The No. 3 Seed Is In Play

December 8th, 2024

Bucs GM Jason Licht.

While some Bucs fans are skeptical Tampa Bay will make the playoffs, despite leading the NFC South with a 7-6 record, Joe is looking up at the chances of scoring a No. 3 seed in the NFC playoffs.

That’s right, No. 3.

The Bucs lead the Falcons by one game in the division and currently hold that No. 4 NFC seed with four games remaining.

Seattle is 8-5 and a game ahead of the Bucs as the NFC West leader and No. 3 seed.

The Bucs have three snuggly-soft opponents remaining on their schedule. But Seattle? They’ve got the Packers (9-4) and Vikings (11-2) at home, plus the Bears (4-9) and Rams (7-6) on the road. That’s a brutal closing slate.

But more important, Seattle is 4-4 against NFC opponents while the Bucs are 6-3. If the Bucs and Seahawks each win their division and have the same final record, the tiebreaker to determine playoff seeding would be won-lost record within the conferece.

So the Bucs are looking strong with one remaining out-of-conference game against the Chargers, and NFC games against the Cowboys, Saints and Panthers, a trio that’s combined for 13 total wins.

Just hoping we get in. Atlanta isn’t losing the next 2 weeks vs 2 really bad teams in LV and Giants. So if we don’t win both of our games on the road left we will need some luck to get in. If we split them then win our and likely in either as a 4 or 7 seed with Wash playing Atlanta and one has to lose assuming Eagles take care of Wash at home and Bucs take care of their last 2 at home which certainly isn’t a given.

  3. Bucs Guy Says:

Next two weeks on the road will be tough. Historically, the Bucs never play strong when they go out to the left coast. The Bucs will take a win any way they can get it on the road.

With Ridder now the starter in LV looking for revenge vs his old team, and their defense playing pretty well the last few weeks, and Cousins playing absolutely horrible, I’ve got my money on the Raiders beating the Falcons. Even if the bench Cousins for Penix, his pro debut will be going against Max Crosby and he will definitely have the rookie jitters

  5. BucsFan81 Says:

Don’t be surprised if Atlanta loses again next week. That game is in Vegas and I have feeling Crosby going to force cousins into a lot of bad throws and interceptions.

Lets not get ahead of our selfs 😂 still gotta play the chargers next sunday and the saints at home for the season finale

  7. JimBobBuc Says:

Control your own destiny and win out. Forget all this playoff talk and focus on the Chargers.

  8. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

One game at a time Jose. One game at a time.

  9. Beeej Says:

There ARE no really bad teams

This is like saying that we’re getting upgraded to a better cabin on the Titanic. We’re not a good football team. Hard for me to see that we can do any damage in the playoffs.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

Watching this game tonight is just reminding me of what a gutless coward Todd Bowles is/was for not going for 2 to win the game @KC. What an idiot. Everyone except Todd knew how that game was going to end.

  12. Thisisouryear!! Says:

We could lose any of the last 4 but I hope not.

  13. Rod Munch Says:

How does anyone give the ball back to the Chiefs in a close game? Go onside kick – then if you don’t get it, let the Chiefs score and try to be the last man with the ball like they used to do in Arena Football. You just can’t give Mahomes the ball and expect not to lose.

  14. firethecannons Says:

omg Joe stop please, we have to win next week or the Falcons will own this division, simple as that. Falcons play the easy to beat Raiders and we play the much better team Chargers. The way we are decimated on defense we stand minimal chance of winning. We also have to beat the Panthers and the Saints. Please stop talking playoffs–that is ridiculous at this point.

  15. DBS Says:

But the great Chiefs in yet another Close game. Lucky and Mahomes. Just like that Field Goal.

  16. Pewter Power Says:

Finally fans have to stop beating their chests about beating up trash teams. Now you have to beat am actual good playoff team to keep the division lead. I expect then to start blaming the refs, penalties and injuries days before the game starts

  17. Buchen61 Says:

Too many people counting their chickens… Not good

  18. Dan the Bucs Fan Says:

Both the Buccaneers and Falcons are favored to go 3-1 rest of the way. That loss by Vegas odds will be at SanDigo for us and against Washington for them! We are favored to get the 3 seed which would be pretty incredible!

This team has overcome a lot to get back in the race. We can beat anyone I beleive that and all these half hearted fans don’t understand Carolina should have beat Philly today and Raiders have been close to best teams in nfl.

Winning three in a row isn’t easy here off to Todd and the Bucs!

We aren’t supposed to win in SanDiego next week so let’s just relax enjoy the game and know if we do we probably just won the divsion.

  19. MadMax Says:

We got this….just tighten up Baker and O line….you crapped around today, cant do that ish anymore

  20. MadMax Says:

Btw Jason, im on it scouting for ILB help…..but make sure you keep that RB Skattebo in your radar…we need him!

  21. adam from ny Says:

seattle is at their hottest point rn…

that division is tight af top to bottom…

things can certainly change with about a quarter of the season left…

seattle might not even win it

  22. Dlavid Says:

The way the Bucs look playoffs are not a thrilling proposition !! This team will not preform well in the playoffs ! Third year in a row we have mid season slump and just enough gas to get past the finish line ! Dump Bowles !

  23. View from 132 Says:

The Rams can still win that division if they beat SF next week.

  24. rrsrq Says:

The Chargers have a good defense, but in all their wins, they have only beaten one team with a winning record, the Broncos and they lost to the Cards. Bucs will have to play a near-perfect game, but putting it all together and NO injuries this week, anything is possible, let’s go Bucs

  25. Oxycondomns Says:

mcconkey can be a difference he didnt play vs chiefs

  26. orlbucfan Says:

Bucs have been playing crippled pretty much the whole season. Chargers are a funny team cos you never know about them. A little NFL trivia, Joe: Both Seattle and Tampa Bay were awarded their franchises the same year. Four games left, one game at a time, Bucs. I will be absolutely thrilled if they finish 10-7. 11-6, I’ll faint! Go Bucs in LA!

  27. Tony Says:

    @DanTheBucsFan

You’re right. We’re not supposed to win in San Diego next week. No football team has won in San Diego in the last couple of years other than their college teams because they moved the Chargers out of there.
