Christian Izien’s Season Probably Over

December 26th, 2024

Done for 2024?

The bad Bucs pass defense just got worse.

Plug-and-play defensive back Christian Izien was placed on injured reserve this morning with a pec injury, per Scott Smith of Buccaneers.com. Izien suffered the injury in the galling loss to Dallas on Sunday.

The move means Izien must sit out no less than four games. Given the Bucs have two games left in the regular season, that means the earliest the Bucs can get Izien back on the field would be the NFC title game.

The way the Bucs played at Dallas on Sunday night, does that possibility seem real?

Izien, who plays nickel cornerback, safety and in a pinch outside corner, likely has played his final snap of the 2024 season.

  3. Ds Says:

DBs dropping left and right and Izzy is one of the better ones on this team

  4. ModHairKen Says:

I’m also available. I played CB in high school. I can cover CeeDee Lamb at least as well as those guys last week.

And I have great hair and can bang out a great postgame interview.

    See you next year Chris.

    Seems and horror movie……

I dont remeber a season with this amount of injuries, sepcially on DB´s and LB´s.

  7. Pewter Power Says:

Don’t deserve the playoffs if you can’t beat the Dallas Cowboys anyway. Chances of winning out are getting tougher.

So at various points this season, we’ve had injuries to our:
    – top 4 starting safeties
    – top 4 starting cornerbacks
    – 3 of top 4 starting ILBs
    – plus Vea, Kancey, JTS and Diaby

    Did I get that right?

Which prob means it buys Bowles another year of safety, and we all get to watch more passive, .500 play not to lose football next season.

  9. Mac Says:

Unbelievable you are spot on. Bucs could lose both the next 2 but he will use the injuries as an excuse to be back sadly. Sucks. Another year of mediocrity and soft practices along with soft zone defense. Just sucks to know next year is going to be wasted while Coen moves on elsewhere to develop a new qb and explosive offense. It would be a big kick in the d/ck if he is Saints new coach!

  10. Gipper Says:

It’s Bowles and Mayfield’s fault. These guys should be able to win NFL football games with 2nd stringers from the XFL. If they can’t, then Bowles must go. Mayfield stinks. He is rated only the 3rd best QB in the 2024 NFL.

    Holy gipper for real

  12. unbelievable Says:

Gipper your man crush on Mayfield is getting a little extreme.

No one with a functioning brain is blaming the season on Mayfield. He had 1, maybe 2 poor games, but otherwise has been good to great.

Bowles definitely gets blame. Lots of teams have injuries. Good coaches have backups ready to go. Our backups spend a year or more in the system and still aren’t ready. That’s on coaching. Not having your team motivated for big games is on coaching. Not having any clue how or when to use timeouts is on coaching.

  13. Bucsfan Says:

Jordan Whitehead was designated for return to active roster on the 24th , so not as bad as it sounds. Marcus Banks deserves a shot as he makes people pay when they go over the middle and nothing causes dropped passes like a head hunters’ footsteps-give Banks a shot Todd.

  14. ElioT Says:

Detroit has 19 dudes on IR.

Injuries are not an excuse and won’t save Bowels.

  15. My Momma Says:

My, my, my, my, Momma says “Foosball is of the devil”.

    Dang.

  16. Pewter Power Says:

Gipper I remember the offense holding it down surprisingly well without Mike Evans in the lineup. Baker Mayfield probably had something to do with that

  17. Oxycondomns Says:

with all the injuries the bucs held the cowboys to 3 points in the second half. cant have it both ways bowles supporters. lack of game planning hurt the bucs more

  18. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Ouch.

    This hurts.

As Joe noted, Christian is one of the few guys we have who can really “plug and play” at several positions.

Hope he makes a full recovery soon!

Just bring Mayfield up because on these same pages last year he was the villain I had to defend weekly. If that’s your version of a “man crush” that’s OK. I just call it fairness. Think the same is happening with Bowles. Pretty sure he is not the world’s best tactician but the team seams to respect him and in fairness the Bucs have been in virtually every game this season. I am also sure, as I have said repeatedly, that Bucs defense is devoid of talent. Happy with Vea, Kancey and an aging LVD and that is about it. Also, like Sirvocea Whatshisname at LB but he has been out most of the season. Not changing my mind that there will be a radical change in defensive personnel next year regardless of who is HC.

ummmm….yeah, the Bucs ain’t winning another game this season for sure now…..season over kiddos!!!!!!

  21. heyjude Says:

Disappointing news on Izzy. See him next season.

  22. Daniel Dream Says:

Injury has really derailed what looked like a possible title-winning season. We still have a chance, but its nothing like it looked like it could be this season. Hope this isn’t a ‘wait til next year’ scenario, but if it is, it us what it is. The team is strong and competitive but needed way more depth defensively to deal with all these injuries, and it’d help overcome it if we had edge pressure for the edges on a more regular basis. If it does become a wait til next year scenario, we know what we need to improve upon.

  23. NJbucs23 Says:

Banks and wisdom been on ps all season. Now is the time to see what they got.
