“You Don’t Grade Well When You Have Two Interceptions”

December 12th, 2024

Tough talk.

The Bucs franchise quarterback got a little irked at the end of his postgame news conference on Sunday.

The final question of the slightly longer than usual session was a reporter asking Baker Mayfield how he feels when he gets to the sideline after an interception.

“Pissed off. Pissed off,” Mayfield replied. And that ended the news conference.

Mayfield then re-entered the locker room and expressed some annoyance about the question to a teammate.

Yes, the Bucs won and Mayfield is a winner as a Buccaneer, but there’s no cheerleading for quarterback play when there are two interceptions in game. That was Todd Bowles’ message on his official team radio show this week, not Joe’s message.

“Grade-wise, you don’t grade well when you have two interceptions. Regardless of whether you win or lose, you don’t grade well when you have two interceptions,” Bowles said of Mayfield’s game against the Raiders.

“But, we’re not going to play perfect football; it’s not made to be played perfect. But we play winning football, and he plays winning football.”

Joe had to chuckle hearing that. Joe can only imagine what Bowles thought of Jameis Winston and his 30 interceptions back in the 16-game 2019 season.

Bowles also critiqued the four sacks of Mayfield on Sunday and pointed a pinkie toward his QB.

“I thought two of them were coverage sacks,” Bowles said. “One of them they got back there, one time nobody was open. You know, trying to make things happen, you got to at least throw the ball away or find the outlet.”

Joe likes how Bowles loves Mayfield and is in his corner but isn’t afraid to be real publicly about the Bucs’ quarterback play.

Mayfield has the second-most interceptions in the NFL this season with 13, two less than Falcons savior Kirk Cousins.

Ya have to wonder why the question? Unless its from a Nickelodian Kids reporter working an angle on resilience or something? What does a reporter expect him to say? Meh…it’s no big deal? This is a dude that fights off Edge Rushers with straight arms. Or, fought off AN edge rusher with a straight arm. Bake and Jameis have that same affliction…they CAN make the throw. It’s what makes them enjoyable to watch. They play like mad men. Baker really seems to take winning to heart. As a fan, I feel he is one guy in the league who cares more than me, 3 beers in by halftime, whether they win. Jamel Dean? I dont think that guy thinks twice about it after the seasons over…Baker…he gives me the impression he is as mad as me when the season ends and they didn’t win out.

But I swear I feel Bake’s chances feel better to me than Jameis. Maybe because Bake marches the team down the field. Dink and dunk. Jameis would launch those beautiful deep strikes directly to the opposing backfield. In gambling it’s like betting $10 on 10 bets or $100 on one. I feel like I minimize my losses on 10 smaller bets. I think that’s why I’d rather watch Baker.

Bowles needs something else to complain about. I suggest he start with poor pass coverage, tackling and pass rush.

First Mayfield interception had absolutely ZERO impact on game because Bucs got the ball back on very next play when Raiders QB fumbled the snap. Mayfield’s fumble from the looks of things was unavoidable when 3 defenders poured through line and hit him simultaneously. Second INT was really bad throw and probably cost team at minimum a field goal. In any case Mayfield’s INT’s are all a part of his collective QB play and he is easily from a passing perspective in the top 5 statistically this season. Just check ESPN 2024 NFL QB passing stats to confirm.

Gipper. You blame everyone else when Baker Mayfield plays bad !! He’s been playing bad the past 2 weeks just say it it’s ok !!

So funny how the word “B O I S” spelled normally without spaces between each letter gets you moderated. Just further proof the Baker Brigade are a bunch of overly sensitive “men” who catch feelings real hard whenever ANYTHING and I mean anything is said derogatory about them or him. 🤣

  11. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Oneillbuc please stop your foolishness with that one. He had Dougie Martin at his best and still was America’s Turnover Machine. He’s an imbecile who can’t get out of his own way. He made bad decisions on and off the field. You are worse than the Baker fan b o i s with your crush on that guy. Why don’t you go be a Browns fan or something?

    DavidBigBucfan99,

Glad you are back posting your drivel. Parents and neighbors are relieved you aren’t hanging around playgrounds.

    __________

The year was 2015, Doug Martin ran for 1400 yards and JayMiss threw 15 INTs on a 6-10 season.

One INT and fumble you can lay at the feet of the O line and Coen. When the Raiders got the Bucs in a third and long situation they would send the house up the middle against the Bucs. Despite the fact Mayfield is an excellent thrower when running, Coen left him in the pocket like a sitting duck instead of rolling him out. Get a clue!

  15. drdneastup Says:

Wow, the Gainesville Traskyites have shown up with a vengence. They won’t be here next season when Trask signs with the Browns, Raiders or some other moth eaten team without a QB in hopes of finding a stupid front office that will give him a chance to start.

  16. Bartow Buc Says:

We were all watching the game, Bakers two interceptions were because the Raiders were sending the jailhouse, and he made bad decisions. The good thing is he and the team were able to overcome and dominate the Raiders.

Baker Mayfield is a winner, he has overcome adversity throughout his career and I am confident he will continue to overcome adversity for the rest of his career. That’s what I really like about Baker, he doesn’t implode when he makes mistakes. More often than not he overcomes his mistakes and finds a way to put the team in position to win.

I can’t wait to watch the game against the Chargers, is gonna be a battle !! I’ll be watching with my granddaughter, a huge Buccaneers fan!!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Chargers!!

  17. Caleb Says:

Bakers fumble play was on an all out blitz where he had Orton wide open as a hot read. He needs to get the ball out. Instead tries to play hero ball. That is on him.

  18. Mike C Says:

Still doesn’t change the FACT that you would blame any one or thing besides 3. “He didn’t have a run game” sounds like you are……making an excuse lol

  19. Mike C Says:

And wasn’t 3 supposed to be dominating us in NO for the next 10 years, your predictions are old milk bro, and wasn’t Brady going to fall on his face here? Yeah I think it was you who said that lol

  20. Mike C Says:

    Thank you dooosh

In David’s Meathead he must think that the very best QBs have no fans

Only QBs he doesn’t like do
