Liam Coen’s Wife Lashes Back

January 24th, 2025

So among the many unsourced, gossip-magazine-style reports from major news outlets about former Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen jilting the the Bucs to take the Jaguars’ head coaching job, was a recurring take that Coen blamed his lack of communication with the Bucs on a sick child.

Some presented that premis as if Coen was hiding behind a my-kid’s-sick story like a hungover single dad skipping work after watching a day’s worth of World Cup games.

Maybe he did. Maybe he didn’t.

And that’s why Joe has been using “allegedly” when referring to all these reports.

Those who say they know based on anonymous sources are too often trusting the wrong people. Not always, but too often for Joe to swallow the entire Coen story whole.

Was Coen at a routine doctor visit with his child? Or was he in the hospital? Was he at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville or a second-rate urgent care facility east Tampa?

Joe has no clue, though Coen’s wife Ashley took to X to share her outrage.

“I hate that I even have to say this, but when people are negative about my kids, I will not be silent. Our son is sick, we were at the hospital yesterday seeing a specialist for his autoimmune disease,” Mrs. Coen typed. “Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.”

Coen previously had referenced his child being sick in a news conference at One Buc Palace.

Unfortunately, Joe has experience with chronic disease in children and the way Coen said it months ago made Joe at the time think Coen wasn’t referencing a routine illness.

Regardless, Coen deserves zero rope for unprofessionally communicating with the Bucs and slithering out of his agreement the wrong way. But his shenanigans may not be as severe as has been ruled by the court of public opinion.

I don’t care if he was on Mars he didn’t answer his phone for hours.

  2. Murph Says:

He didn’t have time to respond to Bucs but he was able to negotiate with Jacksonville. Doesn’t sound quite right.

  3. Ds Says:

I understand but he still went to Jax lol

  4. Rod Munch Says:

All this fake news drama nonsense is about him not answering the phone for a few hours – when he and his wife were at the hospital dealing with a sick kid. WOW, you idiots complaining about this look even worse now than before.

  10. Rod Munch Says:

Can any of you morons actually explain why he was sneaking around?

    Like why?

He could sign a contract with the Bucs for a huge new offer, and 5 seconds later tear it up and sign with the Jags if they’re making him headcoach.

Do any of people whining about this even understand the basics of how these contract work in the NFL, and how there was literally nothing the Bucs could do to block him from taking that job?

So if that’s the case, what exactly is the conspiracy here?

From all legit reports, he was going to return to the Bucs, when Tampa rushed to tell the media that he was returning (even though he wasn’t even in the building and didn’t sign anything), the Jags upon learning that fired their GM which was reportedly the reason Coen turned down the job.

In fact, had the Bucs not rushed to tell the media Coen was back, would the Jags have even made a move to fire their GM? It certainly seemed to be in response to the Bucs PR stunt.

  11. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

“Please don’t spread misinformation and assume because you heard one side.”

We’ve only heard one side. Both her and him have had something to say and neither told us their side.

  12. Saskbucs Says:

Have any of you ever been to a doctors office? I imagine there was plenty of time for a 5 min call to the GM instead of calling the HC 8 hours later.

So what is the right way of doing things?

“Hey honey, I need to call the Bucs right this instant, they’re demanding I sign some nonsense non-binding contract and they’re saying no matter if our kid is on his deathbed they need that document now for their 5pm press release.”

What exactly is the series of events that took place in your mind where Coen is some evil, scheming bad guy?

  14. Murph Says:

The moron is the one who constantly calls people names. He snuck around because he wasn’t sure he had the job. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

Have you ever been to hospital with your kid and wife and said, hey, I really need to deal with work right now, so you take care of all this petty stuff, the Bucs need me to sign off on a press release statement and it can’t wait a few hours.

  16. Scott Says:

  17. Capt Kidd Says:

Coen getting the contract was under the stipulation that he turned down a 2nd interview. Coen himself texted the players that he was back and ready to get to work.

In addition Jville had Graham lined up for an interview the next morning to comply with the Rooney rule. So both sides had reasons to be quiet like a snake.

Let’s talk non stop about a one hit wonder OC with zero HC experience that took a much higher paying job.

