“Clown” Label Suggested For Some Bucs Fans
January 28th, 2025A guy who collects a check from the Buccaneers reached his personal hate tolerance, apparently, as the calls for Todd Bowles’ firing spread like a wildfire through Bucs fandom late this season.
Buccaneers Radio Network voice T.J. Rives seemed to let his guard down a bit on his final podcast following the Bucs’ home loss to the Commanders in the playoffs.
Rives was adamant that Bucs fans must consider the 2024 Tampa Bay season with appreciation and respect. If you’re among the masses that feel disappointed and have lost a their share of confidence in Todd Bowles, Rives doesn’t want to hear you.
“You have to view this as a successful season. I don’t care what kind of clown you are that thinks that somehow we should fire everybody into the sun …,” Rives said.
Ouch!
Are you a “clown?”
Joe knows a lot of fans who feel this season’s one-and-done in the playoffs was a letdown, a step backward from the 2023 campaign. In fact, Joe would suggest a typical casual Bucs fan (of which their are hundreds of thousands) would view the Bucs’ season exactly that way — because the team didn’t advance as far.
The 2024 Bucs succeeded in winning the NFC South by two games. It’s to be applauded, but Joe respects those fans who feel a coaching upheaval is warranted. Joe doesn’t tell anyone how to be a fan.
Rives wasn’t all bouquets, he acknowledged the Bucs defense was “frustrating” with “confusion in your secondary” that he called “awful,” and lacking takeaways and an edge pass rush.
One thing Joe can type with certainty is that if the Bucs don’t progress in the standings and in the playoffs next season, there will be a lot more “clowns” on the streets, to use Rives’ word.

I hate the HC but love our team.
Bucky Irving is electric.
Our OL is getting better and will soon be great.
Our QB has my total support.
Our WRs/TEs are among the best.
Our Defense is another story with the exception of a few key players.
Who’s responsible for our Defense again?
January 28th, 2025 at 7:22 pm
It is a good thing fans don’t run the show!!. I mean a year ago we were rebuilding. Thanks to getting Baker and incredible draft, we went from rebuilding to a team ready for the playoffs. However Ira said it best this year’s team was not a Super Bowl team, personnel wise. However with that said being a fan , I think w e were all excited at how good the offense was, especially when Godwin was playing. However, at the same time everyone saw the defense, usually a strength had major issues personnel wise. Additionally, the injuries only made things worse. It definitely was hard not to get frustrated with this defense this year.
However if you remember Licht said they knew the defense needed pieces and they were not all going to happen this, so the Bucs knew full welll where they were.
I will reserve judgment on Bowles until he gets the pieces he needs. With that said, you live with the blitz you die by the blitz and teams definitely know how to beat his scheme. I doubt his scheme changes , but hopefully the pieces do.
The grass isn’t always greener and this may be the case with Bowles. His players love him and he definitely has been part of changing the culture. Remember the Yucs!!
January 28th, 2025 at 7:25 pm
TJ has always been a bootlicker extraordinaire, going back to his days on 820 when he used to dump on Duemig and WDAE. The hilarity that TJ ended up no longer having his own show, and had to work for WDAE after all, is beyond rich.
January 28th, 2025 at 7:28 pm
I agree 100% with Rives. The countless so called fans in these comments who want to fire Bowles after every loss are beyond clueless. The man is a professional. Culture matters and continuity matters. Guys play hard when they care about each other. Bowles is a great man, leader and coach. It could be A LOT worse.

Chuck. My feelings exactly. He suck3d on the radio back then and he is the clown.

January 28th, 2025 at 7:35 pm
I voted “little confidence” in the internationally recognized Joe Bucs poll for the better part of the last two seasons. I started voting “confident” toward the end of this season because I saw improvement. I don’t expect perfection from Bowles, or anyone else for that matter, but I did see improvement. Yeah, the pass defense sucked. But when you consider the injuries to the secondary, the bare shelf where edge rushers are stored, and the lack of quality linebackers other than LVD, you gotta feel good about next season and about Bowles.
January 28th, 2025 at 7:39 pm
Joe doesn’t tell anyone how to be a fan.
I agree Joe. Every fan can have his opinion. I dont agree with many, hey sometimes i think comments and opinions i read are stupid, But there is no need for calling names and hostility. Thas is classles.
We can have different opinions, we can argue a lot but we can do it with class.
Go Bucs
January 28th, 2025 at 7:41 pm
Labeling people clowns or stupid, etc. because they have different opinions than you has become so prevalent in today’s world. No more we’ll agree to disagree. It’s my way or you suck and know nothing about football. You all know who you are. TJ Rives is just another intolerant individual.

