Will It Be Third-Stringer Desmond Ridder Against The Bucs?

December 5th, 2024

UPDATED: 4:22 p.m. — It seems there’s a chance the Bucs could face their second third-string quarterback in three games on Sunday at The Licht House.

Rumblings from Raiders practice today, per ProFootballTalk.com, say backup QB Aidan O’Connell, the projected starter versus Tampa Bay, wasn’t on the field.

The official injury report popped about 4:15 p.m. and it says O’Connell did not practice at all today due to an “illness.”

Last week, O’Connell returned from a broken thumb and weeks on the injured reserve list to start against the Chiefs. There is no mention of the thumb on the current injure report.

O’Connell got the starting job in September after No. 1 QB Garnder Minshew broke his collarbone.

  1. Rickrose Says:

With this defense, does it really matter? Bucs need to out score every opponent ti win. Todd Bowles defense is crap.

  2. orlbucfan Says:

Hey Rickrose, what brought you here? Boredom? You sure aren’t a Bucs fan so your opinion is worthless. See ya later……loser.

  3. SB Says:

Ive been reading this site almost since it’s inception.
Gatrbuc used to be my handle.
I rarely even comment anymore much less read the comments since for the most part it’s just a bunch of petulant teenage attitudes that post

  4. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol @ Rick rose. “Bucs need to outscore every opponent to win”…….. no Sh*t sherlock, thats the only way to win. Someone take this guy android away

  5. #99 the big fella Says:

Rickrose , that was the dumbest statement anyone could make. You get the grand prize this week. You win a new crayon book and crayons

  6. SB Says:

Rickrose is the epitome of what’s wrong with the world. Stating the obvious like they invented the concept.

  7. SB Says:

Jeeeesh Joe, gatrbuc is still taboo?
That was like 8 yrs ago that you banned that name and we’ve had Many convos since.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

The QB against the Bucs does not matter. Mickey Mouse can beat our Defense. We gotta bring it and Baker has to be on point and not start slow. Because we all know….No Matter..The Raiders will score on us. We just have to score more.

  9. miken Says:

He is the worst qb in the nfl but……He beat us last year

  10. Bring back the lawn chairs Says:

Yes the mighty Desmond Ritter almost beat us twice last year. With the DB’s hiding in the tunnel with that famous Tampa 2 lawn chair on most coverages who couldn’t beat this defense?

  11. Bill in Seminole Says:

Don’t get over your skis. Second and third-string QB’s have been successful against us for as long as I can remember. In the game against the Panthers, Bryce Young had plenty of time to throw…he looked all-pro at times.

  12. David Pear Says:

Ridder roasted the Todd twice last year, magical especially the last two minutes (what a surprise). Game 2 he was three yards from winning the game as time ran out.

I’d rather face Norm Snead. While he’s dead, he could still pose a threat, just not as much as these other scrubs.

  13. EEK Says:

Desmond Ritter played great football against this D last year.
Minshew would have thrown for 400 yards so at least it won’t be him

  14. BMOC24601 Says:

Gardner got injured in November not September.

  15. Pewter Power Says:

Desmond Ridder loves Todd Bowles defense

  16. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Free Gatrbuc.

  17. Allbuccedup Says:

Bucs lose to a third string QB with a horrible raiders team he doesn’t deserve to be a coach in the NFL. Just saying!!!

  18. Kgh4life Says:

Doesn’t matter who the Raiders start at QB. The Bucs defense consistently makes mediocre to average QBs look elite.

  19. Scotty Mack Says:

Never heard of an NFL QB not playing because he is sick (never heard of that happening with any player, actually).

O’Connell will play and this is a non-story.

  20. Scotty Mack Says:

I agree that the Bucs defense sucks this year. Although my immediate reaction is to blame Bowles, our defense has been decimated by injuries pretty much all year.

We are still emerging from salary cap hell and can’t afford top-level starters, let alone 2nd, 3rd and 4th string backups.

All that said, there isn’t a team on the schedule (including the Chargers) that the Bucs shouldn’t beat, regardless of how bad our defense is.

  21. Slacker Says:

So rickrose apparently isn’t a true fan just because he states the obvious that the defense is trash? True fans can’t state the facts? True fans can’t say anything negative about the team? Please show me the book stating the rules of being a true fan

  22. Day 1-76 Says:

All they have to do against the bowles defense is throw it in the middle 15 yds. downfield, and they will be successful. I’ve never seen someone waste talent like him.

  23. Jonny Says:

Ridder is 2-1 against Bowles. And the one loss was a very very close loss.

  24. MadMax Says:

Ridder will look like a pro bowl QB if todd refuses to play man

  25. BakerBucs says Says:

Dave pear & Rick rose must b relatives this site sucks anymore not much reason to come support this team with poster people like these losers these jokers have to b democ(rats)

  26. BakerBucs says Says:

watch every football game in the NFL all teams throw 15 yds down the middle & have success did u watch lions & packers tonite that concept was on full display u morons 31to34 down the middle someone has to win

  27. Vancouver Buc Says:

    Slacker…well said.

  28. Darin Says:

Scottmack. You’re not Adam schefter. Just because who don’t hear about it doesn’t mean it doesn’t happen. Happens quite a bit every season

Ahhhh, I don’t think so. Bucs D has been hit by injuries practically every game it seems. Plus, genuine fans are objective but it means they point out POSITIVE aspects, too. Whoever this Slacker is, they’re no fan. Bucs won a SB in their own crib 4 years ago. They’ve won the NFCSo. the last 3. They came close to beating NFC powerhouse Detroit in Motown in the playoffs last year. They are the only Lions’ loss, so far, this year. They are the walking wounded and still 6-6. What I’ve done is define a true fan. Joes, take heed as there are a lot of fans really complaining and leaving here cos of the constant negative.

  30. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Ahhhh Orlbucfan you don’t think, so what’s new. Who died and made you the poster child for what a true Buc fan is??? Ain’t you an honorary member of the Baker Brigade??? Because those guys came over last year and hijacked this blog board with their incessant hate spewed speech against all who dare to point out anything and I mean anything not praising their holy and majestic idol regardless of how poorly he plays. There are some so called Buc fans who love him more than the team. So let them guys be Buc fans in their own way even if it’s stating the obvious and not according to your unreasonable version of Buc fannerism. You sit on the edge of the seat of being a fashist with your rhetoric

  31. PassingThru Says:

Aidan O’Connell is expected to play Sunday. That’s not good news. O’Connell isn’t a franchise QB but in my opinion he’s more of an upset threat than Minshew and Ridder. I watched O’Connell a few times when he was at Purdue. He runs hot and cold. When he’s hot he’s a chain mover who is very accurate at the short and intermediate levels. He has the arm but not the accuracy to hit receivers on deep passes. He has lead feet and is not someone you need to worry about running.

  32. GoneGator Says:

Read some stuff by Pierce. Expect some deep shots. They think their young guys are coming on and Aiden has a good arm (I was surprised he wasn’t their starter this year – looked more promising than Minshew to me) and they know our secondary is hurt and struggling.

  33. Scotty Mack Says:

Sure wish there was a way to bet Darin that O’Connell will play. You don’t need to be “Adam Schefter” to know that a player who is sick on Thursday is not at risk of missing a Sunday game.

  34. RASH Says:

Rick Rose….there are 12 step programs for Gaytor idiots….Kyle Trask still buying your breakfast?