Instead of talking about the real issue the Tampa Bay Bucs find themselves in.

Canales didn’t exactly light the world on fire in Carolina, and we improved without him. We can do it again easily.

A real HC and DC are the main issues besides some roster needs. Get it done!

    ———

OK … so the Bucs would fire him … for what exactly?

    For seeking a promotion?

If the Bucs made up some nonsense clause that says he can’t seek a promotion with another team, first off, that isn’t binding for, and it would almost certainly setup the Bucs for some big penalty from the NFL, like multiple 1st round draft picks type of penalty.

If you can just make coaches sign deals that they won’t seek interviews for head coaching positions with other teams, then why doesn’t everyone do that to keep their coaches? They don’t do that, because you can’t.

    ———

Well yesterday I saw stories saying he was returning to Tampa because of Baker. So now that he isn’t returning, well… 1+1=2, right?

Speaking of 2, that’s 2 years in a row that Baker’s OC couldn’t wait to get out of town and go somewhere else. What does that tell you?

  24. MJC Says:

Why all the drama in reporting this?? Liam interviewed with Jax and it seems logical that he was not ready to accept HC job given their GM. Once GM was fired then the circumstances changed.

Yes, he gave a verbal agreement to the Bucs to stay and it was leaked out that he was staying.

But the HC gig in JAX is a promotion and huge pay increase. How can you not accept it if that is the role he wants.

Wish him the best! Move on and find another top OC.

If he really did the Bucs wrong the league is a small fraternity and teams will know he did not handle the departure well. Lesson learned.

I trust Jason will find another OC. Who would not want to come to this offense that has Baker, Mike, (hopefully Chris), Top RB’s and a solid OL.

  25. Bucfan94 Says:

So in other words, big boy Liam, requires his wife’s assistance to make any and every decision. You can’t even come out against his haters without his wife doing it for him, Even though he unprofessionally did all of this himself.

Now with all that said, how in the world is this an excuse anyways? Like how stupid does she think we are. Yes their child might have actually been in the hospital, but he still had time to make all these arrangements with the Jacksonville jaguars to become their head coach. But yeah he didn’t have time to make a simple phone call to the bucks about what was going on?

Yeah f*** him and his wife

  26. Half_Sac Says:

He couldn’t respond to the bucs and tell them he was still thinking about the JAGs jox cause his son was sick. But…. He could agree to a deal while his son was sick with the JAGS?

  27. Bobby Says:

Would Jon Gruden consider returning to Bucs to be the offensive coordinator in 2025 season?? Would the Glazer fans even consider this?? Gruden has expressed in his YouTube videos how much he loves Baker and Mike Evans and all the zBucs offensive pieces. I think Todd Bowkes still as HC collaborating with Chucky would be a very successful combination next season. What say you Joe?? Forget Cohen he is go e. Let’s move on. Bring Jon Gruden back as OC!!!

Panthers actually went 4-5 down the stretch, including 3 point loses to KC, Tampa and a 6 point loss @Philly, and they seem to have turned around Young, which is the reason Canales was hired.

I think, overall, considering how helpless that team looked last year, that Panthers fans are pretty happy with how the year ended.

  29. Bucswin! Says:

He is the enemy now. Hire Suh! Go Bowles!

  30. Let’s Go Says:

Move on. In 3 seasons Bowles has 1-Fired Leftwich, who he did NOT hire. 2-Hided Canales who had never called plays but did well enough to become HC after one season. 3-Hired Coen who did BETTER than Canales and is now a HC after one season. Let Bowles find a new OC and give it a chance he’s 2 for 2 in choosing OCs. And as far as being mad at Coen for taking the job, remember Leftwich backed out of opportunity to be HC in Jacksonville when he was seen as a hot commodity to stay in Tampa. Now he can’t get an interview to be an OC let alone a HC. Coen took the opportunity when it was there and I can’t blame him. BTW, Khan seems like a loser, but he knows the Bucs talked Leftwich out of taking the job so it’s understandable he wouldn’t want Coen telling them what’s going on.

  31. gotbbucs Says:

This is absolute bullspit on the Buccaneers part. Don’t think for a moment that their handling of this situation won’t weigh into the decisions of future coaching hires. There’s no such thing as a bind handshake deal in the NFL. There is nothing they can do beyond hire Coen as a head coach that can stop him from interviewing for another head coaching openning.

