The Bucs Are Not A Clutch Team

December 22nd, 2024

Strange stat continues.

Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs need to hire a hypnotist over this or what.

When Brandon Aubrey kicked a 58-yard field goal on the opening possession of the game, it doomed the Bucs.

Now Joe can just see many thousands of readers right now thinking, “What kind of nonsense is Joe typing about? It was the first drive of the game! It was just a field goal! Put the bottle down!”

Well, this is why Joe typed what otherwise is a ridiculous statement. The Bucs are still looking for their first win this season when they do not score in a game first.

The Bucs are now 0-6 when they do not score first.

Joe has no idea what that says or why that is. Joe doesn’t know if the Bucs get in a funk that early in a game or if that changes Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen’s attack plan (highly unlikely) or what.

Joe has to think the defense is the culprit. They can’t get enough stops to help the offense get its act together.

Still, that’s a terrible harbinger for a team that expects to be in the playoffs. A can score a measly field goal on its opening drive and they can go ahead and eat a W.

Not blaming Baker to be clear – just that last play looked like a disaster the second Baker held the ball.

There wasn’t 10 seconds on the clock, it wasn’t 4th down, just throw it away or take the sack.

Not blaming Baker, again, but man, just throw it away.

  2. LVMYBUCS Says:

Could have won this one but we will never be a SB with Bowles

  3. Bucamania Says:

What a joke. Literally had the ball ripped out of their hands twice. Dallas wanted it more.

  4. Oxycondomns Says:

the time out at the end of the first half lost the game gave cowboys a fg drive

  5. TampaBayRudy Says:

Did you say the Bucs are not a coached team, or not a clutch team? Poetic ending for milquetoast Bowles. Lost by either the FG he should have kicked or the FG he gave up by calling an unnecessary timeout like a doofus. Pick one and you’re not wrong. I hope he takes a permanent vacation.

  6. LVMYBUCS Says:

Bowles D is outdated time for change.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

You young Buc fans…HYPE can be a dangerous thing. Us old timers? We already knowin.. All ..THE HYPE. I said the Cowboys would play desperate. And they did. They whipped us good.

  8. The Placebo Kid Says:

That first half season defense was
    On full
Display. What a waste of time

  9. BucfaninMi Says:

    Todd is not clutch

  10. BallHawk75 Says:

    26-26

    Numbers don’t lie

Fire Bowles or sell the team.

  11. BucfaninMi Says:

@ Mike Johnson you are absolutely correct.

  12. Joshua Says:

I want to know how forward progress was pulled on the Vea hit yet Baker wasn’t ruled down and neither was White they were wrapped up and had forward progress stopped???

  13. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Insults were supposed to keep these guys’ feet on the ground, or so I tjought.

  14. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

At least Bowles will be fired and Liam Coen made Head Coach

  15. BucsBeast Says:

Bowles has made ANOTHER BACKUP/ROOKIE QB look amazing while setting career highs against his Defense. I’m so sick of watching this feast or famine Defense. Literally gave them points on 5 of their 6 1st drives. Bowles needs to go. P.S. don’t give me the injury BS either. Bowles couldn’t get his team especially the defense to focus.

  16. TheScourge Says:

After next weeks loss this three year slog will be all but over.

  17. Leighroy Says:

Ben, this HC is insulting to the fan base. I’ve had it with the mediocrity. Mediocre wasn’t good enough today!

  18. Hearty Dikerson Says:

Joes – just man up and stop with the vague implications. Call for Bowles’ head. It’s time.

  19. Jugheadfla Says:

Exactly….injuries injuries….sick of hearing about it….this defense sucked when everyone was healthy…..coaching can overcome injuries

  20. CalBucsFan Says:

Oxy’s right, who the hell decided to call a time out with 54 seconds left in the first half after getting a t first down at the Dallas’ 10 yard line, and then after the timeout the first play is a pass in to the end zone for a TD leaving :48 seconds on the clock for Dallas to kick a field goal?

When that happened I said to my wife they were going to lose because of those 3-points. The writing is on the wall, Bowles does not know how to manage the last 2-minutes of a game……

Atlanta will lose in Washington next Sunday, so Bucs are still going to make it to the playoffs if they can win out, but regardless….

LICHT NEEDS TO FIRE HC BOWLES & MAKE COEN THE HC!

  21. SteveK Says:

Screw our wretched pass rush, edge rush, defensive backfield alignments, and inconsistent play all around. That was not the result we needed, but the one we deserved unfortunately.

  22. Tye Says:

Bowels proves once again that he is absolutely one of the NFLs worst HC and DC!

  23. Cometowin2 Says:

Joe, Please ask Bowles if he thought of going into no huddle earlier? Please Glazer family don’t let us lose Coen. Fire Bowles!!!

