Bounceback Game For Baker Mayfield

December 8th, 2024

Progression to the mean.

If you believe in the law of averages, then you likely are confident that Baker Mayfield will have a strong game today.

Mayfield didn’t have a great game last Sunday in Charlotte, despite the Bucs winning in overtime. Mayfield also got dinged up and Joe believes one of his picks was directly related to his injury — as he came straight from the peep show tent and Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen had him throw on that very first play. Pick!

In fact Mayfield, who has been one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks this season, had poor accuracy last week as documented by Rich Hribar of Sharp Football Analysis.

His 18.2% inaccurate throw rate was his highest rate in a game this season.

And Mayfield completed just 62.6 percent of his throws against the Stinking Panthers. That was his his lowest completion percentage in a game since Week 2 at Detroit (also a Bucs win) and his second-worst of the season for a QB completing more than 70 percent of his total passes this year.

So if you believe Mayfield nearly bottomed out last week, then that means he will have a much better game today.

    I think him and Mike Evans light it up today.

    Baker is a Star… Go! Bucs

  3. Rod Munch Says:

    I literally have no idea why anyone would have thought he’d have a good game at Carolina. That game always sucks for the Bucs, always.

    While Baker was completely God awful last week, this week, he should have a day – and Evans should be the main person to benefit from it. I wouldn’t be shocked if it’s a HUGE day for Evans. If that doesn’t happen, if Baker stinks again, then this team is in huge trouble as they’re not going to win anything with Bowles just having the defense stand around in a soft zone all game giving up 400 yards and 30 points to every garbage QB in the NFL.

  4. BucsBeast Says:

    I have confidence in the Offense.
    I have ZERO confidence in the defense. The scheme and play calling is the main issue for me. You know why our Offense is working? Liam adjust to the skill set available. Bowles refuses to do this. Prime example is zone vs man last week. When a stop is desperately needed Bowles empties his bowels everytime.

  5. Kenton Smith Says:

    BucsBeast not “everytime”. I’d say we desperately needed a stop in OT last week. And man did we get it! And Rod Munch. Forget it Rod, I don’t even know where to start!!

    Joe says, “So if you believe Mayfield nearly bottomed out last week, then that means he will have a much better game today.”

    Oh no, there’s the jinx we need to avoid.

    I believe, and Baker will bounce back today.

    “The Bucs have converted 47.6% of their third downs, 2nd in the NFL behind the Chiefs 51.8%.” We don’t know which Raiders are going to show up. They played pretty well against KC. Reading the other Joe posts on here, it will probably be a close game again. Still hoping for a blow-out though.

    2 weeks ago Baker had zero td passes. Last week he threw 2 picks. 2 weeks ago 4 different players rushed for touchdowns. Last week Evans and Bucky had huge games. WE WON both games. We win and lose as a team.

    Good Lord the Throbbing Rod Muncher never ever fails to greatly anger with his dumb af comments

    “God Awful?” …….just stfu, stay the hell out if anything to do with this team. You’re good for nothing

    ~~~~newsflash to all~~~~~there isnt an NFL QB alive who puts up outstanding stats every single game.
    JK I agree he wasn’t “God awful” but we don’t gotta be hostile. I’m fairness to RM, he was just pointing out Baker should have a better game which we should all agree with.
    I think maybe (Bowles?) let out part of his secret when he was talking about Baker calming down after the injury (though I agree the pick right after probably calmed him down more.)
    I was a browns fan that followed Baker because he was always the answer and they did him dirty for someone they didn’t know wasn’t going to prison. In Cleveland, Baker had many superstar moments riddled by silly mistakes, and no one could pinpoint why you would see the extremes. Because of the persona he gives off, it never occurred to me (or many, I’m guessing) that he just gets adrenaline rushes by being in the big house and has to find his calm before he can truly bake.
    I get it, as a hockey player, because I can get a breakaway and get in n excited head rush and flub the whole thing, but if I calm my mind, I can occasionally stun even the best goals I’ve played against and do the “looks like he’s not even trying” goal.
    When we see Superstar Baker, that’s what it looks like. He has to be calm, and it seems the longer he’s in the league, the calmer he gets. I think he’ll continue improving and be a HOF QB by the end of his career.
    New Fan Land. Great day. Family, food and football. Just when I thought it couldn’t get any better I read your post. Just the angst that Rod Munch ought to get from reading your post makes it an even better day. And you’re right New Fan Land “looks like he’s not even trying”. We used to say “makes it look easy”. That’s when any athlete is at their best.
  12. David S Pear Says:
    New Fan — love the hockey story. Interesting, not much time to calm ones mind on a breakaway! But your point is spot on and made in a very cool way.
  13. New Fan Land Says:
    David, thanks for the kind words!
    Baker was a roller coaster today from what I could see watching the play by play. D held though, and from what I have seen and read, the Raiders have given good teams trouble all season.
    Hopefully he continues to have more good games than not as good!
