Buccaneers Are Hearty Favorites To Make The Playoffs

December 9th, 2024

Computer models across the nation were humming last night, or perhaps that buzz was Ira Kaufman after his bang-the-table Bucs prediction came through.

Regardless, the Bucs are not only in first place but are a hearty favorite to host a playoff game. Bring on the Packers!

As seen in the NBC Sports data graphic above, the Bucs (7-6) now sit with a 64 percent chance of winning the NFC South, which would represent their fourth straight division title after a Super Bowl.

If that sweet dream becomes reality, it would be rare and historic NFL when it comes to maintaining a lasting contender.

The sinking Falcons (6-7), losers of four consecutive games, stand in the way.

The official NFL data nerds say the Bucs actually have a 71 percent likelihood of reaching the postseason — division title or Wild Card. The math majors at the New York Times insist the Bucs have a 57 percent chance of winning the NFC South and a 67 percent shot at the playoffs.

The “C+” math students at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarter put pencil to Twix bar wrappers last night and determined the Bucs have a 96.8 percent shot to make the playoffs if they beat the remaining NFC slugs on their schedule: Dallas, New Orleans and three-win Carolina.

Haha yes indeed. Their computers must not take into account coaching.

  2. Farmer Says:

Next week is the most important week, if we beat the Chargers then I don’t see a world where we miss the playoffs.

  3. Bucs Guy Says:

Bucs don’t usually play well when they travel to the West coast. Need a big run shutdown from the D. Herbert will kill the Bucs if they play a soft zone.

This game will be all about who can run the ball and who can stop the run.

  4. Leighroy Says:

That friggin guy with the tie on NBC… reminds me of Prof Frink from the Simpsons. Probably has a set of hamburger earmuffs in his locker.

  5. BucU Says:

Once again injuries rule the day. What a straight up miserable season for Winfield.
He ought to write a check back to the Glazers for robbing them in the offseason.

“…put pencil to Twix bar wrappers last night and determined the Bucs have a 96.8 percent shot to make the playoffs…”

    Love that line, lol.

If nothing else, Bowles has taught this team to keep trying.

  7. FortMyersDave Says:

Too early to talk about playoffs. If the Bucs manage ti beat the Chargers and the ATL loses to Vegas then we can start talking about playoff scenarios.

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Injuries are pretty bad this year. Even Evans is feeling it.

Shepherd finally had one good game. I do not expect him to next game.

Beating the chargers the way the oline is playing right now is going to be tough. Everyone is going to have to give 110%.

Sure would be nice if the dirty birds lose next week…just to keep us at the top and maybe create a cushion.

Bowles drives me crazy during the first half of every season…but his players start to trend up in November and December every year.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

FortMyersDave is right. This weekend has the potential to slam the door shut on the Falcons.

The Chargers are in free fall. Big injuries to key players. Their QB is now hurt. Will play but is banged up.

Can’t play zone. Have to get pass rush.

Baker has to stop being reckless. The OL has to give him more time and more lanes.

And whatever they’ve done to White, keep doing it. He spotted openings and took them yesterday and hit hard. That was a really great performance he put on running. Maybe his best in a Buc uniform.

  10. Mike C Says:

Dave, how have your picks been doing the Past few weeks? You look really stupid bro, just FYI.

  11. Pewter Power Says:

They saints game was a big fail but Atlanta lost to 3 good teams you know a slide like the Bucs but we’re you imploding? You’re really think they would losing to a raiders or giants lol if they did that’s imploding. Everyone thinking of every scenario except what if they beat Washington. Stop acting like they don’t have 3 easy game on their schedule. Bucs fans were scared you would lose the last three games

  12. TheBucsAnthem Says:

…..all this “imploding” talk is absolutely ridiculous

First off……the Vikings are one of the best teams in the and ATL pretty much hung with them until they got worn worn down and rebirthed Sam Darnold showed why he was a top pick many moons ago. If the Bucs were playing the Vikings yesterday; with Bucs Crappy Defense….they would’ve got blown outta ATL.

Second off…..Good teams destroy teams that are 2-10….and the Raiders are awful.

Yes this site is greatest cheerleading site for Bucs fans (trust me, I’ve seen it all)……even if the two Joes here disagree with each other at times. The problem though, is that newbies or fairweather unsiteful fans thinks these words of encouragement are gospel…..THE PROBLEM IS…THEY ARE NOT!!!!

The Bucs shouldn’t have won against the Panthers…..but they did….

Baker throwing balls off target, sailing them high, and just making bad decisions overall with the ball……Baker has to be better.

  13. DungyDance Says:

Green Bay in the playoffs doesn’t scare me. Minnesota does.

So play pretend. We make it past Green Bay but lose to our next opponent. Now what happens with Bowles v. Coen?

    I know what I’d do.

  14. SB~LV Says:

So much enthusiasm at the beginning of the year
The reality is excruciating as it is slowly revealed each game
    “A puncher’s chance “

  15. JimBobBuc Says:

Forget predictions. The Bucs control their destiny. Just win baby!

  16. heyjude Says:

“Twix bar wrappers” – Thank you for that laugh!

71% loving it all. The Bucs can go all the way!

  17. Mike C Says:

Yeah…… good point pewter power……. unmmmm WHAT?

