“Not Pretty By Any Means”

December 1st, 2024

A happy stinker.

Hey, what happened to the old adage that says any NFL road win is a thing of beauty?

Well, whoever wrote that hasn’t suffered through numerous 2024 Panthers games like Joe has, including today’s.

It’s a bad Panthers team, one that already traded multiple good players to prepare for the 2025 NFL Draft. And the Panthers’ suckage was further highlighted today by conservative playcalling by their head coach (thanks, Dave!) and a brutal kicking game.

Still, Joe is hearing it from fans annoyed because Joe is not doing cartwheels down Dale Mabry Highway after a thrilling Bucs overtime victory, a breakout game by the Bucs’ special young running back and a legendary Bucs rushing day.

Ok. Joe gets it. A win is a win and it feels 100 times better than a loss. But there were serious issues on the field. Heck, even Baker Mayfield himself sounded exasperated during his postgame interview on FOX.

“Not pretty by any means,” Mayfield said of the win, noting many offensive penalties and his own crappy plays.

It’s ok to win ugly. But it’s December and the season is — and was — on the line.

The Bucs have to play better. Joe knows it. The Bucs know it. And surely Todd Bowles and the thin ice beneath him know it.

    Boring.

  3. MadMax Says:

    Im saying nothing

  4. Fred Says:

It was fugly and Todd needs to be replaced. We can’t use a defensive genius like him any longer. A lucky fumble and two missed kicks won the game. Not the coaching.

  5. Peter Says:

Panthers always play us tough look at series it’s like 25 to 22 historically

  6. Miller5252 Says:

They sure don’t act like they know it. Should have been a repeat of the Giants beat down! Time for some new blood coaching the D! If it ain’t coming from the middle there will be no pressure on the QB! We make all QBs look like all pros when they play Bowles D

  7. StickinUp4Centers Says:

The Bucca took the Chiefs to overtime. The Panthers took the Chiefs to the last drive. Maybe they’re not as bad a team as the beginning of the year.

  8. MadMax Says:

    sick and stupid….there i said it….blow it to H e L and gone

  9. Bucs 95 Says:

Bucky irving needs too be RB 1 for the rest of the season and we run our offense through him

  10. Usfbuc Says:

I’ll take the win of course because that’s the only thing that matters. I’ll take an ugly win all the way to the Super Bowl if that’s what wins it. Team was definitely off today.

  11. Lightningvinny Says:

Every win is tough in the NFL,, Raiders take Chiefs to the wire ,, Bears take Lions to the wire,,, Jags take Texans to the wire and yes the Panthers take us to the wire and beyond ,,, just had to win and move on

  12. Eric Says:

These are the wins you need down the stretch. Not like we didn’t have a couple we “should have won” also. It balances out.

  13. Bucben1961 Says:

I’m sure there is a few NFC teams hoping Todd Blows limps into the playoffs so they can face his ferocious defense

  14. Tucker Says:

Chiefs have been in close games all year they don’t look good so that means nothing that the Panthers played them close.

  15. Swanee22 Says:

Mayfield turn over machine , but finally put it together in overtime. Mayfield is not getting us to a NFC championship game in any season. He is adequate but the obvious weakness is our awful slow secondary. Poorly coached and the players are clueless on assignments.

  16. Mike C Says:

Perhaps stomping the Panthers would have made the Bucs overconfident, no chance of that mentality after that kind of game.

  17. Mike Johnson Says:

Buc fans don’t want to hear this, But I’m gonna say it anyway. Carolina gave us the game. They missed what? 3 or 4 field goals and there O and D lines were superior to ours. Don’t kid yourselves. We are an Average Football team at best.Thats right I said it. And I have been a Bucs fan long before many of you were born.

  18. Herbiebuc Says:

Omg the Bucs fans are the worst!! The chiefs have underperformed in every game they played this year but they are 11-1 do you think the chiefs fans are complaining about a tuff win! These types of wins is what brings a team closer we supposed win two more exactly like this! I am a happy Bucs fan rn ! The defense showed up when it was time the offense did the same thing! This is a division game it was never going to be a blow out like Joe predicted! The raiders just did the same with the chiefs. Where is the excitement for Anthony Nelson or Bucky Irving! We are the only fan base that complains after a win !

“long game” thought process moving forward:

protect ray jay and win the final 3 there…

    raiders
    panthers
    saints

go back on the road for 2 games in a row again:

    chargers
    cowboys

and at least win one of those two on the road…

and then see how things pan out for the division

  20. firethecannons Says:

Yeah well the Panthers are not as bad as they were. Thielen had a good game. Bryce Young was able to get the ball off before every pass rush–so much cushion. Ughhh

  21. David Says:

The Panthers have clearly been playing better the last few weeks, but their defense is still atrocious and the Buccaneers should’ve put this game away in the first half. They really need to learn how to change it up and adapt when they’re not getting what they want. Running game was good, but the passing game was atrocious for a long time

  22. Buc4evr Says:

At least Atlanta lost and SF is getting there Azzes handed to them in the snow tonight.

  23. Dave Pear Says:

The Glazers fired Dungy after a playoff loss. It’s obvious – The Loser is a Loser, his players won today in spite of The Loser.

    The Glazers have had enough.

  24. First Last Says:

Bryce Young looked like he did in college. He was escaping the pocket to make meaningful plays. Baker’s first interception was a give away by I think Cade Otton, and the second one he looked high as a kite coming back from that injury. For those who didnt watch the game, Barton looked HORRIBLE in the first half. Also, some of those throws have to be forced because not a single one of our receivers gets separation. I think next year will be a lot better when we get starters back on defense and draft more defensive players. Maybe another receiver if Palmer/McMillan don’t shape up. We are playing practice squad guys out there and winning games. That helps develop depth in the long run.

The Joes psych this hot air outta the fake fans to get clicks. Not all of us are frauds. I’m thrilled right now cos my team broke the OT curse and won. BTW, wonder how many Chiefs’ wins were helped by the other ‘team’ known as refs?
