Sleepy, Rusty Jordan Whitehead

December 31st, 2024

Safety Jordan Whitehead speaks.

Not every big Bucs fan stayed awake Sunday night to enjoy the greatest gift Raheem Morris ever gave the franchise.

Head coach Todd Bowles was snoozing as the Commanders beat the Falcons in overtime.

(That seemed to ignite the legion of Bowles haters into a rage. They don’t need much.)

Also, Jordan Whitehead confessed to sleeping through the game that was so critical to the Bucs’ playoff hopes. Whitehead told the Buccaneers Radio Network that he watched some but couldn’t stay awake.

Apparently, Whitehead was not at the local-bar gathering where Baker Mayfield and other players were gathered to find good mojo.

Whitehead also said that he was rusty in Sunday’s game against the Panthers, feeling his four weeks on injured reserve (pectoral muscle) even after training hard to be ready.

“Definitely felt a little slow in the beginning [of the game], legs felt like I was running in mud a little bit,” Whitehead said. “And, you know, first time really using my left side, trying to get off blocks and things like that. It’s hard to simulate that in practice.”

The great news was Whitehead said he felt good Monday morning, so he’s very encouraged about stepping up his game “week after week.”

What bar does Baker frequent ???
    Asking for a friend.

  2. Lt. Dan Says:

Full confession. I went to bed a half time. I was “a few” beers in by that time.

  3. al Says:

That would explain why the bucs lose all their night games.

  4. GoneGator Says:

    Time to wake up Jordan.
Safety play has got to greatly improve if we’re going to make a run.

Frankly I’m not sure how Todd will piece together a defense to compete with other playoff caliber teams, given the pieces he has to work with, but even with 3rd stringers and duct tape he’s improved our D quite a bit since the bye 👍🏼

    16.3 ppg
Halftime adjustments have been even better = 3.8 points allowed in 2nd halves since the bye.

I watched the game……great game and Jayden Daniels if he keeps on playing the way he did in that game will be a force in the NFL…………hopefully he doesn’t end up like RGIII

  6. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ al

    GOOD ONE 🙂

  7. Panhandle Buc Says:

Such a disappointment on his 2nd stint here! He was pretty worthless out there and a reason our CBs play soft coverage. Safety is definitely our weakest area!

  8. JReel Buc Says:

    Fire Bowles

  9. Jethro Tull Says:

How about a defensive coordinator or an assistant to coach him up? Anyone? Bueller?

  10. Citrus County Says:

I sure hope all but especially the secondary coaches are working extra hard to tune up their guys.

  11. TheBucsAnthem Says:

It seems like Jordan Whitehead & Mike Edwards both play the same kinda way.

They’re both not really good coverage guys but both of them are great tacklers.

  12. drdneastup Says:

He played like he was taking a long nap vs. the Panthers.

Bruh! You don’t really mean that?

  14. Buddha Says:

We were one Raheem mistake from missing the playoffs. Failure to call a timeout cost the Falcons 18 precious seconds and a chance for a more makable field goal.

  15. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

So that would mean we have a chance to win the division due to us having better coaching!

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Wait… the Saints might actually have Carr, Kamara and Chris Olave all back this week? I can’t believe they’d actually play all those guys, unless it’s just to play the role of spoiler. The Bucs had better actually come ready to play unlike when they got full of themselves going into Dallas.

And the Falcons wouldn’t even be in the conversation had the refs not screwed the Bucs in the game in Atlanta when they not only missed a blatant face mask with a minute to go against Bucky, they also on the same play made up a BS holding call. And that’s not to even mention pylongate in Tampa when the refs gave them an extra TD.

I will agree with Whitehead, he did look slow to start the game and gave up at least two big plays. I didn’t really notice him the rest of the game, so hopefully what he’s saying is true and was back to full speed by the end of the game. Going to need him, and hopefully get back Winfield as well – that would be huge.