  18. Durango 95 Says:

JBF made this whole thing up. Everyone knows a pencil can’t write on a Twix bar wrapper. Nice try, Joe.

  19. D Cone Says:

During the Broadcast of the Falcons/Vikings game it was mentioned if the Playoffs were held today that would be the match up.

Now if it is ‘Bring on the Packers’ then someone is assuming that the Bucs are going to leap frog to the 3rd Seed before the end of the season. Better stick to hyping a Division Title and a 4th seed because based on yesterdays play the Viking would have won in Atlanta or Tampa and the NFCS would be one and done and going into next season with the Carolina Panthers in the mix as they looked like the best team in the Division yesterday.

Bucs will be facing their toughest competition down the stretch in LA and after MNF they might come to the realization that they could hit a two game skid and be looking at 9-8 and that is only if they can knock off the saints and Panthers in back to back games.

Was not to long ago that an up and coming team went on the road and knocked a team out of the Playoffs. That team two years removed is now 12-1 and sitting as the #1 Seed in the NFC. Would not surprise me if the Panthers do to the Bucs what the Lions did to the Packers the year before their climb to legitimacy.

Bucs and Falcons are just not playing like a Playoff team and there will be at least two better teams watching at home Wild Card Weekend because they did not have the fortune of being in the NFC South.

Upside: Bucs are now favored to win the the Division and Glazer’s might get a little better return on their investment with one more home game. Favored this week but are still long shots to do anything better once they face winning records.

  20. Jack Sparrow Says:

    Lets go BUCS !!!!

  21. 1sparkybuc Says:

The rematch with the Panthers looks like a loss to me . They have played great the last three games, and we were lucky to beat them last week. We’ll see, but that game scares more than any other.

  22. Gofortheface30 Says:

That NBC segment is profoundly cringe, trotting out some little dweeb, sleeves rolled up and all doing statistics to mimic what news channels do for elections as if somehow this is every bit as serious and sophisticated. However, I’m sure it works because there’s spaghetti stained, jersey wearing fatsos everywhere as far as the eye can see watching that segment and completely locking in and thinking this is the most important thing they see all week. It almost feels like a bit, or a parody of what news channels do for elections but the customers – even lowest common denominator ones, loves gimmicks and they want to feel special

  23. Zoocomics Says:

This does not tell the whole story…

Falcons worst loss was to a divisional rival, the Saints. All their other losses were against relatively good football teams. Their schedule is very favorable to close the season, and I’d argue even a game behind us right now, it’s there division to lose. They got the Raiders, Giants, Panthers and Commanders vs. everyone we play is going to be a problem, so it seems the way this team plays from week-to-week. My predication, we both finish 9-8, they take the South, and we hope we did enough for a Wild Card.

  24. Jeff Says:

Attention delusional Yucs’ fans. The Falcons have three easy games left. Giants, Raiders and Panthers. They will EASILY win the division. These stats are for losers.

  25. BillyBucco Says:

We can lose to ANY of the remaining teams. Seriously.
    Herbert is hurt
    Dallas is tanking
    Carolina wants revenge
    Carr is hurt
At some point though even Carolina will want a high draft pick.
They are playing better but still losing.
If the Bucs beat the Chargers, my prediction is the Saints game won’t even matter.

  26. 1sparkybuc Says:

The Panthers are not going to be an easy win for anybody. Look at what they’ve done against Kansas City, us, and then the Eagles yesterday. They have played three straight “superior” teams in a row, tough. I believe they will cause some team in our division to miss the playoffs. Hopefully it’s not us.

  27. Tye Says:

    Yeah!!!
The playoffs where the Bucs play winning team and get throttled nationally with the worst HC/DC in the league….

  28. HC Grover Says:

A playoff game would be a great bonus. Atlanta must be going down the tubes. Wonder who we would play?

  29. Ugotrobbed Says:

Don’t see us going cross country and beating one of the best defensive units in football (unless all phases are clicking), nor do I see the Falcons losing to the Raiders! Think it’s going to be a nail biter all the way through the final game.
    Go Bucs!

  30. gofortheface30 Says:

Hi Jeff – Pleased to meet you, I’d like to kindly remind you of Atlanta’s superbowl legacy:

    – getting your shi pumped by John Elway
    – giving up a 28-3 lead
    – ringless

You suck – loser franchise as well. Have a nice day

  31. orlbucfan Says:

One da##ed game at a time! All these clubs have the best players in American football. They are not patsies. These players are highly competitive and proud. I don’t care if the record is 0-12. Let’s figure out a way to beat the Chargers who are unpredictable as h3ll. I’m hoping for 10-7. As a long time, long suffering fan, I’m thrilled that the walking wounded Bucs are 7-6. So, Bucs just beat LA, okay? Whatever happens in the postseason happens.

  32. Mike C Says:

Dear delusional Buc trolls/haters Bucs are going to be the Division Champion 4 YEARS IN A ROW! that is all

  33. HC Grover Says:

Call me next Monday after Bowles whups the Rams…

  34. unbelievable Says:

    Gotta win out.

Falcons probably one lose 1 more game at most. Can’t be tied with them, thanks to our defense being incapable of stopping Kirk Cousins.
