Buccaneers 40, Chargers 17

December 15th, 2024

How bout that message the Bucs just sent the entire NFL!

What a beatdown of a quality Chargers team — on the road.

That’s four Bucs wins in a row and there’s not a damn reason in the NFL world that Tampa Bay can’t win its final three games against Dallas, Carolina and New Orleans.

For the seventh time this season, the Bucs, now 8-6, scored a touchdown on their opening drive. It didn’t happen all last season.

And the offense kept pouring it on despite a couple of hiccups with a Baker Mayfield interception and a Rachaad White fumble.

Newsflash: That Chargers defense entered the game allowing the fewest points in the NFL.

Joe is so fired up by Mike Evans’ big day. What an angry beast he was.

Does that guy look 31 years old?

Big Mike racked up 9 catches for 159 yards and 2 touchdowns. Evans now has 749 yards receiving with 3 games remaining to tie Jerry Rice’s all-time record of 11 consecutive seasons of 1,000 or more receiving yards.

The Bucs’ punishing running game thundered along to yet another huge day, this time over 200 yards. Rachaad White (64 yards) and Bucky Irving (117 yards) each had 15 carries.

On defense, the Bucs made fantastic adjustments in the second half and shut out the Chargers. Freakin’ stunning.

Major love for Lavonte David and his two-sack day. The blitzes were humming and the Bucs hit Chargers QB Justin Herbert 9 times. That’s a rare number for the Bucs.

Joe also applauds Todd Bowles for how he got his team ready to play and, overall, how he’s stayed a bumpy course with a steady hand.

The Bucs are ahead of last year’s pace, which is a very special happening.

Bring on the Cowboys!

    Bowles deserves the credit.

    See ya in Tampa 1/5!

  5. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

That was a dominant win. Mostly Peaceful Trask gets to see his boy in there! So does Oneilbuc.

  6. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Trask can hand it off and take a knee like no quarterback in the history of the NFL!

  7. Curse of Gruden Says:

    Trask will save the day!

I previously said “solid win” about today…

    I take it back.

    GREAT WIN! LFG!

Who care if they had injuries, we have even more!

  9. Allbuccedup Says:

Licht will be looking for another OC again next year!!!

  10. MadMax Says:

Its not over yet….dont wet your panties boys….more to go

    but…HOW BOUT THEM BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Bucsgoham12 Says:

Credit Bowles, he had them prepared for across the country game. The defense gave up 7 pts in a normal possession. The others were set up from the turnover. Liam used Bucky for the bulk of the runs though I think White’s fumble aided in the switch. I still credit Liam for running the ball which let Baker settle down and eventually got Mike involved. Defense played great. They can really win the division since this was suppose to be the automatic L to many. ATL and Wash play so Bucs benefit in division or wc from it.

  12. infomeplease Says:

This is the team we know we have! Great win. Bucs control their own destiny! One game at a time!!! LFG!!!

  13. BucsFan81 Says:

Division runs through Tampa. I will be honest I did t think we were going to win today. Traditionally Bucs haven’t been good going to the west coast. Great win today.

  14. Saskbucs Says:

Looked dicey after those turnovers but what a game! Stayed the course. Evans!!!! Let’s get him over in the next 2 weeks. I think it can happen. Don’t need a 17 game asterisk on it.

Please let the D get healthy before the playoffs. Yeah I’m talking playoffs! Bucs have a terrific shot to win out and control their destiny. Dallas about to get slapped next week! Wooo.

Good job Bowles. I’ll tip my cap for your efforts this week, well done Sir!

  15. SteveK Says:

    Kick another FG!

  16. Rjscheapseats Says:

It’s almost as though the Bucs don’t suck and most of what has been said here is wrong

  17. BuccoDav Says:

Did you see that handoff by Trask? Wow!

  18. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Did you guys see that handoff? Trask is exceptional!

  19. SteveK Says:

Hell of a run by Tucker! He’s tough

  20. Gipper Says:

I know RodMunch and DavidBigBucsFan99 are disappointed. Baker had a great game and those guys were feeling so smug after Baker’s Q2 INT. Those guys would rather see Baker fail than succeed.

  21. SteveK Says:

Now let Desmond Ridder ruin the Falcons season tomorrow. That would spark a lot of joy!

  22. BuccoDav Says:

    Great team win!

  23. Buc4evr Says:

Hell yeah Baaaaaaby. Bake is money today! .

  24. MadMax Says:

I said we’re about to find out what we’re made of with what we’ve got….um, im sure we got a lot. Great win, im smiling. 🙂

  25. Chef Baker Says:

Nice team win! Nice to see baker and white bounce back from turnovers. On to the cowgirls!! LGF!!!

