BSPN: Bucky Irving “Trending” Up

December 14th, 2024

Encouraging intel.

Yesterday, Bucs coach Todd Bowles was non-committal regarding the status of star running back Bucky Irving. A well-plugged-in national NFL scribe is more direct.

Jeremy Fowler of BSPN typed this morning that Irving is “trending” up to play Sunday in the City of Angels against the Chargers.

Now yesterday Bowles said Irving was a “gametime” decision with his bad hip and back, meaning Irving will sort of get a test drive on the turf of SoFi Stadium before the Bucs give him a thumbs-up or a thumbs-down.

In Joe’s mind, this game is sort of under the radar. If the Bucs can pull off the upset and the Raiders rise from the ashes, it would take a collapse by Tampa Bay to choke away the division title that also brings a home playoff game.

Sit him down and play next week,

  2. Drunk Bucs Fan Says:

Desmond Ridder has the chance to do the funniest thing in the NFL this season…..

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Let him sit! Let him heal.

  4. White Tiger Says:

Make ‘em prepare for Bucky, throw him in the active lineup even, but sit him for another week and let White & Tucker handle the bulk of the carries – catch them with some quick outs to Mike, Otton & JMac & the screen game.

Wonder if we’ll see a few more vertical shots this week?

Looking forward to seeing how well we can do – we’re playing with house money this Sunday, everyone had this marked as a L – let’s see if we can steal one from a solid team with a winning record!

  5. heyjude Says:

Game time decision, agree with others to let him sit this one out. Get healthier for the prime time game in Dallas.

  6. GoneGator Says:

Whether Bucky plays will not determine this games outcome. If our O-line continues its strong play then we’ll be good to go with the run game.

    More concerned with:
Can Todd pulling another rabbit from his hat defensively with 3rd, 4th, 5th string players?
    and
Can Liam, Baker and the boys can get our pass game in synch for 4 full quarters?

  7. PSL Bob Says:

I agree with A Bucs Fan. Let’s rest him and give Tucker his share of carries. We have to win 3 or the next 4 to have a decent shot at making the playoffs. Everyone wrote this game off as a L, so we’re really playing with house money. Let Tucker and White carry the load this week and have Irving rest and in peak shape for the last 3 games.

  8. Mike C Says:

Or….. you put your best available on the field and win the game.

  9. Jethro Tull Says:

Winning the game is a good idea, Mike C.

Better that sitting on a park bench.

  10. dmatt Says:

For the record, Bucky initially got injured on kickoff return with about 3 or 4 seconds remaining before halftime against the Panthers. Why was he in the game on kr with a few seconds left before half? Poor coaching! Trey Palmer is a bust as he serves no purpose other than pulling a Jayden Darden by looking to fair catch or run outta bounds. Devin Thompson was small but he had heart to run up the gut or fight for yards. Trey Palmer is all about mouth. Three Bucs that are for sure passive players: Trey Palmer, JDean, n JTS. We

  11. Vanessa Anne Says:

    Let him sit.

As much as we could use him against the Bolts’ D.

A back/hip injury is nothing to sneeze at.

  12. Hodad Says:

Rest? There’s four games left, then he might have the whole offseason to rest if we don’t win and make the playoffs. Every player is dealing with something this time of the year. You want Baker to rest his ankle too? Jimmy Johnson used to say about RBs you ride the horse till it dies then you get another horse. Bucky needs to saddle up no matter how much he hurts. That’s football.

  13. SenileSenior Says:

If every game is treated as a playoff then you play all of your best players available. Otherwise you sit the most important wounded players. You try to let them heal and assume you can win with the remaining players.

They would not have brought Bucky to LA if they were not trying to play him. I guess he really is much needed now! We are going to make a strong effort to win this one.

Go Bucs! Shock the skeptics. Beat the Chargers!

  14. BigBucsFan Says:

Of course the trainers the coach and the player are going to a whole lot more about their injuries than I. But if it’s even questionable, his back slightly tight give it to Rashad and Tucker they can carry the game. Big Irving fan even have them on a fantasy team going into the playoffs I’d rather sit them so I can see the bucks make a regular playoffs and play well in them. Let’s f****** go Tampa Bay buccaneers!!!!

  15. unbelievable Says:

@dmatt – actually Bucky was injured long before that game. He was being held out of practices as far back as late October / early November with his toe injury, which Bowles said will last all season long. Then in Panthers game he got a hip pointer, which is what caused his back to tighten up last week against Vegas.

  16. Jake been there since the beginning Says:

The back is not something to play with. I thought all was good and one day BAM and here I sit after two surgeries still hoping. It sucks, at times it feels good but let me try to do something and I pay for it.

  17. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

Like Joe said, a win here, increases our chances of getting that #3 spot, and pretty much locks up the defense if we win out. So he should dress and only play if needed.
