Jason Licht Endorses Bucs Coaching, Stability

January 13th, 2025

Bucs GM Jason Licht

Disclaimer for the highly volatile: Joe has no say or impact when it comes to Bucs organizational decisions.

And stop throwing social media feces at Joe.

Todd Bowles will be the Bucs’ head coach next season. Joe said it and wrote it last week and nothing has changed. If you don’t like it, call Bucs headquarters or change your buying habits.

Why has Joe been saying this? Because that’s what Joe’s been told, Ira Kaufman, too.

Speaking on the team’s radio network last night, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager lauded the Bucs’ culture and operation.

“It’s a good time to be a Buc,” Licht said. “We’re doing a lot of great things, the entire organization. A lot of stability has helped. Obviously, great players, great coaching. So it’s an exciting time.”

Losing is painful. Watching a once proud and stingy defense get toyed with is painful.

Joe’s in pain, too. But that agony isn’t tied to processing another Todd Bowles season. He’s back, and the Bucs are in position to improve significantly.

  1. Lt. Dan Says:

“Todd Bowles will be the Bucs’ head coach next season.”

Then us Bucs fans need to embrace mediocrity.

  2. Aj Says:

    not gonna hate on todd…
but someone else needs to start calling timeouts!

this man loses 15 seconds BEFORE he calls ANY timeout

  3. Kgh4life Says:

It will be the same thing all over again.

  4. HC Grover Says:

Aaaand it will be the Same old Bucs. Instant replay time. Falcons and Bucs down to the wire. 8-9….9-8….other 10-7. One and done if we win the division again. Oh well on to the draft and all the interesting trades and other off season fun.
    Have to draft for defense.

  5. Day 1-76 Says:

This is the Bucs ceiling as long as Bowles controls the defense. They may not even reach this ceiling next year with the other teams in the division improving.

  6. Jarrett Says:

    Fire Bowles.

  7. D-Rome Says:

Bowles has a better win percentage than Jon Gruden and if the Bucs go 8-9 next season he’ll have a better win percentage than Tony Dungy. Both of those coaches have been in the Ring of Honor. Dungy doesn’t have a Super Bowl ring with the team.

It would be stupid to go another direction with a head coach. Last night’s loss is not on Todd Bowles. There are key players on defense who were not on the field.

  8. TheMightyVH Says:

I certainly hope he doesnt endorse his defense because they stink. Last night recap –

Washington – zero three and outs
    Washington – zero punts
    Washington plays 69 Bucs 44
Washington time of possession – 36 min Bucs 24
    Turnovers – Washington 0 Bucs 1

Quinn’s team executed his game plan. Bucs defense cant get off field – EVER.

  9. LVMYBUCS Says:

Tony Dubgi era was the same he kept getting us to the playoffs but never to the SB then they fired his as and Gruden got us over the hump.

  10. TomBucsFan Says:

done with bowles, we are going no where with him as the game manager

  11. JustOneGame Says:

DRome, I’m curious, which key players were not available when the Commanders orchestrated a 17 play 92 yard drive that ate over 10 minutes of play time?

  12. Couch Fan Says:

Every coach has to deal with the same excuses you are giving Bowles a pass for.
The guy is a mediocre HC. What more do you need to see? So we have to have a season where everyone stays healthy in order for you slow pokes to understand how mediocre he is? Pathetic.

  13. LVMYBUCS Says:

If this division ever get really good the Bucs are not going to be in the playoffs in the future shoot they almost didnt make it this season and will be one and done every year until they get the concept of NO RISK NO BISC!

  14. OHBucFan Says:

Joe, you’d be hearing the same thing after next week’s loss to Philly or the following week’s loss to Detroit. In fact, if the Bucs would have won the SB, there would be dozens of replies on how it was in spite of Bowles not because of him.
Let the haters hate. He’s a solid coach with a staff that develops players. Players that want to play for him. Would I like him to be more aggressive on short yardage fourth downs? Sure. What fan wouldn’t? But the fact is, the Bucs will be favored to win the South again next season and the team has gotten younger and better after Tom Brady. Fix the secondary, linebacker depth and maybe swing again for a DE that maybe get to the opponents QB.

  15. BucU Says:

Good to know Licht. Now we know to ignore this team until we get a HC who can actually coach.

  16. JustOneGame Says:

By the way, a good measuring stick will be next week’s game. The Lions D if far more decimated than ours. Let’s see how they do against the Commanders

  17. BallHawk75 Says:

When you accept your limitations, that’s all you’re left with.

Improvement and ambition are traits of people that simply refuse to lose.

Bowles will never be anything more than what he is right now.

As a HC all he’ll ever be is a loser.

The Joes are okay with that and they cover for the regime that employs him.

Licht has a huge blind spot with this coach.

    D.E.I. at its finest.

  18. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Todd Bowles would be a more effective head coach if he stops wearing two hats, Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. It’s time to hand the defense to some other defensive guru.

  19. Outrigger Says:

The only player on defense who was not on the field yesterday was Whitehead and he has played awful this season. Everyone else was back for the playoff game and the results were the same, no pash rush and receivers running wide ass open.

  20. AllmanbrosBucs Says:

I get the stoic demeanor but there needs to be a sense of urgency during parts of the game… a little fire, some emotion, some extra juice…team has talent but mired in mediocrity…as injured as this team was, suspect play calling and time management as well as some bold calls that should have been called cost this team at least 2 games…9-8 maybe 10-7 is prob all were gonna get from this HC…

  21. Pahpahmike Says:

I am fine with Bowles next season. I hope we can keep our OC. I think Bowles need to tweak his defensive coaches or replace them especially the D-line and CB coaches. I know Bowles is very loyal to his coaches but, he has to do something here and I am sure the Glazers has been in contact Licht about the situation

  22. Mondy Says:

I’m glad you’re okay with mediocrity Joe cause that’s all will be with that bum as a HC.

  23. Rjscheapseats Says:

    Good.
Two issues going forward. They need to get better on the defensive back end.

And they need to start finding a replacement for Evans – because his impact on the game is so huge.

The usual haters out. But the question isn’t whether Bowles can get over the hump – he ALREADY has.

The question is whether Baker can. That turnover suggests he might not.
You CANNOT turn the ball over inside your own 20 like that in playoff football.

Baker was great this year – but there are plenty of QB’s who are great in the regular season but who make killer mistakes in the playoffs.

And that fumble was a killer.

  24. LVMYBUCS Says:

Look if Todd Bowles was any good as a head coach he wouldn’t have been fired from other teams good coached don’t get let go

  25. miken Says:

Bowles ceiling will always be making it to the playoffs

  26. Couch Fan Says:

Comical how someone can pin the blame on a fumble and dismiss the defense letting them milk all the time off the clock while driving down the field as if that had nothing to do with the loss. LMAO

  27. LVMYBUCS Says:

“No risk it, no biscuit” Better learn that Glazers & Licht. Take a risk and get a better coach for a better result.

  28. Shane247 Says:

You don’t replace Bowles if you’re happy with .500 football. You don’t replace Bowles if game management & situational football aren’t important to you. You don’t replace Bowles if you don’t mind losing at home on a regular basis. You don’t replace Bowles if the idea of a rookie, a second string or even a 3rd string QB lighting you up isn’t unsettling. You don’t replace Bowles if those same QB’s having record days doesn’t induce nausea. You don’t replace Bowles if the sight of wide a$$ open receivers running untouched through your secondary doesn’t anger you. You don’t replace Bowles if soft a$$ zone schemes are your thing. You don’t replace Bowles if your team playing uninspired or flat doesn’t rub you the wrong way. You don’t replace Bowles if you want another year of the exact same thing.

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Commanders’ Linebackers were outstanding, the Bucs don’t have an Edge Rusher and Dennis is injured.
The difference in this game was the “overrated” turnover.
    J Daniels is a star.