  26. Bucsgoham12 Says:

“Licht will be looking for another OC again next year!!!”

Perhaps but I think Ben Johnson could be picky like Ben Johnson. Are any of the jobs that appealing? Most of them have meddling owners and the Saints have bad cap. Liam moved back and forth a lot when he was doing that Kentucky job so I hope he realized he does not need to chase a job just because it is offered.

  27. Buc4evr Says:

can’t wait for the locker room speech.

  28. Permanently Moderated Says:

Outstanding! You love a game like this.

  31. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I woke up feeling like The Bucs would end up winning a close one.
    I’ll take going 1 for 2.
    GO BUCS

  32. Gipper Says:

Many here were ready to run Bowles out of town tarred and feathered. If Bucs run the table and win a playoff game, Bowles gets a contract extension. Sorry haters.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Smooth sailing into the playoffs from here!

  34. Curse of Gruden Says:

Trask was the difference in this one.

  35. Eric Says:

Bowles = coach of the year.

  36. David Says:

That may be their most impressive win in years. The charges were the 11th best defense in the NFL and they put up over 500 yards and over 200 rushing yards and 40 points.

Herbert is an awesome quarterback, and the defense stepped up, held him to 17 and got some turnovers.

    DOMINANT!!!

  37. Tbbucs3 Says:

Lets top this week off with a Falcons loss tomorrow

  40. ElioT Says:

    Great win, total *** whopping.

    Very happy!

  41. Rod Munch Says:

Man, if Good Baker shows up – and Todd Bowles isn’t a —– and brings pressure, this team would do some real damage in the playoffs.

Still have to make the playoffs, but it’s all in the Bucs hands from here, and if they win out like they should, they’ll be the hottest team in football going into the postseason.

  42. Usfbuc Says:

Huge win, I would have maybe moved to Tucker a possession or two earlier. Love the big game for ME.

  43. Tbbucs3 Says:

Did Trask seal his spot in the ring of honor tonight?

  44. oz len Says:

Great game! Bucs ascending! Lots of good things today. I’ll wait for Rod Much to pull it all together for me. Go Bucs!

  45. NY_Buc Says:

Let’s all hold the hoes accoyfor there bs stories to spend money and draft picks for pass rushers that have not panned out for other teams and their push to fire Bowles. It is very clear why the joes comment on NFL and are not actually involved in the NFL. The joes have been wrong all year about everything

  46. Crickett Baker Says:

I had to listen on radio. My normal Bucs station would not let me listen, so I surfed to LA and found a station. BOY did I miss Gene. These announcers whined the entire second half. They quoted our stats. They called it a “slugfest”. They said the “Bolts” were lethargic. Every sentence was a whine. They even mentioned that we never had to punt! GO BUCS!

  47. D-Rome Says:

Bucs Nation is fired up, Joe! What a win! Tremendous!

  48. dbbuc711 Says:

Glazers should give Coen a big raise, make him assistant head coach, and guarantee him to be head coach when Bowles calla it a career

  49. Herbiebuc Says:

Rjchealshet yup thats exact the case and I been screaming it all year!

  50. DBS Says:

Where is Jeff? Will Anthem celebrate a win or stay hidden?

  51. rrsrq Says:

Love how Bowles said, ok Herbert, you are gimpy, let me introduce to some pressure

  52. Lightningvinny Says:

One at a time ,,, now on to the cowboys

  53. Trask To The Future Says:

Congrats to Baker on a great game. Let’s hope “good Baker” continues to show up and this team can make a playoff run.

Gotta love Bucky. What an amazing draft pick. Finally a later round RB pays off big for us.

  54. Xristos Says:

Well done, really good game especially in the 2nd half. Credit to all.
But lets just enjoy and focus on the Dallas game before we starting sending messages to the NFL Joe lol.
    Go Bucs

He missed games…..no asterisk will be needed

  56. Chad Says:

I’ve gave bowels crap for when the defense plays bad, so I have to give him his flowers when they play the way they did tonight, great job, even though herbert was playing on a bum ankle, todd made the right calls and defense looked good

    ————-

I’d want to listen to Gene as well, but how do you not find anything but joy in listening to them whine? I love that stuff, nothing beats fans and announcers having a meltdown when the Bucs beat them. Also you can have lots of fun listening to them cry on podcasts and post-game radio.

  58. Dom Says:

I like Mike’s odds of getting that 1K of he can mix in another 120+ yard day these next 3 games.

This WR core looks strong next year if JMac can keep developing and we get Godwin back

  59. Outrigger Says:

Sure happy we got Vita instead of Derwin James. James looked lost out there today.

