Bucky Hits 1,000 Yards

December 29th, 2024

Bucky Irving gets loose.

Today, running back Bucky Irving made a little Bucs history.

Irving became the first Bucs’ rookie running back since Doug Martin in 2012 to hit the 1,000-yard rushing mark. And Irving still has another game to rack up yards.

Irving finished the afternoon with 113 yards on the ground and 77 through the air. That’s 190 yards of offense from the Oregon product. He touched the ball 24 times — 20 rushes and four catches. Joe remarked to the Sage of Tampa Bay sports, Ira Kaufman, that Bucky would be sore Monday morning.

The Bucs needed him today and head coach Todd Bowles pretty much agreed.

“Yeah, we knew that we were going to start him starting this ballgame,” Bowles said after the game. “He knew it and everyone else knew it.

“So we thought we would try to get him off to a fast start and let him go and he did a good job for us.

Boy, what a shot in the arm for the Bucs offense. Once Irving began rolling, the Stinking Panthers had to adjust for him and Joe swears that opened up the passing game.

The Bucs have been getting good production from their rookie draft class. But none has had an impact like Bucky.

    BUCKY!

    Thanks Jason! 🙂

He reminds me of Warrick Dunn, but I think Bucky is a better version.

Wow Joe thinks a good running game opens up the passing game. Never heard such thing. Sorry for beingb an a-hole but that is common knowledge. Plus looking back and Bucs rank 32 in rushing and still win 2 division titles is a bigger accomplishment and Mayfield throwing over 4K yards with that pathetic running game is even a bigger accomplishment

    Bakerfan ask Brady
You obviously don’t know about play action

    Bucky Bucky Bucky!

  6. View from 133 Says:

Bucky is not a better Dunn, but he’s on a much more competent offense. Dunn had Trent Dilfer and Dungy’s “don’t lose field position” – he’d in the Hall of Fame drafted elsewhere.

But Bucky is great. Great pick, Licht.

Too bad it took 14 games for the Bucs to figure out what some of us knew in pre-season. Dang the bad luck. For those that don’t know, Mr. Irving was a the real deal.

Bucky also did not have Mike Alstott paving his way. I don’t think Dunn had the miss/broke tackle as Bucky. Time will tell who is the better back, but if I had to put money on it, it would be Bucky.

Bucs hit a home run with the Irving pick. Bucky! Bucky! Bucky!

    JL does it again

First time in 9 years we have a runningback to rush for a 1,000 and he didn’t even start the first few weeks of the season. Good pick by Jason Licht!!

  12. Bucs4Ever Says:

Should be OROY if played more.

    Great pick Licht.

    Braswell? Not so much

  13. Bucs4Ever Says:

    Bucky>Dunn

  14. MarkV Says:

He’d be in the running for offensive rookie of the year if stubborn Todd would have seen what we all saw. That guy has been our best back since week 2 and should have got more game time early.

    Absolutely blasphemy…

Warrick was shifter, faster and a better pass catcher although back then, backs weren’t used in the pass game like that. I see the parallel you’re going for but come on…

It should be obvious (Coach Bowles) to start Bucky and Tuck against the saints. I want to point out that when Bowles Did Not Blitz, carolina had plenty of time to throw a touchdown. Whenever Bucs blitzed they went three and out, wize up Coach! Congrats to Bucky and Jason. Go Bucs!

Hmmmm! It’s as if having a running game helps the offense! AND defense!

    Fanman is proud!!!

Bucky is the gas for this high octane offense. Glad to see he had 17 carries in the first half

  19. Jp3 Says:

Some of you need to go check Warrick Dunn highlights. I love Bucky’s game now if he had Warrick”s speed

Bucky was a gem of a pick! We are all so lucky to have him on our team. So happy he hit 1000 yds. Bucky is on fire. I still think the duck on the field was a good luck sign too.

  21. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

I love this kid right here, Unbelievable is all I can say !!!

  22. Buc2Blame Says:

Damn!! A little history ,smh the disrespect.

  23. bucsfaninva Says:

I understand some comparing him to Warrick Dunn. There are some similarities, but I remember Warrick getting stuffed behind the LOS a lot more than Bucky. Curious to see more comparisons…but it’s back to work for me.

  24. Jeffrey Becker Says:

only waited half a season too long, but at least he did it. what bothers me more than starting/not is using white in huge situations when he had bucky on the bench. burned us more than a few times

  25. Jeffrey Becker Says:

bucky’s got E Smith’s balance and is as slippery as they get. love watching him stay inbounds along the sidelines

  26. Korey Says:

Bucky would be ROY if not for excellent rookie qb play by J. Daniels. Same was for my fav Bucs rb Caddy, only to be overshadowed by the greatness of Ben Roethlisberger’s rookie win streak. Let’s go Bucs!
