“He Knows He Can’t Be Blocked Right Now”

December 18th, 2024

Want to win playoff games? Have a stud quarterback and true playmakers on both sides of the ball.

And the best long-range kicker in the history of the NFL is a bonus, too.

The kicker is Chase McLaughlin, the Bucs’ big leg that Joe’s almost afraid to write about as not to jinx the franchise. Man, after a multiple shanks, Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht has become the kicking scout of the decade.

So what about those playmakers. Do the Bucs have them? The sure do.

It’s a reason why Joe was unwilling to celebrate the Bucs’ near stumble against three-win Carolina two weeks ago. This team is too talented to have had that kind of performance in a must-win game.

One playmaker is second-year defensive tackle Calijah Kancey, who got the ultimate compliment this week from head coach Todd Bowles.

“It’s scary because he’s a very smart player,” Bowles said of Kancey via WFLA.com. “… He’s seeing everything. And he knows he can’t be blocked right now and he’s playing like that. And we love it.”

Unblockable. Joe can’t think of higher praise, and Bowles isn’t one to toss out superlatives like Baker Mayfield throws interceptions.

Which horse is going to put the defense on his back and take some of the load off Lavonte David?

It feels like we’re climbing back on the high horse. And Cee Dee Lamb can knock us back off. Don’t let it happen!

  2. Mike Says:

Kancey came on strong at the end of the season last year in the playoffs. Let’s hope he is ramping up for an encore performance at the end of this season!

  3. Bucfan Says:

Will the Bucs win a game that they SHOULD win? Sure hope there is not the usual drop off of effort after a big win.

  4. Dick Stroud Says:

The fact that a “journalist” can’t tell the difference between “right” and “write” is insane. The Bucs have way too many faux reporters.

  5. BigPoppaBuc Says:

He looks just like he did this time last year. Healthy, confident and hungry. Going to be a game wrecker in the playoffs.

  6. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Hmmmm…What were Kancey’s stats last weekend? Did he have any sacks?

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m still looking for an answer to this question “When is the last time our defense tipped or batted a ball down?”

    I’m waiting….

  8. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

So Kancey had 2 QB hits on the stat sheet. Absolutely nothing else. Vita didn’t even make the stat sheet.

  9. Lord Cornelius Says:

Whatever stats they had or didn’t have, we held the Chargers to 208 total yards on 48 plays. That’s about as good as it gets and I’ll take that every week lol

  10. Slacker Says:

That’s just perfect…being cocky and overconfident but yet not showing up on the stat sheet

  11. Jethro Tull Says:

And yet Kirk Cousins, who stank out loud against the rest of the NFL, looked like prime Dan Marino against Coach’s zone defense. Hopefully we’ve seen the last of that.

  12. Lord Cornelius Says:

“being cocky and overconfident but yet not showing up on the stat sheet”

This story is about a Todd Bowles quote not a Calijah Kancey quote. I’d sure hope Bowles isn’t on the stat sheet.

And for the stat freaks he has 6 sacks in 9 games. He is going to push close to 10 sacks despite missing 5 games. From the DT position. Wow he sucks!! lol.

Wtf is with you guys today

  13. Jethro Tull Says:

Kancey will dine on Cooper Rush stew Sunday Night. Expecting an outburst. Keep CeeDee Sheep doubled and Michelle Parsons on his back and Bucs should be good.

  14. OR Buc Says:

And how about Logan hall with 4.5 sacks!

  15. 941bucsfan Says:

Lol. How do they think lavonte was getting thru the line? Who do you think free’d him up? Also for Zone vs Man guys.. yall gotta understand the bucs are one of the worst tackling teams in football. They blitz the 3rd highest in the league.. imagine blitzing as much as tampa does, then playing man coverage, and missing tackles as much as tampa does…. It would be no more 10 play drives for TDs, it would be house calls on the 3rd play from scrimmage.

Its a reason why coaches like bowles and now Brian flores who has a history of playing man defense, both play so much zone, they don’t have the horses to play man, and missed tackles can take it to the house. The bucs have to play a softer zone, because they cant generate pressure even tho they blitz so much. Play tight zone and you’re giving up 20 yard chunks all game long.

  16. DBS Says:

He shows up when the other team screws up and blows their assignments. Otherwise they take him out of the plays. Or he is late getting there. Yes he can be blocked just watch and you will see it all game every game unless it I is a JV offense like the Giants.

  17. TampaBayBucFan Says:

Our defense has one or two games it can brag about….and, again…..TBBF doesn’t trust our defense in a close game.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

Take a look at that picture. That’s Kancey yapping to LVD, THE captain of the Defense. I bet JTS getting in that backfield and disrupting it is helping out guys like Kancey and big VV. The only stat I give two $$$$$ about is the one that says W as in Win. Go do it, Bucs!!

  19. Smashsquatch Says:

“He’s going to wreck sh*t! Like wreck sh*t!”

  20. Let em bake Says:

Favre had 29 picks one year. Easy in the baker int shank -like comment😊

  21. Jethro Tull Says:

Apologists for the Bucs defense provide amusing blabber. Until Coach increased his frequency of press man we were getting torched like a marshmallow at a bonfire. That’s a fact.

  22. Fred McNeil Says:

I don’t understand what the groping is all about. The pass rush wal pretty darn good Sunday. Kancey looked fantastic. Unmentioned is Dean and McCollum played very, very well. Nap time seems to be over. The run game is fantastic. I am elated.

  23. JimBobBuc Says:

Will the Bucs play down to the competition like they did against Carolina? After a big win against the Chargers, will the Bucs have a letdown? ESPN must think so, they have the Bucs at 16 in their power rankings, BEHIND THE CHARGERS!

The Bucs need to show up Sunday night, stomp on America’s team, and get some respect. LFT!

  24. Critmark Says:

I admit I am a stats nerd, but come on. Disrupting the other teams offense and holding them to barely over 200 yards, and winning by 20+ points. I will take those stats over any individual stats every time. Call me crazy!

  25. Cleanhouse Says:

    I was at To
Brady’s last playoff game vs Dallas. Haunted by this nightmare. I’ll believe a win vs. them when I see it.

  26. adam from ny Says:

yes…and if we only had one elite pass rusher out there to pair with yaya

  27. Tucker Says:

It’s crazy some fans were calling him a bust.

  28. Michael Says:

Didn’t litch draft Roberto as a kicker in the second round 🤣🤣 disqualified as a kicker guru

  29. Michael Says:

    Www

  30. Michael Says:

Didn’t litch draft Roberto in the second round 🤣🤣

  31. Pelsbuc61 Says:

Not impressed until he plays more than half a season and single-handedly wins a game with a sack or turnover to launch us into the playoffs.

  32. SenileSenior Says:

Oh ye of little faith. We can beat the Cowboys. We will beat the Cowboys!

    Go Bucs!!

  33. KELLY CREGEEN Says:

  34. BUDLIKEDTHEBUCS Says:

  35. White Tiger Says:

Kancey is like a big kid off the field – but in it he plays like he’s mad – and has fun with it! Love him and glad Bowles has him playing like he needs to.