  24. Ufcguy32 Says:

Also why hell is bucky not in with the last drive. White can go get fd. Carrying the ball like that. What are we doing????? I told u those 3 points at the half would cost us. Today bowles cannot figure out time management at all. He’s an idiot.

White is the better pass blocker, and you’re passing on that drive.

  26. Mike C Says:

It took Dallas 2, 58 yard field goals and two incredible stripes for them to squeak bye the Bucs. alot of opportunities left out on the field today.

I, like many I think, thought they should not have called a TO there – and when they scored the next play, of course I figured they left too much time considering their kicker than make it from 70. Still, hard to blame the Bucs when they got a TD the next drive. Personally, I would have saved the TO for exactly that reason – you’d hope Todd would have learned something from the Texans game – but from the 10, it’s hard to tell the Bucs to run clock and don’t get the TD.

What they could have done, which was much more egregious was punting from the Bucs 45. The offense is moving the ball at will, and tiny balls Bowles punts the ball knowing his punter sucks and his defense hasn’t stopped anything. That is unforgiveable and comes from the same cowardly mindset that has the Bucs not going for two at the end of the KC game.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

*got a TD the next drive. – meant play

  29. Mac Says:

I don’t think Atlanta loses next week. Washington has been playing awful as of late. They got lucky today with hurts getting knocked out. Atlanta will be motivated unlike our poorly coached team and ready to play knowing they own the keys to the division.

  30. HC Grover Says:

Sure they are. Pearl Clutch. U count on Bowles to make a game management blunder and keep his record around .500.

  31. Bakerfan Says:

I don’t see how you guys that have been Bucs fans for years put up with it. I would like to see them do well but this franchise is like a moth flying to close to a fire. It seems like only a few players put out maximum effort and I can get behind them win or lose. But this franchise is always trying to find new ways to lose and that is intolerable as a fan.

I will root for those hustle guys but as a franchise there needs to be a mindset change.

  32. Jeffrey Says:

26-26 tells you everything you need to know about Coach Bowles. After 52 NFL games you either get it figured out or you are what you are. Bowles is what he is.. mediocre. This team can’t play with a lead, every time we seem to have a drive, his poor defense lets the opponent go down the field in big chunks. The fact that we don’t win in prime time should have had Bowles with white hot concentration this week and put your knee on Atlanta’s neck by beating Dallas. Last time I checked, NFL playoffs are prime time games, so we wouldn’t show up. It was so simple, win tonight and show some dominance going into playoff time, but its the same result. Time for something better than 26-26 and a freshness is needed.

  33. Simeon4HOF Says:

I liked Bowles, loved him as a DC. I respect the way our team fights for him, and it’s cool when they shine.

But we are far from consistent, injuries or not. And can’t tackle well more and more often than not. That’s lack of Passion, mirrored from we know who.

More and more the D look unprepared and or unmotivated. That’s mostly on Bowles.

We have no Edge rush. Our corner scheme is trash often. Certain guys ate enabled to starf that suck.

JPP and Shaq were JL pickups. He can’t develop an Edge, got em covering Michael Irvin instead of Deion Dean lol.

Then there’s the game mgmt mistakes. And clock mgmt. And etc.

Then there’s the soft press conference that is content or ignorant of the mediocre overall HC approach to begin with.

Then there’s Jensen. And yes Godwin.

And then there’s a pattern of horrible Defensive picks he does sign off on to start on D. About.500 like his record.

Then there’s the fact that our D now lacks the hunger he does.

They’ve regressed, Offensive draft this year or not. They’ve still regressed.

    Don’t trust Todd moving forward

    Not worth this roller coaster.

Todd’s like Jameis coaching a Team

    Too often we look lost.

JL and our talent made him look better than he is.

    Time to go. Sadly so.

    Love Todd

    But he’s holding us back.

D lacks accountability, consistency, rhythm, splash his once had

And we don’t get OLB sacks or INT’s!

  35. Pewter Power Says:

This same trash defense was unstoppable last week. Classic example of what happened tonight. Fans get butt hurt when we say the team has to score 30 just to cover for Bowles sorry defense but as you see it’s not reality even though we came close. A decent defense and coach I don’t think we have 7 losses this year

  36. FortMyersDave Says:

I agree with Pewter Power, with a better head coach who has clock management skills, the Bucs would have at least 3 more wins. Plus, this head coach for whatever reason, cannot buy a win in primetime. What is the streak now? 6 games? I am sorry but tonight might have been the straw which breaks the camel’s back and gets Bowles launched.

  37. The Placebo Kid Says:

Clutch. More like a broken gear missing teeth but the guy steering keeps missing his shift and the car is stopped in the middle of a four way intersection.

  38. BucU Says:

This team once again was not prepared to play a big game. Embarrassing and sickening. Per usual.

  39. Don Says:

Just punt the ball early in the game. Never give a home team a short field.. They get pumped up and now you are behind the momentum.