  30. CChead Says:

Bowles is not the answer. If winning a Super Bowl is the goal, then Todd does not get you there. If the Bucs want to keep him as HC,fine. Under one condition, give up the defensive play calling and “Licht” needs to find a coordinator to take over.

  31. DBS Says:

Bucs offense couldn’t keep themselves on the field and score when they had the ball. They coughed the ball up in their on end of the field. Offense had its chance to eat clock too.

  32. bucnjim Says:

Yes the fumble probably cost us the game! The main issue though was Mayfield and the offense sat quietly on the bench while the Commanders marched up and down the field the entire night. The D even had a chance to be game savers. As we know the were not. Only had to force them to punt one time. Couldn’t do it!

  33. John Says:

Ego needs to be set aside. If Bowels remains head coach then the Buc’s need a defensive coordinator, period. How many of us Buc’s fans feel strongly that Bowels is a defensive play calling guru?

  34. Couch Fan Says:

If we were in any other division, Bowles would of already been fired.

  35. NotBakersFault Says:

I don’t understand all the support for Todd Bowles, based on the results, when his defense has not been the factor in the results. In fact, they’ve hindered us from going forward. If team Glazer understood Tony Dungy wasn’t gonna get us over the top, and made a coaching change, despite his success, why wouldn’t they take the same approach now? That change one is the Super Bowl before our window closed on the talent we had.

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

The D did stop them for four downs at the one…

Bakers fumble was horrible, but getting to the other end and not being able to convert 2nd and inches, and then 3rd and inches is even worse. In the end , the offense blew this game.

  37. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Tony Dungy had many successful years of Defense, but was fired because he couldn’t get over “the hump” in the point.

Todd Bowles is now at this “hump” ……

So how many more seasons will Bowles keep this up????

LVD and Evans will retire…… then now what?????

  38. JReel Buc Says:

If we a re stuck with him then the only thing to look foward to is FA and the Draft and hope the Talent will out play the scheme

  39. Pewter Power Says:

It is what it is but don’t R Kelly me and call it rain by saying he’s a great coach or we have great coaching at least make him bring in new assistants who can develop pass rushers. He was just easily out coached by a defensive guy with a rookie quarterback and a defensive we laughed at well 1 because we destroyed them. First year coach isn’t it a first year owner? But hey Glazers keep stacking this division titles. A defensive coordinator who has his corners on jugs machines for dropping interceptions but they are rarely around the ball

  40. Kenton Smith Says:

Wasn’t meant to be for us this year. Oh well. Dadgummit! I thought he missed that field goal! Their QB beat us pure and simple. That team won 7 games on their final possession this year. It’s not just us. My wife doesn’t watch football unless it was our kids or grandkids. But she watched the whole game last night. Possibly because I stood to pocket about 50 grand if we’d have won the Super Bowl. She’s saying something about lucky in love, I couldn’t have ever won that bet. I don’t know anything about that but I do know something. I will not bet anything on this team again, that probably jinxed us. We all have to take responsibility. Thanks Bucs staff and players for an excellent year and Joes for a hell of a forum for us to exchange our thoughts!!

  41. Pmike Says:

The fans are hurting this morning, but this game wasn’t as bad as we’re making it out to be. Bottom line, Coen and Mayfield left 14-21 points on the field, a rhythm just couldn’t get established. Kudos to the Commanders for keeping this offense under our average of 29.5 points per game. We won if we hit that.

And defense looked the best it has recently. We kept commanders to minimal scoring. JD was uncomfortable. The most uncomfortable he’s looked for the majority of this year.

Go Bucs. At the rate of our progression each offseason (ie look at the run game 2023 to 2024), I’m confident that Licht and Bowles will put together an even better team next year.

  42. Fred Says:

    Get rid of Dean!!

  43. Zman Says:

Stop watching football if you pin the blame on Baker. The D had no punts, no turnovers and we could not stop them. Oh. 7 picks all season. Stop trying to draft a DE, make a Garrett for Crosby and watch that dline. Pass rush makes average dbs look like pro bowlers.

  44. Matt Says:

Do we not have an analytics staff?

It’s clear as day Bowles makes suboptimal decisions constantly. Quinn alone was 10-20 pts better than Bowles yesterday.

  45. JReel Buc Says:

Interesting how as a collective fan bases can see the percieved issue yet behind close doors they see it completely different

  46. heyjude Says:

Good to hear! Todd has a better record than some coaches in the league and not getting fired. He has two years on his contract and he is on the NFL committee. Bravo to Todd.

Saying that, possibly bring in a defensive consultant to help; Salas? Todd is good at hiring so if we need a new OC, we will get one.

  47. DBS Says:

Dingy had the defense! Players! Bowles doesn’t. He has LVD.VEA. and Over paid Winfield who maybe wants to show up. Kancey. Don’t make me laugh. How many times did he sack the QB last night? The defense needs to be rebuilt.

  48. Matt Says:

So Bowles makes the worst decisions in the league.

    AND

His defense is awful. Zero punts and zero TO. They allowed Wash to drive deep on every single drive.

Even knowing that Bowles gives Washington the ball with 4 mins left. It was obvious to all we lose on a FG….obvious to all except Bowles

  49. Alanbucsfan Says:

    All of you blaming Bowles-
2nd and 1 on the Commanders 12 – FG. Coen wasn’t his best last night.

  50. DBS Says:

    Dungy

  51. JoeSea Says:

Really glad the commenters here aren’t making GM decisions or we’d be the Browns.

Everyone pegged us at 10 wins or less before the season and now Bowles is a bad guy for taking us there.

First year we have real $ to spend on FAs in the Bowles era. Lets see what they do with it. Need to figure out LB as quickly as possible.

  52. DBS Says:

Dean is one of the first that should be out the door today!

  53. Mike C Says:

Yeah Offense is The Strength of the team, feel like D did enough, and The O let us down, especially putting the D in a bad spot with that Fumble.

  54. Couch Fan Says:

Yes lets give the guy another season to keep making the same mistakes he’s made for the last 3. Brilliant!!!

  55. 941bucsfan Says:

Everyone continues to bring up zero punts, but leave out the facts of tampa stopping them on 4th down TWICE. That is called a turnover on downs, which is just as good as a turnover, which is just as good as a punt

  56. firethecannons Says:

I think there is a ceiling with Todd Bowles and we have hit it. Anyway with that said, at least we did not embarrass ourselves unlike the Chargers, Packers and even Broncos and Eagles(even though they won). I love this Bucs team with Baker and Evans and all the other guys on offense. Honestly had we more time on the field then perhaps we could of gotten our weapons going better. They never punted once. So defense was not able to stop them–they had no 3 and outs or even 6 and out–they never punted. Defense needs an overhaul, not a patch job. Licht needs to buy a pass rush x2.

  57. TheScourge Says:

Two things can be true at once, Todd Bowles did enough to save his job but next year will end pretty much the same way this one did. History is repeating itself. It will be just like Koetter’s third year.

  58. JD Still Says:

Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is indeed the true definition of insanity, but , continuing to support that insanity is really no different.

  59. Pmike Says:

It’s gotta be a hard life for the people who want Bowles gone.

Because it’s not gonna happen…. For years… get use to it

  60. Joe Bradberry Says:

Get a defensive coordinator. Keep Bowles. Baker did a great job this season

Who is out there right now who could take Bowles’ place besides Liam Coen? We could do worse.

