How Stoked Was Todd Bowles For The Dixie Chicks-Commandos Game? He Slept.

December 30th, 2024

Head on the pillow.

Joe doesn’t know one Bucs fan that wasn’t watching the game last night between the Dixie Chicks and the Commandos.

If the Commandos won, then the Bucs would land back in first place with one game to go and a win away from the team’s fourth-straight NFC South crown.

While Bucs fans were glued to the tube, the man in charge of the Bucs snoozed.

That’s what Todd Bowles confessed today. While “The Krewe” was riveted, Bowles was sawing logs.

“I was actually asleep,” Bowles said. “Saw the results this morning.”

Now that is one focused coach. Bowles knows full well it doesn’t matter in the big picture what happened last night. If the Bucs don’t take care of business against the slimy Saints come Sunday, last night’s game may have been much ado about nothing.

So Joe can tell Bowles is locked in.

  1. Rich Says:

Yeah, he’s locked in alright…acts like he’s asleep on the sidelines too….notvto mention the middle part of the schedule every damn season…a trend not an accident!!

  2. EEK Says:

    Penix is a good player
    He was clutch last night
Hopefully he’ll start getting figured out

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

From the camera angle I thought that 56yard FG was good & we were toast….

  4. Steven #55 Says:

I didn’t watch it – but in my defence the game didn’t start to 01:20 in the morning in my time zone. I did check at 6am though to see if we still topped the division.

  5. Simeon4HOF Says:

Doubt he saw the results this morning. And why tell all ‘awe no big deal I was sleep’. Lol smh

  6. KABucs Says:

… and Bowles gets up at like 3:00 a.m. No way he was going to watch that game when he needed his energy for game planning the Saints on Mon.

  7. ir8oldman Says:

I couldn’t watch it either, Aneurism in waiting for me especially when they tied it up on efn 4th down…. So I snuck a peek around Midnight and it was a glorious nights sleep.

  8. Jethro Tull Says:

    Good job, coach.

  9. Pewter Pirate Says:

EEK: Was not as impressed with Penix. Two games hard to judge. Saw some good and saw a lot of Jameis in Penix fumbles, bad interception, high overthrown balls, 54% completion percentage and like Jameis as well with a roped throw to a receiver

  10. Simeon4HOF Says:

Guess he means as in 3 am ish lol. Love the focused part about Todd.
Hopefully our D can focus better in playoffs

  11. Davenport Says:

The least he could was lie and say he was fully engaged to the end.

He’s survived for two years on decent OCs but win or lose, he’s gotta go at the end of the year.

You don’t win a SB with this guy.

  12. Simeon4HOF Says:

Coach got that sleep through the storm faith

  13. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Been a fan since day 1 of the franchise. I bitch and moan about Bowles and his defense but having lived through so many Bucs dark ages, I won’t take for granted meaningful football in December and January. Hope Bucs can win next Sunday, no injuries and shore up their defense to make a run. Go Bucs!

  14. Chris Says:

    That says a lot

  15. Pmike Says:

Of course I wa dropping for the falcons to lose, but overall want to see Penix succeed.

He is a Tampa Tech boy after all!

  16. Nobody Special Says:

It’s almost certain that some team is going to poach Liam Coen from the Bucs. Truth is he is too valuable to lose. So here is what the Bucs hierarchy should do. Demote Todd Bowles to defensive coordinator and promote Coen to head coach.

  17. Bosch Says:

Bowles has a penchant for lying. This is just another example.

  18. GoneGator Says:

Too bad the team can’t fire fans. Some of y’all would be looking for new teams to root for 🙄

  19. Joe in Michigan Says:

Nobody Special: The problem is that Bowles isn’t a good DC, either (he’s been figured out and can’t/won’t adjust). Just fire him and be done with it.

  20. Jethro Tull Says:

Apparently freedom of speech is troublesome to some, who would prefer censorship so only the roses and candy sprinkles get published.

    Absolutely. No. Criticism.

    Or, just be gone, gator.

  21. BucsFan81 Says:

Nice to know Bowles was asleep while rest of us were sweating the game out hoping for a falcons loss. A position we shouldn’t have been in if Bowles defense wasn’t asleep at the wheel most of the season.

  22. Crickett Baker Says:

Several players (in their interviews) said they weren’t going to watch it, either. I was surprised.

  23. View from 132 Says:

Scoreboard and standings and tie breakers are for fans. These guys play the next game on the schedule. That’s it.

  24. heyjude Says:

I think Coach goes into One Buc Place 3 or 4 a.m. I can understand him getting some sleep.

  25. BucsfaninOregon Says:

I watched Penix beat my Oregon Ducks 2-3 times.. The guy has a rocket launcher for an arm. However, he is inconsistent with the long ball. If he corrects that he’ll be a world beater. If not, he’ll be another Jamis Winston.

  26. AMI_Chris Says:

I made it all the way to the end of OT. The game was a gut-wrencher. Need to catch up on my sleep tonight.

  27. Scotty Mack Says:

I don’t blame Bowles. I, too, was tired and started dozing of during the ultra important game. I got up and did a few chores while watchin g the game to get the blood flowing again and made it to the end. Man, did the former Skins do everything they possibly could to lose that game?

The Skins win was uber-important. I had zero confidence the Falcons would lose to the Panthers next week and the same skepticism that Washington would lose to Dallas. When you look at the difference between Bucs wins and losses and the Falcons’, the only real difference is that the Bucs beat the Commanders and the Falcons didn’t. That one shared opponent may very well be the difference between winning and losing the division this year.

  28. Anyhony Says:

Some Tools don’t get what freedom of speech means.

  29. Hodad Says:

I’m 69 an early riser, I’m sure Bowles is too. I tried to stay up to watch, but the only team I do that for is the Bucs. I was happy to see the results this morning. Go Bucs.

  30. orlbucfan Says:

I was sleeping, too. So, what’s with all the complaints? Bowles is a HC for crissakes. His team just won 48-14. No telling when he last slept normally. I am beginning to wonder more and more about this site??

  31. Bakerfan Says:

He and his defense sleeps through Bucs game also

  32. Joe Says:

I am beginning to wonder more and more about this site??

Joe had no issue with Bowles sleeping. The guy gets up at Chucky time. Often is in the office before 5 a.m. Probably was breaking down tape right after the game until he went to bed. Coaches are human too. Long week ahead. He couldn’t control the Sunday night game. May as well get some shuteye while he can.

Joe just thought it was amusing that the guy who may have most to gain from the results of that game was snoozing. 🙂

  33. orlbucfan Says:

You’re excused, Joe. Gawd forbid, when AI becomes the norm for NFL coaches.

  34. RustyRhinos Says:

GoneGator, Very well said,”Too bad the team can’t fire fans. Some of y’all would be looking for new teams to root for 🙄” I Totally agree!!

    GO!!!!!BUCS!!!!!

  35. RustyRhinos Says:

Some Tools don’t get what freedom of speech means. Does that “freedom” not go both ways or is it just one side view?

  36. Nicholas Carlson Says:

I do not care one tiny little bit about Bowles’s demeanor on the sideline. I care about his record, which is still mediocre, but (very) slowly improving. Would be great to see a breakout 14 win season next year. Need an edge rush for some natural pressure to go with the schemed up stuff.
