  1. HC Grover Says:

Bucs should go back to a simple cover 2 D and move some players aroung. It cant get worse than what it is now.

  2. Bosch Says:

China dolls have no place on an NFL playing field.

  3. NYbucsfan Says:

The only problem is Todd loves him so they’ll never move on.

  4. BA’s Red Pen Says:

    Dean is soft.

  5. stpetebucsfan Says:

I checked not sure. He has talent, he IS fragile from his college days to today that has been a constant.

I leave it up to Jason and Todd to make that decision. Who was it who said they keep him until they can replace him.

I don’t think you can ever get enough “cover” corners. Right now that would be Zyon and when he shows up Dean. I’d love for the Bucs to come up with a superstar cover guy in the draft. That along with a healthy Winfield and a decent ILB to match with LVD would dramatically improve the D.

  6. JimBobBuc Says:

Draft a starting CB at #19.

Trade Dean, or move a reduced-salary Dean to a backup role.

  7. Inwoodjeremy Says:

Dean, JTS, and Hall. They just run around on the field.

  8. Pickgrin Says:

Yes – gain $8M+ cap space that can be better utilized elsewhere. Dean ain’t worth $15M per year….

Draft a CB in 1st or 2nd rd.

  9. Josh Says:

If you can keep him for half price keep him if not as Pickgrin just said save the money spend it elsewhere….

  10. bucnjim Says:

Does anyone know where he was ranked for 2024? or Whitehead?

  12. Josh Says:

According to Pro Football Focus forgot to put that

  13. orlbucfan Says:

I’m with stpete on Not sure. The Defense was so banged up, the waterboy played a few times. 🙂

  14. Caleb Says:

We already have no depth at CB. Maybe try to get him back with a reduced salary. But definitely can’t rely on him.

  15. quarteback whisperer Says:

every time he gets beat, he gets injured it seems

  16. unbelievable Says:

Well, he missed 5 games and we lost all 5 of those games, so be card what you wish for, arm-chair GMs.

Same people were calling for Rachaad White to ride the bench and ya’ll finally got your wish the final month of the season, and what happened? Our offense was stuck in the mud and we lost 2 out of 4 games.

  17. unbelievable Says:

    *be careful

  18. Colin in Canada Says:

Just remember guys it’s not your money!

  19. ThatAintRight! Says:

Cover-2 Defense haha absolutely not. The absolute worst part of every NFL secondary in that guys play cover-2. This isn’t the 90s kid. That don’t work. You have to play fast , have good vertical , and long arms if you want to succeed at this level. This guys need man to man press man coverage DBs. It’s the only way to compete with the absolute best. Be a loser and go zone cover-2. No problem. Want to win play man and have the best coverage possible at all times. Yes I play to win. Go all in for the WIN! Bucs 2025-2026.

  20. ThatAintRight! Says:

I think Jamel Dean will still be an asset. Y’all wanna blame him for getting hurt and that’s not right either. If we had skilled depth maybe he wouldn’t have been hurt. He’s also simply just aging & it does happen so get over it. Him coming in off the bench or in 3/4 WR sets would be nice value for this secondary. He’s still good just need a younger guy to take over in his place.

Shavon Revel CB ECU is looking like a hot target right now.

  21. ModHairKen Says:

He is never healthy. He does not pick off passes.

    Move on.

  22. Joe in Michigan Says:

Dean should be replaced, IMO. Cutting him saves over $8 million on the salary cap, that should go towards a decent CB in FA, then draft a couple more.

  23. VOT Says:

He is so lackadaisical in his play, acts like we are privileged to have him there, shows complete opposite behavior of Zyon who is mentally and physically aggressive, doesn’t trust his own skill set, drops easy picks, doesn’t tackle well

Dude is way overpaid and at best should be in the 3rd corner/ Bryce Hall role

He has superior skills but his mental game is very very soft and hence he is hurt all the time….

  24. Davenport Says:

This team needs veteran depth in secondary and for that we need money.

Drafting a 1st round CB, cutting Dean, and spending the 8m on vet LBs & DBs makes perfect sense.

  25. Tim Says:

@quarterback whisperer. I was thinking the same thing.

  26. Jw94buc Says:

Situations are situational. If we draft some young DBs, I’m all in on keeping him on a cheap rotation. He is still a veteran with a ring and knowledge of the game and Todd Bowles “complex” defense. If we can scoop another cost effective half way decent veteran DB. At the end of the day It won’t matter if you can’t rash the freaking passer. in a world full of Mahomes, Allen, Daniel’s and Hurts Pass Rush is kind of paramount. Idc how long the OC search takes just get the right guy. Liam leaving just made Baker start prepping for the revenge tour.

  27. Aqualung Says:

He costs too much, plays too little, and doesn’t do anything when he is playing other that give up 4th down passes to Bryce Young.

