“It Doesn’t Need To Be Talked About”

December 24th, 2024

So the Bucs will have everything on the line Sunday at home against the Panthers. But don’t expect coaches to be drilling that into players all week.

Nope.

“It doesn’t need to be talked about,” Todd Bowles said today regarding the urgency of the Bucs’ situation.

If you’ve just returned from a WiFi-free zone in Canada, the Bucs are 8-7 and tied with the Falcons atop the NFC South, but the Falcons own the tiebreaker with two games to play. The Bucs kick off at 1 p.m. and the Falcons will roll at the Commanders on Sunday Night Football.

The Bucs are taking a very business-as-usual approach. Keep grinding and shut out the noise (allegedly), but Bowles says he won’t be drilling it into the team that, if all goes wrong, the Bucs could be out of the playoffs by Sunday night.

Joe finds it interesting. There is no right or wrong way to approach, but some coaches would be hammering away at the Super Bowl nature of Sunday’s game against Carolina.

Joe does hope Todd Bowles finds a new wrinkle to fire up his team Sunday, even if it isn’t tied to the standings. The Bucs haven’t played very well at home (3-4) and that must end in a hurry.

You couldn’t fire up Todd Bowles if you lit firecrackers in his pants

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Todd…just tell them “If you want to get me fired…lose this game”

  3. Pewter Power Says:

The urgency of trying to get your team to the playoffs doesn’t need to be talked about. Yep that about sums up Todd Bowles demeanor and’s probably why the Bucs have games like they did Sunday night. I hope his name is on the list of fired coaches when black Monday comes. At the same time Liam Coen seems just as laid back like he’s not really ready to be a head coach

  4. WestCoastBucsFan Says:

I hope something lights up the Bucs this week. The Cowboys played like the game mattered, regardless of their playoff hopes being officially dead. We should, too. And we better these last two games, if not for the playoffs than at least for pride and dignity! And let’s get Mike Evans his 1000 yard season. If I’m being honest, I think I care more about that than a short playoff run anyway.

  5. ToesOnTheLine!!! Says:

If “shut down two backup QB’s and one (likely a) bust, and we’re in the playoffs!” couldn’t motivate the team what more is there one can say to them the next two weeks to light a fire under their collective as$es? There really was no excuse for the lack of intensity vs Dallas. I guess keep fighting, beat two crap division rival teams and hope Atlanta screws the pooch these next two games.

  6. Mike Johnson Says:

If Bowles tells them they have to win because it means him being their HC next year? They will surely lose.

  7. Citrus County Says:

So how is that “business as usual” thing working so far ?

  8. Lightningvinny Says:

Beat QBs Herbert , Hurts , Daniels , Goff,,
Lost to Rush, Nix , Cousins 2x
    That makes total sense lol

  9. Permanently Moderated Says:

I guess he coaches via osmosis. 🙄

  10. Buchen61 Says:

The difference between Todd Bowles defense and a bucket of 💩 is the bucket

  11. Mac Says:

    Spot on Buchen!

  12. Stillabucsfan Says:

    2-5 in one score games
    Should have beaten Atlanta
    Should have beaten Kansas City
    Should have beaten San Fran
    Should have beaten Dallas
Should be 12-3 with the second seed in the nfc
We need a Dan Campbell, someone to fire these young guys up. Bowles just isn’t the guy, no matter how much “the players love and rave about him”.

  13. D-Rok Says:

Wrong answer, wrong message. Blowes needs (NEEDS!) to be screaming at his team: “Wake the F up! We are about to be overrun by the enemy unless you come out your foxholes screaming piss and vinegar!”

I get the whole “you are an NFL player” but c’mon man. Motivate your troops. Inspire them to play to their talent.

    #PatheticMessage

  14. D-Rok Says:

McCarthy got the BEST out of his players. Save for the SB defense, I’ve NEVER seen Bowels “motivate” his players, and there are countless examples over the last 3 years of listlessness. I can’t stand it.

Sorry, but had enough, so I’m gonna get on board fully with:

    #FireBowles.

  15. Jethro Tull Says:

Soft head coach = soft team.

The Bucs HC is the worst at teaching and calling situational football that I e ever seen.

  16. Bucs4EverMore Says:

Let’s get this straight, Baker routinely gets the S _ not beat out of him, lot of drops this Season, the Pass Rush (joke) has been on the Opposing team, and Special teams well who are You Kidding. Its Painfully Clear Our Defense is “Wishful Thinking”, does it Really Help when Vea drops back? Please let Liam or Baker or Lavonte or Someone who Really Cares, “Speak” for the Team.

