ESPN: Liam Coen Leaving For Jacksonville

January 23rd, 2025

Ugh!

Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news.

The Bucs lost their man.

Nothing official yet, but Schefter says Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen is in Jacksonville negotiating a deal to make him the next Jaguars head coach — two days after Schefter and others reported Coen was staying in Tampa.

Schefter added, The “Buccaneers have had no contact today with Liam Coen or his representation. The team has made multiple efforts to reach him and has not.”

Ghosted!

  12. Josh Says:

Now the whole franchise looks like a giant joke… Can’t keep the good coaches or even the crappy ones…

  13. Chris Says:

Glazers better make Coen the HC

  14. Tye Says:

And the Bucs plummet to the bottom of the NFCS with the Saints!

  15. JerryP Says:

    So much for integrity.

  16. Day 1-76 Says:

At least we kept defensive guru Todd Bowles over him. This should work out well.

  17. Durango 95 Says:

“Plot twist: #Bucs OC Liam Coen has been speaking with the #Jaguars in person for their HC job, and he is a key candidate to be the coach in Jacksonville, per me and @TomPelissero.

Days after agreeing to a massive extension in Tampa, he may find a HC job he could not refuse.”

  18. Coburn Says:

Good play caller but character wise it definitely rubs me the wrong way to flip flop like this after having a handshake deal

  19. Jason Says:

    Fire Bowles

  20. Herbiebuc Says:

Liam cohen benefited from a talented roster ! Dave canals did the same thing I am not worried about our offense the past five season excluding Tom last year when he threw everything away to avoid getting sacks our offense has been top ten averaging 30 points a game find another offensive coordinator relax Bucs fans!

  21. Durango 95 Says:

Hey how about those Glazers. Does not sound good.

  22. It's Corn Says:

A contract is something that cannot be broken. That CANNOT… BE… BROKEN. Excuse me.
They’re broken every day — in all directions.–Joe

  23. BucVoyager Says:

Companies make counter offers all the time. I don’t blame Coen for this. I don’t blame the Glazers for this either.

Truth is that this is business and we are stuck with Bowles because even though we wish differently, he hasn’t done anything to get fired.

  24. FortMyersDave Says:

Ouch. Apologies to the crazy Jag radio guy.

  25. Curse of Gruden Says:

Is he taking Bowels with him?

  26. firethecannons Says:

well Joe you were the one who thought this might happen, what a shame

  27. Wayne perez Says:

    Unfortunately this is the nfl

  28. cmurda Says:

Dude might have a good offensive mind but he’s human trash. You are going to ghost the franchise that just elevated you to head coaching vacancies. that’s called a trash human being. i wish the worst for the man

Glazers better make Coen the HC
    —–
Sounds like it’s too late for that now. They dragged their feet. You done messed up, boys.?

  30. FortMyersDave Says:

Hopefully the Glazers do not let Coen take the offensive staff with him but if they are offered oromotions, the Bucs cannot stop them. Glazers got hosed.

  31. Dom Says:

I was part of the fire Bowles if you need to to keep Coen, but after this move forget it. This man told the Bucs they had a deal, then ghosted them, and met in secrete with Khan shortly after. To not even have the decency to take the Bucs phone call or to reach out to them to tell them he’s moving on shows a complete lack of respect for the organization, and the people that gave him this opportunity. It’s a shady way to do business and not the type of character I want leading my team

  32. Panhandle Buc Says:

Character flaw 💯 %!! Snake move and NOT a good look! Was all about opportunity, but go about it the right way…this appears to not be THE RIGHT WAY!

  33. K Says:

Well at least we still have Todd Bowles.. I’m going to go cry now. Hopefully our record setting offense will be able to pick up another new system for the 4th year in a row. What a joke this franchise is.

  34. Dewey Selmon Says:

Coen did the same thing with the Rams/Kentucky.

  35. Jw94buc Says:

    Wow. Fail miserably in Jacksonville

  36. WhatTheBuc Says:

Should have fired Bowles and offered him the head coach job.

  37. Durango 95 Says:

All hands on deck are leaving Bowles and his sinking ship.

  38. FortMyersDave Says:

Joes, could this impact season ticket renewals? Coin is one thong thst dets the managements attention.

  39. cmurda Says:

Umm no Chad. When you have human trash as a coach, you let that man leave. You will live to regret it. Also, how is that supposed to happen since the P.O.S is not responding to the Bucs.