“But there is no need for calling names and hostility. Thas is classles.”
Does that go for the “clowns” who spell BOWLES as bowels. Not only classless but indicative of a Pee Wee Herman level of humor as in his famous saying…
“That’s so funny I forgot to ask”.
How about all the DEI and Rooney posts which are clearly insulting Bowles for the color of his skin! Is that classless as well.
Are we not allowed to call this out?
January 28th, 2025 at 7:45 pm
Joe, firing everybody under the sun and being disappointed in how the season ended aren’t the same. Did the Bills have a successful season? The Bucs? The Lions? Arguments to be made I suppose but they’re all disappointed in the end. Fans of those teams calling for the Head coaches to be fired would be considered clowns by many.
What do I know? I was upset when Dungy was fired but a SB came the next season for the Bucs and Dungy got one later with Indy. Who knows if he ever would have won one in TB. Maybe I’m too patient but I see much to like about this past season and look for major improvements to the defense in 2025. If that doesn’t happen maybe next year I’ll be considered a clown by some.
January 28th, 2025 at 7:47 pm
We all have our opinions and some are more educated than others. I won’t do name calling like this guy, it detracts from my voice. I won’t get into arguments about opinion’s.
I predicted a 10-7 record but it played out way different than I expected with the great offense and defense stepping back. Disappointed but optimistic! LFG!

here’s a little thought…
what if coen struggles mightily these first couple years in jacksonville…
it’s totally possible, and he probably gets a pass from cheech marin……i mean shad khan…
ok so in year 3 of his contract…2027…we finally play these fools…
what if:
his team is utterly failing and his hot seat seems heated af…and we play and whoop on them like 48-10…in a humiliating loss…
and…
shahid shahad cans the bum midseason………and the bucs in the end sealed a mofos fate…
#UnicornTypeFinishes
January 28th, 2025 at 7:50 pm
another thought…
say bowles was only the DC here…not the HC…
would he have been fired after this horrendous season by his defense…?
or would he have survived for the 2025 season…
i’m saying only as DC…would he be employed by the bucs right now…?
January 28th, 2025 at 7:52 pm
This season was nothing to be proud of one and done anything less than a championship is loser talk
January 28th, 2025 at 7:56 pm
Bowels as a DC would be fired, low sack totals from his edge and only 7 ints this year. And the memory of Cooper Kupp still lingering…
January 28th, 2025 at 7:56 pm
Fire Bowles!!! I can’t believe this guy still has a job. Bucs are just wasting their time until they wake up and realize he’s not the answer here. Frankly, until he’s gone I can’t care about this team.

yeah dewey…i think he’d be gone now if his only title was DC
January 28th, 2025 at 7:59 pm
There’s no one that’s been a Bucs fan longer than I have. Simple as that..:-) FWIW. Not much in my opinion. Im sure there are quite a few that have been fans as long as I have.. Everyone has a right to their own opinion on the team and the past season. No problem. Rives can say whatever he likes but he doesn’t tell me how I should go about my fandom. The fact he is an employee of the team, holds no sway at all, In fact I take a dim view of any employee of the team that would refer to members their own fan base as “clowns”. Meh. Whatever. People say things. The only time I take notice of what anyone says about me is when I value their opinion. So should someone call me something derogatory It doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Why would it. I don’t care about their opinion at all. It’s good to remember that as you go through life as well. Avoids a lot of hassle.
January 28th, 2025 at 8:01 pm
also first round losses in the playoffs…one and done…is tough…
if you win a playoff game, you nestle into that smaller grouping of teams that belongs there, more or less…
if one and done in the playoffs, it’s kinda like your a fringe team…
ousted with the blink of an eye…
gone in 60 seconds type sh!t…
a playoff win after a good season is always satisfying…in the end only the chiefs win anyway

