Run Game Explosion Brewing
December 21st, 2024Notice in the headline, Joe did not type “implosion.” It’s “explosion.” There’s a difference.
“Explosion” means blow up. The other word means collapse from within.
Just going by the numbers, if anything is going to implode Sunday night when the Bucs play the Cowboys deep in the heart of Texas, it will be the sorry Cowboys’ run defense. The Cowboys are the fourth-worst rush defense in the NFL, allowing an average of 136 yards a game.
The Bucs? They’re tied with Green Bay for the fourth-best running attack through 14 games. The Bucs average 144.4 yards a game on the ground.
Back in the summer, Joe thought if somehow the Bucs (who had the worst rushing offense in 2022 and 2023) could somehow elevate the run game to middle of the pack in the NFL, that would be a helluva improvement.
But top-five? That just blows Joe away.
And some people wonder why hiring Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen as a head coach might seem attractive to NFL owners.

I’m not generally a fan of running the ball but this new Bucs run game is pretty entertaining. Helps to have a new electric rb. Can’t believe we got him in the 4h round!!!!

How much credit can Kevin Carberry claim? Curious if Coen would throw kudos Carberry’s way if asked what spurred the run game?

So glad we drafted him….see, im good for a few things Jason lol.
Now work on Skattebo for that 3 headed monster….injuries will happen. And we need a mini-Atrain. And we’ll always have four so Tucker isnt going anywhere.
When you can force it down their throats no matter what with a dominant O line and run game, theres no stopping us.

Irving Tucker and White
Gonna run big and right……
Thru the heart of Texas!

It’s fun to read Joe who ln the past thought the Bucs should give up on running the ball, and just pass, is now jacked up about our running game! Way to come over to the darkside Joe. Don’t get me wrong, I love the passing game, but watching this O line grind away teams is just as enjoyable. Great part about our run game is it’s opened up the play action making our passing game lethal too. Should Coen leave, I think the Bucs should promote Carberry to O.C.. It would be foolish to bring in a whole new offense. Coen might leave, let’s not let him take his staff with him.

Here come the revisionist historians.

The O line is creating holes and the backs are capitalizing on it. Bucky is adding a lot of juice to the offense. The coaches get credit also. But lets not forget the Gm and scouting staff that put this beastly O line together.

Running the ball is huge come playoffs

I’m probably just old school. Nothing more enjoyable than watching a football team running the ball right down the throats of their opponent. No better way to control the clock, put points on the board and keep the other team from scoring. That’s when you know life is good.
December 21st, 2024 at 7:45 am
One of my favorite parts of last week was knowing they needed about 8 yards for 500, and watching Sean Tucker get it with everyone knowing where the ball was going.

Play action roll right will work all day against Cowboys. Send ME intermediate to long with Otton and McMillan underneath. Back will be open in middle after play fake. Bucs will pile up points, ME gets 150 yards, and team gets another step closer to division crown.

Honestly I haven’t heard anybody argue against giving Liam a promotion. The only heated noise I’ve heard towards Liam Cohen is stay baby stay. We’re saying, pleading stay with the bucs as a offensive coordinator and see where this team can go. Given the circumstantial year both coaches have been great. Coach Bowles done well enough he will not deserve a firing so we have to pay this guy and keep them in Tampa ,this guy being Liam the man Cohen! Loving the season, loving this team, proud to be a Bucs fan! Let’s go Tampa Bay show up Sunday night and spank them cowgirls!!!

Starting to really appreciate what White & Bucky can do on a consistent basis…..

On top of their lack of a run defense they will not have Trevor diggs good news for Mr Evans and an opportunity to let our Baker bake

“And some people wonder why hiring Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen as a head coach might seem attractive to NFL owners.”
I don’t wonder why. I actually find it a very real and terrifying probability.

It is like Matthew Stafford going to the Rams. Years of frustration in Detroit and then suddenly a Super Bowl with the Rams.
A great player or a great coach can achieve great success when all of the pieces are in place. A great coach like Coen can make the wrong move and drown in mediocrity.
Corn’s brightest future is probably in Tampa where most of the pieces are in place, and more should come on board in next few years as Tampa gets out from under its dead cap and continues to draft well.

To Buccaneer management: KEEP COEN!
Do what it takes. Get that man under contract. Give him the $. Give him a promise of taking over the head spot when the time comes. Do whatever it takes!

If we can keep this O-Line together for a few years it has the makings of (dare I say) the old Cowboys line back w Aikman and Co,,, Teams hated playing that cowboy team cause that line would wear teams down and have rushing explosions in the second half of games ( sounds like what is going on here lately )
December 21st, 2024 at 9:46 am
I remember during the OTA’s and, especially once training camp started that, the offensive players and many o-line guys were saying how excited they were about Coen’s system and how creative it was. You combine that with Licht’s eye for o-line talent along with a good stable of running backs and we’re seeing the results. Carberry deserves credit as well. This offense is a blast to watch and the Glazers have to be loving it too. The cherry on top is, all this makes Mayfield and our receivers all the more effective and dangerous.
December 21st, 2024 at 9:57 am
The Glazers need to keep Coen at any cost.
Coen and Mike Greenberg are top candidates to leave the Bucs. Greenberg is considered a top candidate to go to the Jets or Giants as GM.. My concern with Greenberg losing is that he would also take a lot of the Bucs front office with him. We have a very good front office and I’d hate to see it decimated.
I hope Coen realizes the grass isn’t always greener, especially if he wants to go to the playoffs and get in the Super Bowl. Any team pursuing him will not have a QB like Baker, and will have many years to reach the playoffs, much less the SB.

Can the Joes can the Coen’s leaving rap for one day? He’s not going anywhere. Our young OLine is jelling, yeah! The fact that both White and now Bucky can catch the ball really opens Coen’s playbook especially with CG14 and possibly Otton out. Cowboys’ defensive game planning is probably consuming a lot of aspirin trying to defend against this bunch. Go Bucs!

Otton’s not playing right?

Averaging over 200 ypg in our last 3 games.
For the season we avg 174 ypg in road games.