He was at the Jags facilities yesterday so can’t be both. Just a matter of credibility. Best of luck, we can move on.

Apparently 26 hours went by before he contacted anyone from the Bucs when he was supposed to be at 1 Buc to sign his OC contract. So, his kid was in the hospital for 26 hours? Someone at the Bucs got tipped off that Liam was already in Jacksonville when he said he was going to Jacksonville.

    Stop circle jerking with Liam.

    ————

    OK lets say that’s true…

All reports are that he was going to return to Tampa because he didn’t like the Jags GM. Then, after the Bucs rushed to do a big press release on Coen returning, the Jags fired their GM and reapproached him.

Are you actually saying he should have turned down the gig because he texted some people he was going to return?

There’s not a single person here posting that is going to turn down $50m to take $15m because they texted people they were returning a few hours later.

Are you allegeding that he was never going to return, and was just screwing with people? Why would he do that? What is the point?

It’s very obvious what happened – he planned to return, then the Jags unexpectedly caved, and offered him a once in a lifetime deal that provides him and his family with generational wealth.

You’re not turning that down because you texted Trey Palmer, “see you next season, I’m back.”

You could also say that 2-years in a row now Baker’s OC, after only 1-year, were hired to be Head Coaches. Heck, that’s a pretty nice sales pitch Todd Bowles and the Bucs have when interviewing for a new OC. “Want to be a Head Coach in a year?”

Because I know one thing for a fact, if I’m telling the truth about my kid being in the hospital, and that’s the reason I couldn’t contact the bucs, then there’s no way I’ll be the new head coach of the Jacksonville jaguars

  55. Cowardly Liam Says:

Put a leash on her Liam! Hilarious that she’s trying to spin this as if they are the victims. “Please don’t attack my family, we are innocent in this and we were unable to reach anyone because of our sickly child!” What a joke, no one attacked her family, they simply call out her husband for his shady actions and lack of integrity. Nice try though cupcake.

  56. Rich Says:

The real problem facing the bucs that everyone is missing is that Bowles is basically a lame duck HC. 65. Bucfan94 Says:

    @ unbelievable

Exactly. How stupid do they think we are. He couldn’t answer the phone or told the bucks anything cuz his kid was so called in the hospital, yet he had time to already be in Jacksonville discussing a contract? It’s stupid and pathetic.

And then people like rod defending him are making themselves look even stupider to believe this nonsense. Cuz if she’s telling the truth, then Liam has no time to be in Jacksonville already discussing a contract.

  66. Joe in Michigan Says:

    EEK: Amen.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

Bucfan94 – But what is all the intrigue about? The Bucs literally can’t fire him for seeking a promotion – and again, a non-binding verbal contract doesn’t change that.

I just don’t get this series of events where he’s somehow scheming and backstabbing.

Doesn’t it just make a lot more sense that he planned to return, and when the Jags found out, they caved on his demands to get rid of their GM and they re-approached him?

Then, from Coen’s side, he’s dealing with a sick kid, the Jags are are on the phone, his agent is on the phone, they’re going back and forth – and he hasn’t responded to the Bucs for a few hours because he’s not even sure what to tell them since he doesn’t even know himself what is going to happen?

I honestly do not understand how people are gaming this out to be some sort of sinister plot. Again, we’re talking hours – not weeks or even days of uncertainty. It literally makes no impact on the Bucs plans, they didn’t take all their prospect coaching data and put it through a paper shredder or anything.

I wanted him back, I’d have fired Bowles in a second if that was the binary opinion at hand, but I have no ill will towards him. He did an amazing job at OC.

  68. Watch Daddy Sling It Says:

Fans are entitled to expect the organization is always doing everything possible to win a super bowl, every single season. Anything less is ultimately failure.

Carolina going 4-5 down the stretch (when the pressure long off to actually win) is failure. 10-7 one and done is lesser level of failure.

It’s also fair to expect every single coaching prospect to know that the money will always come in their profession, and to then have the attitude: “money is money, I want my bust in Canton”, and carry themselves that way.