I’m not a big Bowles guy. But he did win 10 games. Over half of the NFL teams did not do that. And to win with practically no Defense? Speaks volumes about him and his staff. Our Offense will continue to be good this year, even with a new OC.If todd can get us a Defense that actually can pass rush? We might have something great.
January 28th, 2025 at 8:34 pm
Some fans here are clowns. Quite a few actually but thats my opinion..
They seem to post ONLY to dump on Mr Bowles.
Not liking him or the job he’s done is fine but how many times do you have to say it? Every day? Every article? Do you have anything else to say, about the team or football, or is that it?
And like others have mentioned – the derogatory terms… the thing that gets me is not a single solitary one of these “gentlemen” would say anything like that if you were in a room with the man.
Some are obvious trolls, looking to trigger people (wait for it/them – lol :)).
Some just seem ignorant and angry – I have more sympathy for those guys.
I’ve never seen as much conflict & bickering anywhere as I have here. Good for business I’m sure, but I suspect its going to eventually run off or discourage most posters, except the angry old bigots who already provide an over-sized percentage of the “comments”.
Cue the Poop slingers.
January 28th, 2025 at 8:37 pm
The only reason the Bucs won their division and made the playoffs is because the Falcons folded late.
As I stated earlier, Bowles still being the Bucs head coach just shows how much power that Arians still has in the organization
January 28th, 2025 at 8:39 pm
I like Jason Licht and Todd Bowles so I am not a “clown”. I do think it might be wise if Todd would delegate HC decision making during games to someone somehow. I know this would be unorthodox. Thinking out of the box here.
January 28th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
There are clowns in every fan base, Tampa is no exception. This was supposed to be year 2 of a rebuild, which saw two division titles and a playoff win. These clowns think having a KC situation is their birthright. It’s not.
January 28th, 2025 at 8:46 pm
I sure hope the Glazers aren’t the “clowns” in the long run. Imagine the outrage if coen gets the jags back on track and we end up having another 8-9 or 9-8 season ☹️
January 28th, 2025 at 8:51 pm
Just one man’s opinion as Tampa native that has lived through more than one ‘lost decade’. Wasn’t perfect, wasn’t always pretty – but I’ll count it as a success. Division Title + home playoff game. If we would have swept Washington and went and lost the next game (like last season), then the clowns would still be clownin’. To put it into perspective, that means anything short of NFC Title game will not be good enough be a “success”. Reach NFC Title game then anything short of Super Bowl win = disappointment. Just can’t buy into that philosophy. Dynasties are few and far between. The desert seasons of sloppy play, poor coaching, being blown out by halftime stacked consecutively with only top 10 draft picks to soothe the pain is far more common.
Being happy isn’t getting what you want, it’s wanting what you’ve got. I love thiis year’s team and am excited for next season too.

I’m just happy to read through the comments and see so many of the other fans chime in regarding the season, the team, the culture of the team, and the job that Bowles has done.
We’re a winning, competitive team. We did so during rebuilding years and we’re developing young players. Bowles and this management does so much right.
Team culture is the best it’s ever been
The program’s reputation throughout the league is the best it’s ever been
It’s the most consecutive divisions championships we’ve ever had
We’re drafting and developing young talent better than ever before AND better than the majority of the league.
Players love the coach and management, want to play hard for the team, and players want to come to the organization.
We found and hired two top notch OCs
I think Todd Bowles time management and time out decisions are bad.
But firing Bowles for that and not recognizing all of the other great stuff is like saying you hate your Corvette because the clock on the radio doesn’t work all the time.