  40. NYbucsfan Says:

It’s Toilet Bowl. He is a sinking ship.

  41. Leopold Stotch Says:

This hurts and I’m very mad

  42. FortMyersDave Says:

Dewey is right. Guy does jump for the next best opportunity. I wonder how much coin he is getting and how long it will take him to say he wanted to work with Trevor Lawrence rather than Baker….. I hope he has more class than that.

  43. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Everybody hates Todd.

  44. Josh Says:

Where’s that Bowles culture at? Coen’s gone now apparently, Canales jumped ship as soon as he could, and now the defensive coaches are leaving. We all criticized them, but watch them be great, and it turns out it was Bowles’ playcalling. I was fine with Bowles staying as long as we didn’t have to reboot the offense, but now I feel like this will just be a wasted season, with him being fired after anyways. It’s just too much to overcome—three coordinators in three years. Even the great Peyton Manning said it’s like learning a new language. You can’t just expect Baker, Mike, and Bucky to keep going exactly the same with new coach after new coach. If the defense doesn’t improve drastically, I just don’t see how you can go out and find another seemingly great offensive innovator. Maybe Thad Lewis can pull it off, but I just don’t see it. It’s almost like lightning striking—not once, not twice, but three times. It could happen, but holy crap, Bowles should be a GM if that’s the case, as he can identify offensive coordinators like no one else.

  45. Saskbucs Says:

Yeah I’m not super worried. The next OC is set up for success. I’m not sure he was gonna be a better HC option than Bowles. I never really wanted Bowles gone for him.

Will suck if Canales gets Panthers turned around fast and Coen gets Jax goin. Not that Canales was ever getting Bowles job after last year but wild both OCs are immediately HCs after 1 full season at OC. I think just goes to show how much there is to work with on offense. Ton of talent.

  46. Nick2 Says:

Glazers should’ve seen this coming how many coaches that are assistance turned down A head coaching job zero maybe one Ben Johnson. Now we’re stuck with a subpar defensive coordinator who relies on soft coverage and dropping defensive lineman into coverage and no offensive coordinator.

  47. Max Mitch Says:

Do we all like the song “Something To Talk About” by Bonnie Raitt?

  48. FortMyersDave Says:

Good take Dom. It wiuld be interesting to find out how it happened. Did Coen just not show up to work this morning and did not answer Bucs texts or calls? Kind of shady for sure.

  49. Chad Says:

The behind the scenes stuff, like not signing contract, not returning Bucs calls while’s secretly meeting with jags in person. It’s a little off putting and I get nfl is a business but I feel like the way he went about it and all the secrets, it’s kind of dirty

  50. Chad Says:

I hate it for baker and the offense, they will have to learn another playbook, baker can’t have stability cuz he’s on like his 8th or 9th offensive coordinator

  51. Outrigger Says:

Glazers are idiots for letting this guy walk. He’ll be the next McVay and we’ll be stuck with Lovie 2.0

  52. NYbucsfan Says:

    This is just embarrassing.

  53. cmurda Says:

There’s no way I’m joining in on the Todd Bowles trashing. I save that for gamedays as I unload based on emotion. This is 100% on Liam being a lousy person. it’s just the wrong way to conduct yourself. karma will catch up with the piece of trash but as far as losing these other coaches. How can you fault a guy for getting a promotion? if anything, it’s a credit to Todd. I don’t even fault Liam for wanting to be a Head coach but when you ghost a team that threw buckets of cash and have treated you like gold, then, like I said you’re simply trash. Wussified trash.

  54. Winston Says:

It’s because the jags fired thier gm guys. Coaches pulled them selves from the jags spot because of the “setup” (the gm that just got fired still in place) and now candidates are attracted there with a fresh GM. Still bad on Liam’s part a lot because he agreed to come back but is now reversing course.

  55. Tbbucs3 Says:

Its more of an inconvience than anything….

The Bucs still have a top 10 roster on offense in football..

As long as the Bucs dont hire Marcus Arroyo, we’ll be fine.

THE SKY IS NOT FALLING BUCS FANS!!!

  56. Tbbucs3 Says:

Blamming Todd Bowles is probably the stupidest thing you can do right now.

Hilarious how when Bucs fans thought he was returning, yall gave all the credit to Jason Licht and the Galzers….

And know since he’s leaving were gonna blame Todd Bowles??

Hypocrites, some of ya’ll truly hate Bowles in a way that goes beyond football.

