New Bucs ILB Deion Jones A Forgotten Bucs Hero?

December 12th, 2024

Owns key piece of Bucs history.

It was inching toward the end of the 2019 season. It was the first season with Bucco Bruce Arians as coach.

Arians, the quarterback whisperer, was hired specifically to see if he could save America’s Quarterback, Mr. Entertainment, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston.

In Week 15, the Bucs clobbered the Lions in Detroit. Jameis threw four touchdown passes. With Jameis in a contract year, it looked as if the Arians experiment worked. Jameis was the franchise quarterback.

That lasted a week.

In the final two games of the season, Jameis threw six picks and the Bucs went 0-2 to finish 7-9.

Arians has since said those final two games of 2019 forced the Bucs to look behind Door No. 2.

The final straw for Arians was in the final game against the Dixie Chicks. Jameis threw a pick-six to Deion Jones in overtime.

The Bucs looked behind Door No. 2 and found Tom Brady.

Some 13 months later, in their own crib, the Bucs slobbered all over the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

Joe brings this up because the Bucs signed Jones to the practice squad. Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles all but promised Jones will see playing time at linebacker because the Bucs are beyond thin there.

So it has come full circle. The man who helped force the Bucs to look for a new quarterback and bring Brady into town is now playing for the Bucs.

Should Jones have some sort of plaque raised in the Glazer Shed?

If they start giving out plaques for Jameis picks, they’re going to go broke.

Well, I guess it’s good to have another body and I’m hoping for the best obv, but the dude couldn’t stick with the Panthers last year. Proof that there’s nothing but scraps out there this time of year.

A great pickup, Bowles will coach him up and maybe it won’t take a year.

    H3lll yeah!!!!!

He should not have to pay for a meal or drink in Tampa for the rest of his life!

    Thank you!!!!

Belichick just signed with UNC. I’ll be watching him since my daughter is in school there and I go to games. It will be interesting how he manages the portal and recruiting….

Funny how things work out and a negative can turn into a HUGE positive. Life lesson in this story right here!

I’m glad we got him. Even if he is a water boy, Light has to be honored to give him a contract.
When Winston threw the last pick 6 to him I knew that was the end of our frustrations. But men did it get better.

Two SuperBowls and two WINS!!!!! We are nfl fans of something rare.

Winston’s first regular season pass as a Buc was a pic 6. His last regular season pass as a Buc was a pic 6. Talk about book ends!

I love watching Winston play for somebody else!!!!

Truth! Even with the ints, if Jameis closes out that final game of the season beating the Falcons in overtime ending up 8-8 and it would have been a difficult decision to walk away from Jameis at that point.

I’ll go even further that would have compounded those decisions, because context is important, Jameis was playing with a fractured thumb for the last quarter of that season, and his receiving core was depleted down the stretch, last 2 games, no Evans, no Godwin… Perriman would end up with 3 straight 100-yard games as I recall which help land him a contract elsewhere. How does that season end if both Evans and Godwin are able to close out that season?

It’s nice to have peace of mind that Jameis hasn’t changed, and that we didn’t miss out on anything. To this day he could not shake the dumb. I was slightly concerned when Jameis did the noble thing of taking a salary cut to work behind future hall of famers in Peyton and Brees that perhaps he would fix his issues and become a franchise QB again. After 4 seasons he FINALLY gets a chance to showcase what he’s learned and he’s still the same guy from 2019. smh.

As painful as that game was to suffer through, it did set into motion the quest for Lombardi # 2. Matt Gay-Blade chipped in by missing 3 chip shots I believe.

The clownish immature Jameis Winston must be the only QB in NFL history to have his first pass INT’d for his team and his last pass INT’d. Both pick sixes. What a record to hold. Perfect for this immature buffoon.

  16. Bucswin! Says:

Picks are bad. Pick-sixs are the worst. Defense gets scored on without even being on the field. How many pic6s has Mayfield thrown this year?

  17. Kenton Smith Says:

Where’s Britt? You know Harbaugh is gonna want to run the ball. Anyone know what his status is for Sunday?

  18. Irishmist Says:

Watching Winston play QB is like watching a multi-car pile up. You cringe, but you can’t look away.