Apparently Rives ears are clogged because the ones who have a problem legitimate problem with Bowles knew one and done was coming because of his defense, it’s the fans fault they were debating whether to miss the playoffs to get a better draft pick? Apparently these division titles make fans moist and they love the first round exists. There is only one problem with this team and it ain’t Bowles absolutely dull sideline personality, press conferences, bad clock management or the talent on the roster as you will see when Bucs waste money in free agency and throw picks away in the draft. If Bowles comes out with the same defense this year he’ll get the same results only I hope this time next year I hope there’s a head coach search going on if that’s the case
January 28th, 2025 at 9:24 pm
Weird. You posted this local media article, while I was just on the previous “Licht Furious” post also, commenting on the local media LoL. So, guess I’ll repost it here, then…
This franchise has always been soooo secretive behind closed doors with literally, EVERYTHING they do. But, they’ve been allowed to get away with it throughout all these years. Because, we have never had a local media to demand, or expect anything more than that. Now, I’m NOT wishing to be the Cowboys (or a few others), BUT we should get a lot more than what WE get from this (‘ownership’) group. Which is basically NOTHING EVER, for the most part. And, I have never witnessed any ‘aggressiveness’ from anyone in the local media, either. They are all too scared and more worried about being their ‘friends’ and pushing whatever THEIR (the team) narrative is. Especially, on WDAE. It has really gotten soooo ridiculous on there, for the past several weeks. T-Kras wants to put on this big front that he is just SO TOUGH, but it’s ridiculous. He has really gone insane lately, while ONLY pushing the agenda.
January 28th, 2025 at 9:34 pm
Too many pseudo fans give Bowles credit for doing something good by digging this team out of the losing rut that he himself created by not having his team ready to play and fielding a poor excuse of a defense. If not for that Coen guy that all the girls on this forum suddenly hate, Bowles would have been put out one his rear end like he should have been. But the loser girls on this forum think he’s some kind of hero for being average. Wake up you punk losers. Milquetoast moma boys. You punks never had a father so now you worship your big daddy Bowles.
Hey, this is kind of fun.
January 28th, 2025 at 9:36 pm
@ DoooshLaRue , I feel you there , I hate Baker but love the team.
January 28th, 2025 at 9:40 pm
It’s not about 1 game or even 1 season. It’s about a pattern of mistakes Bowles has made over 3 full seasons. It took some people 1.5 years to see it, it took others 2 seasons, others yet it took his 3rd season to see it.
After season 4, the pattern of his D getting shredded or him trusting them to get a stop in crunch time and failing, poor clock management, team coming out flat numerous times a year, going on mid season losing streaks after other teams come together and start figuring it out… more “clowns” will come out.
Cause when those issues rear their head for 3 seasons straight, people start to doubt your ability to adapt and win big games consistently (which it takes to win a SB).
January 28th, 2025 at 9:46 pm
This article from the Joes does not shock me in the least. Anyone not parroting the company line must be scorned and smeared as a so called clown.
The Glazers are the ones who look like clowns now. The only reason we won 10 games was because of a potent offense orchestrated by Coen. Now he’s gone and we’re left with bozo.
Bowels could have been fired at the bye week and we never would have lost a beat. And now we’re stuck with him another year at best, possibly longer.
The clueless game management, inability to effectively use timeouts, ultra conservative in late game critical moments, and finally the Swiss cheese 29th ranked pass defense are all great reasons to move on immediately.
No other team in the NFL would take him as their HC. That would be committing playoff suiciide. And the real clowns want us to clap liike compliant seals.

At the end of the day, getting into the playoffs in so many years now, makes Bowles look like a freegin genius, in retrospect and we’re the only team to have crushed kc in the superbowl too holding them to no touchdowns. Regardless that the secondary goes into serious lapses from time to time.

Todd Bowles is the reason Baker Mayfield is a Buc. And Baker is the reason the Bucs have high hopes. I am still laughing at all the post about why Antoine Winfield being the most important player in free agency last year for the Bucs. Like having Winfield or not would have changed the Bucs making the playoffs. Bowles was in Licht’s ear everyday telling Buc Leadership to not risk 2023 on Kyle Trask. Trask is basically a beta version of Will Levis. Baker is the most loyal player you will find in the league. Old school it’s about TEAM guy. You fire Bowles this year, you lose faith from Baker and many on the team. Now if the Bucs go a third season short of an division round win to the NFC Champ game while having a top 10 offense, I can see patience getting thinner even from Shake-n-Bake. Bowles is on the hot seat but you aren’t going take away the seat for the 2025 season. Next year will be a win-win. We either go further in the playoffs or we’ll take a chance on new coaching leadership to get us over the hump.