  61. RBUC Says:

Any def, dumb, and blind person can see Bowles current situation has ZERO of a comparison to Dungy’s situation, back in the day!!! Dungy had a historically good defense in their prime and starting to age in some positions. He was loyal to a fault refusing to shake up his staff to do what was necessary to hold the offense accountable for raising their game with play calling and talent to complement that GREAT defense before the window closed. BOWLES DOESNT HAVE THE TALENT ON DEFENSE to demand ANYTHING great!!!! NO COMPARISON!!! The Glazers know this and aren’t going to hold Bowles feet to the fire cause they know they haven’t provided Bowles with defensive resources,to this point, to expect excellence out of this team. If anything the Bucs are OVER ACHIEVING

  62. adam from ny Says:

swap out a few “duds” for “dudes” on defense and we just might be “otay”…

a little bit of tweakin’ and geekin’ and we should be able to defend our division crown in 2025…

we got outplayed last night by a team that was 13-4 after we beat them in week 1…

    they’re a pretty good football team…

so are we….but we need to re-stack the D

  63. adam from ny Says:

i heard jayden daniels is just an AI figure…

and he is operated by a small drone that flies over stadiums

  64. RBUC Says:

The average Buc fan acts like they are a LONG suffering fan base!!!!!!! ITS COMICAL more accurately it’s DELUSIONAL

  65. D-Rome Says:

Everyone pegged us at 10 wins or less before the season and now Bowles is a bad guy for taking us there.

First year we have real $ to spend on FAs in the Bowles era. Lets see what they do with it. Need to figure out LB as quickly as possible.

    Exactly right, JoeSea.

Most people commenting need to get real. This was not a Super Bowl team and most of you shatting on Bowles didn’t think the Bucs were going to win the division or make the playoffs anyways. Besides, no one is actually saying who the Bucs should hire to replace Bowles. Who’s better that’s available? Trading for a coach to get us over the hump would be dumb because this is not a Super Bowl roster.

The Bucs were without Godwin, Whitehead, Dennis, Izien, and Dean was injured last night during the game. Most of you thought the season was over when Evans and Godwin were out. Losing Dennis earlier in the season was huge. Losing Dean last night was huge.

Bad organizations have knee jerk reactions to their staff and it rarely pays off. The Bucs are no longer a bad organization. Running Bowles would be stupid and accomplishes nothing.

  66. Couch Fan Says:

Whats comical is defending a mediocre coach. But I understand some of you just love that mediocrity.

  67. Pewter Power Says:

Bowles definitely had the Bucs ready for the offseason

  68. D-Rome Says:

It’s gotta be a hard life for the people who want Bowles gone.

Because it’s not gonna happen…. For years… get use to it

You’re exactly right. One more winning season and only Bruce Arians will have a better win percentage than Todd Bowles.

Face it folks, if Bowles keeps having success he WILL be in the Ring of Honor one day.

  69. Chris Says:

Guess the fans are not important enough. We will not win the division next year or make playoffs it will be a 8-9 season

  70. Shane247 Says:

The clock is ticking! Every NFL team has a window & ours will soon be closing as contracts will expire & players will retire. You don’t just go find another Evans, Godwin, Vea, David or even a Mayfield. It takes time, several drafts and extreme luck in free agency to find players of this caliber. Right now we are looking at the best offense the Buccaneers have ever had. I would hate to think that we waste this opportunity. IMHO, we either bring in a DC, fire Bowles & promote Coen or we waste the very real opportunity this team has.

Bowles is NOT the answer! For 5yrs we’ve watched this defense, hoping it would get better & it hasn’t! It isn’t just the players, it’s the schemes. Who drops OLBs & D linemen into coverage? Why is there always miscommunication & players out of position? Why the soft a$$ zones when we clearly don’t understand or can’t execute them? How do you expect to win when you’re playing not to lose?

  71. ElioT Says:

The Bucs won’t get better in 2025.

Offense played out of their minds for most of this season and it will be hard to replicate that, especially if Coen leaves.

Defense needs a complete remodel from the frame up which is going to take more than one offseason.

Division getting better the play of Young & Penix.

Todd Bowels has had the luxury of being in the worst division for 3 years and is 27-24 in the reg and 1-3 in the playoffs.

    Future looks grim.

  72. Jack Sparrow Says:

that means we get the same result for next year. One and done !

  73. Mike Pound Says:

Bowles regular season record with the Bucs is 27-24. And that includes playing in the most pathetic division in the NFL and being able to count on 5-6 wins every year from those teams. And this year he couldn’t even do that. It’s beyond me why this guy keeps his job.

  74. Couch Fan Says:

Apparently there are quite a few who just love the division titles followed by the 1 and done playoff trips. They are just so exciting. Almost as exciting as watching Bowles standing clueless on the sidelines.

  75. Josh Says:

Screw this Franchose I’m out good luck you all down there in Florida apparently it’s cool to be losers…

  76. Buc You Says:

4 OCs in 4 years is not exactly stable.

  77. Rjscheapseats Says:

“Stop watching football if you pin the blame on Baker. The D had no punts, no turnovers and we could not stop them.”

Dude they stopped the Commanders on a 1st and goal from the 1.

If you don’t think that fumble changed the game you are an idiot.

“For 5yrs we’ve watched this defense, hoping it would get better & it hasn’t!”
He won the damn Super Bowl. This team is missing key players from that run, but this is just utter nonsense.

  78. Mike Johnson Says:

FIX THE DEFENSE BOWLES. I thought Defense was your specialty. You get a D grade average for your Defense this season. Your Defense failed us. How about hiring a DC? He can’t be any worse than you.

  79. Couch Fan Says:

He wasnt the HC during the Super Bowl, but that was however the last time our defense was consistently good. 4 fricken years ago….

  80. DBS Says:

    So long.Josh!

  81. Upstate NY BUC Says:

There is no humanly way Licht and upper management do not see the gashing holes in the middle of the field all year!!! not a thing done about it!! Who was this receiver Brown guy gashing the Defense over the middle all damn night, no adjustments. Hire Saleh immediately or Bowles should not come back. Im out, Go Bucs!!!

  82. DBS Says:

Gee Couch what players were on the team back then?

  83. ElioT Says:

Todd’s record as a HC sucks.

  84. Couch Fan Says:

It doesnt matter. Bowles has had 4 years to fix the defense. He hasent. He has failed to develop the younger players that him/Licht drafted.

You can give all the excuses you want but it doesnt change the facts. Giving him more time after he has already shown he cant develop them is stupid. So now I guess we have to wait until he gets lucky enough to draft some great players who dont need any development so yall can say Bowles is soooooo great!

  85. Shane247 Says:

A .500 coach, is that what you want? Will that win you a Superbowl? I mean that is the goal here correct?!

  86. JohnJohn007 Says:

There will be No difference next season because this HC.

He just got out coach at home!
He played exactly the way the Washington coaches told his players,he would.
He told his team all the need to do is stop the Buccaneers rushing attack and keep Mayfield in the pocket and they will win.

The Buccaneers coaches was given a gift how to win at the end of the first half win Mayfield just took off and ran.
Mayfield second read on passing plays should been him running ( Washington had no defense for that because they was bringing so much up front pressure).
To open up the running game they should of used short pass to one of the RB instead handing it off,or fake it and Mayfield runs.
Washington took the Buccaneers TE out of the game because he was needed for protection.

Buccaneers defense is good enough and too easy to take apart if there is no pressure on your QB.
Live and die with the blitz.
It would of been a very good coaching move if the Buccaneers didn’t blitz as much this game because that would of been a unexpected surprise to Washington and a Rookie QB most likely would have problems.

Nothing will change with this HC leading the team next year.
Bite the bullet now and do the change now or be in the same situation next year again.
    Just almost good.

