Todd Bowles Credits Lavonte David Halftime Speech

December 10th, 2024

Joe already wrote about Lavonte David setting a league speed mark Sunday against the Raiders.

But his strong game was about more than one play.

The 2024 Bucs’ leading tackler and iconic linebacker had a complete game — on and off the field.

“The sack was huge, the fumble [recovery] was huge — everything he did from a tackling standpoint, a leadership standpoint and an energy standpoint,” head coach Todd Bowles told the Buccaneers Radio Network today. “Even at halftime, coming out of the locker room, he was huge with a halftime speech. And everything just flowed right along; everybody falls right in line.”

David is reserved around media, but is fiery with teammates. So the rousing halftime speech doesn’t surprise Joe. However, the Bucs didn’t exactly come out strong in the third quarter, but hey, speeches are fun and can be motivating later in a game, too.

Bowles praised David’s first-quarter sack on which he wasn’t blocked, noting David’s standout acceleration. And Bowles sort of implied that he liked how David didn’t pull a Devin White.

“I’ve seen a lot of people miss those,” Bowles said of blitz-sack.

David is great at disguising blitzes, Bowles added, in addition to beating running backs and creating havoc when he does.

Lavonte is a true inspiration and we are lucky to still have him. He will be a Bucs ring of honor and Hall of Famer. I hope he’s a Buc for life

Evans throwing helmets to light a fire in the defense and LVD is giving inspirational speeches. How does Bowles motivate this team?

  3. orlbucfan Says:

LVD along with ME13 and Will Gholston have stuck it out here with the Bucs when the team was (again) the laughingstock of the League. Or ignored. Either one is an insult. Mike and Lavonte will be honored in Canton. Will is respected and honored by fans like me. I’m glad Mike and Lavonte are raising h3ll. Bowles respects them, and vice versa. 4, 5, 6 wins in a row? Why the h3ll not?! Go get the Chargers, Bucs!!

  4. Pewter Power Says:

Geez imagine Todd Bowles defense of Licht decided not to resign lavonte David. We’d be just about last in just about every statistical category there is sort of like the chargers offense

  5. adam from ny Says:

maybe lavonte went into bowles & licht’s offices and said:

    “get me a f’in linebacker…now!”

    🙂

i mean come on…….he can’t do it alone

  6. Day 1-76 Says:

Bowles definitely needs to give the credit to others because he deserves none.

  7. Just a guy Says:

Love LvD and hope that he comes back for one more year at least regardless how this season plays out. That dude is this generations of Brian Urlacher as far as I’m concerned.

In other news, JPP declares himself ready for business

  9. heyjude Says:

    Big kudos to Lavonte!

I remember reading that he also wanted more communication and defense dinners too. Seems as though Mike, Lavonte, Chris, and others are trying to raise the team up on and off the field and get to another SB. Loving the passion!

  10. Bucsfan Says:

    Bring JPP and Suh back

  11. BucU Says:

Almost 35 yrs old and still ballin out. LD is special. I have so much respect for him as a person and a football player. I think he, Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs are the only Bucs that I’ve never had a bad word to say about. I’d like all of them to stay on as coaches when they retire from playing.

  12. Bucsfan Says:

    ME13 too

  13. #1bucsfan Says:

Def LVD is one of the greats. Right up there with the great DB55. LVD will for sure don the gold jacket. He deserves it and has earned it

  14. Buccup Says:

Wasn’t Joe throwing shade at Lavonte earlier this year, saying he was looking old?? It was very disgraceful to criticize one of the all-time greats like that! He’s simply amazing….still.

  15. Mark Plant City Says:

Morale will not improve until Bowles consistently puts the best 11 Dfence on the field as he did this past week against the Raiders. Go get the Chargers in prime time. Mark Plant City

  16. Simeon4HOF Says:

Lavonte David is the best. My favorite current player. Still the Heartbeat of our Defense