There’s no obvious candidate for Canton on the current staff, although Bowles does have two rings.

The new head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars doesn’t exactly seem like there’s a good jacket waiting for him, either.

    ——–

Yeah, although I will say, it’s really not as simple as the Bucs keeping Bowles and not giving him the job. I went through it in another thread, but because of the ridiculous Rooney Rule, the Bucs literally wouldn’t just hand him the job. Before they did anything they would have had to fire Bowles, then interview multiple candidates (obviously including Coen) and in the meantime, any other team is free to make Coen their head coach. You could have ended up in a situation where you lost Bowles and Coen unexpectedly. It was really a risky move to make – and to be sure, I’d have hired Coen in a second if that was an option.

And Coen was like, no way would I ever stab the guy in the back who hired me, and I don’t want the job if it means having to do that, and I’ll just go to Jacksonville. And the Glazers were like, no, you can’t do that, haven’t you ever been to Jacksonville – the city literally smells awful, you need to visit when it’s not covered in snow suppressing the smell.

And Coen was like, I don’t care if it smells, I’m going. And the Glazers were like, OK but please don’t tell anyone we made you this offer, and Coen being a great guy said he’d take the heat and look like the bad guy for the sake of his good buddy Bowles.

The Bucs can’t do that. The NFL has pretty strict rules about not blocking promotions to head coach. You can’t offer a coach a 2-tier contract based on not taking interviews for promotions. I really hope that is made up media nonsense, because if it’s not, and the Bucs truly did that, the NFL is going to do an ‘investigation’ and the Bucs are going to end up losing some very valuable draft picks at the very least.

  78. Bucfan94 Says:

    @shane247

Again, this type of take is stupid. There’s a difference between respect, and disrespect. All Liam had to do was make a simple call to the bucks, and let them know what was going on. Instead of ghosting for 24 hours, just to have his wife lie about the reason he couldn’t call them. Because if he couldn’t have the time to call the bucks because of his child being in the hospital, how the hell did he have the time to go to Jacksonville to do the contract?

I promise you, if you give most of us the same type of circumstances, we would be respectful about it and keep the team in the loop. Not tell the players I’m returning, just to ghost them. If anything, people like you and rod deserve to suck each other up.

And again@ Rod you are so f****** stupid. You’re going on and on about s*** a single damn person is mentioning. He disrespected the bucks, and lied about the reason he ghosted them. Told the players he was returning. Then , just to have his wife make a BS lie. When obviously he had plenty of time to go to Jacksonville. We’re sorry y’all are too stupid to understand this. And to understand the difference between respect and disrespect. Go root for the Chiefs.

Ehh Coen dug his own grave with this situation. He screwed it up. Why not just say you were actively looking for new work, even if you planned to stay? There’s no harm in making that statement. I tel my bosses that all the time, it’s not a threat – it’s being considerate of the people that pay your bills. Could have stated that right after the playoffs and none of this would be unfolding how it is. Shoot he could have stated it before the playoffs! (He kinda did, but ina backwards type of way)

And I’d never let my wife get involved. I’d man up and have issued a statement immediately. And tell her to stay off social media

  83. dbbcpa Says:

Rod, I agree with you that they can’t block him from taking a HC job. But I think they could say here is a new contract but it is void if you do this.

  84. Coburn Says:

Sounds like his wife is sorta twisting things to take pressure off. Nobody was saying mean stuff about her kid. They were updet Coen said he was with his kid all day when he wasn’t. The fact he was with him for part of it before his interview doesn’t change much imo. He still called Bowles and said hr was with his sick kid and maybe is having second thoughts about Jax even when he had already interviewed and was taking the job. Still lame

  85. Ultra ClodHopper Says:

  88. Anyhony Says:

  90. Bucfan94 Says:

    @David

Apparently it was 26 hours, or close to it. But I really do not see how anybody can defend Liam after this. Yes, I understand. Took a better job. I understand. I probably would have also taken the job. I also understand. Respect. And not lying to the team and players all the while ghosting them.

I would have been fine had he done this respectfully. But not only was he disrespectful, he had his wife lie. Yeah he might have been at the hospital at one point with her, but he was in Jacksonville making a contract, yet has no time to contact the buccaneers.