  87. Simeon4HOF Says:

Glazers prepare to lose some fans

  88. Josh Says:

It’s hard to watch the product on the field and see how he coaches and feel positive about it. He seems like a nice guy, and I’m sure I’d enjoy having a beer and BBQ with him, but he’s not effective as a coach or leader of a football team. Sadly, I’m probably done with the NFL at this point. Between the questionable calls by referees all season, and even last night’s fumble that wasn’t blown dead (forward progress wasn’t stopped; they just didn’t want to call it a fumble it clearly was), it’s frustrating. The refs often seem to influence the outcome, with small calls or non-calls—like the lack of holding penalties on Washington all night look back at Atlanta etc—making it clear that the NFL has an agenda. While it’s possible to overcome these challenges, it requires perfect football. Under Bowles as a coach, it’s hard to feel optimistic. It’s a struggle just to play with any sense of direction with him as the head coach players always seem lost and confused…

So, with the combination of biased officiating and Bowles’ coaching, I think in 2025, I’ll just go fishing. Peace out, everyone—don’t expect to see me posting for a long time… unless Todd “Toilet” Bowles is fired. Until he is Good Luck! God Bless! Hope I’m served some humble pie and Viwles wins a Super Bowl i doubt it but I’m still a Bucs fan until the day I die If I suffered through Sabby Piscitelli I think I’ll make it… HOPEFULLY!!!

  89. Buchen61 Says:

Joe says: ‘If you don’t like it, call Bucs headquarters or change your buying habits.’

Finally you say something I can agree with… Id sell what I have but who wants it… Im out

  90. MelvinJunior Says:

If they are really, THAT ‘serious’ about everything Todd Bowles, why don’t they just go ahead, & EXTEND HIM another 4-5 YEARS then!? I don’t have a huge issue with allowing him another season, as long as they don’t LOSE Cohen. Though, all bets are OFF if it looks like they are going to. And, after another season of more of the same. Eventually, they are going to have to make a BOLD move in order to get over the proverbial HUMP. Bowles has NOT done anything ‘special’ with this team whatsoever, at ALL. Nothing Spectacular. Nothing Awful. Nothing Extra. It is what it is. He is what HE IS. And, they are ‘who’ they are… ALL, exactly who and what we all thought they were. A great ‘culture’ – Yes, but Bowles is not the only reason for that. So, for next season I don’t expect any difference. Except for the ‘expectations’ should be VERY HIGH… As being as ‘high’ as they get. Excellence.

  91. Simeon4HOF Says:

Bowles fate should be decided by how Washington fares. If they get beat in Detroit, he should get fired. If they win the NFC, fine, we had a sneaky good first round opponent that other contenders couldn’t solve either.

  94. Pmike Says:

lol some of you are so butt hurt. It’s a football game move on with your life

  95. Jeagan1999 Says:

It was a hell of a year!! Great job, Bucs!!

    Baker IS our franchise QB!!!
Bucky Irving IS our cowbell RB!
Mike Evans and Jalem McMillian ARE a formidable team are WR!!
Cade Otton, Payne Durham and Devin Culp are studs at TE!!
    Our O-Line is strong!!
Liam Cohen is a hell of a play-caller!!

Now, let’s work on boosting our Defense, signing some good free agents, and creating another excellent draft class!

    SUPER-BOWL NEXT YEAR!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  96. Durango 95 Says:

Maybe I have a false impression while being caught up in the emotion of the game, but it sure seemed like the defense gave up drives of 70+ yards, three or four times last night. What I do know for sure is the game was tied at 20 points with about 4:41 left to play and Daniels led his team 51 yards on 10 plays to kick the game winning field goal. Same old garbage defense. Unfortunately, what is worse is that w/ Bowles it will not get any better. Stable mediocrity is not a goal of a winning franchise.

  97. BallHawk75 Says:

    @D-Rome said:

“You’re exactly right. One more winning season and only Bruce Arians will have a better win percentage than Todd Bowles.

Face it folks, if Bowles keeps having success he WILL be in the Ring of Honor one day.”

Ring of Honor? For what exactly? Failing miserably when it matters most?

The acceptance of Bowles inept decision making by some on here is quite shocking.

Yes, Bowles is going nowhere. That has been clearly established.

This organization will go where he goes.

    Nowhere

  98. Pewter Power Says:

Bowles has been here since 2019 stop asking him to fix the defense. Pass defense has always been bad you just didn’t realize it because all the sacks Shaq was getting. When the sacks stopped from shaq is when people noticed.

  99. Ds Says:

Just need a defense we don’t have the horses on defense

  100. VOT Says:

We should spend every draft pick and all FA money on defense – we need so much help on that side of the ball

An upgrade on Bredeson at LG, maybe the Klein draft pick is slated there and resign Godwin

CB, DE/OLB, ILB, DT, SS all need shoring up

Time to move on from Hall, JTS, Britt, Russell, Gholdson, Nelson at least

We need about 7 or8 new players on D and hope LVD plays one last year

Six years as the Dc and3 as HC and this is our D

How is this progress? We fired Dungy and Gruden for less…

  101. LVMYBUCS Says:

ALL HOME TEAM GAMES WON BY THE HOME TEAM YESTERDAY EXCEPT THE STUPID TODD BOWLS LEAD BUCS! He will never get us to the promise land

  102. Godlovesbucs Says:

I would like him to bring in a play caller on d.

It seems that he is trying to do too much and it is affecting him.

Focus only on game management and large decisions, allow coordinators to coordinate.

I would love an upgrade at HC. But the reality is, with Todd we are competitive in almost every game (including the ones we should win easily). There are a lot of teams that have moved on from this type of coach only to get a MUCH worse coach.

I will also say his , and specifically secondary was injured all year, and he calls a different game when he has backups in.

  103. Armybucsfan Says:

Bowles has showed us time and time again that he has no balls and has made castrated coaching decisions. Instead of going for it on fourth down like Washington did time and time again our incompetent coach played it safe. What did Dan Quinn do???? He converted nearly 75% of there 4th down plays. Now that’s a coach with balls. His team wanted it more and put everything on the line to win. THATS WHAT A COACH IS SUPPOSE TO DO!!!! If we lost because we went for it on forth down I wouldn’t be as upset as watching us play it safe and lose by 3. This has been a common occurrence in the den of depression. Now ask yourself Bucs fans. How many games did we loose by less than a TD since Todd Bowles has been HC?

  104. Davenport Says:

I’ve followed this team since 1976 so I have lived through constant disappointment with a few highlight years.

Retaining Bowles stands as a commitment to mediocrity and its beyond disappointing that Licht and the Glazers aren’t doing all they can to chase Super Bowls.

When a coach with a career record of failure is retained, how can anyone believe that the organization is pursuing excellence?

At best, 2025 will be a repeat of this year – and another wasted opportunity.

  105. RBUC Says:

Funny how based on the talent on the team Vegas sets the O/U of wins for the Buccaneers, before the season starts, at 6.5 but the fan base wants to tar and feather the coach( others in the organization excluded like the GM) if this collection of talent doesn’t make it AT LEAST to the NFC Championship Game!!!
I’m trying to be fair cause REALISTICALLY if they didn’t go to and win the Superbowl I feel confident I could go to JoeBucFan and find SEVERAL statements of how Bowles needed to be fired IMMEDIATELY for not winning that Superbowl!!
When I describe this fan base with words like COMICAL more like DELUSIONAL it’s probably off base!!! Hmmmmmmm OK

  106. Calogero Says:

When the Commanders were in field goal range, it was obvious that they were going to use up the clock and then kick the field goal for the win. The SMART thing to have done is to let them get the touchdown and then use up the rest of the time trying to tie the game with a touchdown. Their way, they had no chance.

  107. MattSpy05 Says:

    just here for the comments

  108. MelvinJunior Says:

You don’t LOSE that game at HOME as ‘favorites’ – You just CANNOT. Period. End of Story. You ‘lock-in’ Cohen (as HC ‘in-waiting’), & then you are VERY clear with Todd… You have ‘ONE-Year’ left to get this right. Give him everything he needs (sign/trade for a true game changer at EDGE and 90% all defense draft), then after another season of just ‘treading water’ you hand the keys over to Cohen, & send Todd upstairs, into an advisory roll.

