Todd Bowles Discusses Walking Wounded Including Jamel Dean, Cade Otton And Antoine Winfield

December 31st, 2024

Discusses injured starters.

It’s Week 18, the final week of the regular season. As one can imagine after 16 games the Bucs have some guys beat up. What team doesn’t?

So yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles remarked about three hurt starters and a healthy former starter and his status.

Jamel Dean on Sunday suffered what the Bucs’ media relations department classified as a “bilateral knee injury,” which is an injury to both knees. Bowles had no update.

Bucs tight end Cade Otton has missed the last two games with a knee injury.

Of Otton’s status, Bowles said the team likely won’t know until the end of the week how Otton is responding to treatment.

“He’ll work through the week and once we see progress, we’ll make that determination probably Friday or Saturday,” Bowles said.

Also, Bowles hasn’t yet written off safety Antoine Winfield for the win-and-in finale against the slimy Saints.

“He’s getting better,” Bowles said. “Again, I have to see him run a little bit more before I make that decision.”

And lastly, since the Bucs re-signed sacks king Shaq Barrett, Bowles didn’t rule him out from suiting up and hitting the field to get his sea legs back.

“Yeah, we’ll consider it,” Bowles said. “We have to see how his practice week goes as well.”

How awesome would it be if all four could return for Sunday?

We’ll get through this unless Todd fs it up…but so far against teams we’re supposed to beat, we’re hanging in there i guess

    We got this…Players got this…Coen got this….they know….from trailer park HQ….word! lol

So everyone is good to go we just don’t want to share this with our opponents!

if we’ve gotta deal with detroit or minnesota…

    please let it be minnesota…

they’ve often had inflated record seasons, and have been a quick out in the playoffs…

detroit is a team we probably don’t beat twice in a season…

minnesota and spam darnold are ready to play the role of choke artist…

also bowles can dial up some defensive wizardry to stump and knock darnold off his game…

bring on the vikings out of those 2

Wishing the best for Otten, Winfield, and Dean. Love to see Shaq on the field. He will bring a lot of joy to the Bucs and we fans being back home.

  5. gotbbucs Says:

Shaq might help from an emotional standpoint, but he’s washed.

Rather leave Otton and Winfield in the training room and get them healthy for the playoffs.
Dean, I couldn’t care less at this point what they do with him. If his dodgy knees are the excuse for his poor play then so be it, but he isn’t doing anything helpful on the field right now. He was stiff before this knee problem, now he looks like he’s running on stilts.

  6. Tony Says:

    @AdamFromNY

We’d probably end up getting Shawn Hochuli in that game as the ref because just like his dad they both seem to hate the Bucs.

  7. heyjude Says:

gotbbucs – Politely, Shaq is not washed as an athlete. He lost a child. It’s one of the most horrific things a parent can go through. You never heal from it but put your energy into so much more. Shaq will be a force on the team.

  8. Lightningvinny Says:

Shaq will help the team get sacks again,,, Not from just himself but by guys giving a little extra to get that extra playing time ,,,, Kind of like how White runs a little harder , a little better since Bucky got here

  9. PhxBucsFan Says:

I hope we don’t get up by 3 and go into a prevent defense in the first quarter.

  10. Steven Says:

    Any update on Chris Godwin?

  11. bhbucforlife Says:

Tony, I can’t believe you said that. My wife and I have said since the 90’s that Sr. Hochuli did not like us and now Shawn looks like he has the same feelings for the Bucs.

  12. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

I think the expectations of what Shaq will bring should be tempered, but no reason to think he can’t help.

He’s fresh, over a year removed from his Achilles injury and he is motivated. The Dolphins signed him for a reason.

Not saying anything bad about the kid because he’s a rookie and will learn, but there is no reason he can’t be better than what we’re getting from Braswell.

With all due respect this is selective revisionist history. “Again?!” Shaq had gotten double digit sacks in only 2 seasons his entire career (2019 – 19.5 &2021 – 10). The rest of the time he’s hovered around 5 sacks per season… Logan hall numbers. I know the pedestal was built high in 2019 and most have been looking up since, but the guy has been pretty washed the last 2 years (3 if you count this year).

Regarding R. White: I think Coen. his offensive scheme, and the revamped Oline have more to do with White’s increased yards per carry than Bucky.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

Bucs only let Shaq go because of salary cap? Why could he not cut it in Miami? Some people are undoubtedly some of the best Bucs fans around and some of the most clueless unrealistic. He hasn’t played A single snap in 2024. Some people are going to say he’s washed after this game and some are going to say he just needs time but stop with the dramatics at the same time though he’s probably gonna give a mental boost. I really do hope he gets a sack it would fire up that sideline

  15. Lightningvinny Says:

What I was saying was guys push each other and because of Bucky , White has to fight for his playing time , it brings out better , not as much dancing though the hole ,,, As far as putting Shaq on a pedestal ,,, well any guy that can sack Mahomes in a Super Bowl and help the Bucs win it,,, I guess he will always be on that pedestal to me

  16. Jmarkbuc Says:

Deans bilateral knee injury is related to his games played ratio.

Likes to cash the checks. Doesn’t like to work.

  17. ModHairKen Says:

Shaq completely healthy and rested. No dings. No nagging bruises. No sore muscles. No shin splints or plantar fasciitis.

    Fresh. Hungry. Energetic.

    Who says he’s “washed”?

    We shall see.

  18. unbelievable Says:

Honestly I’d let all those guys rest up besides Shaq. Gotta get him some snaps at game speed to see whether he can still rush the passer at all.

We should be able to beat the Saints without Winfield and Otton. Rather those guys be closer to full strength for the playoff game.

  19. #1bucsfan Says:

I think more important is getting those guys back against the aints so that they can get a little bit more in game shape. Shake the rust off and get ready hopefully for a playoff home game. Unfortunately even for these pro athletes it takes a few games to get back into game shape
