Mike Evans Versus A Fourth-Round Rookie

December 5th, 2024

“Tie your shoes tight, Mike.”

It’s Vegas week, so Joe has been immersed in all things Raiders.

It’s not pretty, so Joe might need an extra shower, but it is a good thing for the Bucs.

The Raiders have a ton of young players and backups on the field for their defense. Those defensive injuries have taken a toll, and they’re one reason Vegas has lost eight straight games.

Listening to Raiders Rundown on the team website, Joe was intrigued by the excitement surrounding rookie Raiders fourth-round pick cornerback Decamerion Richardson squaring up Sunday against Mike Evans.

Richardson, out of Mississippi State, has played in five games, has a couple of passes defensed and there’s some buzz in Vegas about how he’s played as a starter. Apparently, he matched up pretty well against Broncos WR Courtland Sutton two weeks ago, but keep in mind Richardson was the Vegas No. 4 cornerback entering this season.

Joe heard all this and started to drool. Evans against a fourth-round rookie? In Tampa.

Joe likes the sound of that. Evans hasn’t had back-to-back games of 100 or more yards receiving since 2020. Sunday could the next time he puts it on his resume.

Mike was nominated for Nfl man of the year earlier today. I hope he wins this year!

  2. bucnjim Says:

Win first yards second & I’m good with that.

  3. Kenton Smith Says:

Did anyone else notice Mike Evans after Diaby snatched up that fumble last Sunday? He jumped, skipped and hopped like a high school kid while running onto the field affixing his helmet tightly onto his head. His excitement was infectious. I knew we had the game won at that moment. I’d like to see that highlight again.

  4. John Sinclear Says:

Every dam time you guys start spouting off about how bad this or that rookie is, he burns Buc’s Butts! Remember how “bad” Bryce Young was? He almost frosted the Chiefs one week, and the Bucs the following week. If the kid is rostered in the NFL, he’s good.

  5. Tony Says:

As much as I want them to make the playoffs I don’t know if most of us want to deal with Bowles that much longer. If they make the playoffs then I think he might be staying.

  6. David Kilmer Says:

Yes Joe, but remember they have an exceptional tight end, which among numerous other things is a huge Buc defensive weakness. So yes hopefully we score a ton of points. Sad to say but with this defense, you can’t get enough points. Hopefully we don’t make the Raiders a look elite, but that is a staple of this defense.

  7. TheMightyVH Says:

Not many can match up with Big Mike. WAY MORE concerned about Bowers, Meyers and Abdullah scorching the Todd Bowles Cover Who defense. Even with OConnell they will scorch our defense.

  8. A Bucs Fan Says:

I hope Mike gets his 1k just because of how much he’s grinding this year.

  9. BuxfaninTX Says:

They’re probably thinking the same about Zion McCollum

  10. Boss Says:

can ME make it through a game w/o being injured.

just seems like every week now

  11. orlbucfan Says:

Can the Bucs make it through one game without an injury? We’ll see.

  12. Bobby M. Says:

If you think that’s a mismatch, wait until you see Britt cover Bowers. #1 TE in the league vs space…..

  13. David Pear Says:

If Mikey can go off for 200 yards and two TDs and Liam and Baker can conjure a 40 burger, Bucs have a chance.

  14. Upstate NY BUC Says:

Just have Winfield right from the 1st snap shadow and spy Bowers and let the chips fall in place.. Britt can help out if he’s not running around like a chicken with his head cut off!!!! Go Bucs

  15. BucU Says:

“”Can the Bucs make it through one game without an injury? We’ll see.””

    Answer: Absolutely not.

  16. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

We play against rookie corners about as well as we do against rookie QBs.

  17. SlyPirate Says:

Bucs are 2-4 at home. They’ve dropped the last 3 games.
Their home field pride left with TB12. Arians used to talk about winning at home all the time. Bowles hasn’t mentioned it once. No heart.

  18. GoneGator Says:

I think we need to be more worried about who else, besides Mike and Cade, can give us some consistent production catching the ball. Palmer or J-Mac would be nice but Miller, Jarret, or anybody else would work.

  19. Show Me the TDs Says:

Joe is no Nostradamus. Read the archives.

  20. Bucs And Them Says:

Sly Pirate…….Bingo!!! That right there has been up my craw. It’s a slap in the face of us Buc fans to see how our team shows up in our crib too often and play with no pride, sense of purpose, and no “this our field, our house, our day today!” That’s on coaching. Don’t think for a minute that escapes the Glazer family. 2-4 at home is unacceptable.

  21. Proudbucsfan Says:

I absolutely agree with you Sly & Bucs and them. I’m at many of the games and usually get tickets on the visitor side and scream and yell until my voice is gone. I haven’t been since the eagles game where I almost got into a fight with a gen Z’er who was probably confused about its gender. Non the less I’m going to this game with the raiders to yell and scream until my voice is gone and hope we squeak out a win but if we don’t I won’t be mad or upset because that will probably mean that Bowles will be launched and we will get a coach that will keep this team disciplined and we will start winning at home again.