  109. Faspro Says:

Dan Quinn> Todd Bowles, bottom line…

  110. RBUC Says:

What has Dan Quinn won???? He has been FIRED at every stop

  111. dbbuc711 Says:

The Glazers need to tell Licht and Bowles that they must hire a true defensive coordinator.

  112. John Mason Says:

Jason Light sounds like Joe Biden…Everything is fine…as things are falling apart all around him….I knew this game would end up this way..you can smell it…same crappy defense for 3 years now…and getting worse…Bucs never get a turnover…never a pick…because the receivers are so wide open…soft zone all game….Wash did not even have to punt…never a 3 and out…and Bowels trusted this defense to get a stop at the end of the game….he should have just gone for it instead of the FG….I think most Buc fans would have understood that call..Bowels will not fire any defensive assistants because they are long time friends …so nothing will change…Light better get his ass in gear and find some DB’s….get rid of Dean…he

  113. Ds Says:

Buy a defense and no primetime games

  114. MelvinJunior Says:

Ya know, with a buncha DUDES named Evans. Godwin. Wirfs. David. Vea. JUNIOR. And, BAKER together, all on the same TEAM… It would prob be awfully HARD to have a “Bad Culture.” True Story. I mean, if that’s ALL that you can say (“great culture”), then just maybe, it is time to sit back and re-evaluate EVERYTHING.

  115. BucU Says:

Shytty coach and soft players = Another embarrassing home loss on national TV.
Thank God this charade is over.

  116. BallHawk75 Says:

Dan Quinn won a road playoff game with a rookie QB against a defensive guru in primetime in front of a national audience.

Todd Bowles lone playoff victory was vs an Eagles team that had given up weeks prior and almost fired the HC over it. And it was a home game.

Then they went on the road against a good team and Todd did his thing.

    He lost. As always.

  117. Lokog Says:

Ill be watching on pie rated tv

  118. Alanbucsfan Says:

You are all underestimating how well Jayden Daniels played-
0 turnovers, 0 punts, only 1 sack ( run out of bounds by David for 2 yd loss),
    Excellent throws-
Bucs needed to play mistake free and they didn’t , unfortunately.

  119. El HEFE Says:

It’s either be a fan and support Todd Bowles or go suck on an egg personally I’m a Bucs fan through and through and I understood that Todd Bowles didn’t have everybody healthy this year if we have a healthy roster next year and he’s still doing mediocre fire him

  120. Chris Says:

Licht needs to be fired too if this is his answer

  121. Todd Bowls Says:

If Jason Licht is going to keep Todd Bowles as head coach, Licht either needs to hire another coach to manage timeouts or do it himself.

Todd Bowles has proven time and time again that he cannot be trusted to manage the clock. The issue reared its head again on Sunday.

I am not saying that we could have tied the game if Todd hadn’t wasted so much time, but with Baker’s big arm, the speed of Trey Palmer and Rashard White, plus McLaughlin’s long-range and big leg, the Bucs might have had a chance to tie the game and go into overtime.

Todd’s continued clock mis-management takes away any chance for a hail Mary.

    https://nypost.com/2025/01/13/sports/todd-bowles-had-bizarre-timeout-strategy-in-buccaneers-playoff-bust/

Stupidity is doing the same thing over and over again. Todd has many good qualities as a defensive coach, but he is truly inept at clock management. This important task needs to be assigned to someone else who can handle it
    effectively.

  122. Matt Says:

Wanting Bowles gone is not just about the poor defense. You can argue the personnel on D isn’t his fault.

Bowles has 100% control over in game decisions.

When to go for it on 4th.

    When to turtle.

    When to call TOs.

He has proven to be the WORST in the league with those decisions. He 100% controls them.

Every game the other coach will likely make 3-5 optimal decisions. Todd will make 3-5 suboptimal.

That’s going to be worth 10 points some games. Why would we want to be handicapped?

  123. Xristos Says:

Look I m not going to argue about what we see on Defense the last 2 seasons which is atrocious. Soft coverage, soft play, passive mentality. We have said it many times. When you are a defensive coach it is unacceptable to has this kind of defense, bottom 5.
    Put that aside.
The issue is Coach Bowles has shown time after time, game after game that he cant manage the game situations in the last mimutes and he definitely dont know how to manage the clock. He is a HC 6 years now, 3 with us. He continues to make the same mistakes and he never learns.
Calling timeouts when you must let the clock run and allowing opponents to have time in the last 2 minutes.
Not calling timeouts and let the clock run when you need time.
Not calling timeouts on defense and let the clock run to save time for the offense.
We have seen it so many times. We saw it yesterday too. Yes we scored the TD in the end of the 1st half but the 13 seconds that we waste was a mistake nevertheless.
You cant be a HC 6 years and so many years in the NFL and dont know how to use the clock and the timeouts. Its ririculous.
After the Dallas game and his press conference it is evident that he will not change because he doesnt even think that he made a mistake calling a timeout and letting Dallas with 50 seconds. He said we needed a timeout. Yes Coach if you think the team needs a timeout call it but how about a crazy idea, let the clock run for 20 seconds and call it then.
He has shown that he will not change.
    We can talk about scheme
    We can talk about injuries
We can talk about whatever you want
But he has shown that he is inadequate as a HC in clock/game management situations. He has shown that he will not change because he does not think he is wrong.

  124. Nick jannette Says:

Vbowles is doing a good job 3 straight division titles

  125. Matt Says:

We don’t need Bowles to hire a DC. We need better players in the secondary.

What we need is Bowles to hire an in game decision maker. Something that overrides Bowles and says “now we need to call TO” “now we need to go for it on 4th”. That is what Bowles sucks at.

His D calls are outdated but not terrible. He is fine as DC. He cannot be trusted to make game flow decisions

  126. Matt Says:

The reality is if we went for it on both fourth downs we almost definitely win the game.

  127. Tbbucs3 Says:

We have the worst fan base in sports

  128. Tbbucs3 Says:

Fan base is literally throwing feces around, like Joe says

Some of yall need to act like you’ve lost before. Unless your bandwagon Brady Bucs fans (many are) then you shouldnt be throwing a temper tantrum. Smh 🤦

  129. RBUC Says:

    @Tbbucs3
One of the truest statements I’ve read on this site!! I 2nd that

  130. Tye Says:

    Its a Bucs life!

To celebrate a losing HC while teams around them strive to get better and work towards becoming winners…. Another mediocre season 2025…

  131. JustVisiting Says:

Generally speaking, the offense was strong this season and the defense struggled. It’s not the whole team that’s at issue, so don’t fire the HC: hire a DC.

  132. Roy Says:

Can’t always blame the coach. Bucs defense got stung by Redskins offense. It’s the players. Defense was subject last week against Saints. Bucs barely beat a depleted Saints. I knew a running QB was going to torch Bucs defense…It is what it is. Bucs coach seem scared to go for it on 4th down. Washington coach never even thought about it…Baker is not the blame. Bucs should have never been in the position they was in. TAKE the lost like men..

  133. Conte Piscatelli Says:

If they want to keep Bowles, fine I get it. Unless a premier choice falls in your lap, he has won 3 straight divisions. I would ask him to give up defensive play calling though. I think the league has a read on what Bowles is s as a defensive coordinator. The defense needs new life and a different voice.

  134. Couch Fan Says:

Yea everybody has to learn how to be a good loser like Tbbucs3

  135. Tbbucs3 Says:

    Agree, Couch Fan.

