Ex-Bucs GM Talks Sunday Stunner
January 7th, 2025Did the Bucs really just need a fourth-quarter comeback to beat the slimy Saints after trailing 16-6 at halftime?
Keep calm. The Commanders, the Bucs’ playoffs opponent, blew a 17-point lead on the Saints and were a two-point conversion from losing to them three weeks ago.
Still, the Bucs sad early showing Sunday in a must-win game against tanking New Orleans was troublesome. Even former Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik admitted to being concerned and surprised.
Dominik, who doesn’t hide rooting for the Bucs, co-hosted on SiriusXM NFL Radio last night.
“You know, on Sunday I’m sitting there watching the Bucs, it’s the third quarter and I’m like, ‘Gosh, they might be out of the postseason. They might be done. What’s going on?'” Dominik shared. “Spencer Rattler’s playing like a man possessed and, you know, Baker Mayfield makes dynamic throws. You know, the Buccaneers, five straight years in the postseason, Jason Licht’s done a great job with that football team, really put them in position.”
Dominik went on to praise Todd Bowles and share his disbelief that Bowles has so many doubters. Dominik noted that so many other teams have underachieved when the Bucs have not. “It’s ludicrous that people were talking about Todd Bowles being fired, even last week,” Dominik said.
As for Sunday night’s Bucs-Commanders matchup, Dominik called it the “feel-good story” of Sunday’s three-game playoff slate but didn’t offer a winner.

People still thinking Dominik’s opinion is regarded higher than paying fans is hilarious.
Dude is a straight clown

Oh, this is going to be odd for many Todd defenders. Nearly all of them have the opposite opinion of Dominik. Will their brains explode?
Todd is an underachiever in the win/loss columns of the NFL standings. He’s a massive winner in practically every life aspect, however, and so far he’s just been promoted to his level of incompetence.
If the Glazers bring smoked in Bowles back in 2025, I hope his competence catches up to his level. Ten wins is nice when compared to the history of the Bucs. This team should be a12 win per season squad at a minimum. With Brady, he won eight, then has won nine and ten with Baker. That’s nine games below the unscientific opinion I have, but I’m confident in the methodology 😀 !

For once I thought some of the run calls were pretty predictable and hurt us.

I’m more for smoking Bowles than I ever was for smoking a J (on Gruden)
Go bucs

Never gonna like Bowles or any coordinator how drops pass rushers and d lineman back into coverage just to confuse a quarterback because it’s not like they get pbu’s.
January 7th, 2025 at 9:13 am
Considering Bucs are the second youngest team in the league and have been bitten by the injury bug heavily-Kudos to Todd for a job well done and the erudite unbiased fans realize it.
January 7th, 2025 at 9:13 am
I really doubt that the Glazers have restricted his budget to the point that he must handle the DC duties on top of his HC responsibilities.
IMHO he is in over his head covering both positions. If he hired a competent DC, his weekly confidence polls might stabilize just a little bit.

The Bucs are winning in SPITE of Bowles. Without the offense bailing out the defense, how many wins would the team have?
January 7th, 2025 at 9:33 am
It’s okay, Bucsfan, if people have an opinion different from yours. You come across aa more arrogant than erudite.

Dominik is right about one thing, look at us and look at the 49ers. We both had key injuries, but the real difference in us being in the playoffs is how we handled our FAs in the off-season. They added insult to injury and set the culture early for this season. They have a window of opportunity like we do, but we handled out business the right way. So, Todd should be safe. But, they desperately need to address the edge this off-season with some real meat on the bones and not pick up dudes like Randy Gregory. Without that pass rush, Todd’s backend can’t survive and he looks awful as a defensive coach. So, know your own system and stop relying on coaching and get some natural talent. At least they addressed the interior DL, but we need some sacktual healing on the edge.

