More Studious Than Tom Brady?

Todd Bowles spent three years around Tom Brady, one as head coach. So Joe demanded silence at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters this week when Bowles named the most football-studious player he’s ever seen.
That would be third-year Bucs cornerback Zyon McCollum, Bowles told SiriusXM NFL Radio.
“He studies more than anybody I’ve ever seen,” Bowles said.
“And he’s one of the first guys out on the practice field every day working on his technique. Now I’ll be yelling at him this week because I didn’t like his technique [Sunday in Dallas], but he is determined to be a very good player in this league. He wants to be great. He studies to be great and he works at it constantly. He’s a heck of an athlete and the game has really slowed down for him.”
Joe hoped for better from McCollum this season, but he’s had a good year in his first season as a full-time starter. Unlike his predecessor, Carlton Davis, McCollum hasn’t missed a game.
McCollum battled through a hamstring issue to lead the Bucs in passes defensed with 12 and he’s proven to be a legit starter.
Damn good for a fifth-round draft pick.
On the Buccaneers Radio Network this week, assistant secondary coach Rashad Johnson added that McCollum does a great job with in-game adjustments and has stepped up his tackling.

Damn sure is better than Dean…….at least he can tackle…..I can’t believe how soft Dean has become…….
We need to draft 2 LBs & a CB this year.

Team needs to either find a lockdown CB or a beastly edge for the defense to take the next step here

Let’s not cheer average performance. The DBs are the weakest part of this team. Again.
How many times are we going to hear about poor technique? About them not doing what they were coached to do?
The Defense under Bowles has been so inconsistent.
So a guy studying a lot does not impress me much.

This just proves Bowles defensive scheme sucks donkey Bal#$%. Zyon for how studious and athletic he is, he really has played like crap this year!! Saw him lift his hands in disbelief Sunday after terrible breakdown coverages. Everyone blaming each other!!! Back Yard Football always playing like your a Man short is the best way to describe our defense. Go Bucs!!!

draft tacklers. ignore the offensive side entirely, unless a world class tight end that specializing in sealing the edge is too good to pass up. maybe a guard or a swing lineman – just in case. brederson’s contract i dunno. plenty of good tacklers to be had in mocks it seems. beware drafting edges too risky. find an established one or two outside the draft. dump dean and find a better bargain at the other corner. you can’t have too many DBs that can switch positions. more Tykees and Iziens. i know peeps hate taking LBs super early, but I don’t think we can wait too long. i’ve been taking at least two LBs in every mock. in licht we trust

If Zyon is so studious and works so hard on his technique why was Bowles not happy with it ? Zyon is obviously trying to do things the proper way. Could it be that he isn’t being coached properly. Why isn’t Bowles yelling at the coach to make sure that Zyon uses the proper technique ? Once again, something smells fishy.
Maybe Jackie is telling Bowles the fans think he needs to yell at the players more.

Soooo Zyon is one of the first guys out on the practice field every day working on his “technique” but suddenly after week 16 Bowles has to go Yell at about technique to the guy who studies the most. Someone should have really written a book based on his press conferences and interviews.

You are wrong on that. Dean has one of the lowest missed tackle rates in the NFL. He isn’t a hard hitting tackler by any means but he rarely misses them. If you want to call him soft by how routinely he checks out of games with injuries that’s fair. Or with his soft coverage but that’s probably more on Bowles. To the people trying to run Dean out of town, who are we replacing him with? The depth behind him was unplayable. He is a serviceable starter

Ok so it looks like McCarthy will be back w the Cowboys (thanks Todd), Ben Johnson interested in Bears , Not sure Giants release Diabol,, Jags? Raiders? NE? Jets,,,, Saints,, who else could be needing a HC???
Vrable is at the top , Johnson, Glenn , Coen ,,, so there may be a job out there ,, The Bucs need to make Liam Assistant Head Coach with the promise to take over HC 2026 ,,, this is a win win for everyone including Bowles who can move to the Front office

The Joes do a great job of writing a variety of stories about all those aspects of our team to keep the Bucs fans informed. And then our fans line up to lynch our head coach. Despicable. If Mayfield had fumbled that ball instead of Rachaad last week alot of these same fans would be treating him just like Bowles. Message to Todd Bowles and Baker Mayfield. Keep doing exactly what you’re doing. If you’re pis..ng people off that means we’re heading in the right direction. And you 2 are doing things right and we are heading in the right direction.

So great to hear Todd saying all those admirable things about Zyon. Thought for sure he would say Tom. Todd said he was going to be yelling at Zyon this week. That threw me too. I can’t imagine Todd yelling at anyone. Wish they would video tape that so we all can see.

For many years, DBs and Safetys seemed to be the #1 weakness on the BUCS. There seems to be coaching/scheme problem in TB.
Carlton Davis seemed to be the only consistent DB throughout the years and now he’s gone.
The BUCS have invested heavily on the offensive and defensive side of the ball seems to always let the DBs and Safetys remain “average” at best.
Antoine Winfield obviously is the best Safety we’ve had since John Lynch…..but he’s been hampered by injuries this whole season.

Zyon went to a small school and is a 5th pick. Dude is playing great in his 1st full season. Better than Dean and Zyon is available. Obviously he can be better but the way it sounds and looks he will keep progressing. I like the kid. Bright future ahead.

not a good scheme outdated does not work one good inside linebacker one half way good pt linebacker a couple of decent nose guards taking people working at best buy to play backfield tottal overhaul the league moves on

I like how Licht acquires good corners in the mid rounds of the draft. Corners get better on this team, not true for edge rushers.

My confidence in any words coming from Todd is at an all time low. In Zion’s defense I would say that he has exceeded expectations on the field but as of last week leaves some room for improvement. Studious or not.

I was a big fan of Dean and Davis at Auburn, loved how they started with Tampa. But injuries and big contracts made Davis expendable last year and I’m guessing Dean will be gone after the season. Zyon has great desire but still isn’t the caliber CB that either Dean or Davis were when they were playing for that second contract. The talent on D is so poor. Vita is the Man, Kancey is on his way, LVD still can have great games once in a while. The rest are bench warmers on most any other team. Frustrated fans can blame Bowles all they want, but this is not a talented roster on D.