It’s really pathetic. Something people like Rod don’t understand. There’s a difference between doing things. Respectfully and disrespectfully. Liam chose disrespectfully

  91. Larrd Says:

I 100% agree, Rod. It’s disgusting that anyone would say a word about a father dealing with a child suffering from an illness.

Look, he’s gone. Why be mad? He took a much higher paying job in a community that has a Mayo Clinic. He has a sick child. He owes none of us anything.

Football is a sport. How can anyone be so angry about him leaving?

  93. DoooshLaRue Says:

A song I have to revisit weekly in my mind from the Eagles..”Take it Easy”!!!

So am I the only guy or lady who has suffered a divorce here? Do any of you remember taking a SOLEMN VOW “FROM THIS DAY FORWARD”.

Are all of us who suffered a divorce, scumbags, snakes, traitors etc?

Is it situational? Perhaps one side didn’t want the divorce? I don’t know, situations vary and divorces are none of my business!

OK now I’m going to pull out the really HEAVY artillery!

“Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”

I get that Coen could have handled things better! I was one of the first yesterday to criticize him based on just the rumors then. But it’s gotten totally out of control and actually kind of sad when a person’s spouse has to defend a situation where her CHILD has been brought up.

3 parties were negotiating. 2 of them wanted the same guy. All 3 parties struggled to get the upper hand! This gave 1 party LEVERAGE! For the sake of his kids, wife and HIMSELF he used that leverage.

Along the way the guy thought he was going to accept one deal before changing his mind for the much HIGHER deal. In between however he shared his first decision with people he cared about and went into NFL combat with. Then with virtually NO time to spread the news he accepted the other deal.

Who was harmed? Well so far Mrs, Coen. For Gods sake get over it!!!
It’s time for the venting to stop.

Then proceeds to immediately ghost the Buc, then have his wife say he was in the hospital which is why he couldn’t get a hold of the buccaneers, all the wow, he somehow has plenty of time to be in Jacksonville signing a contract.

We’re sorry that you enjoy being disrespected by people that say one thing then immediately do another. Had he been up front and honest the entire time, not ghost the bucks, or have his wife lie? I guarantee you a lot of us would be wishing him the best. But again sorry you enjoy being disrespected.

he failed and took the jacksonville gig…

I OTOH am a skeptic. I don’t believe much, if anything until its proven to me. Gotta see it with my eyes, hear with my ears kind of guy.

There is no doubt you could be correct, you could also be wrong, so you’ll forgive me if I’d rather disbelieve your story. I do not know the actual % of human behavior who would pull a stunt like you describe, but I’m not naive I know there are plenty. But there are plenty, perhaps even more, who would never think to stoop to such treachery. I simply choose to err on the side of believing in the decency in people. Our owners are 1 of ONLY 4 owners who have brought Super Bowl Wins to their cities. Out of 32 teams ONLY FOUR of them have made it in the past ten years including YOUR Tampa Bay Bucs.

The Bucs are one of only two teams along with New Orleans to win FOUR straight NFC South titles. The Bucs can break the Saints record with another title this year.

Sooooo The Bucs have won a Super Bowl and four straight Division Championships!!!

I’m not sure how they pulled this off repeatedly making bad coaching decisions and wasting talent. Perhaps you can enlightened us as to where they found this magic.

  122. firethecannons Says:

If you would have just been honest and told the glazer family and Todd Bowles that he was approached once more by Jags ownership having fired the GM and made him an offer he couldn’t reviews and then took the job I would have no issues cuz I think anybody in that situation would take a job giving them triple pay and higher status. I feel your pain bro but it ain’t going to happen. This isn’t a “forum” – it’s a comments section of a blog. They don’t have that feature. If it were possible at all the owners would need allow registration and logins from all members.

Actual web “forums” are a different creature altogether and have many many features that you are not going to find in a comments section. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any football or specifically Bucs “forums” where ignoring, attachments, links, etc are built in.

    Someone should really build one.

  130. Shane247 Says:

@Bucfan94- First of all it’s Bucs, not Bucks! One is short for Buccaneers and the other is a male deer. Maybe you’re confused, which would explain a lot!

