“They’re In There Coaching And Teaching”

December 20th, 2024

So Bucs inside linebackers coach Larry Foote acknowledged the trauma yesterday endured by Bucs fans and players.

Since Foote and the Bucco Bruce Arians regime arrived in 2019 with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, the Bucs haven’t been “lit up like that on defense early in the year,” as they were this fall, per Foote.

Yes, it was jarring.

The recent defensive comeback over the past four games, per Foote, is very much attributed to the creativity of Todd Bowles and leadership.

Foote specifically mentioned injured safeties Jordan Whitehead and Antoine Winfield, Jr. “They’re in there coaching and teaching,” he said.

Frankly, Joe thinks two big parts of the defensive improvement are Lavonte David stepping up his game and Bowles not being less scared to blitz because Jamel Dean returned four weeks ago.

Regardless, Joe was very happy to hear about Winfield and Whitehead being so committed. Their “coaching and teaching” should at least keep them mentally sharp for their projected postseason returns.

Hopefully Edwards, Izien and Tykee are ready to go this week. We should be able to let Winfield sit until playoffs and hopefully get 100% right.

Playing the Giants, Panthers and Raiders might also have something to do with it.

  3. Murph Says:

They just beat a Chargers team that beat the Broncos last night.

  4. Upstate NY BUC Says:

We don’t make the schedule AMI!!! wins are wins!!! Go Bucs

Lavonte David stepping up his game? Didn’t know there were more steps on the ladder.

  6. Jeffrey Becker Says:

bowles went one LB sometimes, didn’t think he’d have the balls 🙂

I’ve never understood why when a player who is great at their position, then suffers an injury just stays at home and not on the sidelines helping younger players. That should be an unspoken thing

Wonder if CG14 has been spotted at practices? I don’t know how far along his healing process is, but I am curious. He can’t do much physically, but he’s got PLENTY of football wisdom in that gray organ between his ears.

The Broncos beat us by the biggest margin in September, 26-7. They are the only team to have “ lit it up” on us. That was in September.

    Go Bucs!!

  10. Bucsfan81 Says:

The Broncos beating us was more of Sean Payton just having our number. Bucs still have more talent then Broncos.

    Exactly!

  12. VOT Says:

Broncos front 7 ate us up before the Oline had gelled – Dallas with Cooper Rush should be a beat down waiting to happen

  13. RVATom Says:

I dunno. We haven’t played a decent qb who has any reasonable weapons at his disposal. Matt Ryan carved us up twice. I don’t remember if Winfield was out the 2nd one? Anyhow, hopefully these guys are coaching up the backups not to get too high on the recent success.

  14. Jethro Tull Says:

    Matt Ryan?!?!?!

    Yeah and Sonny Jurgenson too.

  15. Pewter Power Says:

Everybody knows damn well the only reason fans and the organization are talking about running the table is because they are playing weak teams with no weapons to challenge this defense so I’m Not sure what’s with all the exaggerated love. Broncos and chargers are in the same division they know each other well so it tells you nothing about either one of those teams. It’s probably why Carolina was a tough game outside of Bowles stubborn tendencies.

  16. infomeplease Says:

Dallas will be another tough game. The Defense needs to play another complete 60 minute game. More man coverage, less soft zone. That was the formula last week. The offense should be fine if BM6 protects the ball! LFG!!

    @Pewter Power
I disagree. The only reason the team or organization is talking about “running the table” is because they know they have in order to control their own destiny and make the playoffs. MAINLY the message from everyone on the team, players and coaches, is one practice and one game at a time, and getting better as we go. I’ve watched most, if not all, of the press conferences and I NEVER hear anyone on the team sounding like the’re looking beyond the next opponent.

Fans are a different story…. lots of over reactions on the daily both good and bad. Some get carried away with fantasies of the super bowl and some piss on the best of news or outlooks with reasons why the optomists shouldn’t believe.

Everyone is aware our schedule was/is weaker on the back end but all we can do is prepare for and play the team/s in front of us, execute the game plans, avoid costly mistakes, bring high energy etc and try to win them. I’m pretty sure thats the message coming from Buc’s HQ but perhaps you have info the rest of us aren’t privy to that contradicts that.

Pewter Power, what exactly is your problem? What “exaggerated love”? I sure don’t get that impression on here. You sound more like a non fan. So what if the Bucs finally break the SNF curse. I, for one, hope they do by gawd!

    Amen
    Exaggerated love? Huh?
I can’t explain my fascination with the Bucs for 50 years. For many reasons that I have explained here, I’ve tried to move on this year and can’t. That little voice kept saying “It’s gonna fall apart soon.” and the merry-go-round will start again. Somehow I still have hope. YOU know what I mean, don’t you ?

Duh you do that for the entire season. Not complaining about the opponents because Bucs handle business it gets us in the playoffs with a high seed. I’m just laughing at everybody talking about the defense turning a corner when no one has really put pressure on them. I see out of everything I said a couple people took exaggerated love and ran with it. I didn’t lie because if eagles, bills or ravens were on the backend no one is talking about running the table
