – lucked into a home game vs a dead Eagles squad (we possibly lose to Carolina last season to miss the playoffs if Winfield doesnā€™t pull of another goal line strip.
    – gonna luck into a matchup vs the weakest team in the field (Commanders) or a terrific team who just had their hearts ripped out in a slugfest for 1st.

He is barely above .500. He has cost us games based on the factors Joe in Michigan laid out with poor clock/game management, conservative play calling vs contending teams and an inability to adapt his defensive scheme to cover warts or the other teams best player (unless said player is an RB) Ceedee Lamb via Rush.. Adam Thielen via Youngā€¦

I want to be excited about a SB run this year, for sure next year cause I know Licht will fill the proper holes again but I do not trust this man to get to the top of the mountain.

    No Chucky, keep Coen!

  31. Mac Says:

I think Gruden is as over rated as an offensive genius as Bowles is a defensive guru. Gruden is a vastly over rated head coach. Don’t even think he would be a good coordinator. Every team he has taken over has gotten progressively worse season after season and God older and older cause he doesn’t like young unproven players. I would take Bowles over Gruden every day of the week and that is saying something with how much I dislike Bowles as a head coach! If Bowles retires they have to go with Coen!

  32. Mac Says:

Also we already get shafted by the NFL what do you think theyvwill do if we hire a guy who has been banished and in a current lawsuit with them. Absolutely the dumbest thing they could possibly ever do!!!!

  33. Saskbucs Says:

I will be cheering for the Bucs to win every game. If they win 2 playoff games this season Todd is safe and I wonā€™t be able to argue with those results, will just pray the D stays healthier next season and some impact pieces are added in the offseason.

I will also be laying heavy dough on the WR1 that comes to town in the wild card if we beat the Saints. McLaurin, Jefferson or St.Brown are guaranteed to get theirs vs Bowles D.

  34. Hail2dabucs Says:

    What a minute Joe
Am I wrong to think our owners pulled his name from the ring of honor at RJS ?
there is no way he gets a job with us coaching again

  35. Mac Says:

Saskbucs I will be doing the same. If it’s Jefferson I thinks he eclipses 150+ yards easily against Bowles Charmin soft defense. I don’t see us beating any of the teams in the playoffs truly unless somehow it’s GB mainly bc they are more run oriented. Daniel’s will run all over us and either Lions or Minny will throw all over us. I Hage being so negative as I’ve been this year but when you see it over and over all season little reason to believe anything else will happen!

  36. Peter Says:

Reporting this the NFL should be embarrassed
Bowles not going anywhere with 10 wins

  37. Hammerhead Says:

Gruden would run Bucky into the ground as did Caddilac.

  38. Jmarkbuc Says:

    This ainā€™t no retirement home..

  39. GoneGator Says:

    @Kenton Smith
    Thanks again for trying šŸ‘šŸ¼

It’s beyond obvious at this point some people have a problem with Todd that has nothing to do with football or are living in some kind of la la land where coaches are regularly crushing w/l % or have magic wands to overcome obstacles or make players better.

The players all have his back, the other coaches have his back. He was given a team in serious decline, picked Baker off the trash heap and helped ressurect a team expected to go into full rebuild. We’re talking about playoffs here today and not cursing a 4-12 record like we could easily be. If he gets blamed for every single thing that isn’t good (or perfect) then how come he doesn’t get credit for all things (or anything) good?

The idea that a football team is exceeding expectations in spite of their head coach is a ridiculous idea.

  40. alba Says:

Racist words from gruden about a black man said Smith had [Joe trusts what you say — but no need to start a flamewar. — Joe]

  41. alba Says:

You know what gruden says is bad when the moderator won’t even let me post the words here. Shame on the joe-joes

  42. alba Says:

In the emails, Gruden called the leagueā€™s commissioner, Roger Goodell, a ā€œf__tā€ and a ā€œclueless anti football p____yā€ and said that Goodell should not have pressured Jeff Fisher, then the coach of the Rams, to draft ā€œq____s,ā€ a reference to Michael Sam, a g____y player chosen by the team in 2014.

  43. alba Says:

Gruden said said Smith had “lips the size of miche___llin tir–_es,

  44. Ateonetree Says:

Cohen and get him a top notch DC like Robert saleh

  45. Gipper Says:

    Kenton Smith
    GoneGator,

You guys are able to rise above the mob mentality that afflicts the typical fan. Todd Bowles clearly has the players behind him. They value his steadiness and leadership. Kipling said:

“If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs and blaming it on you. If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you, and make allowances for their doubting too.”

