Todd Bowles Details Who Is Not Playing And Who May Not

December 13th, 2024

Who won’t play Sunday?

The Bucs wrapped up Friday practice with no surprises as to who won’t play.

Bowles explained that safeties Antoine Winfield and Mike Edwards along with inside linebacker K.J. Britt are out for Sunday’s game in the City of Angels against the Chargers.

What will be interesting is who may not play. Bowles said running back Bucky Irving and defensive back Christian Izien are questionable. Bowles added that Irving and Izien will get a test run on the turf of SoFi Stadium to see if they can suit up.

In other words, gametime decision.

Joe would seriously worry about not having any (decent) safeties to battle Justin Herbert, but Herbert himself is beat up.

Chargers coach Jim Harbaugh said he expects Herbert to play but that doesn’t mean the talented veteran isn’t hobbled with an injured left leg as well as a sprained left ankle, both suffered last week in a loss to the Chiefs.

If Bucky can’t go, Coen needs to use Tucker on more than 3 or 4 runs. White is improving but against a very high quality defensive line there will be opportunities to run outside which Tucker has proven he can break through with his speed.

Don’t have any issues with giving White his usual workload but at least for this game if Irving can’t go, give your bigger and faster back some opportunities to make some big plays.

  2. Danny Cuebas Says:

If Sean Tucker can’t figure out how to pass protect, he won’t see the field on Sunday. He missed that block that caused the sack fumble on Baker. Bucky better be ready.

  3. GoneGator Says:

I’m more concerned with Izien than Bucky.

We should still be able to run the ball with White and Tucker but good God who’s left to plug in @ safety?

  4. Bucsfan Says:

If Bucs can get through this game without suffering any additional injuries and somehow beat Chargers that would be beyond huge.

  5. First Name Greatest Says:

Even fully healthy this is a coaching mismatch for Short Bus Todd.

Harbaugh is going to crush and confuse Todd so much that he might even use a timeout

  6. BucU Says:

I’m not holding my breath for a win Sunday in Ca. that’s for sure.

  7. Buc4evr Says:

Herbert doesn’t need to do anything but sit in the pocket and go deep. With No edge rush, no Safeties, no LBs, he could be on crutches and it wouldn’t matter. This could be brutal if Bowles doesn’t find a way to get to Herbert and soft zone won’t work.

  8. IrishTony Says:

I believe with this scheme and our above par run blocking whoever’s back there should do well. Please Coen don’t draw anything up that has Mayfield dropping back!

  9. IrishTony Says:

Herbert is not dropping back and throwing deep in this new scheme. That’s why he only has 14 tds and 1 int.

  10. Sharkiebucfan Says:

Joe, your adds make it impossible to read your content via mobile device. Figure it out.

  11. Let em bake Says:

Like Palmer, his playing time limited because of lack luster blocking . If palmers not holding, he’s making a business decision.

  12. unbelievable Says:

I think we will be okay without Bucky, but no Izien is really gonna stretch our DBs thin… not sure we can overcome that, even with a “hobbled” Herbert…

  13. Bucfan1988 Says:

I’ve just never seen anything like the injury plague that the Bucs Have dealt with this season….

We had like 19 guys on the report at the start of the week….

All of our starting safeties are out.
Jamel Dean is pure garbage now with his ridiculous 10 yard cushions..
We have 1 healthy aging LB left…

Even though Herbert Hasn’t really opened up the passing game this year much, I expect there will be a major change in this game.
Jim Harbaugh is a VERY smart coach And I’m sure he will test this depleted secondary multiple times.

I wish I knew what to do about Bucky Irving this weekend.
    Starting fantasy football playoffs.
I actually own both Bucky & Rashaad.
I’ve been playing them both For the last several weeks.
The situation with Bucky cost me the #1 seed in my fantasy league last week..

Now I’m trying to figure out what to do this weekend.
Most likely gonna play just Rashaad and bench Bucky.
I don’t think I can gamble another week.

Can’t believe the levels of Sean Tucker delusion present here. Didn’t the guy fumble twice in like 5 carries? Isn’t he still bad at pass blocking?

You’re not putting a WR on the field that can’t run blocking unless he’s otherworldly. Same goes for RBs.

  16. DungyDance Says:

49ers are releasing De’Vondre Campbell, apparently because he refused to play after being demoted. With our linebacker situation, it sure seems like he could get that starting gig back instantly with us. Wonder how much $ though.

  17. richbucsfan Says:

Herbert could be using a walker and still avoid Bucs edge rushers and overall pass rush. He’ll carve up the secondary like a Christmas turkey. Either this or the Bucs might keep it close, but in the end the Bucs come up short.

  18. Kenton Smith Says:

ReenYeung, I think you are wrong about Tucker. Sometimes veteran RBs miss picking up a block. One of those 2 fumbles resulted in a turnover. He’s not as electric of a running back as Bucky but not many backs in the league are. But if Bucky sits out the next two or three games we’re going to find ourselves in a very very good position entering the postseason. In his own way Tucker is every bit the football player Bucky is. Gets to play one game and is the NFC offensive player of the week. By far our fastest back getting to the edge. Runs after catch looks like a second Rachaad. Yes he’s good-really good. And soon we’ll all be talking about him.

  19. GoneGator Says:

    @Kenton Smith
I hope you’re right about Tucker – I’ve been on the fence concerning him.
Fast and explosive definitely…. haven’t seen enough though to say he should get more touches. Can he block?

If Bucky is banged up we should rest him. Let Rachaad pound it with Tucker in the 2 spot. Key is going to be the O-line regardless of who’s back there.

  20. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Dungydance? Seriously?

  21. Jethro Tull Says:

Todd’s got this. Haters be on notice.

  22. DungyDance Says:

    Jmarkbuc – desparate times.

  23. Beeej Says:

Remember all the noise about Haason R? 2 sacks, 7 tackles

  24. BigBucsFan Says:

For all of y’all downing the Todd bowles defense and how our defense will suck getting to the quarterback especially compared to and boasting for the chargers defense. If you take a look there’s only two maybe three sacks separating the two teams maybe we don’t have outside rushers but the inside guys and the random linebacker ,defensive back bullet that gets shot in is keeping up with the league on sacks. And we all know the injuries hit to linebacker and d-backs and we’re still hanging with this league, let alone our division, as always let’s go Bucs
