So the Bucs lead the NFL in one objective statistic that has mesmerized the exiled chieftain of the PFF Tribe (Pro Football Focus).

Sam Monson and his data partner Steve Pallazolo ran from the Tribe to pitch their tent at The33rdTeam.com. They host a show for the outfit and it’s the same stats-heavy chatter they used to do share for PFF.

Today, Monson seemed obsessed with the Bucs being the best first-quarter team in the NFL. And in Monson’s mind, that’s offense and defense, as the Bucs have the best points differential in the NFL in the first quarter.

Ironically, the mightly Eagles, winners of 10 consecutive games, are a horrible first-quarter team. Perhaps this is one reason why the Bucs have owned Philadelphia, in addition to QB Jalen Hurts’ miserable performances against Todd Bowles defenses?

As for the Bucs’ early success in games, Monson credited Todd Bowles and playcaller Liam Coen, but acknowledged that Coen has cracked a code in impressive fashion.

Yesterday, per Joe’s addition, was the Bucs’ seventh opening-drive touchdown of the season.

The Bucs have won all of those games.

Of course, the Bowles are a poor second-quarter team statistically, but nobody can say Bowles doesn’t know how to get a team ready for kickoff.

If he can only figure out how to ease the Bucs’ mid-game slides, Tampa Bay might become a Super Bowl contender in a hurry.

If we could just skip the 2nd quarter we’d be unbeatable 🤣

  2. Lt. Dan Says:

“Tampa Bay might become a Super Bowl contender in a hurry.” Easy Joe. Put the Tequila down sir.

  3. BuckyBuc Says:

just run the ball only in the 2nd quarter.

We play in the NFC least division. By no means are we a Superbowl contender.

Historically Bowles is a sub 500 coach, and if you include the playoffs, he’s 26-25 as a HC in Tampa.

We’re actually due for a letdown against the Cowboys. Which would make him 26-26. A 500 HC.

Most on here get all happy and irrational when Bowles falls backwards into a win.

Call me negative all you want. But I’m consistent.

We will never win a title with him as the HC. Not even close.

  5. Bucsfan Says:

No team has defeated both the Lions and Eagles , Bucs are already a Super Bowl contender.

    Suh

    Per bowl

And some get all pi$$ed off and irrational when we win, and Todds defense is a big part of it.

We’ve “fallen backwards” into 4 wins in a row and the lowest ppg allowed in the NFL over that span. Because of Todd.

I’m not labeling us SB contenders yet. BUT I think we can beat anybody when we’re playing our best, and this is the most complete game we’ve played all year. I’m happy and hoping we keep improving.

  8. First Name Greatest Says:

It’s a matchup league and when Bowles plays a offense devoid of talent or severely injured he can get a W. If a team is healthy or well coached it’s an L for Todd Blows

  9. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

They did yesterday. Didn’t even need the entire 2nd quarter to turn it around

  10. Larrd Says:

“Due for a letdown” = “theory that flies in the face of all recent evidence”

  12. A Bucs Fan Says:

The script is great! They need to work on their transitions.

  13. Day1BucFan Says:

Didn’t we have the longest opening drive TD drought under Brady/Leftwich just a few years back?

As a follow-up, we need to treat Liam Coen like we did Monte Kiffin – and PAY the man, but don’t give him the keys like we did Koetter. I don’t know enough about Liam to make him HC in fear of losing him.

We’re great at the beginning of games/seasons, poor in the middle, and usually pretty good at the end of games/seasons lately…

If we can become great at the end of games, or good in the middle and good to very good at the end of games, we can win it all this year.

  15. PewterStiffArm Says:

We can figure out how to conquer all of these variables before the playoffs, hopefully. What we really need to do, and I am speaking for the Glazers, is an honest assessment of how we can keep Liam Coen in town. How difficult is that going to be? The offensive flow is on cruise control, grease it and place that petal all the way down until we hit metal.

  16. Matt_PcAfee Says:

I’m still nervous about the last 3 games. But hey, 1 week at a time.

  17. Ugotrobbed Says:

Coen was awarded coach of the week by GMF…not that that means squat! Better find a way to pay the man, or he’s gone!

  18. StickinUp4Centers Says:

One reason the Bucs own the Eagles – AJ Brown. He’s been out the past two meetings of the teams

  19. GoneGator Says:

    @First Name Greatest

Better luck next time but not really since your expectations are for the team to lose against teams who aren’t “severely injured” or “devoid of talent”.

I thought we were the team playing severely injured?
It must suck to constantly be searching for the negative in the good.

    Turd Hunters 🤮

  20. bucnjim Says:

This team isn’t quite good enough to take their foot off the gas. That’s the problem! We go up one score then go conservative on offense. Get behind and have to step on the gas again.

  21. Mike C Says:

Lt dan, what team can’t the Bucs Beat besides ATL….. they won’t be in the playoffs btw. If you can’t see what is happening with this offense and how that it can take the team where it needs to be then you are Blind Stinking Drunk, this is a young, playoff tested, team with ALOT of super bowl Champs on it. If you don’t believe get the F out the way.

  22. Weebs10 Says:

We suck in the 2nd quarter of games and the 2nd quarter of every season

  23. Mac Says:

Matt I’m nervous every game. Bowles led teams are like a box of chocolates ya never know what you are going to get. This week was a tasty chocolate and caramel deliciousness. Lord knows what we get this week at Dallas.

  24. VOT Says:

Our games and seasons under Todd both follow the same pattern

Fast start, several unforced errors(losses), then a rebound towards the end

    It’s our MO

  25. Jeffrey Becker Says:

maybe the key to Coen’s system is showing a bunch of different stuff in the 2nd quarter to keep the defense from keying on the stuff he wants to do, or to set up the stuff he wants to do. maybe it’s not a coincidence. if you’re gonna have a bad quarter, I’d prefer it was the second 🙂

  26. Jeffrey Becker Says:

stickin up – u nailed it

  27. BallHawk75 Says:

    @GoneGay-tor

The Falcons are one game back and they play the Giants on Sunday. A guaranteed win for them.

The Cowboys just demolished the Panthers who we barely beat.

That game is ripe for a Bowles mental midget brain fart at a critical moment.

Happy as hell they pounded out the Chargers. But I do not trust Mr 500.

History has proven my apprehension to be spot on.

Imagine if you will, tying the Falcons in the standings only to miss the postseason because we couldn’t beat them even once..

That is unacceptable and would bring an end to the Bowles regime.
