12 Years Since A Rookie QB Won A Playoff Game
January 9th, 2025Here’s one reason the Bucs are a 3-point favorite Sunday night against the Commanders at The Licht House.
One has to go back 12 years to find a rookie quarterback who won a road playoff game. His name is Russell Wilson.
In that 2012 season, the Seahawks handed the ball to their third-round draft pick and Wilson guided a balanced offense with a lockdown defense to a record of 11-5. Seattle went on the road to Washington on Wild Card weekend and beat another rookie QB, Robert Griffin III. Neither rookie QB had special stats.
On Sunday, the Bucs will host stud rookie QB Jayden Daniels and a Washington team that isn’t as good as that Seattle club of years ago.
Will Daniels be the first since Wilson to win on the road in the postseason? Per CBS, only three NFL rookie QBs have ever won a road playoff game.
The numbers show Daniels has played strong on the road this season.

Against Todd Bowles defenses, I fear mediocre backups like Cooper Rush and Marcus Mariota more than I do pro bowlers

I have no faith in Todd to shut down JD. Too many QB’s put up career days against us for it to be a coincidence.

I dont have much faith in defense… need to get off the field and or create some turnovers… not very good at either. I see Daniels moving the ball on some long drives. Bucs need to get opening kick, pound the rock, control the clock and play ball control with the lead hoping the defense can somehow stop this kid and the Washington offense. But I have a feeling Daniels will have a monster game. Should be higher scoring. I just hope Bucs score at least 1 more pt than Commanders and either move on too Philly or host winner of Rams/Vikes.

GREAT! Another record the Bucs’ defense can help break.
Baker & Co. will need to have a huge day for them to win this game.

JD rookie season started in Tampa and will end in Tampa.

Listen to Chris Sims, he has mentioned it 25 times already this week!, more 4 man Defensive fronts……

I like our chances since we have recent playoff experience and not as many Washington position players do. We also play at home. If we don’t get Winfield back, I will definitely be a bit worried. We will have to generate a ton of pressure on the QB and Daniel’s can’t keep getting first downs when we blitz. That will make it very hard.
Keep offensive time of position on our side, score early, weather our normal crappy second quarter, don’t let Washington score much in the first half and then, of course,.our defense suddenly becomes that of the 2001 Bucs in the second half.
If that all happens, Baker’s turnover free and no Bucs gets hurt…
Bucs win! …. Basically, just play good Bucs ball, limit penalties and mistakes and we’re good.

Daniels is scary good
When he runs he can be so dangerous
I fear this is a very tough matchup
January 9th, 2025 at 2:50 pm
That’s why we need to be in the lead.
Force him to make errant throws.
If he can check it down all game then he will do it. Must play man and force him to hold the ball and not scramble.
We have taken away the run in the last 3 games. Only 44 ypg against us.
If Daniels gets 100 yds we are screwed.

If LVD doesn’t play I will have a hard time believing they can win. Only way I will start believing they can is if it’s above 40 degrees at kickoff, we score a td on our 1st drive, never give up more than a 9 point lead and how many other odd records the Bucs, Bowles and Baker have set to prove they can’t win. I’m still hoping that since we dropped 40 on them last time and that their defense isn’t any better and definitely Baker and the offense are playing great that this game will end like the 1st one

Daniels has had a great year and rushed for a ton of yards. They put up 20 in his 1st game in the NFL against a healthy bucs defense and a defensive guru and on the road to boot. He isnt likely to be intimidated by the bucs defensive guru or the banged up defense at this point.
i like our chances but i hope to hell we win the toss….

Shaun King was the first rookie to a win a playoff game in 23-years when he beat the Redskins in 1999. I was at that game, and in the stadium it never felt the Bucs were in trouble. But man, I went home that night and rewatched the game, and on TV it felt like a nail biter – in particular the kick at end, that in the stadium felt about as likely to make as a hail mary. No idea why there was such a disconnect – it’s the only game I’ve ever been to that felt so different rewatching it.

I hate hearing these kind of stats lol like it somehow always does the opposite of re-assure me

Only 1-4 against playoff teams
January 9th, 2025 at 4:12 pm
I hope Daniels has nightmares about Via and Yaya bearing down on him.

This defense won’t hold up its all gonna be so n baker and co

Oh god, these stats are the worst.
How many times in our franchise history do we see these types of things when a team is playing the Bucs?
ABC player hasn’t throw a TD pass in 12 straight games – boom, TD pass right away.
XYZ team hasn’t rushed for over 100 yards in 2 seasons – boom, 100 rushing yards in the first half alone.
ABC player hasn’t caught a touchdown pass in his last 8 games – boom TD reception in the 2nd quarter.
Etc., etc. These types of stats / trends are always a jinx against the Bucs that we always seem to end for the opposing team.
No thank you.

Fear them,,, they need to fear us!!! Bucky over 100yards , White over 50 yards , wear them down , keep Jaden on the bench ,,, Clock Management (yikes) and ball control will get the W! Not to mention Baker normally plays well in playoffs 2-2 , Eagles , Steelers (W) Lions, Chiefs (L)

Todd’s D has been inconsistent, but have show. They’re capable of playing solid ball, even with backups. And he always has excellent game plans for the playoffs (except Dallas, but our team sucked anyways). I have faith. Go Bucs!!

That used to drive me crazy…but I think that particular streak has been over for a little while.

Two Things: 1. Thanks for the Jinx 2. You all know Home Team is given 3 pts. That means nuetral filed is a pick-em. Wash would be favored at their place.

Wow thats an amzing stat Joe! I would think that one or two of these every draft savior slash franchise QBs would have won one.
Go Bucs!
