Jalen McMillan Is On Fire

December 29th, 2024

Jalen McMillan hopes over the goal line for a score Sunday.

Right when many rookies have hit the infamous rookie wall or even succumbed to it (even Bucky Irving admitted he’s struggling with the wall), wide receiver Jalen McMillan is beating the rookie wall like the East Germans did to the Berlin Wall late last century.

McMillan is on fire. He now has six touchdowns in his last four games, including two today against the Stinking Panthers.

On one touchdown, he came across the middle from right to left and was wide ass open.

Joe asked McMillan, who has blown up since Mike Evans has become fully healthy, if his success is as simple as defenses are keying too much on Evans and he’s taking advantage.

He didn’t exactly deny that.

“Yeah, they played certain coverages that just I popped on,” McMillan told Joe.

There was one difference, McMillan told Joe. Last week in practices it was drilled down to McMillan that he must be ready for a pass at any moment anywhere on the field.

McMillan took those instructions to the turf of The Licht House and the directive worked like a charm.

It’s the third game in a row that McMillan has caught five passes. That’s a career-high for him.

Like Tristan Wirfs told Joe, McMillan admitted the offense was mentally dialed in today.

“We just attacked practice really well,” McMillan said. “We were really detail-sound.”

Joe hopes it is like that every week from here on out, however long that may be.

I told you guys. J-Mac is well on his way to being another explosive, and dependable weapon.

I’m seeing why some people thought he was Washingtons best receiver including our scouts.

He’ll turn out to be a steal and hopefully a productive part of offense for years to come.

JM15 is living up to all the pre season hype! It couldn’t come at a better time!! I believe coach LC deserves some of the credit too! His playbook makes the safeties guess which receiver to shadow! While

  3. infomeplease Says:

While we must also give credit to the O-line for buying BM6 some time for the plays to develop! Great game today! We really need two in a row for starters!!!!

  4. MJ Says:

he’d be nothing w/o ME13, they use him as a DECOY

  5. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

As I said at the beginning of the season, Jalen McMillan was a possible replacement for Chris Godwin. Godwin literally out-priced himself for the Bucs with his play. He was on his way to the Pro Bowl and most likely would been with another team….until his unfortunate injury. I think the Bucs will now be able to sign him for a 1 year contract in the low 20’s. If not, Jalen will be picking up Godwin’s spot next year as #2.

  6. Pmike Says:

I have the unsettled feeling that they won’t be playing for Godwin to come back next year. I hope I’m wrong….

  7. Tbbucs3 Says:

Jason Licht got the best receiver out of Washington, even though he was drafted last out of the 3

    Bravo

  8. Anyhony Says:

(side note) why did Baker want that ball back, was it some kind of record?

  9. Tbbucs3 Says:

If the draft was held today, Bucky Irving would easily be a first round pick and McMillan a early second round pick.

    Two absolute steals right there

  10. Durango 95 Says:

Liam Coen has done an amazing job getting outstanding performances from so many of his young rookie players. We even saw 7th rounder Devin Culp (not related to Nancy) get himself a good snout full of action today. Guy never makes excuses. Awesome coach.

  11. Citrus County Says:

Wait until JMc puts on just a few pounds of muscle and gets his man body.

  12. Upthegut Says:

Antonio Brown 2.0 minus the brain damage.

  13. #99thebigfella Says:

    MJ , You sound constipated..

  14. Buddha Says:

But for lady-luck this should have clinched the NFC South. We lost a game we had won in Atlanta when Bucky fumbled and the referees missed a face .ask penalty. We lost at Dallas on White’s fumble. We won at Carolina when they fumbled in overtime in field goal range

  15. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

IAnyhony: I’ll respond to your question which rarely anyone does here. That was Baker’s 5th TD & he either never threw for 5 TDs in an NFL game before or he only did it a few times so he wanted the ball.

  16. Anyhony Says:

Thanks Jason, I was at the bar and couldn’t hear.

  17. Anyhony Says:

Florio just said the ball was for Culp.

  18. Zoocomics Says:

Can you imagine him as our WR3. Be nice if we can keep Godwin at reasonable price, his market can’t be that hot, his relatively injury prone every other season at this point, and his approaching 30.

These max contracts we’re handing out needs to settle. I love how Licht almost makes it a point of emphasis like it’s something to be proud of. We supposedly have team first guys, and yet make as much as the highest paid DB or OT isn’t enough, we have to exceed it. Never going to win a championship if we can’t spread that cap wealth around.

  19. Jethro Tull Says:

Cmon Coach – don’t let the team have its traditional post-great game lull. Show them the Cowgirls film all week and tell them to get cranium out of rectum every day.

  20. SenileSenior Says:

I hoped that McMillan might emerge from the WR pack when Godwin went down. He has. Should we find ourselves in the playoffs it is important.

    Go Bucs!

  21. Gipper Says:

    JasonAnthonySturgess,

Mayfield has thrown for 5TD before with Browns. He was trying to get ball back for Culp who had his first NFL TD and threw the ball into the stands.

  22. Tom Says:

    @Gipper
The ball for #87 Payne not for Culp #82

  23. Big Schlong Says:

We’ll be 1 and done in the playoffs. Team is ass. We need a qb and evans old ass needs to go

  24. Daniel Z Says:

It took him a bit of time to get his footing, but he’s been a great boost to the offense over the past 1.5 months.