30 teams are disappointed and anIn throther will join them in two weeks. Big deal. Over the past twenty-five years only three teams that made the playoffs have fired their coach. None of the three had preseason totals as low as the Buccaneers (7.5), who outperformed expectations by 2+ games. Look at the franchises that fired their coach: Jets UNDER; Cowboys UNDER; Saints UNDER; Raiders UNDER; Jaguars UNDER; Patriots UNDER ;Bears UNDER. These are facts. Anyone who looked at the Buccaneers starting eleven on defense and thought this was a defense going deep into the playoffs was deluded, though sometimes that is what it means to be a fan. Yeah, yeah it is all well and good to say if only the coach would play man to man. But what if the coach knows his players aren’t up to it? Why are the Eagles in the Super Bowl this year? Isn’t this the team the Buccaneers routed in the playoffs last year? Because they didn’t fire their coach and their GM made fantastic acquisitions in free agency. Why did the Buccaneers blast them again early in this season. Because their two starting wide receivers were injured and out. Bowles is not without flaws. But he e is not the reason we did go further in the playoffs. Now, damn it, get us the players we need to fix the defense As Steve Dumig used to say, you can’t make chicken salad from chicken s–t.
January 29th, 2025 at 3:49 am
Eagles fans were calling for Sirrianis head after last season, those fans are what I would describe as clowns. Fans calling for Bowles who’s tenure at the Bucs has consisted of:
Brady’s only ever losing season
27 wins – 24 losses
Numerous opposing QBs career games
A wide open middle of the field on every single snap
Awful clock time management
To me fans calling for his head after that aren’t what I’d call clowns.
The only defence of Bowles I see are that we won the division 3x in a row but that’s thanks to the fact that it’s the worst division in football and even then we have barely won by the skin of our teeth and the other defence of him is that “players respect him/continuity.
We have seen what Bowles is, he’s the guy who’s going to get you near the .500 mark and will trust the opponents to make a mistake more than he trusts his team to do well, firing Bowles may very well be a bad decision which puts us in a position where we win 7 games instead of 10 (realistically with a roster as talented as ours even Hue Jackson would be hard pressed to have a worse result than 7 wins) but so far he has done nothing to instill any confidence that he’s the guy who can take us to the Superbowl which ultimately is all that matters. I’d rather be the Bengals with up and down seasons but a chance to win the SB than the Steelers who make the playoffs each year and fail at the first hurdle.
January 29th, 2025 at 5:03 am
We are fans, in and out. Some of this rings true though.
Growing up in NY as a Bills fan before relocating to Tampa Bay, many probably would have called Bills fans the same. Maybe still do. And I don’t recall anyone asking for their current coach to be fired.
I support Coach Bowles. He has done well.
January 29th, 2025 at 5:11 am
Todd can blamed for a some of his questionable decisions but I think some can be improved on. Also think a sitdown with Jason to discuss this with light is the best way to address this.
In no way can he be blamed for Brady’s last season, Brady and Leftowich
collaborated on this offense. Age and a suspect O Line crept up on him. Todd wasn’t the one throwing dirt balls and giving up on plays. Tom wasn’t all in his
final season as evidenced by his “I came back here for this” comment.

Did not Baker play for the Commandos oC at Texas Tech. Give him a call. Weather better down here. He coached Evans and Manziel at A@m. Reunion time.

There are several reasons why I consider it perfectly fine to question Todd Bowles as an NFL HC. A few that come to mind:
1) Poor clock management
2) Missed tackles
3) Pass rushers in coverage that rarely works
4) Getting completely shredded by a cooked Kirk Cousins in 2 games
5) Starting JTS for several seasons
6) Backups not ready to play when starters were injured
7) Running a defense that somehow confuses his own players, but most decent QB’s have it figured out in no time
What did I miss?

Rod Munch the ‘clown’ didn’t have anything to say about Baker the whole 2024 season due to Baker doing nothing but breaking and setting records all year. Not to mention playing like an MVP. LMAO

This is equivalent to The ReTodd Cult calling people clowns. It’s a nobody giving his worthless opinion.

Had he substituted the term “thinly veiled racist clowns” for “clowns” he would have been more accurate.

Good for you Joe from Michigan! That doesn’t provide anything to a cohesive argument, but good for you!
