Gene Deckerhoff Will Return For 2025

January 13th, 2025

Bye, golly!

Legendary Buccaneers radio play-by-play man Gene Deckerhoff will return for the 2025 season, the 50th on the football field for the Tampa Bay franchise.

Joe talked to Deckerhoff last night and he said he’s ready to forge ahead with the job he’s held since 1989. Today at One Buc Palace, Joe confirmed Deckerhoff’s return.

Deckerhoff, who turns 80 before opening day, said he passed a physical and has a green light to continue delighting Bucs fans with his iconic voice.

Joe hopes Deckerhoff has many more years behind the Bucs’ microphone, and Joe sure hopes Team Glazer considers him for the Buccaneers Ring of Honor.

Yeah, Deckerhoff is a long name that will take up a lot of real estate in the Ring, but he’s certainly worth it.

Touchdown Tampa Bay! Fire the cannons! Such an iconic voice. God bless him.

  2. Bodacious Bubbie Says:

    Absolutely Rad!!!!

  3. Mrsteve Says:

I’m sorry, but listening to him stammer and miscall almost every live play is intolerable. There are times I literally don’t know what happened, and to whom. My access to to Bucs games is almost exclusively SiriusXm, so I’ve heard the deterioration over the years. It’s even more noticeable when you hear play by play from other announcers. Of course, you can always play a drinking game with whatever crutch or anecdote he uses early and repeats over and over…….

Hayward Hayward Hayward on a blocked punt return

  5. Half_Sac Says:

He needs to go should’ve after the last super bowl. He cant see whats happening on the field and has to be told whats happening by dave moore lol time to let go of the glory days that are long gone

  6. HC Grover Says:

    Good News

  7. Henry Says:

Mr peter half sac. Names that speak for themselves. Hahahahahahaha. Hope Publix has more patience with your bagging skills when you reach 80. How about way to go Gene! Great job. Thanks for your service.

  8. Dewey Selmon Says:

CAUGHT GODWIN! No Evans!, no incomplete! (waiting for Dave Moore to clear it up)

  9. Adam Tebrugge Says:

Each week I take the time to find (and pay extra for) the Bucs radio broadcast which I then synch up with the TV, just so I can hear Gene. Sure he makes mistakes but they just don’t matter, everything gets cleared up. Nobody knows Buccaneer football like Gene and Dave and this is great news.

  10. heyjude Says:

    So happy for Gene!

  11. Pmike Says:

Thank god what an icon. No better way to live a part of the game than gene’s calls.

  12. `dmurph Says:

Listening to Gene Deckerhoff is best part of the game when I can’t see live on TV

  13. PSL Bob Says:

Half_sac, I concur. His voice is iconic and he has served the franchise admirably, but c’mon man, the guy can’t call the game anymore. He’s always calling the wrong name and missing the outcome of plays. Dave Moore is constantly bailing him out. I doubt most posters here on JBF listen to games on the radio the way some of us do. Yes, put him in the Ring of Honor, but it’s time to drop the mike!

  14. OrlandoBucFan Says:

Awesome news! Dude is a legend.

  15. AllmanbrosBucs Says:

    ROCKSTAR!!!!!

  16. BallHawk75 Says:

    Alstott up the gut!!!!

Caught ball down the sideline, you go Joe, you go Joe!!!!!

Even with Bowles waxing idiotic on the sidelines, Gene can make the game sound like we’re in the Superbowl.

    Finally, some good news.

  17. Rick Says:

    Hell yes!!

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

    “iconic voice.”

Football is entertainment! Mick Hubert may get every freaking name correct but his high voice drives me nuts! And to steal Dick Enberg’s famous line is classless.

Ease up before blasting me Gators I haven’t heard your new guy but I feel certain he’s an upgrade!

  19. Joe D. Says:

1000% agree Gene needs to be in the ring of honor!

  20. Tom M Sumner Says:

    THE VOICE!!! CHAMPA BAY, FSU!!!!!

  21. Maryland Bucs Says:

    Best voice in football.

  22. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Run, Michael, Run!
    Gene’s an icon.

  23. HashmarkJones Says:

    Poor Dave Moore.

  24. SRQ Bucs Fan Says:

Toe hits leather! Ring Of Honor!

Icon – us older Bucs fans appreciate tradition!

  25. Max Vasher Says:

Great news! Living in the Southwest, I usually catch the game on internet radio. Makes me feel like I’m back home on AMI.

  26. Pete Says:

He’s the best. This is great news. Miss him on FSU broadcasts.

  27. drdneastup Says:

Love Gene and his enthusiasm for the team. May he always announce for the Bucs.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

That’s great to hear! Been listening to him since his first year with Jesse the Body Ventura and Al Keck.

A couple of years ago I was starting to worry that the GOAT might be slipping a bit – but he gave up his FSU duties to focus just on the Bucs, and he’s got a second wind, which is hard to do this late in a career. Glad he’s back.