Feeling a little sluggish after 4 weeks on IR makes total sense. So the defense held the Panthers to 14 points, that’s one heck of a performance in my book. Im just gonna say it since no one else has so far !!

Go Bucs !! Beat the Saints !! Win the NFC South 4 consecutive seasons !!

    Keep Todd Bowles !!

  20. Lt. Dan Says:

@Bartow Buc – I gotta disagree about feeling sluggish after 4 weeks on IR. I’m pretty sure the rehab and getting “game ready” workouts and then getting clearance to play (after more workouts and rehab) is a pretty intense routine. Jordan Whitehead hasn’t looked like the same guy since he got here.

  21. gotbbucs Says:

Still not a great deep safety. Better in the box.

  22. adam from ny Says:

    whitehead WAS a great tackler…
whitehead WAS a bone jarring hitter…

those parts of his game he seems to have left in new york, upon his return to the bay…

he can potentially wake up in the playoffs and be that heat seeking missile again and all would be forgotten…

most of us bucs fans can remember the huge game he had in green bay a few years back

  23. Bucs Guy Says:

Too funny Drunk Bucs Fan. LOL

  24. MadMax Says:

Draft Emmanwori…in the 2nd….im done pushing debo williams, just no….not sure about Kennard since he sat out the bowl game today….i dont like that

  25. Bucs Guy Says:

    Raheem record in Tampa 17-31
    3-13
    10-6
    4-12

  26. ElioT Says:

Sounds like an indictment on the training staff that #3 was so rusty.

  27. garro Says:

Look I am a football fan from the age of 4.

But this business of putting games on and expecting me to drop everything and forgo rest/sleep? Kick off at 8:20 p.m. ET. So the left coast does not get inconvenienced, and the NFL makes more dollars? I have to maintain my real life out here. So no, I will not be catching the late game. I do believe these guys start their days early as well. Bucky meets with Tom Moore when?

I have not watched an entire MNF game live in decades. Not since I figured out the DVR.

    Go Bucs!

  28. Mac Says:

I’m worried about the Saints game. Seems like they have 3 weapons back on offense and want to desperately play spoiler for us. Not what I want to see at all!

  29. Darin Says:

Of course he’s not watching every game with your perverted eye. Duh

  30. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I really don’t know if we should keep Bowles or not.

Now that the offense has been completed, the defense will reap benefits in the draft. And Bowles really is good at defense.

I keep going back and forth on him. Yes, the defense has been under performing for a couple years, but we also lost great defensive plays because of the cap…and we didn’t replace them with the draft because rebuilding the offense was more of a priority.

So…if Bowles gets to fill out the defense now…he may become the perfect coach. MIGHT.

  31. Rod Munch Says:

garro – you have to keep in mind that not everyone is a complete and total dullard that goes to sleep at 9:30pm. Also NFL TV ratings say you’re in the vast minority. I imagine you’re the guy on New Years Eve calling the police on his neighbors for having the gull to do fireworks at midnight.

  32. Truth be Told Says:

This guy is not as good as the first time he was here. Has been a big disappointment thus far. AW is already overpaid. Go Bucs!

  33. garro Says:

Rod it was 10:00 and wake up was 6:00. LOL

I do retired life in Thailand these days. Sleep for this dullard is when I feel like it. The Thai folks in my village were having a blast last night. They tend to take any excuse for a party very seriously, but do respect their neighbors. The cops here would just join in with their own BTW. You are a funny guy!

    Go Bucs

  34. orlbucfan Says:

So garro, you live in Thailand. Bet it’s interesting watching this dumbo country lurching from one stupid point to another. One interesting factor is Whitehead is sporting a second Bucs SB ring and experience. The younger DBs are paying attention. JW ain’t chopped liver. They will be ready for the Aints. Joe, sure wish there was an update on CG14. I’m hoping a bomb drops on the Baltimore Ravens.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

    garro – God bless.
