“This Is A Weird Team”
December 18th, 2024Yes, the big names in media have the Bucs on their lips.
Tampa Bay’s hammering of the Chargers was extra special on the hype front because it happened in Los Angeles, and Southern California is home to many media types.
Blowhard Colin Cowherd, the former local Tampa Bay sports radio and TV guy, always seems to keep and extra eye on the Buccaneers from his national perch at FS1.
He revealed his weekly power rankings yesterday and has the Bucs at No. 9 in the NFL. “I may have them low,” Cowherd said.
“This is a weird team,” Cowherd said, noting the Bucs can win ugly and win via shootout. He also likes his perception that the Bucs can run the ball down an opponent’s throat but the opposition can’t return the favor.
Cowherd also seems mesmerized by Baker Mayfield having thrown for 32 touchdowns with three games to play.

I had no idea Cowherd worked in Tampa during his career.
Early a.m. radio show with the late Hubert Mizell and TV news highlights guy, like 1995 or so.–Joe

I think it’s funny that Baker has a higher QB rating and more TD passes than Josh Allen, who everybody is screaming this week should be the MVP. Lamar Jackson still has way better stats than Josh Allen and I think less weapons. Baker’s QB rating for the season is over 100, think how much higher it would be if he could have 5-6 of those interceptions back that were completely his fault (he’s second in most interceptions thrown). You get to bad with the good and I think there’s waaayyy more good with Baker.

i knew Hubert professionally and have been local since 1974 and i never heard that either! mindblowing. A+ for “blowhard” my god he’s annoying in that way. a notch below bayless

Yep, remember him on the radio while I was attending USF and working nights. I liked him before he went national. He’s insufferable now.
Tampa radio was classic back in that day. Cleveland Wheeler and Mason Dixon for morning and drive time. For sports there was Ted Webb and Nanci Donellan. Colin and Chris came just a little bit later. Classic stuff.

I need to say somewhere that I am WORRIED. Unfortunately this team has a tendency to read the press and smell themselves too much after a big win. I hope they are not overlooking the Cowboys, who just thumped a team the Bucs could barely beat.

Colin Cowherd is an absolute fraud. Can’t believe grownups pay attention to this dud. He has been hypercritical of Mayfield in the past. Most of these media types just join the momentum train. When I guy plays well, he is ‘their” guy. When he doesn’t, he is your guy.
The “Joes” are honest and insightful, the rest of the media just repeat whatever the flavor of the day might be.

Bucs aren’t overlooking anyone. I’m in the O-ville area so not familiar w/Cowherd. I’ve listened to Bucs Radio during game days. I remember guys like Mark C and Dave K, and David Logan (RIP), yes, the former Bucs player and a good one. I do know who Mad Dog is though I never paid much attention to him. I feel a win coming in my bones again. C’mon. Bucs, make it 5 in a row. The national blowhards won’t know what hit them! Yuk-yuk.

Imagine this offense with a healthy CG smh.

The same blowhard that used to go out of his way to diss Baker in his Cleveland days, ain’t that something.
December 18th, 2024 at 11:53 am
You have to remember though that Shepard and McMillan wouldn’t have gotten the reps they needed with Godwin healthy. Just not sure McMillan still would have turned the corner.
Now if and when Godwin returns they will je that much better.

Cowherd is talented. Very prepared . His 3 hour show has a cadence that is tight and information heavy. He is an entertainer . He’s supposed to provoke strong reaction. With new information, he changes his opinion ( baker) . No one in the industry comes close to his grasp of the medium . He speaks in a clear, cogent, stream of consciousness. No broken phrases or clauses. Knows what topics to cover, which ones to avoid. Great , informative guests. Doesn’t waist time taking calls from audience. Keeps segments concise and sharp. Hate an opinion here or there, but recognize the talent.

They already went in a 7 game winning streak and they are 11-3. They’re competition and division is no better than ours but we’re small market and he’s been on cover of Madden

He used to be sharp, original, raw, and different. Now, he is extremely LAZY. He might (MIGHT) be good for maybe, about one or two shows a month. I’m not going to get into all of it right here right now, but “LAZY” (and out of touch) is the best way to describe most all of his ‘takes’ currently. His ‘sidekick’ is waaaay more attuned to what’s going on and constantly calls him out on his (lazy and outta touch) ridiculous takes. Colin just spews propaganda ’talking points’ that he receives from a handful of his FO Friends. And he just ‘slurps’ them up, talking completely out of HIS HEAD. It’s all empty and biased. Before Jay absolutely, just DESTROYS HIM (on a regular basis). He traps him all the time, too! It’s so ridiculous. Jay does really get on my nerves tho… Colin is mostly now, unwatchable.

Colin should seriously, think about playing DFS “DraftKings.” I mean, he’s constantly rambling off players (and etc) who are no longer even a part of a particular team. He’s just ‘off’ on A LOT. And, once he get goin… You better LOOKOUT LoL. Seriously, he’s good for about a show or two, a MONTH. It’s funny too, cause Jay will call him out like, “WOW, You Really Came Prepared TODAY!!!!” LoL. And, Colin just laughs, because HE KNOWS IT. Hahah

colin cowturd constantly uses baker for engagement. every now and then he will give him a backhanded compliment, but for the most part he has nothing but bad to say about him bc he knows baker’s fanbase will bite on any negativity. he’s been doing that since baker was at oklahoma.
he’s one of the most annoying sports guys i’ve seen. he also has the biggest hard on for caleb williams and lincoln riley. it’s ridiculous lol.

With regards to Josh Allen, you have to take into account his rushing yards and rushing TDs too, plus he has way less INTs than Baker. And on top of that, he is basically they’re entire offense. Bills don’t have a Mike Evans or Chris Godwin, or the same type of run game. Their offense is all dependent on Josh, which is why I think he’s the favorite.
If we didn’t have that 4 game slide mid season, and Baker had a few less INTs, I think he would be in the MVP discussion too.

You have a point of view. Ok with me regardless if misguided. Cowherd is a buffoon.

Let ‘em Bake, I appreciate your thoughtful opinion of Colin. I agree with you. Colin is concise, well prepared & some of his opinions I find very thought-provoking. I also like that he has the courage to let his side-kick refute him, strongly. To lump him with Steven A. is lazy. Steven is only provocative & is the very embodiment of insufferable.