  60. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Great game.
    Great win.

    But remember, Herbert was hurt.

  61. stpetebucsfan Says:

WTF does “good Baker” even mean? Perfect Baker? Was Tom Brady “bad Tom” when he threw that horrible pick into the end zone to mark the beginning of the end of his final playoff game?

This blog has attracted a group of “guys” who post like “mean girls”. They have passive aggressive down to an art form. Well he didn’t suck. When the “bad” him doesn’t play it’s good. How about eat a little crow and admit you were WRONG!!!

  62. GoneGator Says:

No amount of nit picking or criticizing can pi$$ in my cornflakes this week. 🙂

Complete domination outside of a slightly shakey stretch that we snapped back from without flinching.

Most complete game we’ve played all year!

Great job by Todd with the defensive adjustments and gameplan. Defense played with intensity throughout.

Great job calling plays by Liam. Chunk plays galore.

Great job by Baker for some beautiful throws downfield.
Great job by Mike, J-Mac, Otton for clutch catches. Pass game is rounding into shape right on time. Mike is a beast and got a good little chunk towards his 1k quest.

Great job by Bucky and Rachaad and the O-Line pounding the rock.

Going to be hard for the regular Haters to find much to whine about…. I’m sure they’ll find some things but I don’t even care – lol

  63. Jeffs grandpa Says:

When Coen gets a Head Coaching job Todd and Baker will be king makers and get the pick of the litter for a oc next coaching cycle

  64. Jason Anthony Sturgess Says:

Liam Coen must either be promoted to Head Coach at the end of the year no matter how well the Bucs do or be paid the same ammounrt as Bowles and made Co-Coach. The Bucs need Cpen not Bowles!

  65. OHBucFan Says:

Fantastic win. The flight home needs to include a beating for Jalen. Time to grow up, young man.
Love the fight on both sides of the ball.
    LFG!

Yeah, it’s such a complicated concept, I can see why you’re baffled with your 80-ish IQ, which remarkable matches your age. LOL!

    Defense was on fire too!

    ———-

In the first half when they sat around in zone they sucked.

In the second half, they actually brought pressure – and shock of shocks, the Chargers started making mistakes and couldn’t move the ball at will.

Why Bowles sits in that garbage soft zone 90%+ (literally, not a made up number) of the time and passively lets teams move the ball at will, I do not understand. YES, the Bucs will absolutely get burned by being aggressive, but they’ll also look like a professional NFL defense too.

  72. Drunkinybor Says:

Ill give on a bit. Teams that play the best on December and late Nov. Play for the coaches and teammates. Most teams fold. So ill give it Todd for keeping everybody together. It does say a lot about his leadership ability. Reminds me of a less religious Dungy lol.

  73. DoooshLaRue Says:

Come on now Fancy Man, don’t attack our resident octogenarian just because your hot take didn’t pan out.

And don’t you dare tell SPBF to jump off the Skyway.
After all, it’s not wheelchair accessible up there at the jumping area.

    Go Bucs

  74. DoooshLaRue Says:

Baker looked a little better than Ol JayMiss today too Rod.

    Did I hear correctly?
    He got benched?

    Oh my……….

  75. D-Rok Says:

Awesome, dominant win. This team flipped a switch, and I did not see it coming. Let’s keep the hopium coming for the next 3 games and beyond!

    Wow. I’m pleasantly stunned.

  76. JimBobBuc Says:

That second half was incredible, to me the best half of the last two years! I wonder what happened during halftime? Offensive and defensive adjustments? A speech?

  77. West Coast Bucks Fan Says:

Just got out of the stadium. Awesome win. Bowles’ defense looked great. Offense was on fire. Go Bucks!

  78. geno711 Says:

@Rod. Let me break this down for you in terms even a toddler could grasp. Most teams do play zone more than man coverage during a game. That’s called reality—look into it sometime.

Green Bay and Seattle? Yeah, they kicked things off in a “soft” zone on Sunday night, which is about as surprising as rain in Seattle.

Now about that “literally 90 percent” nonsense—you literally pulled that out of your rear end. Fun fact: slapping the word literally onto something doesn’t magically make it true. It just makes it sound like you’re trying way too hard.

And speaking of effort, maybe put a little into owning up when you’re wrong instead of doubling down like a blackjack player who doesn’t know how to count.

  79. Tony Says:

Sometimes I swear this team is bipolar. One week they’ll have a game like this & then another week they’ll have a game like they had against Denver.

  80. Itzok Says:

Awesome win. Did the bucs actually find a defense in LA

  81. MelvinJunior Says:

Yes, Mike does look 31. 💯