Dangerfield could go on to win the SB and many of you would simply call it luck!
Your opinions are so hyperbolic as to become worthless. They run so counter to what people who actually work in the NFL believe that you lose any credibility as you descend into the “Opinions are like aholes, everybody has one.”
But if hating on Dangerfield is your thing rock on!
If you count the 3 games in Miami (2-1) he has coached 8 years in the NFL.
The first four in Woody’s playhouse up in NYC where Dangerfield has been the ONLY HC in FIFTEEN years to win ten games!!! As HC of the Bucs he’s the first to reach the post season in ALL of his seasons!!!
But I get it. People with ZERO NFL experience know more than Dangerfield.\
I appreciate OPINIONS. I appreciate stylistic differences. I like offense so I prefer BA but I also RESPECT RESULTS. Dangerfield has delivered.

the main reason so many people doubt Bowles, imo, is his failure to anticipate obvious offensive strategies. hence, first half struggles. scripted plays from more nuanced coaches work like a charm because they can predict what Bowles is going to do.

According to Vegas, Bowles has overachieved this year and last.
Line was 7.5 wins this year (won 10) and 6.5 last year (won 9).

Permanently Moderated, you’re the arrogant dingbat. It’s one thing to criticize, but the constant carping your bunch does on here is a joke. Mark Dominik’s big toe knows more about NFL football than your entire head. Hey, stpete, I’m loving the Dangerfield routine. 🙂 Glad to see Dominik and Licht hold no hard feelings against each other. Class acts. Goooo Bucs!!!!!

Let’s see if we can win our home playoff game. As the number 3 seed we have a slight chance of getting a second game if the wildcards can pull off some upsets. Well, except the Redskins.

@stpetebucsfan…well put.

“Never gonna like Bowles or any coordinator how drops pass rushers and d lineman back into coverage just to confuse a quarterback because it’s not like they get pbu’s”
This is part of the modern NFL. 355lb Michael Pierce grabbed an INT on Saturday. Sunday night, the announcers were talking how double digit sack man Van Ginkle has over 100 coverage snaps.

At the end of the 2019 season, if someone were to tell you that over the next 5 years the Bucs would win 4 straight division titles, an NFC Championship, and a Superbowl
you’d probably would call someone an idiot for complaining about anything.
Anyone who complains about the overall achievements of this front office since JL took over is a f$cking clown.

Thanks for bringing a little BALANCE to the discussion.

I just don’t want to lose Coen to keep Bowles. Like keeping Kyle Trask instead of Baker Myfield player wise. Players lose jobs to better players, why shouldn’t coaches. It’s America, it’s capitalism.
January 7th, 2025 at 2:07 pm
I will never respect Dominick. He left the cupcoard bare when he was fired. Picked Adrian Clayborn instead of Cam Jordan. Complete moron. Like picking Logan Hall instead of George Karliftis. Grounds for dismissal.
January 7th, 2025 at 3:05 pm
One thing about dropping OLBs in coverage often is they have to be getting better at it.
Just Sunday, Rattler threw exactly in between Nelson and Diaby. Literally a foot there.
Dropping VV against a TE was crazy though. That’s too much IMO.
I know Bowles is trying to steal one against a rookie QB.
A few years ago when we won the SB, I remember thinking we can’t beat the Saints playing off coverage and Bowles played man almost the whole game.
Bowles is a smart man and this is the time of year he has earned the defensive guru title.
Let’s wait and see what he does Sunday night.
I for one think they will be flying around.
January 7th, 2025 at 3:42 pm
C’mon Joe—the Slimy Saints were *not* tanking. Before the game, I’ll give you that. But nothing in the play calling, the grit of the players breaking tackles, or the animated coach on the sidelines suggest anybody on the field gave tanking any thought.
January 8th, 2025 at 3:26 am
Joesea, using the Vegas wins line isn’t the defense of Bowles you think. In fact, anyone reasonably acknowledging the talent on the roster, is left with one explanation for the discrepancy with Vegas. It’s Bowles. Another, better head coach (whether actually better or simply perceived to be better), results in a Vegas preseason wins line 2 or 3 more than it’s been.
Take our roster, add the Kansas City coaching staff, and that line is at least 10.
This argument makes the case for those who believe Bowles has held the team back.

10 wins, 12 wins, 15 wins who cares, its playoff time! the only games that matter!

Bucs should hire Robert Salah as defensive coordinator
