How bout those Bucs!!
With everything on the line, the Bucs came out and dropped a runny deuce on the field of The Licht House. No duck flew in to save them.
But someone found plenty of Imodium and Angel Soft and the Bucs found themselves in the fourth quarter.
Tampa Bay is 10-7 and NFC South champs for the fourth consecutive season!
Blame Todd Bowles. Blame Liam Coen (damn, what a time for a rough playcalling game). Blame the punter. Blame injuries. Blame the soft zone defense. Blame penalties. Blame whatever you want for the brutal start against a bad slimy Saints team.
“These unforced errors, you just can’t have those in these types of games,” Tom Brady said on the FOX broadcast.
It doesn’t matter. Baker Mayfield and Jalen McMillan pulled the Bucs out of their funk with fourth-down heroics — and then a touchdown bomb — on the early-fourth-quarter drive that gave the Bucs a 20-19 lead.
Yaya Diaby came to play with 4 tackles for loss and a sack. Zyon McCollum wasn’t perfect but he made some huge plays. The Bucs again got huge catches from backup tight ends Devin Culp and Payne Durham.
And what can Joe say about Mayfield. He was spectacular in the fourth quarter, on the ground and through the air.
Mike Evans even got his 1,000 yard streak on the game’s final play — and the $3 million bonus that came with it. Props to Bowles for risking the game a meaningless play.
It’s on to the playoffs!

Even though the game was won and he didn’t have to risk it, Bowles made the call to give Mike a shot. The safe thing to do would’ve been to kneel it. For me, this redeems the decision to accept the penalty last week. My opinion on his future for next year now rests on what happens in the playoffs. Let’s go, Bucs!

Criticism of Baker Mayfield has nothing to do with Trask. Baker played TERRIBLE for most of the game and was fortunate the Bucs D tightened up and he was able to play well enough to pull out the win.
But Baker is not beyond criticism. Dude had a total of 80 passing yards well into the 3rd quarter. He has to play better and more consistent for an entire game or this time will get quickly bounced from the playoffs.

Do we have to? We’re Buc fans. Does that make it improper to give credit where credit is due? Spencer Rattler was en fuego that first half making throws that Brady said were through such tight windows he wouldn’t even have attempted the pass.

Defense huge after interception and botched punt. I think that was key to winning this game. To win with our secondary injuries and new faces is amazing. Defensive line was great in second half.

Not true. I posted on here after Baker had some good games and said props to him he played well.
But I’m admittedly not a huge Baker fan.
Not only because I think Kyle Trask has a lot of upside potential and has gotten a raw deal of not getting to compete (the narrative about an open competition was most likely nonsense; they clearly made promises to Baker & his agent when he was signed). Kyle broke SEC records against many top corners that now play in the NFL.
I’m not a huge Baker fan because so many of his stats are FOOL’S GOLD. So many of his yards & TDs are in garbage time when we’re down by 2 scores. “Bad Baker” has cost us many wins this season, yet somehow many of you get angry if any criticism is stated about his inconsistent play and his often bouts of INACCURACY.
I think Baker is a tough competitor. He’s scrappy for sure and a helluva a competitor. He’s very tough with his scrambling and sacrficing his body during many runs. He really wants to win, that’s obvious. BUT… once again, I don’t think he’s an elite NFL QB. His QBR and other ‘fair’ data analysis show he’s not as good as his topline stats are and that’s a fact.
He’s incredibly inconsistent – more than most of the top QBs.

As for “Trask to the Future”… next year you’ll be rooting for where-ever Kyle decides to sit the bench… but sorry, Baker had 68 yards rushing today… if your OL is doing it’s job, that does not happen. The OL got their asses handed to them this game… Baker won the game for them today despite the OL.
And if they are gonna call “making a gun-like gesture”, which I have been watching football for over 40 years and have NEVER SEEN CALLED. My question is will the NFL review every game over the past 5 years and retroactively apply the penalties? Since similar gestures have been made on every 1st down celebration I’ve seen for the past 10 years… What a BS call. Glad McMillen showed them who’s boss on the next play!

I think this game was a bigger win because of the struggles. If it had been a walkover it would have been well the Saints suck anyway.
Bottom line is the Bucs OC was outcoached by the Saints DC, the first time this season I’ve ever seen a D seem to anticipate exactly what was being called. They seemed to know the plays as well as the Bucs!
Rattler was on fire hitting passes in tight windows that amazed Brady so much he said on at least one he and other vets wouldn’t have even attempted the pass.
This is not a new story. Sorry team with NOTHING to lose plays a more talented team with EVERYTHING to lose and the sorry team plays loose and relaxed. That was part of it but again it’s the first time I’ve seen a DC outduel Coen at least in the first half.

OK,,,,,you a saw a different game than I did. The Bucs had the ball for only 3 possessions in the first half because the defense allowed NO to have sustained clock eating drives. As it turned out the Bucs scored on 2 of the 3 first half possessions by kicking field goals. Hard to tell who got “outdueled” when the offense could barely get on the field.

As a Saints fan, I’m happy you guys won for two reasons. The first one is that we lost, so our draft position improves. Secondly the falcons cannot win the division. That is not acceptable.
But God you look like hot garbage the first half. You guys need to get it together before you play a team that isn’t mostly composed of practice squad players.

TTF take a pause. Do you realize on the day that the Bucks just won the fourth division championship in a row the second year with Baker Mayfield is the starting quarterback you’re complaining about a bench player who’s got like 36 seconds in a professional game. Save those fantasies for the off-season. Enjoy something that a lot of people don’t ever get to experience like me who comes here as a Cleveland Browns fan. Go Bucks.

This is exactly the point. You complain about his INACCURACY. YET he has a 71.8% completion percentage which only one quarterback in the entire history of NFL football has had higher, Drew Brees. Tom Brady and Mahomes have never even broken 70%, let alone 71.8%. And he didn’t out perform 71.8% until his 16th season. Bakers in his 8th. Complain all you want but don’t complain about obviously incorrect problems. INACCURACY and 71.8% is just too stupid to ignore. Be correct not totally bias.
