The Jamel Dean Knee Injury(ies)

December 30th, 2024

Locker room sighting.

Here is what the Bucs have said about Jamel Dean injuring his knee late in the second quarter of yesterday’s destruction of the Stinking Panthers.

Very little.

When asked about Dean’s injury yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles pretty much shrugged his shoulders when asked about what happened with Dean and the severity of his knee injury.

“I don’t know at this time,” Bowles said. “We will see during the week. I’ll get results when I go back in.”

So no light was shed. The CBS broadcast team said Dean injured both knees.

As Joe walked into the Bucs’ locker room after the game, Dean was leaving. He was not on crutches, which is a good thing. But he was obviously limping. It almost looked to Joe that he may have needed crutches.

Joe quickly asked Dean how he was doing and all he said was, “I’ll be fine” and headed out the door as quickly as his bum knee would allow. He smiled and seemed to be in a good mood.

Masked emotions?

Yesterday in place of Dean, cornerback Josh Hayes logged quite a few snaps. No, that’s not comforting.

Bowles will have an update at his day-after presser shortly after noon on today. Injured players usually are still undergoing tests on Mondays, so it wouldn’t be surprising if Bowles has no news.

Almost forgot about this while watching wacky night game.
Hope Dean is OK. Doesn’t sound too great.
    CB in Round 1

  2. firethecannons Says:

We are going to hopefully be drafting corner in the next draft. IMHO we need to buy edge x 2 and draft corners and safeties. In fact most of our draft needs to be secondary players.

  3. Simeon4HOF Says:

Yes buy Edge. Not hitting well on Edge picks. Buy 2 Edge lol, draft rest of defensive holes

  4. MadMax Says:

    Trade out of first

    Emmanwori
    Kennard
Skattebo mini Atrain (because we cant run Bucky into the ground)
    CB?
    Debo Williams (LB)

Yes im a little gamecock biased, but i know under rated talent when i see it…How do you think we got Bucky, Big V, Wirfs, Winfield, Godwin, Barton, White(when he was a good LB)… i know my stuff….plus going after Brady and then going after Baker….you see….long timers know ive been here

  5. Wvbuc Says:

    Xavien Howard?

    Chandon Sullivan?

Ok, but Howard is probably better than next man up.

  6. Kgh4life Says:

Dean had knee issues in college, maybe they have resurfaced.

  7. Simeon4HOF Says:

This could just be a bit of a 2nd yr slump 4 Diaby. He plays hard and well against run and shines. He’s not reason we lost a handful of games we should’ve won. We need to buy a #1 Edge tho.

Bucs D an Edge, new CB1, LB, DT away lol.

Either way, we have to fix our pass rush pass coverage same way we did our Oline and Running game this year.

Repairs to Defense start with replacing JTS, Dean, Britt, Hall. Depth.

    Who’s best to be our HC though. Bucs finish with #1 Offense;
Then they must focus on Coen.

A first round out should not retain Todd Bowles.

For what. To watch Coen and Caleb win SBs in Chicago.

Love our win today. Love our Bucs, Love our Players.

We have to do better. Our Core is too talented and window still open with our vet Stars like LVD, M1K3 etc

Bring Chris back and sign a beast Edge for a change, JL draft, and SB bound.

But not with wrong Coach or wrong Defense.

  8. D-Mac Says:

Don’t forget that we need an inside linebacker desperately!

  9. Simeon4HOF Says:

I hope we draft ILB in Round 2

  10. BillyBucco Says:

We are good LBers and 1 edge away from having a shutdown defense.
We do need 1 corner opposite Zyon but not sure Round 1.
Still think if a LB is good enough at say 20-22 pick then he will be better than the 5th corner.
    I would Buy Edge
    1st LB
    2nd CB
    3rd LB/CB
    4th CB/LB
    5th Edge
    6th Edge
    7th Edge
Waiting this long on Culp was stupid.
    Offense is loaded.

  11. MadMax Says:

    Emmanwori is a hybrid LB/Safety

  12. Colonel Angus Says:

    F@ck your draft talk!

  13. rrsrq Says:

So everyone can shut up about Bowles, Bucs win SB, Bowles retires and Coen takes over, that way you all get what you want

  14. MadMax Says:

@colonel…child please be on your way

  15. ChiBuc Says:

How’d this turn into a draft thread?

I know some fear Coen to Chicago, but I highly doubt that will happen. The Bears probably won’t go for a first year OC. Not saying they shouldn’t, but chasing the wonderboy du jour has left them with a revolving door of leadership. I feel they will go for someone with more than 1 year under their belt as a play caller. IMHO, I think the target Ben Johnson. On that note,it would be wise for Coen to follow Ben’s example and get some more seasoning so he doesn’t flounder his way through a first season like Canales, but NE looks ripe for the taking.

  16. AMI_Chris Says:

    Dean is made of glass.

  17. Trey Alderson-Cloutier Says:

This guy has been injured 75% of his NFL career

  18. Marineinclermont Says:

Could we do the same thing we did with Davis last year and trade Dean to any team that will take his salary on. The Davis trade turned out to be a smart move considering who we got for him. Dean is just not going to be worth anything going forward He is just so injury prone

  19. firethecannons Says:

BillyBucco we already have plenty of mediocre edge–we do not need to to load up on that in rounds 5-7. Buy better edge (2) and load up on LB, CB, and safety.

  20. Blows sux Says:

Dean does not play a full season EVER!!!! and he won’t ever play a full season. He is here for the money and nothing else. Trade him!

  21. orlbucfan Says:

Lot of whiners on here whom I’ve never seen before. SOS. You can bet Licht knows he’s gotta work on Defense, and Special teams–need a Punter, come draft day. Let’s finish this season first, okay? I hope Bucs can get healthy so that they will have a fighting chance, at least, in the first round of the playoffs. Dean and a bunch of the D got bit by Buc Luck this year. It happens. Go Bucs, 10-7 next Sunday!!!

  22. Fred Says:

Should have moved on from Dean a while ago. Draft a good corner!

  23. Pewter Power Says:

Dream was a good draft pick but him and Davis were just brittle. Dean will be a cap casualty because unfortunately for him Bucs know what it’s like playing without him

  24. StickinUp4Centers Says:

“Repairs to Defense start with replacing JTS, Dean, Britt, Hall. Depth”

Logan Hall has 5.5 sacks this year. For a 3-4 DE that’s pretty damn good. If it was so easy to get double digit sack producers at every position on the D-line, I think they would have done that already. This isn’t Madden.

  25. MelvinJunior Says:

“MadMax” – If you have to say that “you know your stuff,” then you obviously, don’t know JACK. As usual, I have absolutely no idea what any of that ‘gibberish’ even meant… And, neither do you. Just talking out ya ace!

  26. Crunchbuc76 Says:

How bad is our Secondary when we hope and pray that Dean can start? My Gawd!!!

  27. MadMax Says:

Who are you @Melvin? ive never seen you post anything that contributes….just attacking other posters….why? Jealous? How long you been here? lol….man you no name cats just keep coming….keep at it lol

  28. AJ Says:

I sure hope he’s alright , Dean is our best defensive player.
Dean and David are the heavy lifters.