  136. MadMax Says:

    all good…we’ll get by

and to the draft we go…need some pieces on D, DB and LB and CB

im on it Jason…just get Emmanwori to start off, a hybrid Safety/LB

  137. Ol' Boy Says:

    Apathy

  138. Roy Says:

If Bucs coach would have some fire in him his players would play better. Just standing shaking his head looking crazy ain’t getting the job done… Maybe he losing his ability to call defensive plays. Baker blessed he not in the hospital running the way he be running. Sooner or later Baker will get hurt trying to do to much. Offensive line need to be addressed. The back end need to be addressed. Washington defense played better than I thought they would.. Whoever called the trick play need to be better. A whole team lost is what the game was.. Good luck next season Bucs

  139. Darren caputo Says:

    Let bowles go.

  140. shane Says:

I’m just tired of people on here saying that Bowle’s defensive coaching style is not the problem! Sorry…but that is the problem! Ok…let Licht keep Bowles as the head coach, keep Liam Coen, if he doesn’t jump ship, and hire someone like Robert Saleh for the defensive coach. I think Bowles would be the ideal coach as a figure head for the organization; he’s articulate, funny, and genuine person, but let’s get someone fiery in here that can coach defense with a passion. I’m not the only one saying this on here, but if the Bucs don’t get another coach for the defense, then I’m really through watching this team anyone. Licht: if you want to continue this “culture” thing then listen to fans like me & get a damn fiery defensive coach.

  141. Jackson Says:

The NFC South is going to be harder to win next year. You can clearly see the Panthers playing better late in the year. With that said however, Bowles being the head coach you have to be on one side of the fence or the other. Enjoy winning games, but also the heartache of losing their fare share. 10-7, 9-8, 8-9 seems to be the sweet spot with Bowles. Win the division occasionally, make the play-offs, but quickly be eliminated. Or on the other-side, do not accept mediocrity. Get a new head coach that can raise the ceiling to NFC Championship, and SuperBowl.

2022- 8-9, Lost Wildcard to Cowboys
2023- 9-8, Lost in Divisional Round to the Lions
2024- 10-7, Lost Wildcard to Washington
Not to mention the dreadful mid season losing streaks Bowles teams suffer each year.

  142. Roy Says:

Winning the division in the NFC South is nothing. Worst division in the NFL. Falcons gave the Bucs the division. Ray Charles can see that

  143. ocala Says:

The Bucs defense did not force a punt, or a turnover and Baker had the highest passer rating in playoff history for a team that lost, but some lunatics think the offense is to blame…

Bowles is not a good head coach, but the Bucs have a very talented roster. If he remains the head coach the Bucs will continue to have a bad defense.

  144. The Smokey GO Bucs!!! Says:

I think we just need an actual def coordinator so Bowles can be the head coach get any one in here to fix the def. And Todd can just be a head coach that job alone is hard enough offer Belacheat some cash to be a def coordinator he still has defensive chops just can’t coach an offense or draft worth a crap.

  145. MCWAY Says:

Must….get….Miles Garrett from Cleveland. Enough with this blitz-happy stuff. REMEBER SB 55: Front four got to Mahomes, who ran nearly 500 yards sideways and backwards. Safeties and corners shut receivers down; LBs took care of tight ends. GAME OVER!!

  146. ocala Says:

Getting better players on defense will only have slightly better results…. the problem is the head coach and his scheme.

  147. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I have been skeptical of Bowles in the past…I certainly did not like being lied to about a quarterback competition…but…

…he had his sights on Mayfield and it paid off.

Baker Mayfield showed he could be great if they surrounded him with the right people. That took priority and so the last 2 off seasons were focused on offense.

As a result, the defense suffered a little. We got a couple good players, but not enough. We knew it was going to mean Defense would take a step back.

Now that the defense can be addressed, I’m very confident that Bowles can make this a multi-championship team going forward (not counting our previous rings).

Years ago, Bill Belichick had to build around Tom Brady. Then he had to rebuild his defense. He had a good OC to run the offense.

Todd Bowles is sort of following the same path.

We are in a currently weak division…and yes, that has resulted in a weak schedule. But that’s okay…it allowed us to win while rebuilding.

Bowles made this team division champions 4 years in a row…while having cap issues.

I know…a lot of people say his defense sucks. That’s simply not true. His defensive players kept getting injured. Not an excuse, just fact.

So I want him to have at least another year to see what happens when the defense is addressed in the off season.

Coen won’t be leaving also. Heck, they may not even need to give him much of a raise.

  148. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    ocala Says:
“Getting better players on defense will only have slightly better results…”

    I respectfully disagree.

  149. JA Says:

This sums it up, at least in my mind …
Was there any doubt among anyone who regularly watches this team that, after we tied it at 20, that Washington wouldn’t easily march down the field for points?? Yes, we could’ve hoped they scored quick enough to give our offense another chance, but we all knew that too was a long shot.
Is this the kind of defense we want to see going forward? This inability to stop opponents in crucial situations will get you nowhere in any playoff game, especially since we all knew it was gonna happen because it happened all year long!!

  150. stpetebucsfan Says:

“but someone else needs to start calling timeouts!”

That’s been a common theme today. Does anybody know for sure on the last SUCCESSFUL drive where they clearly wasted ten seconds whether that is on Bowles or Coen? The sideline shot featured an expression of Bowles as peoed as I’ve ever seen him on the sideline.

It’s the O’s job to score. I think Todd has given Coen a lot of freedom this year.
I think he assumed Coen would call the timeouts on the OFFENSIVE drive.

Now the REALITY check. Bakers run where he went through 3 defenders including Bobby Wagner was a thing of beauty. The unforced fumble in the red zone was clearly the difference in the game. Spit happens!

Playoff football, turnovers are alway deadly, in the red zone they are frequently, as in last night the difference in the game.

As Buc fans we are disappointed with the loss I get that. Yes it was a winnable game, they all are! It was played between two very evenly matched teams featuring two Heisman Trophy winning QBs at the top of their games, save for ONE mistake! Both D’s played their hearts out.

IF Baker doesn’t fumble and the Bucs ended up winning that game what would Quinn’s decisions looked like then. BTW I’m a fan of Quinn just sayin sometimes you get the Bear, sometimes the bear gets you!

I have seen NO Quit in BOWLes 3 teams!!! It’s not like Chucky where he clearly lost his players or Tony who simply refused to change. Todd have evolved.

It’s said you can’t control everything around you only your reaction to it.

So yeah we’re all DISAPPOINTED but we can also take pride in the way this team played!! The Bucs simply need a superstar cover guy to put beside McCollum who still amazes me out of the 5th round! They need at least one and depending on LVD two ILB’s!!! After that it’s about depth.

I like Quinn, I like the Commanders except for mouth of the south Lattimore, I’ll be rooting for the Commanders to win it all. Long shot but I’ll still root.

  151. Hodad Says:

Living on the east coast I go to one game a year. This season it was the 49er game. When the Bucs settled for the tying FG that game my son, and I turned to each other saying that’s the ball game. We knew the 9ers would drive down, and win the game. Last night with 4:41 left on the clock Todd settled for the tying FG again. My son texted me they’re going to drive down, and win the game leaving us no time. I texted back, yup. I won’t be going to any games next season, because now I know it will be the same story. I’ll watch on T.V., but I’m not wasting money on tickets till we have a new H.C.. Licht, and company are O.K. with five home losses, 5 prime time losses, two OT losses where our offense never saw the ball, I’m not O.K. with it. The Glazers said they wanted to see progress. We won one more game, but didn’t win our home playoff game. Last year we ended the season 10-9, this season 10-8. Some progress. I’ll say it now. We won’t win the division next season, and Bowles will be let go a year to late.

  152. JohnJohn007 Says:

I would bring in a mental coach to help prepare the team for each game.
The good ones( Yogi or Martial Arts Master) would be mostly watching but would know instantly who needs help.
It happens week before the game but if needed during the game,it is normally just something un- noticed to the untrained eye.

