Mike Edwards May Miss A Game
December 4th, 2024The returning Bucs championship safeties have had rotten luck in their second go-around with their old team.
The Bucs won the Super Bowl for the 2020 season with safeties Jordan Whitehead and Mike Edwards playing critical roles. They returned this season and have been cursed by the injury bug.
Whitehead, who hasn’t resembled the same guy who bolted for the Jets in 2022, suffered a pec injury against the Giants. He doesn’t need surgery (yet) and is on injured reserve. Whitehead will miss at least three more games before he is eligible to return.
At best, Whitehead may play two games before the playoffs, if the Bucs make the playoffs.
Last week the Bucs brought back Edwards, essentially to replace Whitehead. But he pulled a hamstring Sunday in Carolina.
Per Jenna Laine of ESPN, Edwards may miss a game. Edwards suffered what is known as “Grade 1 hamstring strain,” per Laine. So on paper currently, he should be ready to play in Los Angeles against the Chargers.
As a precaution, the Bucs also brought back two former safeties this week.
Kaevon Merriweather, who played in 19 games the past two seasons with the Bucs but who was released recently, was plucked off the Lions practice squad.
Also, the Bucs signed and placed on their practice squad fan favorite Ryan Neal, who started for the Bucs last season. Joe understands Neal’s return won’t make Bucs fans rest comfortably.

Play Neal. Maybe he will buck the trend.

LOL Unless you are wanting a coaching change, you don’t want this.

Aidan O’Connell career day incoming.

Ryan Neal? Bro, we are so cooked

CHRIS CONTE IS COMING UP NEXT. We gotta see if we can still find him hidden in the stands somewhere after he was shoved into them in that Pittsburgh game.

Doesn’t matter who. As long as the Fearless Leader calls for 20 yard cushions and cover who zone, Ronnie Lott and Troy Polamalu would look like Laurel and Hardy.
Career day for Aiden O’Connell coming.

PS. – I tried to rewatch the game. It is too grotesque, cannot be watched. This is the worst loss I’ve ever watched where the other team somehow blundered worse than us. Despicable.

Ryan Neal? Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Hoping that Edwards heals well before the Chargers.

Ill throw up if I see Neal on the field.

The NFL has a massive injury problem in general. And this team has contributed to that fact in a very big way.

But the defense sucks because Todd can’t coach. Look at all this talent he has!
Just saw a report that the secondary has currently missed a collective 25 games due to injury so far. That is two players each game ( plus one ).
I will never say Todd is a great coach. It’s just ridiculous to read where people think the problem is more about the coach that is here than the players that are missing.

Ryan Neal?, desperate times, desperate measures. Is John Lynch available?

LOL!

Did someone say Sabby Piscitelli

With the Raiders, it should be simple enough, stop Bowers. Don’t play soft zone where he can just settle in a spot and make catch after catch after catch

Seriously, this injury-ridden season sucks big ones. How many 1st stringers are out this week? The usual bunch (including Joe) blame Bowles. Sure wish a few long time fans would post on here again. Drunk Bucs Fan, try writing that Bowles is competent. Then wait a nanosecond for the howling and gnashing of teeth to start. Go Bucs and slam the Raiders!!

What’s with the hairdo in the picture? Looks like part of his head caught fire at some point, and hair don’t grow back there anymore?

orlbucfan,
Yeah, I kind of thought I might be poking the bear by just saying he isn’t horrible. TB is a good coach. Not great, not awful. My line in the sand with him is if we get in this year I am good giving him one more year as long as we DON’T lose Coen.

Remember the year after the Super Bowl, when our entire ‘secondary’ was banged up/hurt/injured for the entire regular season… Hell, the first GAME they were ALL ‘healthy’ and ‘active’ together (all 11-starters), was not until the freaking PLAYOFFS!!!! So, nothing new to see here. It’s FOOTBALL. Nothing any ‘different’ going on across the league this season. I play DFS (therefore pay very close attention to EVERYBODY’S injury report), and have noticed for the past several weeks now, that most EVERYONE has been “active” most every week. At least, all of the top ‘skill-position’ guys (RB/WR/TE) on the Offensive side of the ball. Amazingly, really! Shockingly so, there are very few guys “OUT.” Outside of San Fran & Detroit’s Defense, most of these teams are extremely healthy, believe it or not. Especially, for this being THE NFL. Guess, all the ‘new rules’ are working… For Offensive Players, anyway.

why use 2 safeties then? put the best tackling corner out there at safety, or a third linebacker like Vi Jones or whoever. oh, wait, bowles can’t handle adjustments, changes, being called out, time (and prolly space), or any defensive alignment other than 3-4. so tired of this ridiculously predictable guy and his soft zone D designed to hand any third string QB an easy 15 play drive that eats nine minutes

Apparently I am a complete sociopath because i have zero empathy, and feel nothing but disdain for those that arent available. I do not know these people, they are not my friends, they are not my family. Wanting starters to be available for more than a game should be the most minimal, the very most baseline of expectations. This has become bigger than just a Bucs issue, this is an issue leaguewide. And why hasnt the league addressed it. WHY is it that players in the early 2000’s for example were more available. Why were there less injuries 20-30 years ago in a more violent. I have a pretty good as to why, but I would love for the NFL to acknowledge it the fact that these cupcake practices and rules changes are doing nothing to help prevent injury

Melvin spends 50 dollars on draftkings to come in 27,581th place out of 100k entrees, and takes a cursory look at the weekly injury reports so therefore he is an authority on this subject. Why aren’t you in vegas with the sharps setting the lines?!?!
