Liam Coen Slips In Sad News About Cade Otton

December 27th, 2024

Troubling update.

Don’t try to tell Joe that the Bucs didn’t miss tight end Cade Otton against the Cowboys.

If you miss a starter, that’s bad. Otton had really raised his game since Mike Evans and Chris Godwin got hurt against the Crows.

In fact, Otton may have become the Bucs’ most reliable target with Evans and Godwin out (aside from running backs Bucky Irving and Rachaad White).

In praising the play against the Cowboys of Bucs backup tight end Payne Durham, offensive coordinator Coen tried to slip this past the local pen and mic club.

“I thought [Durham] did some nice things and can continue to grow from this experience and continue to get more reps as we go,” Coen said. “Knowing that he’s probably, most likely, going to be the ‘Y’ [receiver] moving forward.”

The “Y” receiver is the tight end.

That didn’t make Otton’s bad knee sound promising.

Since the start of last week, Otton has missed every practice with his bad knee except last Friday, when he only partially participated. His knee, however, was too injured to answer the bell in Dallas. He didn’t even make the trip.

So it seems Otton won’t be available on Sunday against Carolina.

We surely missed Otton last week. It’s a good sign he partially participated at the Friday practice. Little steps. Hope his rehab goes well and he is back for the Saints game fully recovered.

  2. Vanessa Anne Says:

I think the entire league noticed how Cade stepped up his game while Mike and Chris were both out.

Hoping he makes a full and speedy recovery soon.

    Next man up

  4. Lt. Dan Says:

    D@mn.!

  5. Stan says Says:

Love Cade Otton, what has always had me puzzled is all these guy’s are the best at their position most of the time. How the next man up who has played this game since they were probably 6 years old as football players. Seemly can’t catch a cold let alone a NFL pass on a consistent bases. If I did my job half-assesd like some of these guys I would not have a job. Like Cay day says: Next Man Up

  6. Danny Cuebas Says:

What’s the deal with Devin Culp, he’s not going to play with Otton out?

  7. BucsfaninOregon Says:

Draft the TE from Oregon or Ohio State. Need to be better than Otten (who has improved greatly this year). Need improvement still.

  8. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Cade took an unmerciful beating every week….it’s a wonder he lasted that long.

  9. Marky mark Says:

    Use the kid from Furman

  10. RagingBrisket Says:

Great opportunity for Durham to show what he has. Kid is big with good hands coming out of college

  11. Canabuc Says:

I’m pretty sure that our top 4 picks next year in no specific order need to be edgerusher, interior linebacker, cornerback and wide receiver.
I think our draft position and who’s on the board in the first round will dictate which one. would be the best choice. I do think that inter linebacker should not be drafted before the 3rd round and I think one of cornerback edge rusher or wide receiver should be a first round pick.

  12. Cybetsecurity_intern Says:

What do you mean by miss him? Are you saying that nbdy dropped a pass?

  13. Badbucs Says:

Canabuc it will depend on the FA market. We will be a buyer this year. Godwin could figure in the equation too.

Otton took a lot of punishment aka dirty hits including that Ravens game that knocked CG14 out for the season. The Bucs are lucky they have a chance with these last two games. They have been the walking critically wounded pretty much all season. They’ve had to deal with 3 OCs in the last 3 seasons! All I see on here is fire Bowles. I’m sick of reading it. How about pointing out what I just wrote? I hope the Baltimore Ravens crash and burn big time. Tampa Bay has had a pretty darn good run in spite of it all. I will be rooting for them these final two games. BTW, there is a good possibility of rain in Central FL Sunday. Go Bucs!
