Chasing Mike Alstott
December 11th, 2024It’s almost hard to believe Rachaad White has only one running back/fullback ahead of him for an all-time Buccaneers’ record.
White is a third-year player, but after Sunday, he ranks second in Bucs history for touchdown receptions by Tampa Bay running backs/fullbacks.
The all-time leader is the A-Train himself, Mike Alstott, whose name sits in the Buccaneers Ring of Honor after his 11 seasons in pewter and red (1996-2006).
(Joe also will not that Alstott is a proud Bill Currie Ford customer.)
Speaking on the Buccaneers Radio Network yesterday, head coach Todd Bowles raved about White’s all-around and physical performance Sunday against the Raiders. He also said White doesn’t get enough credit for being a smart player.
“He’s pretty much a wide receiver back there, with moves and big enough to be a running back, as well,” Bowles said of White. “So he can do a lot of things. He has a lot of jobs. … He’s benefited a lot of guys being double-teamed, and he’s benefited from the fact that that he’s very good in the open field, and he has outstanding hands. And he has a very good feel for the game; he doesn’t get enough credit for how mentally smart he is when he plays a ballgame, but he’s a very smart player.”
High praise for White, who has improved this season and may have just played the best game of his 49-game career.
It would be wild if White caught Alstott’s franchise record for TD catches this season. Joe wouldn’t bet against it.

While Bucky and White support each other, I think the competition for snaps has given White incentive to play better. I would love to see White playing fullback with Bucky at RB!
December 11th, 2024 at 10:59 am
I hate to be that guy (not really), but one of Alstott’s 11 seasons was in Creamsicle.
December 11th, 2024 at 10:59 am
Joe,
If you’re going to tell us about a franchise record that might be broken, how about letting us know what that record is.
Mike Alstott’s record is 13 career receiving TD’s.
White now has 10.
December 11th, 2024 at 10:59 am
What’s the number, Joe?
December 11th, 2024 at 11:02 am
rriddler, I was thinking the same thing. Thanks for looking it up!
December 11th, 2024 at 11:09 am
Thanks @Riddler.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:12 am
It would be good to include how many rec TDs White and Alstott have.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:20 am
Mike is the reason I became a Bucs fan. Not many Bucs fans in Alberta.
And for the record, the locals pronounce it Cal – gree, if you pronounce it Cal – Gary it’s dead give away your didn’t grow up here.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:34 am
Boge……. not one person cares how you say Cal Gary.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:36 am
Jose, you did not mention Alstott’s record nor White’s current total. Help us out.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:42 am
@d-momey what tf does M.A.40 playing in creamsicle have to do with anything smh they talking about stats and records
December 11th, 2024 at 11:59 am
Now that I can pronounce Calgary, I have been unburdened by what has been…
December 11th, 2024 at 12:00 pm
RW has finally figured out how to run in the NFL !
Leave your dancing shoes in college
December 11th, 2024 at 12:03 pm
Thanks Mike C, likewise about your opinion. It’s from Ira’s podcast.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:04 pm
Rookie journalist mistake, Joe.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:04 pm
Alright Boge, I guess you helped out let em bake. Smh wtf lol
December 11th, 2024 at 12:05 pm
Bake – we’ll be unburden by what has been when your boy quits turning the ball over.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:06 pm
Boge….. no one cares if “people” from canaDuh, think we are not from their……… so does not really matter if it is “from a podcast” or not.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:07 pm
Mike C – The boys had a discussion about how to pronounce the name on the podcast, didn’t realize trying to help would set you boys off.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:09 pm
You sure seem to care, enjoy your troll job
December 11th, 2024 at 12:10 pm
Why is there no push for Alstott for HOF?
December 11th, 2024 at 12:13 pm
Sorry we didn’t know you were referring to a podcast 3 days ago…
December 11th, 2024 at 12:19 pm
Surprised there aren’t more posts giving Bucky credit 🙄
December 11th, 2024 at 12:21 pm
Redemption for Rachaad
December 11th, 2024 at 12:34 pm
Boge
“didn’t realize trying to help would set you boys off.”
Don’t worry I trigger many of them. LMAO
Thanks for the tip. It’s not just Canada, we have our own problems here in the States. I’m never sure if the natives prefer Nevaaada or Nevaduh.
I grew up in Kentucky where there is a town called Yosemite same as the National Park. Instead of Yo-sem-i-tee, in Ky it’s Yose a mite.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:46 pm
I would rather White score TDs by running hard like Alstott.