It’s easy to sell a narrative, you make a statement and keep repeating it until it’s accepted as the truth. I believe they call this “illusory truth effect”. Who knows exactly what was said, what was promised, how it was interpreted. Do you know for a fact that his child isn’t sick? Do you know for a fact he ghosted the Bucs? Your truths are only as good as the information you’re being fed. How much is accurate? Is it your hubris or your ego that won’t allow for critical thinking? Is rational thinking foreign to you or do you just prefer to act like an adolescent, reacting on emotion? Either way, your truth, my truth it doesn’t matter, he’s outta here!

  131. Cometowin2 Says:

IMHO he’s gone from top man to exceed to most disliked person in Tampa. You know what they say about karma. Thank you Glazers for trying, just hire the best candidate that keeps the same offense. Resign Chris Godwin and we’ll score over 30 a game in 2025.

I would think give Chris, Mikes same 20 mil per year. Slight discount to market. Maybe index to inflation for the year. 1A & 1B.

  132. BUCDADDY Says:

Eh….we don’t really need him anyway. Heck, he was probably the genius who drew up the jet sweep to McMillan that cost us the game. That will be the lasting legacy of Coen in Tampa for me, so bye bye.

  133. Josh Says:

At this point, who cares? He’s in Jacksonville. Who’s the NEXT guy??

Let’s give Thaddeus Lewis a shot. He served as the wide receivers coach for two years and has been Baker Mayfield’s quarterback coach for the last two seasons. He’s extremely familiar with the system and has built a strong relationship with Baker. I’m sure both Bowles and Mayfield would feel comfortable with him taking over.

If Todd Bowles is gone after next year, it’s likely that his coordinators will be gone as well, and we’ll be looking at another new head coach. If Bowles sticks around, we’ll either see a coach promoted from within who has turned the offense around or he has fixed the defense. Either way, it’s a positive because it would mean we’re back in the playoffs and possibly a Super Bowl run. I think if Bowles doesn’t win at least one playoff game next season, he should be gone. In my opinion, it should be two games but it depends on how it all shakes out honestly.

Alternatively, the Bucs could bring in someone like Alex Van Pelt, Klint Kubiak, or another qualified candidate. BUT It’s time to move on from the current situation. While he’s been a real “class act” in some ways, let’s be honest—he did it for the money, just like any of us would. That doesn’t make him any less shady as a person to me personally. It’s 2025, and it takes 10-15 seconds to send a text.

GG I’m not sure we agree on this one. I guess I’m a huge free speech advocate.

I only post on one other blog Quora which is International in scope and has many topics people can visit and debate including politics. But there also financial advice discussions etc. There are no “ignore Buttons” but there is a moderator report button and if the person has crossed the guidelines their post is deleted.

Here is what I do not understand. I certainly do not read all the posters here.
When I hit a name I wish to “ignore” it takes me actually less than a second to simply slide it down with my finger on my tablet, scroll wheel on my desktop.

Again what is the advantage of an ignore button? I’m truly ignorant about this. Perhaps the blog moderator keeps score or reveals how many “ignores” a poster gets to shame them? The convenience of hitting a button versus simply scrolling is negligible.

  135. BUCDADDY Says:

I mean, we have Bucky Irving and you go against all rational common sense at that stage of the game. Run a jet sweep instead a simple off-tackle or draw play. A lot of our offense was Baker improvising and extending plays. Don’t believe Coen had as much to do with our success as everyone thinks.

  136. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Josh

I like your idea of Thad Lewis, his glaring weakness is lack of play calling experience but perhaps Coach Bowles could also promote a DC and mentor them both. There are other people on staff who could also help Lewis learn the ropes.

They moved Shands? Was in Gainesville (UF) when I left there. It’s a teaching hospital – part of UF – last I heard.

The issue was never the child or his care. But if it was an appt they knew about it in advance and could have told the Bucs brass he would be unavailable at that time. If (and its a BIG IF) it were a medical emergency, it’d be different, but I don’t recall hearing that, so I find her outrage disingenuous at best.