Bowles is going to lead the team to a 3rd straight division title Sunday. He is doing it with a substandard defense. A lot of changes coming next year to the defense. Pretty sure Bowles will be back and Glazers’ will find a way to create a succession plan for Coen.

  46. New Baby MoJo Says:

No one that remembers the end wants Gruden back

  47. Alstott up the gut Says:

Bucs do not win their first Superbowl without Jon Gruden. Plain and simple. While I donā€™t think a sequel is the right move, I actually wish his name would be placed back in the ROH.

  48. Brian Dorry Says:

Congrats Tom Pelisseroā€¦dumbest thing I heard all week.

  49. Lefty Says:

Todd Bowles canā€t be fired after a potential 10 win season? Pffft.
Dungy was let go with a much more productive tenure in Tampa.

What successes can Bowles be given credit for as HC here? If the Bucs end up moving on from him, how many teams would be lined up to bring him onboard? My guess is Zeeee-RO.

  50. Ben the GA Buc Says:

    @ghost

It’s about more than wins and losses. Bucs are a far superior organization than the Jets.

  51. GoneGator Says:

Dungy in TB = .563 FYI

  52. Beeej Says:

    ONE good season

  53. Buddha Says:

I honestly cannot look at this defensive personnel and say the defense has under performed. Our best cornerback has missed 7 games. Our Pro Bowl safety has missed half of the season has not been 100 per cent in most other games. Kancey missed 4 games. We have only one linebacker. Only three defensive players has started all 16 games. Currently, we start two free agents. If anything, this defense is overperforming.

  54. Pewter Power Says:

After the backhanded joke he made about being hired by the Bucs are landing the Raiders job this take is a joke. He did a horrible job with the raiders and he still sucks at personnel decisions so who wants to go back to that

  55. BucsFan81 Says:

Most people donā€™t like Gruden. Bucs owners would never hire him back. However he is still a better coach than Bowles as long as he canā€™t make any GM or personnel decisions.

  56. Kenton Smith Says:

We are 5th in the league in rushing defense. Very important stat for the postseason. We are 7th in the league in sacks. Very interesting. Our scoring defense is down to just under 23 points per game. 17th in the league. We played a division champion schedule this year. Injuries on the defensive side were tough but weā€™re alive to fight another day. There are some key pieces to this organization that still believe we can win the Super Bowl this year. Those pieces would be all of our players and all of our coaches. And those pieces wonā€™t be satisfied playing in the NFC Championship. I donā€™t know much but I do know Todd Bowles gets credit for that. Because none of these guys are talking about next year. Why not this year?

  57. TheBigSombreo Says:

Gruden is too toxic for the Bucs… especially after they won a super bowl and many divisions post the Gruden era.

I doubt Gruden will ever coach in the NFL again… too bad, but the email leaks did him in. His true character showed and there is no way players would respect him.

  58. ModHairKen Says:

alba, so what? Itā€™s two dudes trying to be funny. Wasnā€™t meant to be read in public.

You think youā€™re better than him?

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Assuming we win this weekend, Todd Bowles is going nowhere.

I mean, it is possible that if we somehow manage to win the Superbowl this year, he might retire on a high note, and pass the torch to Coen, but that’s very unlikely.

Regardless, Jon Gruden will NEVER work for the Bucs again. In his eyes they betrayed him when they removed him from the ring of honor.

  60. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Maybe someone will make him an OC somewhere.

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I will say this: Bowles needs to challenge the defense to score ten TDs like Gruden did.

  62. Buc It Says:

Bowles was a good coordinator. I like him on a human level. He’s just a good man. But he doesn’t know how to manage the end of the game with his time outs. That alone pisses me off so much. He has cost us football games on his game management. Coen will be gone next year if Bowles returns. Coen seems like a special mind considering what he’s doing. I would really like Bowles to retire/fired and hire Coen. But I would also take chuck over him simply because I just think Bowles isn’t a good head coach.

  63. Pewter Power Says:

    Kenton Smith
We are 5th in the league in rushing defense.

