Ready For A Playoff Run

December 21st, 2024

Winning.

“This is a team no one will want to play.”

Joe has heard and read that phrase spoken and written so many times since Sunday that Joe wants to grab a bottle of Bulleit Bourbon frontier whiskey and do a shot every time it’s said.

And then make sure to schedule an appointment with a coroner.

It seems every NFL analyst breathing has uttered/typed this phase the past week. Prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports is no different. He typed a column in the wake of the Bucs’ blowout of the Chargers and explained why he thinks the Bucs have all the right pieces at the right time to make a deep playoff run.

If they do [run the table], they’ll win the NFC South [and clinch the No. 3 seed]. Like I said, nobody will want to play this team in the postseason. They can score on anybody and when the defense is healthy, that unit can be really good — a great mix of young and old on that side of the ball.

Tampa Bay showed last year it could win with Mayfield and gang in the playoffs. Now they are seasoned some, which should make them even more dangerous this time around. That’s why they have to be considered a team that can go on a run in the playoffs and seem to be getting hot at just the right time.

Joe wouldn’t be shocked at all if the Bucs got to the NFC title game, as heard on the Ira Kaufman Podcast.

Now Joe’s not saying they will. First, the Bucs have to get to the playoffs.

On the flip side Joe also wouldn’t be completely shocked if the Bucs are watching the playoffs on the couch just like you and Joe. Remember: All it takes is for the Dixie Chicks, now just a game back of the Bucs, to be tied with the Bucs and Atlanta wins the division.

The next three games will be fun — or one of the biggest nutkicks since the Bucs choked away a win at Atlanta this season.

  1. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

As much as it hurts, we are all Eagles fans this week. As long as they beat Washington then next week’s Commanders vs. Falcons guarantees a loss for one of them.

  2. TampaBayBucFan Says:

We have several ways to get to the playoffs….

    Win out…
Win 2 with an Atlanta loss
If we lose and Atlanta wins out….Washington loses to Atlanta & Phil

    Don’t get complacent…

  3. Durango 95 Says:

Despite the very recent improved performances in the play of the defense I remain unconvinced that unit has turned the corner from the way it has played throughout the season. Guess you could say I’m from Missouri on this one.

  4. Lt. Dan Says:

@ Joe’s: Send me the address to JoeBucsFan World Headquarters. If the Bucs win the NFC south I will send you a couple of bottles of Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey.

  5. MF Bucs Says:

Durango 95 is that a show me state reference??

  6. Kenton Smith Says:

Yes the Cowboys are a muffed punt away from having a 4 game winning streak. They have tradition and are 1-6 at home this year and badly want to turn that around. Parsons is playing some of the best football of his career. Dowdle has 3 straight 100 yard games. Lamb already has 1100 yards and their kicker may be as good as ours. Then 2 division games where they can be bedlam. So it looks to me like we’re lucking out again! 3 games that will test us hard and make us that much better!! GO BUCS!!

  7. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Durango 95, kind of the same here.

Not negativity, just healthy skepticism with a touch of optimism.

  8. Lightningvinny Says:

Beat the Cowboys ,,, Make the Cowboys quit in the second half the way the Chargers quit ,, Run the ball , Run the ball , Run the ball ( how odd is it to say that after the past few years )

  9. Pelsbuc61 Says:

The inconsistency of this team makes me doubt they will win out and make the playoffs. They should win out but been a Bucs fan since 76’ so I’ve got scars.

  10. Ugotrobbed Says:

We’ll see! We’ll know more around midnight Sunday!
    Go Bucs!

  11. Statistically Insignificant Reader Says:

since ’76’ Sitting right beside you Plsbuc61

  12. Jethro Tull Says:

    With Durango 95.

Just beat the Cows by any means necessary, and hope for a flaccid Penix showing from Atlanta.

  13. Proudbucsfan Says:

Same here Pelsbuc61 i’ve been a Bucs fan my whole life. I was born the same year. The Bucs were born, so I have deep scars.

  14. Pewter Power Says:

this is different from last year we control our own destiny. Win out and it doesn’t matter what the falcons do

  15. Jethro Tull Says:

How about win Sunday. One game season.

  16. Beeej Says:

I remember our first win–was working at Kmart on Waters and Florida, they announced it over the PA system

  17. Bojim Says:

Just win out. Don’t worry bout the others. Still concerned about the secondary. Have been all year.