  17. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Well let me see…. the stiff upper lip and stoic unemotional face isn’t working so why not try some emotion and beat that drum??? Since the players listen to outside voices use their team voices to say “WE NEED TO WIN THE NEXT TWO GAMES!!! every day!

  18. Citrus County Says:

Any coach especially an NFL Head Coach should have the ability to evaluate their own coaching practices and adapt to changing circumstances.

Business as usual stands in defiance of the above statement.

    Circumstances have changed.

  19. UKBuccaneer Says:

Screaming and yelling at millionaire football players isn’t likely to be a successful tactic – anyone who knows anything about leadership will tell you that. Coaching is the answer. It seems that Bowles indeed failing at that – but it’s not because he doesn’t about enough.

  20. Saskbucs Says:

Todd has a lot of respect for his players, which is great, but starting to seem like maybe he has too much respect for them. Lots of Tuesday’s off, pro players know what to do so let’s bypass fundamentals and work on dropping our pass rushers into coverage. They are all super smart so let’s make every player on D learn every position on D so I can confuse the other team to the tune of 300+ yards for guys like Cousins, Rush, Young etc.

  21. Citrus County Says:

One doesn’t have to scream and yell to be emphatic. Bowles doesn’t seem to place enough emphasis on the performance of the coaching staff and players.

  22. BAKERSBucs says Says:

It’s a shame the biggest loser on the bucs is baker he puts 120% every game & the rest of the team did not have his back with his play this year we shud b 11&4 rite now because of his play the defense & the drop passes r a huge let down even in Dallas he had this game won WTF

  23. Brandonbucc Says:

The secondary is garbage. Can’t stop any passes. White needs to be let go, he’s garbage.

  24. Brandonbucc Says:

Fire bowls…hire the OC as head coach

  25. Citrus County Says:

Simple analysis and simple solution; Coaching staff changed on the offense and the offense improved. Coaching staff on defense remained the same and performance decreased. Head coach remained and head coach performance patterns and errors remained the same. Changes need to be made for performance to improve.

  26. Saskbucs Says:

That’s a good angle as well Citrus County. Can put that over 2 seasons now… Leftwich < Canales < Coen.

During this time we see the same thing throughout the season on D and the entire team as a reflection of our HC, wins turned into losses with conservative game strategy and clock mismanagement, flat games, game winning drives in the last minute against our D with QBs racking up season high, if not career high numbers.

Window is open with a top 5 offense, a top 12 QB, some key defensive pieces and some cap space to blow… we are gonna go for another round wth Bowles and expect different results? Laughable.

  27. TheBigSombreo Says:

Bucs win, Falcons lose to the Redskins.

    Thats what needs to happen.

  28. HC Grover Says:

We will take down the Panters and all become Commode fans for a day as they eliminate The Falcons. Another division title and The Sideline Stiff will be back next year. The Stanks have no chance. Bet the ranch. Playoff cash is on the field.

  29. unbelievable Says:

Todd Bowles has never had a sense of urgency about anything.

Play it cool, play it safe, .500 record here we come.

  30. WeekiJerry Says:

I don’t get all the fire Bowles rhetoric. Do these people remember how bad this team has been overcome years. The defense has been devastated by injuries this year. We lost to the Cowboys because of dropped passes turnovers and playing with a depleted secondary and still had an opportunity to win at the end. Stop the whining

  31. Not My NFL! Says:

@westcoast ,,If you would rather see us get evans his precious 1000 yrds. and not make the playoffs then you are not a fan of the Bucs and only want to date mikey.

  32. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Bucky#7 gets his 1000 and Evans gets his 1000 Sunday means White will run for atleast 60 yards and Baker will throw at least 3 tds. If you don’t want Evans who will be the only Bucs offensive player to go to the HOF and the greatest receiver in Bucs history to get that record then you’re not a Bucs fan and going by your screen name Not My NFL! you ain’t one just like these Baker fanboi(s) who followed him here. True Buc fans want him to get that record. He and the Bucs deserve it

  33. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

WeekiJerri his defense has never been that great and he’s never been bad enough to suck and never good enough to be great hence his record as a head coach means he’s middling one reason why some of us couldn’t accept Baker until now. At least Baker has turned it around and being the best he can be. He still has issues against good defenses however Bowles has not improved because he’s too stubborn and nose blind to his own arrogance. Bucs fans have seen enough of bad coaching not to accept mediocre.
