Luke Goedeke: Wait Till You See The Future

December 20th, 2024

Bucs RT Luke Goedeke.

So, what is the best position unit of the Bucs? Which area is playing the best?

Well, Joe supposes one could say defensive tackles. Teams don’t run well on Vita Vea and Calijah Kancey is really balling out.

Aside from that, it’s a toss-up between the running backs and the offensive line. But when you factor in Baker Mayfield has time to throw because of the line and the running backs are being aided by the offensive line, Joe would lean … offensive line.

Yesterday speaking to the local pen and mic club, Bucs right tackle Luke Goedeke suggested if you think the line is playing well now, just wait.

“This is our first year in the offense, so I feel like we’re continuing to grow with time,” Goedeke said. “We have two new guys on the O-line who haven’t played next to each other, with Graham [Barton] and Ben [Bredeson], so it’s about getting them more familiarized.

“We’re already starting to click more and more, so I think with time, it will only continue to get better and better.”

Very strong point by Goedeke. Let’s think about this for a moment. While Barton is certainly talented, he’s got room to grow. He’s starting to get flag-happy. Not good.

But let’s be real. Barton is a rookie. Does anyone really believe he’s already hit his ceiling? Wait until he gets a full offseason in an NFL weight room. He’ll be a different guy next year.

Then there is Ben Bredeson. He came from a rotten team. Joe bets there is still room for Bredeson to work the Giants out of him.

(Hat tip legendary former JoeBucsFan.com commenter “Thomas 2.2.”)

And yeah, the Bucs offensive line as a whole likely has only scratched the surface of what offensive line coach Kevin Carberry has in store — provided he doesn’t bolt if offensive coordinator Liam Coen gets a head coaching gig.

So yeah, Joe thinks Goedeke is really onto something here.

Need a BIG performance from these fellas Sunday night.

  2. Bucnjim Says:

For so many years during the history of the Bucs the offensive line was average or below. Great to see them dominate. Plus they are all pretty young! Looking forward to a bright future provided they all stay healthy. Coen may want to just stick with Mayfield or face a similar fate as Canales.

  3. Lt. Dan Says:

“This is our first year in the offense, so I feel like we’re continuing to grow with time,”. Elephant in the room…this coaching staff needs to stay together for continued progress. I’m looking at you Glazers. Open the vault for Coen.

  4. Hawk Says:

It doesn’t matter how much money the Glazers throw at Coen. If he thinks he is ready for a head coaching position, then he will be gone. IIRC, the NFL allows poaching if the new team is offering a ‘promotion’.

  5. ATLBuc Says:

The Glaziers simply cannot allow Liam to hit the market. They must name him head coach in waiting and pay him accordingly. If not, all of the progress this line, the running game and the offense will be lost.

  6. firethecannons Says:

well next Sunday they will be tested versus Micah Parson, hopefully Bucs can keep this unit within this offense by signing OC Coen

  7. Jeffrey Becker Says:

so he thinks coen is coming back?

  8. JimBobBuc Says:

Goedeke is having a great year and deserves to be All Pro, I hope he gets some kudos Sunday night.

With our strength at OT, Parsons will attack Baker right up the middle. With Barton’s holding calls recently, he will be targeted. Let’s see what Carbs and Coen have planned for Parsons.

I’m more concerned with Lamb and Turpin against our safeties. Can Vita and Kancey get in the face of Rush and prevent the deep throws?

The Bucs need to win out and that begins with trampling the Cowboys and showing the country how good the Bucs are. LFG, no letdown!!!

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

Trench warfare really is the way man. The now and the future looks so bright with a young o-line like this and Shake n Bake at QB.

  10. JayBuc Says:

Lets Remember: Goedeke is just in his third year (2nd if you count playing RT only). Mauch is in Year 2! Barton year 1! Stay healthy along with that guy play LT and this line will be even better in 2025!

  11. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

The Cowboys have standardly been fast on the D line but light in the pants. Hoping our O line can lean on them and wear them out with the run game. Get a lead and then body blow then to death.

  12. Jmarkbuc Says:

Sure would like to see more Sean Tucker early on in a game behind this line. Wear them out then let Bucky run wild..

  13. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Well, this game Sunday should be make or break for several reasons. Win, and we should win the NFC South. We are in the playoffs, maybe a bye, Bowles stays as HC and sweetness and light prevail.

Lose, and they will likely be out of the playoffs, Bowels gets fired at end of season, and we spend the off season in an uproar with new coach, system, and players.

Kind of a big game for Buc World.

  14. Lightningvinny Says:

Well Oregon I respectfully disagree w most of that,,, If we win it doesn’t lock up the NFC South and if we lose we don’t automatically miss the playoffs ,, we could still win the division and or get a wild card at 10-7,,,, I do agree that is is a big game though,,

  15. JReel Buc Says:

Bowles agent working hard to convince Glazers his defense was injured most of the year. Biggest mistake would be to let Coen go because you don’t want to upset the apple cart. ….if these morons do let him go I hope he goes to NFC south so he can beat the bucs twice a year

  16. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Pretty sure it was Thomas 2.0, not 2.2. Those of us who’ve been here from the beginning remember.

  17. Pmike Says:

Fans should not waste energy on things they cannot change. If Coen goes – so be it. He is with us another couple weeks so just simmer down and enjoy the show

  18. orlbucfan Says:

Like the face hair on Luke. Makes him look more studious than he already is. He took a real beating on here at the beginning. Cowjokes’ game will be another humdinger. If this Micah Parsons is such a defensive horror show, I HOPE Coen and Baker will scheme a bunch of QB options such as rollouts, etc. Go Bucs!! Bury the Cow patties!

  19. stpetebucsfan Says:

The temperament of this OL is also terrific with a few mean nasty guys mixed in to kick some serious ass. I like that the OL is able to set a PHYSICAL statement and then challenge the D to meet it.

The Bucs are not finesse that’s for sure. Even the creative finesse plays have some smashmouth mixed in.

  20. Jethro Tull Says:

Please show the RBs that clip of playoff Lenny humiliating Parsons A thing of beauty.

  21. VOT Says:

I love 4 outta 5 – Bredeson is a poor pass blocker – we can upgrade there still and have without a doubt the best OLine in the NFL