  18. al Says:

It’s talk like that which may hit the bucs in the butt. Dallas is going to be tough to beat. They need to win to stay in the playoff hunt. Acting like you are already in is a sure way to lose.

  19. Bucs And Them Says:

A seal clubbing of the Dallas Joneses on national tv, in Dallas, would fire this team up and us fans big time! Take care of our business these last 3 games Bucs. Go into the playoffs on a 7 game win streak humming. Who would want us in the playoffs?

  20. JimBobBuc Says:

Jim Mora: “PLAYOFFS? PLAYOFFS? “. I hope the Bucs aren’t listening to this hype and realize they need to play to their own high standard to beat the Cowboys.

There are still a lot of national media and fans out that think the Bucs are a poor 8-6 team. They say Baker is a very average QB and our defense sucks. I don’t agree, but Sunday night the Bucs need to prove them wrong. LFG!

  21. JimBobBuc Says:

Joe, a fine glass of Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey should be savored slowly!

  22. Gipper Says:

Not convinced about defense. These guys are poor tacklers and coverage has been softer than Charmin. One good half doesn’t make a defense. If Bucs get into a shootout with Cowboys, like Bucs chances. Afraid it will come to that. Just reminding all that a few weeks ago bloggers on this site wanted Bowles tied to the tracks. Not his fault that there are so many gaping personnel holes on this defense.

  23. SB Says:

No chance the Falcons beat Washington next week.

  24. Pmike Says:

Cowboys always feel more like a division game than not. Coach Bowles vs Coach McCarthy is always an old school bout between a great defensive mind vs a great offensive mind. Always look forward to these games.

This year, the Bucs have the edge in my opinion. Diggs and Overshown being out on their defense should allow the run and pass game to flourish. Our D is also knicked up, but against a backup QB – pressure should be a main theme for our D line. Only time will tell!!

    GO BUCS!

  25. Bosch Says:

Joe, give the hype a rest. Instead go ask Bowles what he is doing to keep the players focused among all this hype.

  26. Mike C Says:

Bosch, stfu bro, team just Dismantled the BEST defense in the game, we don’t need to calm down, you need to start getting effin excited!

  27. First Last Says:

Last year while deployed to the Middle East I had a prophetic dream of Baker winning a superbowl and then woke up to the sound of fighter jets taking off. It was a disappointing let down of a dream because we lost the Lions game. This dream happened before we even made it to the playoffs so I got more excited with each passing week. Maybe this is the year we win and my dream was for this year. Take it to the bank fellas.

  28. orlbucfan Says:

The more comments I read, the sorrier I am for missing last week’s game. It’s long overdue for the offense to carry the defense for this team. It’s sounds like that is (FINALLY) happening. The team is focused on the game, not all the hot air. Washington barely beat the Aints. They will beat Hotlanta. Bucs need to take care of business first. Beat the Cowpukes. Then start talking about the last 2 games. They will be dogfights cos they’re in the same Division.

  29. infomeplease Says:

One game at a time! The Buc’s players and coaches need to bring their A game to Dallas, like they did in LA! The offense needs to control the clock with long sustained drives that end with points! The defense needs to get off the field on 3rd and 4th downs!

Dallas in Dallas, on national TV, on the road for the second time in 2 weeks will not be a cake walk! The Bucs control their own destiny! LFG!!

  30. ReneDejesus Says:

And then make sure to schedule an appointment with a coroner. 😂😂😂

  31. Wayne perez Says:

    Let’s win in Dallas first

  32. Bosch Says:

Mike C – The win against the Chargers was truly one to celebrate. And I did in the early part of the work. But that win does not just automatically translate into victory over Dallas. I hear no one talking about focus preparation, or respect for the opponents strength.

On another topic, you should post more often. You have such an elegant way of expressing yourself.

  33. GJ Says:

Definitely can’t get ahead of ourselves and need to stay focused on 1 win at a time. But I am an eternal optimist and I am hopeful for things just falling into place, which will mean winning out and getting to rest players at the end, going to the playoffs healthy and on a winning streak, 1st game at home, then shockingly 2nd game at home because of an upset in the other bracket, the Lions injuries catching up to them in the playoffs and avoiding them, and because of that upset the NFC championship game is in Tampa. How’s that for dream scenario? Lol

  34. Anyhony Says:

    Jethro Tull for the win!

  35. SenileSenior Says:

Jethro Tull: Hat in Hand 🎶

    Go Bucs!!

  36. MadMax Says:

    We got this…just chill lol