  155. D-Rome Says:

Ring of Honor? For what exactly? Failing miserably when it matters most?

    Ballhawk75,

Uhhhhhh, how about being a defensive coordinator for the Bucs 2020 Super Bowl win. If that was enough to get Monte Kiffin into the Ring of Honor it’ll be more than enough to get Todd Bowles in there, especially if the Bucs win another division title next season.

Like I said, if he does that he’ll be the 2nd most successful head coach in the history of the Bucs organization next to Bruce Arians.

You’re mad the Bucs lost. We all are, but yesterday’s loss wasn’t a coaching issue. If it was then look at Liam Coen for calling a game that under performed. If you look at things objectively then there is no reason to move on from Todd Bowles.

Only loser franchises make coaching decisions like that. The Bucs are no longer a loser franchise.

  156. Bucsfan81 Says:

Great another year of watching Bowles no balls get out coached on a weekly basis only to win a handful of games and get into the playoffs if he Is lucky and then to get eliminated. I be you all can’t wait to watch that for another 18 plus games.

  157. Jeff Says:

Todd needs new defensive assistants. The clowns he has now have lead to 5 years of defensive miscommunications.

  158. Esteban85 Says:

I love seeing comments like “the defense can’t get off the field!” Or “this is the best we can expect from a Todd Bowles team!” Well the defense did get off the field on fourth and goal and gave the offense the ball back. They promptly fumbled at the 15 and gave the redskins the game. This is peak Todd Bowles? Well we did better in the playoffs last season, which was thought to be a rebuilding year. Wouldn’t that be more of a peak than this year?

  159. larrd Says:

You’re either getting better or getting worse. I think they were better this year than last, with Bucky and the new OC. One more year for Bowles but get rid of him next January if they aren’t better than this year.

  160. Anthony Says:

The offense was a let down.

  161. Esteban85 Says:

This loss hurts and stings and sucks but Todd’s defense did its job. If we don’t fumble that ball and drive down the field for a TD the time of possession doesn’t look so lopsided and the play total doesn’t look so lopsided the score would’ve been different and the skins would’ve had to drive the field for a TD with the clock ticking. It was a turning point in the game, period. Like it or not the time was condensed meaning mistakes would be magnified. We made mistakes and they did not. Clock management was fine, it worked out for us. Should we have gone for it on fourth and 3? I think so but Todd’s explanation was that we were going to until we screwed up on second and third down. Also not Todd’s fault. He is the scapegoat, and I get it, he’s too conservative, but we are a team on the rise and we will be back to face the redskins in the future playoffs. Chill out Tampa Bay and enjoy the fact that we have a relevant team. There is more to life than football. Find yourselves some Jesus

For those saying keep Bowles but make him hire a DC – then what’s the point of keeping Bowles at all? What HC traits does he possess? He doesn’t have a personality that’s conducive to being a motivator. He’s terrible with clock management. He doesn’t talk to players during the games. He has nothing to do with the offense. He has awful media relations skills.

If he’s just the HC, what does he bring to the table?

Name a time you have ever seen Coen call a timeout. I know I can’t. Looks like you’re trying to build an argument on speculation. Why would a competent HC rely on a belief that he “assumed” someone else would cover what he is ultimately responsible for? (No disrespect intended toward you.)

i hope the ownership isnt happy with the moderate / mediocre outcome of this season in spite of the vast improvement of the running game and offense and forces at least a new DC in to the mix…..

i also hope we dont waste a draft pick on a punter…..time will tell….

after sitting through the dark years i am always happy to make the playoffs. i always will be.

that said, there is an obvious role where the ownership team needs to “cleanup a few things” as our glorious guru todd likes to say….he can stay as HC but please please please get some fresh blood and thinking into the DC role.

  167. adam from ny Says:

i think the offense is fairly dialed at this point…(except last night)…so if coen stays we should be good…

i say you give coach another year, and reload the D…and see what he can do with it…

we should hopefully win the division next year again, baring major injury setbacks, and the rookie class should no longer be moving like rooks by the time the playoffs roll around…

so you give coach another year with a retooled D – and see what he delivers – if he flops out, it’s on him…you have vita and tristan block the entry point to one buc like a couple of bouncers demanding id

  168. Peter Says:

Coach did not lose the game
    Baker did
The fact that people minimize the fumble which was after a ref zone stand
They got a td of it
Change the outcome definitely made the defense play more snaps
Stupid offensive play call it’s all on Baker

  169. Max Mitch Says:

    Winning Playoff Teams:

    Go for it on 4th and 2 and would never just take the 3 points;
    Protect the ball at all costs but especially in your own territory;
Capitalize on good drives and don’t make snap mistakes with the game on the line (we’ve had center problems toward the end of the season)
    Call timeouts at the appropriate time;

Baker is a beast and he’s allowed to make a mistake and honestly, he could have erased it on that botched snap drive – defense basically put us in a position to win last night, they held on the goalline for 4 downs and gave us the ball back and we could’ve won the game. I’ve yelled about them this season but they did their job last night. Wash is good, we have injuries on D but our guys showed up and gave us a chance.

  170. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

He’s sorta Marvin Lewis 2.0, circa Bengals in the 2010’s era. Good enough HC to win (weak) division titles and keep his job but not good enough to advance in the postseason (which inevitably gets even a HC fired at some point). To Todd’s credit he did get one playoff win, so he’s done more than Lewis did. I guess see what he can do next year without the lean saiary cap situation, and if he misses the playoffs or the Bucs get bounced early in the post season let him go (Glazers only eat one year of the HC contract).

  171. K Says:

Well it was fun while it lasted. Here comes the next forgotten era. We can only expect the other 3 organizations in our division to be inept for so long. Our defense and game management has been our weakness for the last 5 years and will continue to be so until Bowles is gone. No words for players after a tough loss because “what can you say?”. This sucks. The scheme is predictable and has holes everywhere regardless of starters playing or not.

  172. JD Still Says:

Let’s do quick review of where We stand , I see no fault with the efforts of the team, they played hard , made a few mistakes , but that’s to be expected , every one and every team makes mistakes , but, there comes a time when you have to come to the realization that , for whatever reason, the “ mistakes” made by some are not going to get any better, Coach Bowels , has a career long ,sub.500 , losing record , both regular season and playoffs, his game and player utilization, ,management and development have raised some major questions. Baker Mayfield, he is well liked and plays hard, but, he too has a career long , sub.500, win record with multiple teams, since being at Tampa the last two years, playing with personnel that just won a SuperBowl, the results have been disappointing, Yes , he has thrown for a lot of yards and many Touchdowns and his runs are exciting, but , he has also led the entire NFL in turnovers both years he has started , the Bucs fans overlook this but not the league, there is a reason he was not chosen for the Pro Bowl . So, when you compare what we have done the last two years with what improvements other teams such as Houston and Washington have accomplished , with players of similar abilities , the problems become obvious.

