Will Home Cooking Return?

December 8th, 2024

No, Joe is not resurrecting the “Den of Depression” nickname for the Bucs’ home turf on Dale Mabry Highway, the cathedral now known pridefully as The Licht House.

The Bucs didn’t have a winning record at home in any season from 2009 through Bucco Bruce Arians’ first year in 2019. And the nickname evolved while the Bucs lost every home game in 2015, including tanking that season’s finale to secure the draft rights to Jameis Winston.

Joe vowed to retire “Den of Depression” the moment the Bucs had a winning record in Tampa in a given season. That joy arrived January 3, 2021.

However, the importance of winning at home hasn’t changed. Arians preached it and strong teams generally find an edge from the support of home fans and by avoiding travel.

So Joe is extra eager today to see how the Bucs respond on their home turf. Why? Because Tampa Bay has a 2-4 record at home this season and hasn’t played before the Bucs faithful since Nov. 10.

Home cooking should matter.

Joe expects it will for today’s 1 o’clock kickoff against the Raiders.

The Bucs were 4-4 on Tampa soil during the 2022 and 2023 regular seasons. They’ve got three games remaining at home to get to 5-4 for 2024: Raiders, Saints and Panthers.

Joe–forgot to ask this on the Mike Evan’s Walter Payton nominee post. Mike has now been our nominee four times. On the podcast, could you ask Ira if accolades like Walter Payton Man of the Year nominations have any affect when it comes to Hall of Fame voting? Like if a candidate is not a lock to get in, does having strong character off the field, being involved in the community, etc. help sway voters to vote “Yes” to induction.

I was at the 49er game. It was the den of depression. Bowles seems to be at .500 home, and away. Should be winning at least 6 home games every season. Bucs home record is still depressing. Hoping to be one game above .500 at home is sad.

Alright Tampa, you have a Young team (2nd youngest in the league) in the Hunt for a division crown. Give these kids a break, and a helping hand, many are learning on the job. So L F G tampa bring the energy, bring the noise and help our boys!!! Need the Fans Today! Do your job!

  4. Mike C Says:

Yeah Hodad, bet you were one of the lame Os sitting on your hands

Is that Ryan Jensen on the left side of the title pic? Knee brace and all?

    Go Bucs!

  8. TampaBayBucFan Says:

It happens to be Raymond James Stadium…..they pay for that. Just because they don’t pay Joe to mention them is petty.
Joe mentions other stadiums not affiliated with the Bucs & I suspect none of them pay him for that.

  9. Pewter Power Says:

It is den of depression under Bowles and even season ticket holders are in denial. I should be confident in this game but we’re at home and being 2-4 at home.

We won 4 games last year against Jaguars, Bears, Panthers, Titans for trash teams so looks like we’ve been here before but hey for the positive spin we have 2 games left to match the Todd 4 game win total and home and go ding ding ding ding mediocre .500 at home

  10. PewterStiffArm Says:

I’ve been saying this for years. This team not having any home field advantage, period. Tampa fans sell their tickets, low energy enthusiasm and crappie mojo. This all translates into a guessing game for any outcome played in this stadium. Lousy coaching always amounts to garbage production, let’s see what shows up this afternoon.

Bucs have NEVER had a real home field advantage.

That’s just the reality of pro sports teams in Florida.

  12. John Sinclear Says:

Fan support would be nice! No empty seats, no seats occupied by enemy troops?

  13. BillyBucco Says:

If you live in Detroit, going to a football game is pretty much all you have to do.
The reality of Florida is Northern transplants who still love their teams.
Plus there are beaches and women who don’t look like men.
Unless we get a pull like Bill B, TRUE Bucs fans are going to sell their tickets and make money.
This team needs to WIN, to ever have even close to a home field advantage, and under Bowles they simply don’t. He is good for a lose 4 out of 5 every year.
    He has to go!!!!!

  14. David S Pear Says:

Expect Raider Nation to outnumber Bucs fans. This will be the case until The Change .

  15. al Says:

no one calls it the leitch house or ever will…..unless he is being paid to do so.

  16. Mike C Says:

    David pare, wrong again.