    BuhBye.

  28. Marine Buc Says:

This is similar to the Carlton Davis situation last off-season.

Find a trade partner if possible or attempt to rework his deal first.

If that fails then cut him – but this creates another hole to fill on defense and just plugging in a rookie is not a guaranteed solution…

  29. firethecannons Says:

Yes please–missed the poll, not reliable, injury prone, all he does is get beat and get picked on successfully.

  30. MadMax Says:

Emmanwori if he’s there at 19, then trade up into the top of the 2nd for Shavon Revel if he’s still there.

  31. Aaron Says:

I’m not sure Dean even likes to play football…

  32. Joe in Michigan Says:

I don’t really understand the “Dean at a reduced salary/backup” idea…I don’t believe he really wanted to play for the $15 million he was getting a year, what would make him want to play for less? The Bucs should be able to get a CB in the 3rd or 4th Round that’ll be a more viable backup option, without the injuries and stone hands of Dean.

  33. Joe in Michigan Says:

Aaron: I also think that’s what Dean’s tape shows.

  34. #1bucsfan Says:

You keep Dean just not at his current salary. I know he’s fragile but you really can’t have to many cover corners and when healthy and I mean it’s a really big when he’s actually decent at man v man. Gotta draft a few and add one in FA. I hope we bring Bryce hall back. He’s a starter who got lost for the season in the 1st game. Cut deans salary bring hall back draft a few one high if they like a guy and thru FA. With all the injuries to DB last year we gotta load up lol

  35. Rod Munch Says:

    Typical low IQ reactionary dips—ts.

Who exactly is going to be the starting corner then, dummies?

    ^^^^^^^

Have you ever heard of free agency and the draft? For real, are you special needs?

  37. HC Grover Says:

THAT AINT Right….OUR DE IS NOW A TOTAL LOSER YOU FOOL.

  38. HC Grover Says:

That aint right likes the Bowles ‘Cover Nobody D’. Pathetic.

  39. HC Grover Says:

    Dean aint no Ronde.

  40. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

You get out of that contract if you can. Dean can be replaced and cap space added same with Godwin can’t stay healthy and the rookie already all but replaced him. We need the cap space to resign Vea and go get an edge rusher also love an upgrade on the Oline to really make that the best oline in football.

We are close to being a superbowl team but an edge rusher is everything! We need to address it have to address it!

  41. firethecannons Says:

joe in michigan lol I know right!? wtf is wrong with RM? obviously better than Dean can and would be found, most likely even udfa would be better, Dean IS that bad, it needs to be looked into!

  42. Aqualung Says:

Cut him and hope that the Lions claim him. Then hope he gets placed on their practice squad. It worked for Kaevon Merriweather. It’s genius. No questioning the clever savvy of our head coach! Haters gonna hate.

  43. Don’t make a scene 35 Says:

    Dean staying in Tampa Bay

  44. adam from ny Says:

no don’t move on from dean…

    give him this last season…

    even as the 3rd corner…

we need some stability back there – not so sure i’d call dean stability, but i’d like to somehow think he is,,,lol…

we just don’t have enough back there now, to throw him away…

he just seems meh on passion for the game or something…

he was def bowles big project, and pride and joy…if bowles is over him, holmes better wake up and start to ball

  45. Cometowin2 Says:

Reduce his salary or cut him. He would be ok as a 3rd or 4th cornerback. He’s not a starter. Too brittle and plays too soft. Draft 2 CBs in 1st round and 4th. Need to be able to play press man, have ball skills and tackle.

    Joe,

How about stories on Chris Godwin’s, Bryce Hall and SVD’s rehabilitation from injuries?

  46. Dom Says:

No, they need to add more CB’s. I agree he is unreliable health wise but the Bucs need as many CB’s and they aren’t in a dire cap situation. They should sign a CB and draft another. Let Dean walk next year when his contract expires. I don’t ever want to see Josh Hayes or Tyrek Funderburk playing CB ever again. Keeping Dean, signing a FA, and drafting a CB can prevent that from happening

  47. BamBam44 Says:

People seem to think it’s easy to just replace Dean. If it were, we probably would have already. But that’s not really the whole story. It’s not just replace Dean, it’s find someone better opposite the replacement for Dean. Now you’re looking for 2 CB’s, not 1. And not just competent CB’s, but better than Dean CB’s. If you want to find better than Dean and move Dean to the #2 CB, that won’t be easy, but it’s definitely more do-able than finding 2 better than Dean’s.

  48. Oxycondomns Says:

can we get a bowles confidence poll?

  49. Aqualung Says:

Oxy, Bowles confidence has to be sky high! Just ask his disciples.

  50. BucsFever Says:

Absolutely not. We have no depth as it is and Dean is a good cover corner. We just need to draft another corner to compete against him. If we had quality backups then maybe, but we don’t
