Rollercoaster Game For Baker Mayfield

He threw two ugly interceptions and ate an overtime sack that simply cannot happen.
And there was more on the negative side for Baker Mayfield today against the Panthers, but the Bucs’ quarterback also hit six targets, escaped a pass rush and ran for a critical first down with seconds remaining in regulation. Plus, Mayfield recovered from an in-game injury and had money throws in overtime and the fourth quarter with the season on the line.
In short, Mayfield was all over the place and didn’t have a great game, but he delivered true franchise-quarterback moments.
The Bucs (6-6) rose up to tie the Falcons (6-6) atop the NFC South and win their second consecutive road game against a sad but scrappy Panthers team.
Mayfield now has 25 TD throws and 11 interceptions this season with 3,034 yards passing and a completion rate over 70 percent. He also has blown away his prior career high in rushing yards.
Last week, Joe enjoyed a serious and lively panel discussion on FS1 that revolved around whether Baker Mayfield deserves to be the No. 6-ranked quarterback in the NFL, or whether that should go to Lamar Jackson.
Fun stuff.
No, Joe doesn’t see Mayfield in that tier of quarterbacks, but he’s top-10 and Joe’s damn glad the Bucs aren’t quarterbacked by Kirk Cousins.

I blinked and missed Trask playing. Rough game. Grab the W and run for the bus like you stole it (like we did). We lost that game twice at least. Don’t remember stealing one like that before.

Shakey game for Baker.
Not sure if receivers weren’t open (besides Mike a few times) or if he was out of rhythm for much of the game but it wasn’t pretty.
Steered us to the W though!

Do the Bucs realize they control their own destiny now. If they win out no matter what they make playoffs even if Falcons win out. They play Washington and if Washington loses in that scenario to Atlanta we own tiebreaker over them. Win and your in. Take care of business and no more s*it shows like today. Btw that quick pass to Sheppard with 6 seconds left to get in better FG range was awesome execution by Mayfield and Todd Bowels.

Bowles did not have that team in the Right frame of mind it takes to stay focused and play like it. That’s on bowles and that defence leaves a lot to be desired. They play way to off giving the panthers receivers wide open catches. No edge rush at all ! Play man More often , looked better when they did.

Baker is as streaky a QB as it gets.
He is either hot or cold. No in between.
Can anyone understand why a team would not want him??
I am a fan … but damn. He makes some questionable decisions.

The offense just didn’t look good not just baker but it starts with him. Otton and Evans dropped a few easy ones deff some questionable play calling and the defense does what it does lets guys run wide open across the field. Can’t believe we won but we can play like that if we want to make the playoffs

Baker slowly growing into that franchise QB. Finding a way to win on your worse days. Truth be told, the defense needs these young guys to step up or it’s missing players to get us to the super bowl. Besides David and Nelson which linebackers are making impact plays ?

That double clutch INT towards Otton was terrible. So was the other one, I thought it was Trask and was so disgusted.
Tough game for Baker but as you said, he was clutch when needed, battled hard as always. Canales has intimate knowledge of Baker and his game, I wouldn’t expect a much different game in game 2 vs Panthers unless Coen has a better game plan and the players come with better execution.

On the road and they were expected to win. They played tight. Next week in LA they will play loose and fast. Not expected to win. They Have nothing to lose. Besides Baker always plays well in la.

Not really a roller coaster. He generally sucked out loud.
But – that level is still better than Kyle’s Trashk. Pratt will be the backup in a week or two.

Joe, the best quarterbacks in the history of the NFL have games like this …. But, the best of the best find a way to win. That’s exactly what Baker Mayfield (and the rest of the team) did ! They found a way to win !!

Last year we were 4&7 so I wud say we r in a better state than last season at this time of season plz find positivity negitive bs on this site is worse than the bucs having a less than stellar day.with a big win in the end

NEOhio Buc nailed it. Finding ways to win on your wrist days.
I was out and didn’t get to watch, but the stat lines talk pretty loud and Baker definitely had an off day. Even against bad teams, that used to mean a L. Baker has a history of being streaky, but between last and this, I’ve seen his consistency in good QB play tremendously improve.
What is even more important,though, is these games that used to be guaranteed Ls turning in to Ws. Many games that used to come down to the wire, his game would fall off even on his pro bowler type games.We’re seeing him keep his cool and make clutch plays that were his downfall in Cle.
The Bucs are getting the franchise QB they were hoping he would turn in to.

New Fan Land – consider yourself fortunate. It was the type of game that would make you think about ingesting cyanide, no matter which team you were behind, or even if you were just a poor casual fan in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Everyone of us who watched that atrocity are more damaged than before.
It was that ugly.

Mayfield was definitely playing better during the first 6 weeks of the season compared to more recently.
Weeks 1 – 6: 15 touchdowns vs 5 interceptions
Weeks 7 – 12: 10 touchdowns vs 6 interceptions