December 11th, 2024 at 12:51 pm
What drives me crazy is when media says Beers Avenue instead of Bears (Bares) avenue.
It is spelled that way for a reason. And now, two generations of the population thinks it is pronounced Beers.
December 11th, 2024 at 1:20 pm
How does this article not actually mention what the record is and where White currently stands?
December 11th, 2024 at 1:30 pm
Let ‘em bake……I just shot Mt. Dew out my eyes! Thanks….I think? Well played sir!
December 11th, 2024 at 1:40 pm
Wait a minute, you guys read the comments?
December 11th, 2024 at 1:42 pm
Joe is trying to get comments up to “30”. Then he’ll answer. SMH lol
December 11th, 2024 at 1:48 pm
I saw the headline and thought, “Wow, White has that many yards?” ….. then I saw TDs… and I was like “wow, he has almost as many TDs as Allstot” … ONLY to finally read that he is about to tie Mike with “receiving TDs”… 🙂
December 11th, 2024 at 2:38 pm
I don’t see White replacing Alstott as fan favorite.
December 11th, 2024 at 2:53 pm
It’s actually Bear Ass Ave. If White continues for an 11 year career he may have a record nobody will ever match
December 11th, 2024 at 3:23 pm
Even Bowles thinks White is a WR lol
December 11th, 2024 at 3:43 pm
It’s almost like Rachaad White is talented, despite some people’s relentless agenda to say otherwise…
December 11th, 2024 at 4:50 pm
Y’all remember the Mark Alsott incident?
December 11th, 2024 at 5:15 pm
Oooohhhh!!! The Rachaad Squad has 2 official members!!! Baker’s not the only one with agroup of fanboys following his every move! 🤣
December 11th, 2024 at 5:36 pm
True 👍🏼! There’s them Bucky Bois ! And of course the Liam for president crowd !
Going to be interesting to see who’s right about what after the season 😎
December 11th, 2024 at 9:15 pm
This shows what a nightmare run of OC’s the Bucs had. No reason Warrick Dunn isn’t on the top of that list by 50. Instead he was run off tackle for years.
December 11th, 2024 at 11:56 pm
Rachaad was a great player as a rookie; some just didn’t (or didn’t want to) realize it, and that’s the truth of the matter.
He’s smart and gifted like the great James White of the Patriots and Tom Brady’s offense fame.
You can best believe that the GOAT wanted Rachaad as a priority draft pick and Jason L. delivered.
December 12th, 2024 at 1:28 am
Rachaad has had some great plays, had a great game. Love 2 backs in formation, if Tucker could blitz pickup better, all three could be in there. Why not. An old fashioned full house backfield, then motion madness.
December 12th, 2024 at 4:20 am
MEANINGLESS STAT.
What’s next? an article how Rachaad white has most rushing yards in franchise history while wearing white jersey’s in night games?
This kind of garbage is why sportscenter went down hill 15 years ago. Full of nonsense stats to convince me some below average player is just as good as Babe Ruth
December 12th, 2024 at 4:41 am
people like to not give rachaad enough credit, for whatever reason…
but he’s a darn good all around back…
even with bucky tearing it up this year, he’s still gonna rack up like 1,000 yards from scrimmage…
last year it was like 1,500…
think about that for a minute…it’s a lot of yards he’s still getting with bucky eating into a huge chunk of it…and even tuck eats a wee tad bit too…
i’m sure if bucky wasn’t here, rachaad would be well on his way to another 1,500 yards…or maybe even more
December 12th, 2024 at 6:11 am
I am in agreement with Todd WHite is a solid player in all phases of the game IMO. He had to adjust his running style from a patient runner looking for a hole .
White is clearly the best back for pass pro. Nobody could have patience last year
with the O- line problems . And if you think this year offense is a dink and dunk offense, then flash back to last year where Brady had little or no patience where
Evans and Godwin’s stats were more like possession receivers and the offense ran through the running backs.
This year they have used Bucky as a feature back and good and bad things have happened. We need to utilize a two back system to increase the availability of Bucky. From Christian Mc Caffrey, Saquan Barkley, Dalvin Cook, to Adrian Petersen few if any feature back has been able to avoid missing major time due to injury.
December 12th, 2024 at 6:39 am
This could be a good reason why Todd has the player’s support. He has theirs and defends players who have experienced an unjustified negative opinion from fans and media.