  173. Buc king Says:

Ok lots of hot takes here from you guys…
Here’s my 2 cents which you could see more details on the podcast course correction.
1 baker had shrunk and mistake prone in big moments.
The bucs play call on offense was suspect most of the first half and they did not take advantage if the over aggressive approach Washington shield and they didn’t do a good job of distribution to weapons.
The baker fumble was the worst play of the game by far and the most harmful because it essentially gave them a td.
The inability of the defense to stop a vanilla offense (college style run option) is completely comical and the fact they went for it on every 4th down showed they wanted it more.
Now the refs did us no favor..I saw more holding then life insurance call center be the commanders.
They held back on using the flags on them but sure found their use of throwing them on us. I’m sure the gangsters in Vegas cooked them books fir a nice pay out since we was the favorites and bought those refs.
I felt the refs were calling the game extremely poor and that is what it is for that…
Now the defense secondary other then 2 players looked raggity and not good all year long. People keep saying we need linebackers.
No we need corners because Dean should be given his walking paper’s or traded hes not the solution or worth the money.
We need a hawk a safety and hawk at cb.
Also without question we need 2 defensive ends.
It’s time to rebuild the d line only the dts are serviceable.
We have to win on some free agency puck or a nice trade.
Tryon needs to leave… de cbs and safety..depending on if David calls it or not which I hope he stays another year.. then we will need another linebacker..Britt is not it but he’s a good depth guy..you can’t gave superstars at every spot but we talent at those spots.
Now to what this article is subjected on..Todd Bowles…

For me it’s simple..fire him..no more ..no mas.
He is bit the cure no the key to this team growth.
Him allowing Mike evans and Godwin to get injured in a garbage time gane still leaves the worst taste in my mouth.
I think we need a coach with more fire and leadership skills.
I don’t have a list of coaches to name off yet but if I was Jason I be shopping right now for a special defensive coordinator and forcing him on Bowles or talking to Coen about how ready he feels to be a head coach.
I guarantee you theirs about 25 defensive coaches that would be a fit for the role and fix our secondary and inability to create turn overs ever.
Let’s be honest this defense is atrocious nothing can change my mind.
I’m okay with anyone being moved accept for David or vea.
The rest are all pieces to build with or trade.

Todd is the head coach so he gets the overall credit of are success but hrs the d coordinator of arguably top worst defense in the nfl.
We have no defensive identity other then we like to blitz and not get to the qb.
We need someone like parsons from the cowboys to unleash at a qb our team doesn’t have that or jj watt type of player..
That’s what we lack the most a game changer to apply pressure and create mistakes..any qb has all day to read the holes in our secondary..
Dean had no business playing that was on coaches..
Winfield did nothing all year..gotta get him back to being worth his money. .
It’s time for Bowles to go coach college or work on his fishing skills.
We need a young hungry d cord that will push more out of the defense.
Everyone on thar side of coaching needs to be handed a box and walked yo the front door of one buc place they failed us buccaneer fans and deserve to walk the plank.
I really wish Jason would see this..its the time to make the switch the offense will only get better with young players growth and one more really good offense lineman and a great tight end to pair with Olson.
This should be a single back offense..2 te set 3 wr and back…
This will optimize the run game and rake more advantage of bakers want to throw short.
You then have I assume Godwin back n healthy McMillian and evans..
Bucky at #1 ..let white walk hes not the answer..
Olson on the right side and new te of high skill set on the left..
Every play is play action..screen..and setting up big plays..
I’ve also lost all faith in palmer send him packing .

  174. Justin Says:

@Peter (and to others who blame Baker and the offense).

Our defense is so bad that the only way that the Bucs win is if the offense can play a flawless, mistake free game? Shepard drops a pass? Game is lost. Baker fumbles, Game is lost. Where’s the complementary football? Defense gives up an 18 play, 9 minute drive? Defense never forces a punt? Nah, they aren’t the problem.

As Bugs Bunny would say: What a bunch of Maroons.

  175. Mastersacker 58 Says:

Jason Licht has to endorse the coaching staff or invite himself for building a crap defensive unit.

  176. RBUC Says:

AGAIN!!!!! Nobody is saying the defense isn’t bad the people defending Bowles are saying LICHT AND THE WHOLE BUCCANEER ORGANIZATION HAVENT PUT ENOUGH RESOURCES ON THE DEFENSIVE SIDE OF THE TEAM TO DEMAND BETTER AT THIS STAGE OF THE REBUILD! Bowles haters keep moving the FG post and frankly it’s obvious satisfying you insufferable, totally unrealistic people can’t be achieved!! Do you people even acknowledge a rebuild is taking place on the fly after winning a Superbowl only 4 seasons ago???? Reasonable fans worried the team would bottom out before showing progress then we would see where there’re at BUT WAIT they keep winning this horrible division so NOW as fans we demand the team go deep and be world beaters and they haven’t had a chance to finish rebuilding and you fools want to hold the team to that standard! DELUSIONAL & REDICULOUS!!! There is A LOT of cities that would kill to have a NFL team half as resilient as our Bucs cause reasonable people understand it takes time to build a powerhouse football that you people expect and the Bucs problems are more personal than timeouts called or not called by Bowles

  177. Roy Says:

Don’t blame the refs Bucs got out played. Coach . Defense.. Offensive coordinator.. Defense coordinator…I watched Bucs defense hit helmet to helmet a few times and there was no flag. S
What comes around goes around.. Anybody who thought Bucs was going to be at Washington must be on crack..

  178. Stanglassman Says:

I was told Todd Bowles would be fire today. He was really sure until I offered to put money on it. That’s when he went silent in the chat. Bucs fans are crazy if they think TBowles is going anywhere. The only real Bucs coaching is if Liem stays and gets a big raise. Will Jason and the Glazers insist Todd upgrade some of his D assistants. I do think that’s warranted. 2025 was always the year the Bucs would be making a realistic run for the SB.

  179. stpetebucsfan Says:

    @Durango

No disrespect taken at all and I respect YOUR point. It is speculation for sure.
That’s kind of my point. Speculation could suggest that NO HC ever gave his OC clock stopping opportunities but I suspect since I’m to lazy to research, that there are plenty of examples where Defensive oriented HC’S with a very successful OC let them call timeouts on drives ending the half.

You may be right, in fact odds are in your favor, but I suspect that BBelichik had some powerhouse OC’s that had that privilege.

  180. New Fan Land Says:

The Mighty VH are you brain dead? The D didn’t play great, but your first two statistics (0 three and out, 0 punts) were bc the WC kept going for it on 4th. The Bucs D did pretty good against that, including right before the fumble (which regardless of what Mayfield says, it was on the rookie and Mayfield is just doing what Mayfield does, shouldering the blame.)

Lots was left to be desired. Lots of passes that slipped out of the hands they were intended for. Lots of poor running decisions (Bucky trying to make a move just short of the first down marker and getting tackled behind it, even though they ultimately got it.) The D were swiss cheese on the Commanders side of the field, then buckled up on their own for most of the game.

Clock management was bad. Communication was apparently bad.

Bad penalties early definitely hurt momentum building.

It was just a bad game all around.

  181. New Fan Land Says:

Buc King Bakers fumble was definitely what lost the game, but it was McCollum’s mistake. Baker took a good snap and turned for the hand off and McCollum had already ran past him.

Baker calls himself out on even the most obvious of others’ mistakes because he knew he has a part in it (however small) and it is better to prove himself than throw a team mate under the bus.

Baker didn’t shrink or choke. He played the game that was expected. They were out coached and out played.

  182. Tony Says:

    @Upstate NY Buc

That was Dyami Brown. Dude came out of North Carolina.

  183. Tony W. Says:

The Chicago bears got rid of their coach for almost the same thing Why the buc’s hesitate to get rid of Todd !!! Let’s get a reality check Why pay your hard-on money to see the crap they put out on the field ( secondary ) revamp all over and start with some young players 6 ft and above that can do man to man!! Todd needs to let somebody else pick the defense and to be the defense coordinator he just needs to concentrate on being a coach and sit back…aka can’t think and chew bubble gum at the same time…

  184. shane Says:

BUCCANEERS’ DEFENSE IS PATHETIC…PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!

  185. chickster Says:

    Bucs got was they deserved

  186. Jean Says:

Super Bowl or 3 Division Titles. Sadly this is like giving everyone on the team a trophy when you have won nothing. Must be nice to have so much money that mediocrity is acceptable.

  187. RASH Says:

Sad We are stuck with Toilet Bowles for another year. Tickets since 1988.No More.Gonna watch Red Zone and enjoy games, not this horrible mess under this coach. He’s stubborn and predictable and not very smart. Definately not a winner.