Stop fooling yourself the scheme is horrible unless you have glaucoma I could understand. Bowles is always at the top of the league in rush defense because he stacks the box or has 5 man fronts. He emphasizes stopping the run and they execute it. imagine that he can ask his team to execute stopping the run and accomplish it so why is his secondary so clueless to his gameplan. If Bowles remains status quo gotta go, heā€™s gotta get rid of those old decrepit defensive coaches that are happy Shaw is back to do their job but then again if it comes down to Coen or Bowles

  64. Joe Says:

Am I wrong to think our owners pulled his name from the ring of honor at RJS ?

Am told that mistake may be rectified.

  65. kaimaru Says:

    @ghost

Bowles as Jets HC ā€“ .375 win %

    Bucs HC ā€“ .520

    MIA HC – .667

    FTFY

  66. Permanently Moderated Says:

I laugh at a .563 winning percentage being held up as an acceptable record. Mediocre. You Todd Bowles love children are pathetic.

  67. Lightningvinny Says:

Name Coen assistant head coach who takes over the 2026 season ,, Bowles gets his sunset tour as HC and bows out gracefully to the front office ,,, Him and BA can drink whiskey and tell lies (itā€™s a saying ) and in 2026 Coen takes over with a third year in the offense coming up and a new DC

  68. adam from ny Says:

bowles is not bad at all…

it’s a slow steady climb with him…maybe next year we go 11-6…improving about a game a year…he doesn’t knock anyone’s socks off like a mcvey, but he’s definitely decent and we slowly keep getting a little better…

and more importantly, it’s happening in the small window just past the brady era – where we were supposed to nose dive and pay the price cap wise for those great years…

granted licht and the staffers have been exceptional of late at drafting pieces…so heavy credit is due there as well…

but bowles is definitely part of these good years and should be recognized for it too…

can we be great with bowles…?…that’s to be determined, because i haven’t seen it yet…but we are a damn good football team rn, who on any given sunday can hang with the best of ’em

  69. Colonel Angus Says:

    Hell no

  70. adam from ny Says:

the real issue with bowles and coen is:

there seems to be too much potential overlap…

like a 2-3 year overlap where bowles is still here, but coen should be moved into the HC spot…

    more like say a 2 season overlap…

now the glazers, as well as many owners, have paid many many coaches mad loot to sit at home for years and collect paychecks after things didn’t work out with a said team…it happens all the time…

there’s gotta be a way to keep both guys…and transition bowles out into retirement smoothly in a year or so, while moving coen into the HC position…

so you pay a little bit too much for both men on the front end, instead of paying a whole lot on the back end – like to coaches who fail to live up to team expectations…

pay now…keep your guys…or pay later while dudes sit at home with their feet up sipping ice tea…

and keep the culture and continuity on point…and steadily climbing, as it should – since the brady era

  71. adam from ny Says:

    ^^^^^

this is actually good for the glazers…and good for the fanbase…and good for the team

  72. Xristos Says:

Coach Bowles has been in the Bucs for 6 years now, his 3rd as HC.
What i see is that the Defense has been getting worse every year since he took over as HC. He is a defensive coach so that can not happen.
!st season with a bad offense 8-9
    2nd season with a mediocre offense 9-8
    3rd season with a top5 offense 10-7 (hopefully)
There is no progress in the team. We see the same mistakes over and over again.
We see that after a couple of good games when the hype goes up the team goes out and show up.
We see that Coach Bowles does not learn, he continues to make big mistakes in clock management and situational football.
I m not saying that he is a bad coach but i dont see him as a great coach that improves his team. This season we are having the exact same as the last one. Start good then we lose games we could have won for a month and then finish better. Its the same.
You cant be a defensive HC have a top5 offense and not be better than 10-7.
I dont see a significant improvement, any progression as a team. And that is evident when you look at his clock/management decision making. He has made bad decisions in so many games but when something like that happens again in a game he shows that he has not learn from his mistakes. He makes the same mistakes again. That is my opinion.
With that said i prefer him to Gruden without a question lol
    Go Bucs

  73. August 1976 Buc Says:

NO WAY NO WAY NO WAY…….

GRUDEN HAD HIS TIME HERE, THX JOHN FOR THE SB XXXVII WIN

BUT IN NO WAY DO I WANT TO SEE GRUDEN AS THE HEAD COACH IN TAMPA

JOHN WORE OUT HIS WELCOME LONG BEFORE HE WAS SENT TO THE FIRED FOOTBALL COACHES ORG THAT HE TALKS ABOUT.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!!!

  74. DungyDance Says:

“Am told that mistake may be rectified.”