  57. dumboldguy Says:

I don’t blame Bowles, if I were being overpaid and unfireable I’d keep doing the job too. I don’t blame Coen. The Jags removed the roadblock to get him and he’s going to make a lot more money as a head coach.

I blame the Glazers for being cowards not willing to make the hard choice, so they just let the worst outcome happen to them.

  58. Outrigger Says:

Now watch Greenberg go to the Jags as our GM. We’re the only club In the league who gets poached while barely making the playoffs every year. I could understand if we just won back to back Super Bowls.

  59. Zoocomics Says:

Not happy about any of this, but I bet the desperate owner not only offered him a ridiculous sum of money, but without a GM in place, I’d bet he even gave him some that power as well…very hard to turn down. I’m incredibly disappointed that we got to go through this sh!t all over again, and the fans, oh the fans are pure exhaustion with the negativity on Bowles… at least keeping Liam, we could move on into the offseason, but now, it will be the “we should have fired Bowles” crowd and kept Liam.

Sorry, not sorry, I hope this back fires on Liam and the Jags.

  60. adam from ny Says:

if he’s this slimy, he’s gonna come back to the glazers and tell them to beat the offer…

and to can the guy who hired him (bowles)…

    this is getting nasty

  61. Nobs Says:

I was just wiping out my shower, it had scum on it. Liam must of used it while i was away. I’ll be rooting hard against him next season and i’d love to see Todd pop him in the jaw, just for the bucs fans .

  62. GoneGator Says:

Well, step out for awhile and come back to this.
    As the world turns.

  63. Scott Says:

That is a cool picture Joe. That dude doesn’t want to be stuck as an OC anymore.. will miss him and what could have been.

  64. Scott Says:

Cohen may be poaching Spytek from Brady now

  65. Tony Says:

Wow if the team can’t get slapped in the face anymore. I’m sure Cameron Jordan is laughing & I’m sure he’s gonna say that we’re gonna go back to being us now.

  66. orlbucfan Says:

Well, it doesn’t bother me at all. Coen is stupid if these reports are all true. Another OC, yet again. I sure as h3ll’s bells hope he is better than both Canales and Coen. Hey, how about checking in with Dirk Koetter? He’s the OC who really started pulling together the great Bucs Offenses we’re seeing now. Probably not. He was one of those coaches that could not make the successful transition from an excellent OC to a HC. The Bucs Offense deserves the best as they are developing into a blue ribbon Offense. The Defensive assistants deserve their promotions; this clown is not HC material. It will sure keep Licht and Bowles up burning the midnight oil. I stand by my prediction that the Bucs will be scary good next season. Period. End. of. statement.

  67. Murph Says:

Why would anyone want Coen at this point. What a jerk. A person who does not live by his word is not a good person. Better off without him. I would take Todd Bowles over him any day of the week. Good riddance.

  68. FortMyersDave Says:

Outrigger, doubtful Greenberg will bolt for the Jags unless they made him the highest paid GM in the league.

OrlBucFan, I think Koetter is probably enjoying retirement in Idaho or some other place where you cannot get a cellphone signal. Plus the dude is pretty long in the tooth. It is a young man’s coaching world which is why the Bucs may have erred in having so much confidence in Bowles.

    —————–
You have a point, Ft. Myers. But the constant Bowles badmouthing is annoying. Criticism is not what a lot of these weirdos are doing. Plus, are they actual Buc fans? I’ve never heard of a good third of them. What’s their credibility?

  70. Donald G Says:

Wtih Coen or without The Bucs win the south again. Relax and shut up you dumazz people

  71. SBucs Says:

F*ck Myron Coen. The man is not trustworthy. How do you his players will feel for the lying s o B?

  72. John Says:

If this turns out to be true then Liam Cohen can go to hell! He will never be welcomed in Tampa or in any other franchise again! He has no loyalty to fans. Nothing matters to him except prestige.I know this is a business but the business is driven by fans. If this winds up being untrue and he stays with the bucks then I give him major props. If he comes out and makes a statement then maybe I’ll listen. The fact he withdrew his name from consideration for the head coach position giving all bucks fans hope that he was committed to this team shows he has no loyalty at all.

  73. Marky mark Says:

Money talks and Bull Manure walks

  74. unbelievable Says:

I knew it was bad news when they fired their GM right after Coen had supposedly removed himself from consideration… it was obvious they were making another run at him.

Coupled with no official word from Bucs about his new contract… Yup, it’s a Bucs life.

  75. CleanHouse Says:

    This is hilarious