But, whatever really. Don’t care about the Coens anymore. Yesterdays mashed potatoes. Good luck and enjoy Jacksonville – lolol

  139. Bigbucfan90 Says:

  140. Josh Says:

Dave Canales hadn’t called plays before coming to the Bucs, and Liam Coen had only one season under his belt as Kentucky’s offensive coordinator. Thad Lewis, who was part of McVay’s staff, before he came here strikes me as the ideal choice. Just a humble, well-meaning fan here, but it seems like a no-brainer. After a few years with the Bucs, you’d think someone like Thad would have a bit of loyalty, too. He knows the system, and honestly, it feels like he’s the type of guy who could take the next step with a little more responsibility.

  141. Darren caputo Says:

Can we get gruden to do the Oc job. Loved that guy!

  142. GoneGator Says:

    @stpete
Forum software like Phpbb and many others have an ignore feature where you will not even see the posts by people you specify. It’s not per post but a blanket thing.
There are a lot of other features available on a “forum” script that aren’t available in a comments section. The site script used here is a blog script that allows comments on articles. It’s not designed for discussions.

So for instance, you just got tired of reading a certain poster/s, cause it just pi$$ed you off repeatedly but you still wanted to discuss football (or whatever) at a site, you could block them and never even see their posts.

It’s not a free speech issue at all. Everybody still gets to say (or scream) what they want – its the cyber equivalent of ear plugs – you just don’t have to hear everybody. I’ve been on a number of “forums” and even designed and built a few, but I’ve never had to put someone on ignore, then again I’ve never run across a crowd like this – lol.

It’s a feature that gives you a choice as to who’s posts you have to read. Not all “forums” have this feature, or have it enabled, but it is an option on many/most discussion forum scripts.

Linked to one of the most popular scripts, if it gets thru the software/moderators here.

  143. Tbbucs3 Says:

  145. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Josh

Thanks for that reassurance. Clearly Lewis should have the inside track! He comes BA approved and he’s been the guy with Baker through the past two personal best seasons.

I think we all agree if it ain’t broke don’t fix it and Thad would come in with a bit of modesty and restraint that somebody like McCarthy would not.

Continuity would be a wonderful thing and if they also locked up Carberry to make sure Lewis has a well oiled OL I think the Bucs would be ready to roll.

Then attention could be focused on the neglected area of defense. Hope Jason has a draft of D stars this season to match his amazing offensive haul last year.

Imagine getting a cornerstone starting center and a perhaps generational Running back in the same draft!

  146. GoneGator Says:

Who cares if he didn’t answer them or whatever, what were the Bucs going to do? Fire Bowles and pay him 13m a year ? If not then it’s a moot point and you’re all up in arms about strangers . Get some hobbies and some goals and go touch grass

  161. No Mercy Says:

After what he pulled on Kentucky this guy is a certified back stabber. He can’t help it, it’s who he is, it’s in his DNA, to have zero integrity. His word means absolutely nothing. He is no Tony Montana.

That being said he was offered a head coach job and the Bucs wanted to keep toilet Bowles as coach. If the bucs wanted Coen bad enough they could’ve kept him. They didn’t, and Liam doesn’t owe allegiance to anyone on the Bucs if he’s pretty much already moved on, even if it’s a completely spineless the way he does business

Can’t wait for another 9 win season and an early playoff exit next season with Todd because that’s the ceiling for us now

  162. No Mercy Says:

Kind of crazy though for Liam to do the Bucs so dirty knowing Jacksonville is like a 3 hour drive away. Like If he was going to Seattle or something whatever. But bro you’re coaching a team in a city with a lot of Bucs fans too. It’s going to be awkward for bro no doubt

  163. Aqualung Says:

He’s shown who he is. He’s self identified. I don’t feel sorry for his wife because she just became a glitterati. But if she’d married a non-coward she wouldn’t be seeing the social media abuse.

    Get used to it honey

  164. Defense Rules Says:

Personally could care less that Liam Coen has taken the HC job in Jacksonville. I liked him as our OC & figured that he’d be in-line for a HC gig in the near future (felt it was gonna be here in 2026 or 2027, but hey, money talks). It was a business decision on his part, and any of us would’ve made the same one (for $50 mil?).