Agree that the decision to remove his name was a mistake (overreacting to appease cancel culture). But disagree that he should ever have gone up there in the first place. Ring of honor is for players or coaches who become legends through lifetime accomplishments with us. Selmon. Brooks. Sapp. Barber. Those guys. Not one-off great accomplishments. Sorry. And this means Brady doesn’t go there either. He was clearly a legend (heck, the GOAT), but that was in New England. Here, yes he did great things for us. But only in 1 or 2 years. Again, sorry, not good enough.

  75. Bucsfan Says:

There is obviously plenty of racial animus working against Todd among the fanbase, just as their is in society as a whole. Is Todd a great coach ?-no , but should he win another division title this Sunday , his job will be safe for another year. Should Bucs fail to win Sunday-not so much then.

  76. stpetebucsfan Says:

Wow I’m finally reading some rational posts about Todd Bowles.

Do records and results mean nothing. Do the people on the field when you achieved the result mean anything. IE Was Bowles a great DC when he had Suh(the most underrated Buc ever aside from LVD) Devin White before he lost his mind, JPP, the lists on the SB defense is long. Now compare that list to the long list of guys Todd shuffled onto the field this past season. Even the good guys were hampered by injuries.

Again you can’t make chicken salad out of chicken spit.

Belichik’s record without Brady is WORSE than Bowles. In fact in five freaking years Belichik managed one winning season at Cleveland. How many did he have after Brady left in NE? But still people got excited.

Gruden? As someone pointed out look at his Bucs record AFTER the SB and some of his decisions. Would Todd Lycht want to deal with an egomaniac who would be on the final leg of his career and pretty full of himself?

NOW here is a genuine question. There are TWO OC’s who are super hot HC candidates who coach in Divisions where one of their rivals has a HC opening.

So The Bucs have to sweat not only Coen’s departure, which IMHO may not really wreck the ship at all, but watch him turn New Orleans into a stout competitor which very well could happen.

Same in Detroit where OC Ben Johnson has been a hot HC candidate for a couple of years now and there’s the obvious opening in Chicago for an HC.

Aside from the specifics I”m not really cool with OC’s leaving their teams and going immediately to a rival in their Division.

  77. Joe D. Says:

Eff no, the offensive guru who couldn’t figure out how to get Joey Galloway and Antonio Bryant on the field at the same time because “They both play the X WR position”šŸ˜†

“The lost Decade” as Joe calls it, started when Chucky ran off Rich McKay for Bruce ‘all mighty’ Allen. Thanks for bringing us a SB win and doing enough to get the offense over the hump, but good riddance.

  78. ChrisBuc2327 Says:

Nahhh leave chucky in the past we need Liam Cohen as HC šŸ’Æ

  79. Permanently Moderated Says:

Bucsfan, stop with the racial nonsense. Itā€™s a tired, dumb argument. Apparently, you view everything from a racial perspective or your wouldnā€™t have brought it up.

  80. Joe in Michigan Says:

To the Todd Bowles loyalists: I canā€™t say for certainty that the Bucs will beat the Saints on Sunday. Remember when the Bucs lost to the Saints late last year? Remember all of the games that a Todd Bowles led defense got shredded by a backup QB? The way the Bucs D has looked at times this year, they can lose to anybody on a given day.

  81. unbelievable Says:

Iā€™m not a Bowles defender by any means, but some of these takes are just completely clueless.

  82. stpetebucsfan Says:

This is what Bowles is up against on this board.

“!st season with a bad offense 8-9
    2nd season with a mediocre offense 9-8
    3rd season with a top5 offense 10-7”

Those stats represent a 20% IMPROVEMENT in two years. I’m not saying that’s terrific but given the challenges left from the horrid departure of the GOAT/SB salary cap hell and the mess Bowles and Licht were left to clean up that 20% improvement is actually quite good.

If Bowles could just maintain that “disastrous” rate of improvement we should all be so lucky. 11 wins next year 12 the year after.

  83. Mike Johnson Says:

Hellava Pic here Joe with Chucky and Bowles. If Todd ain’t hatin? then neither am I. Chucky got a raw deal and everybody from Cape Kennedy to Canada know its.

  84. C2asante Says:

For all the ā€œTodd Bowles is a bad coachā€ crowd, how many games have you ever coached and won at any level. It amazes me how people who have never done it somehow think they have credibility to critique those doing at the highest level. On Todd Bowles worst day, he knows football coaching better than any of his critics here. You people never cease to amaze and amuse me with your arrogance and ignorance.

