Tristan Wirfs On His Way To All-Pro Honor?

December 7th, 2024

Dominant again.

Though allowing a sack is not an official NFL statistic, Joe seemed to think early this season Bucs left tackle Tristan Wirfs gave up a sack.

Again, sacks allowed by linemen are not an official stat. A couple of guys have tried to guess on who to blame for those stats, but that’s what that is. A guess.

(As an NFL general manager once told Joe, an offensive lineman’s assignment is not known to fans on particular play. Fair.)

Over at Mike Tannenbaum’s outfit, “The 33rd Team,” NFL analyst and high school coach Tyler Brooke seems to believe he has a handle on offensive line stats. And one is very good for Wirfs.

Brooke is of the mind that Wirfs is having one of the best years of any offensive lineman in the NFL. So much so Brooke thinks Wirfs will be selected as an All-Pro next month.

Tristan Wirfs is the only OT with less than 10 Pressures allowed this season (7) that has had 400+ pass blocking snaps 🛡️

A literal human shield.

Brooke also notes that his information suggests Wirfs has yet to give up a sack this fall.

Regardless, Wirfs is a monster. He’s worth every penny.

Because of Wirfs and right tackle Luke Goedeke’s return missing four games with a concussion, the Bucs’ offensive line has developed into a force.

With Wirfs and Goedeke, the Bucs may have the best tackles duo in the league.

  1. OR Buc Says:

Tristan is the best, hands down.

Joe, the Bucs got a new rookie punter that looks like a great prospect. Wink wink.

  2. MadMax Says:

Told you try him at LT 🙂

  3. adam from ny Says:

tristan & the glass eater are the best book end combo in the nfl…

and if barton develops, the line will be ultra stable for the foreseeable future…

mauch and bredeson seem good, but if either flees or flops, you mix and max in the future – as long as the main 3 are stabilizing things (wirfs, goedeke, barton)

  4. adam from ny Says:

and hopefully you keep the versatile back up hainsey on emergency call

First thing I look at was the play itself Joe. If the QB runs arouond for twenty seconds behind the LOS and then gets nailed it is stll a sack but damn!

Bakers sacks this year are mostly on him. He just does not throw the ball away much. Our guys can’t hold these guys off forever. The other thing is when the QB fails to see the free running blitzer. Who is that on? These days it’s on the center for not calling the right protections but the QB still has to check plays down. Last week Baker got our O line hung out to dry for not checking down. Sometimes it’s obvious when a lineman gets beat but sometimes it is not on the line at all.

I am sure all of our O line loved Brady because he rarely held on to the ball and almost always knew what the defense was up to.

    Go Bucs!

  6. dmatt Says:

Correct me if I’m wrong but I thought I saw Wirf switch over to the right side of the line on a few design plays in the game against the Panthers.🤔

  7. Show Me the TDs Says:

And yet JBF readers had to scroll past hundreds upon hundreds of articles telling us how risky this move was. I would guess that more than 95% of readers knew better and didn’t take the bait, AKA, “click”.

  8. Hodad Says:

dmatt, what you saw was him pulling to the right. The Bucs are getting good at pulling both their guards, and tackles to either side. Mix in the big, agile center Barton, and this line is moving people in any direction they want. If this O line stays together in this system next year, they’ll get to that elite level.

  9. heyjude Says:

Good company for Wirf’s to be named with.

Bucky should have been named under running backs. Brooke only listed one player.

Mike Evans should have been on the list of wide receivers too.

  10. ChiBuc Says:

Joe don’t jinx those guys. Remember when you were crowing that “the Bucs may have the best SAFETY duo in the league?” Look where that defensive tandem sits now. It’s been a while, but I think you may have said the same about D White and David.

  11. TB Says:

We clearly have the best tackles in the NFL and it’s not close

  12. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Hmmmm…how is he doing in Pro Bowl voting? Something like 10th? Yes….I know I know about Pro Bowl Voting.

  13. I may be crazy but Says:

I think Wirfs has only had one penalty this year and that was a bogus penalty.

  14. Let ‘em bake Says:

Madmax, make a recommendation to move someone to edge rusher, maybe your Midas touch will strike gold again… that position needs something😊

  15. GoneGator Says:

Shout out to Tristan and all his dawg brothers up front 🤘🏼.

  16. Jeffs grandpa Says:

But but but he shouldn’t of moved to LT because he was so good at RT right Joe