From the various reports I’ve read, Coen was gonna stay here BUT Kahn made an offer he simply couldn’t pass up (huge $$$ PLUS apparently some input in the next GM hire). He’s got the foundation of a decent team in Jacksonville, at least considerably better than what Canales started with in Carolina. How it ‘went down’ doesn’t really concern me at this point; it’s over & done.

What DOES concern me is that the Bucs ended up (for 2 years now) with ZERO compensation for losing our OC after the initial year. Coen was under contract (the old contract) for 2025, but the NFL rules allow ‘an out’ if a HC job is offered and accepted. That sucks; big time. HCs are protected by NFL rules; why not OCs & DCs? They’re just as critical to the success of a team IMO.

If a coordinator is under a contract when the offer is made, NFL rules should require the gaining team to compenate the other (I prefer a 1st-Rnd pick if it occurs after the 1st year of the OC’s contract, or a 2nd-Rnd pick if he’s pilfered after the 2nd year (but with contract years still to go).

  165. Davyboy🏴‍☠️ Says:

No Rod we can’t tell you why. Why don’t you tell us why? You haven’t been wrong for 2 years on just about everything football. I’m sure your opinion matters, at least to you. Tell us we can’t wait…

    @Defense:

yeah, shame we can’t get or didn’t compensation for these type of losses…

    a 1st or 2nd rounder sounds like a nice payback…

heck i’d even be cool with a 3rd for a coen or a davey cantaloupes

Thanks for that education. I probably would benefit from it not for the convenience but for protecting me against myself. I wouldn’t take the bait because I didn’t see it tossed to begin with.

I support the idea but as for me personally I feel like I might be copping out.
I honestly (the worst lies you tell are the ones you tell yourself) can use some practice in learning more self control around idjits. Again…

Mark Twain — ‘Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience.’

I’m getting my butt kicked here because I stoop to argue with the stupid.
IGNORE button would certainly prevent that but I truly wish I could develop enough self discipline to do it on my own. It’s a weakness I work on daily…and fail too frequently.

  171. Mike Johnson Says:

Sorry Joe, But not many care about Coens lack of professionalism. Its the way Biz is done nowadays. Just check out Washington DC nowadays. Most people posting here I gather to say make less than 100 grand a yr. They have no idea what BIG MONEY does to the psyche. I do. They say they do, but they don’t. I don’t loathe Coen one iota. Take the money and run. Look out for you and your family. Fans certainly will not. I wish him nothing but the best. We pay Bowles 3 mil a yr. Coens gonna make 4 times that yearly. You get what you pay for. Buc Life Baby.
    GO BUCS.

    @stpete
When I stopped using alcohol (which IS a drug for those unaware) I was told that my newfound sobriety might make me want to “save” others, and that a sober alcoholic/addict in a room full of drunks would more likely result in me being drunk again before I got any of them sober.

Same is true here. We are not going to sway anybody who’s close-minded, or bigoted, or just an a-hole from being who/what they are. That became apparent a LONG time ago but I continue to engage with them more than I should. If I’m frustrated, it’s on me. I should know better BUT it’s really difficult to skip certain people’s comments by scrolling past and they still, at times, piss me off. It’s obviously mentally stimulating but in a very negative way.

I do better when I remember the dummies who want to bicker, or trigger others (trolls), are less important than the pimple currently on my a$s. Sometimes I forget that and think I need to play with them, or give them info that would alter their viewpoint but we both know by now thats not happening with “those people” – lol

  175. firethecannons Says:

To Liam Coen’s wife: El Serpiente is a fitting name. Its just that we were ALL so glad to have Coen, thrilled, overjoyed, grateful, optimistic. He was glad, he said he was going to stay in Tampa, he accepted a huge raise. He spoke with Baker and others and talked about 2025. Then the next day time to sign and he ghosts the Bucs over and over, missing appointments. He knew that it specified no further meetings with Jags. He spent the day in full communication with Shad Khan and he used the Bucs new offer to strong arm Jacksonville into Ben Johnson numbers. He basically lied to the Glazers, Jason Licht, Greenberg and Todd Bowles. These are all decent people. So we are all disappointed and hurt as we thought he was part of the Bucs organization. Anyway, Coen’s lack of integrity will not be forgotten year in and year out.