Tony Dungy is responsible for a monumental turnaround of the losingest franchise in the history of professional sports. That being said, the Glazers (rightfully so) showed him the door following seasons of 11-5, 10-6 and 9-7 due to the teamā€™s inability to ā€˜take the next stepā€™ in the postseason. I think that itā€™s fair to use the same approach with Todd Bowles.

  87. Tye Says:

Bowels defense IS NOT the reason for the Bucs multiple NFCS crowns, playoff appearances or win records….
The biggest reason for the Bucs success over the past few years is the weak division…. Let 1 or 2 of the other teams get better coaching and the Bucs will not be in the discussion for division leader…
The other reason for the Bucs success goes to the OCs…
They deserve to be HC and Bowels doesn’t!

  88. Tye Says:

IF not Liam, Todd Monken would be amazing or Pete Carroll for HC!

So using this logic leftwich should have been made OC? Or Canales? Now Coen ?

The Panthers will be better next year. Now that Atlanta has switched to Penix they will be much more dangerous. Who knows about the saints.

We have a dangerous team…. NOW
It will be better next year with another solid draft, focused mainly on defensive needs and another year with Coen and Baker being potentially even better.

And Pete Carroll? Todd Monken? Seriously? Pete’s about 80 and Monken would want to change the offense when we all agree that Liam’s offensive philosophy and strategies are working pretty friggin well right now.

    Geez

For all the ā€œTodd Bowles is a bad coachā€ crowd, how many games have you ever coached and won at any level. It amazes me how people who have never done it somehow think they have credibility to critique those doing at the highest level. On Todd Bowles worst day, he knows football coaching better than any of his critics here. You people never cease to amaze and amuse me with your arrogance and ignorance.
    ^^^^^^^^
You gotta be an NFL Head Coach to comment on here? Are you Lovie Smith or something? šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

  91. Scotty Mack Says:

Agreed. Coen is the clear and obvious choice, not Chucky.

Gruden’s name is re-surfacing because the latest presidential election seems to indicate that America is tired of this woke bullsh$#@. Other than a few emails that some have warped into being racist, his resume is as good as any. That and a few things that the woke crowed has labeled “anti-gay” [I cannot imagine a single coach (or even player) has not said similar things at some point int heir lives.

Really, I wish Gruden was back on MNF. He was the best there has ever been, including Madden, as a color commentator in my opinion. No way ultra-woke Disney will ever permit that again, though.

  92. Joe Says:

Could the Bucs be considering Gruden for OC if Coen leaves?

    Interesting.

  93. admin Says:

Chucky has forgotten more than Coen knows. But Chucky is over the top crazy.

Perhaps, but Coen is cutting-edge modern. Chucky hates new-fangled offenses (he often whines about RPOs, etc.) which is partly why his offenses were just meh in Las Vegas.

Even when Joe Gibbs returned to coaching he struggled with how football had evolved.

  94. Joe Says:

Am I wrong to think our owners pulled his name from the ring of honor at RJS ?

Those same owners hosted Chucky as a guest in their private suite at a home game earlier this year. Broke bread with him and likely shared cocktails/adult beverages.

  95. admin Says:

Gruden would run Bucky into the ground as did Caddilac.

LOL Probably but did he do that with Josh Jacobs?

  96. Joe Says:

Bucs do not win their first Superbowl without Jon Gruden. Plain and simple.

    Absolutely!

  97. admin Says:

he still sucks at personnel decisions

    Really bad!

  98. Joe Says:

Ring of honor is for players or coaches who become legends through lifetime accomplishments with us.

Winning the franchise’s first Super Bowl — in Joe’s eyes — is legendary.

  99. Joe Says:

If Todd ainā€™t hatin? then neither am I.

Chucky was invited to attend Michigan practice last week at Jesuit (where that photo was taken). If you are not familiar with who now coaches Michigan, use Google.

  100. Mike Johnson Says:

Don’t have to be familiar with who now coaches Michigan. Could care less about them.Joe..But thanks. Still, Nice photo and I echo my comment. CHUCKY GOT A RAW DEAL FROM THE NFL: AND THE COMMISH. ..Period.

  101. Joe Says:

Donā€™t have to be familiar with who now coaches Michigan. Could care less about them.

That’s not the point. But Michigan’s coach backs up your suggestion if you only have a sliver of an open mind to know who he is.
