Win The Battle; Lose The War

December 29th, 2024

Potential bad omen.

If the following takes place, the Bucs will be fortunate to win this afternoon.

Per Seth Walder of BSPN, a man who never met a number he didn’t like, believes rookie receiver Jalen McMillan will light up the Stinking Panthers today.

And if that happens, Joe thinks it is a bad omen.

Bold prediction: Bucs wide receiver Jalen McMillan will record a season high in receiving yards (76 or more). He has 50-plus yards in each of his past three games. And at least part of the time against the Panthers he’ll face Michael Jackson, who is allowing 1.6 yards per route run — more than average for an outside corner, per NFL Next Gen Stats.

Here is why Joe dreads this: Since Chris Godwin got hurt, the Bucs are really, really bad against man-to-man defenses in the passing game (with the exception of Mike Evans).

Guess who actually is playing pretty well of late using man-to-man defense? The Stinking Panthers. So for McMillan to have a career afternoon, that tells Joe a couple of things.

1. The Bucs, foolishly, are going to try to throw their way to a win, very likely in the rain. Does anyone not remember how the Bucs needed a miracle by Anthony Nelson in Charlotte earlier this month to survive an overtime win?

2. If McMillan has a career afternoon, that tells Joe the Bucs need to throw because they are behind.

No, no, no. Joe doesn’t want to see this at all. Nothing against McMillan, but the only guy’s record the Bucs need to concern themselves with is Mike Evans’.

Other than that, the way the Bucs can pound the ball, that’s all they should be doing today.

It is likely to rain and lightning, Bucs need to run the ball and keep it up until the Panthers defense gets tired then keep doing it with intermittent passes to Evans and McMillan. I hope it rains and Panthers have to run the ball, our defense is good at one thing–stopping the run.

  2. Saskbucs Says:

Sorry Joe, I’m playing against him in my fantasy final. He going for 60-70+. Prolly on one catch to the house though. Don’t necessarily see it as bad thing for the Bucs but it’s happening.

  3. firethecannons Says:

Joe if I were you, I would trust your own intuition more than Seth Walder of BSPN. You know more about all of it then any of these clowns. Walder probably thinks Evans will be doubled so naturally McMillan will get all the targets. He is not factoring in weather and last Panther game Bucky stats. Dallas game did not involve much run game so Walder thinks it will be more air game here as well. Certain that Coen wants to get the run game going against Panthers team specifically and in this weather specifically.

  4. GoneGator Says:

J-Mac has clearly moved into the WR #2 spot.
Nothing at all negative about him getting 76 yards or more IMO.

He’s going to be a VERY important part of our offense going forward

I am with you on this one Joe. Not for the exact same reasons. McMillan is not CG for one. If we are relying on this rookie’s abilities to save the day, we are ignoring our own team abilities. Running game, OC who can create, screen game that looks unstoppable at times. Mike needs yet another career day for us this week. Baker when he is on his “A game”. BTW what happened to White getting loose out of the backfield?

Canales knows our defensinve weaknesses and we have to find a way to minimize those. Not sure we can pull that off with this bunch of dudes. One thing for sure. We can’t spot them 14 points and spend the rest of the day “keeping it close”.

    Go Bucs

McChillen seems to be coming of age as the season wears on…

    good to see

  7. Stanglassman Says:

I doubt it rains and don’t believe they will go pass heavy.

Could be wishful thinking cause I would love Bucky to go off today. I need a big game from him to win my fantasy league. 😉

  8. heyjude Says:

Hoping Mike breaks the record today along with the win. Bucky could soar today too.

  9. Gbobucsfan Says:

I believe Horn is out..does that mean M Jackson will be covering Mike now ?

  10. Bucsfan Says:

Just run the ball for 250

  11. BigMacAttack Says:

Warm Rain is better than Ice Cold and Snow. The rain should move through by Game time. The field is probably covered and the field should be favorable for a high scoring Mayfield offense to light it up. Evans needs just over 180 yards to hit the mark which could just happen today. I look for the Bucs to come out on fire. Mayfield with 3+ TDs and Bucky over 150 yards. No excuses today, play like you can play behind the best Offensive line in the NFL. Smokem if you gottem babe!

  12. Jeffs grandpa Says:

Rain will be gone by beginning of 2nd quarter

  13. Woodenman Says:

They don’t cover this field it has one of the best drainage system of any field in the NFL

  14. Jethro Tull Says:

Win the game by any means necessary. Any. Means. Necessary.

  15. Mike Says:

I’m good either way, as long as we are finding a way to win this game.

  16. infomeplease Says:

Mostly RUN and PASS TO ME13, PROTECT THE BALL, PROTECT THE BALL, PROTECT THE BALL, and SCORE! REPEAT!

  17. infomeplease Says:

    IMHO

  18. KABucs Says:

I’m okay with it if we’re trouncing them. In other words 200+ on the ground and M1E3 over 100 w/ 1-2 TDs as well as a good day for Jalen.

  19. KABucs Says:

I know the Bucs are capable of a trouncing, they could also lose. Depends on which team shows up.

  20. BAKERSBucs says Says:

I read these post u r telling the world the play calls plz leave it to the pros u ain’t the pros if they listened to u we wud b 3&12

  21. BAKERSBucs says Says:

what team shows up? I think u r posting on the bucs site moron!

  22. BAKERSBucs says Says:

    BABE?

  23. Larrd Says:

Run the ball well and they’ll likely get a few long pass plays. It’s all good!

  24. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

If we don’t score 1st then we’ll be playing from behind the whole game. Coen will forget he has Irving and Baker thinking he has to do it all will force the issue to the tune of holding the ball too long creating sack fumbles and interceptions. Being that Carolina will be the only improved team in this game it’s going to be a hard win because of Blowels wet tissue defense makes all qbs look all world. It’s a shame because it’s a good chance Baker will throw for at least 3tds.

  25. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Jethro Tull your post gives me thoughts of a scene from the Last Boy Scouts. If you got money on the game, pull out your S&W and clear the field.

  26. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

bakersBUCS you got the nerve to clown a Bucs fan for using the word babe and you follow a grown man around the NFL like he’s your babe/boo/boyfriend, even having his name in ALL CAPS as your screen name. Get out of here fanboi you non Bucs fan. Always remember if it wasn’t for the Bucs he’d been watching football the last two years. He was washed and no one wanted him. Only a moron of a head coach who gave the GOAT his only losing season was forced to snatch
