Biggest Present For Bucs

December 24th, 2024

Stocking stuffer.

Joe understands that humorist/NFL columnist Mike Tanier isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. But Joe thinks he’s one of the better NFL writers out there.

Joe Flacco’s high school math teacher, Tanier believes he figured out the best Christmas present for Tampa Bay. Tanier offered a stocking stuffer for each NFL team in the final hours of Christmas shopping on his substack Too Deep Zone.”

For the Bucs, it would be a pricey piece of jewelry under the Christmas tree that cancer DeSean Jackson hadn’t destroyed which could help the Bucs for years to come.

Handcuffs so Liam Coen cannot escape to take a head coaching job. They can be golden handcuffs. Or, like, sexy handcuffs. Gronk might have left a pair of those lying around somewhere.

Hey, if Gronk’s better half Camille Kostek comes with those cuffs, talk about an incentive to stay!

Joe gets what Tanier is suggesting. Joe has touched upon this. Whatever deal needs to be done to persuade Coen to stick around calling plays, that would be a massive and smart investment.

Biggest present for the Bucs would be:

    Dumping Bowles
    Keeping Coen
    Dumping Tryon
    Dumping Dean

  2. Mac Says:

Amen Tony! Add to that resigning Godwin and it will be a VERY Happy New Year!

  3. Tony Says:

Yeah that, too! I think them keeping him in late in that Baltimore game & getting hurt really hurt him. Not just actually but in FA. I wouldn’t be surprised if they just end up franchise tagging him.

I have to admit, keeping Coen and locking him up would be a phenomenal present for us Buc fans. Another site said that one place the Bucs might e wary of is New England as they could decide to can Coach Jerod Mayo and Coen is from New England being the UMass QB once upon a time. Now hopefully Kraft and his crew are patient with Mayo but as we seen with Canales, there is no guarantee if Coen is allowed to interview that he will return to the Bucs. Everyone thought Canales was just getting the complimentary interview to satisfy the Rooney rule in Carolina, but Canales got the job; probably because no one else wanted it but he still left, and Coen is a much more desirable candidate. Lock him up with a deal he cannot refuse even if that means launching Bowles. Personally, haven’t the Glazers figured out that Bowles will always be Bowles with his stubbornness, soft zones and inability to manage a game clock and time outs. Throw in that the guy has never admitted that he has made any mistakes publicly and his non accountability and his mediocre record as Bucs’ skipper…… Even if the Glazers do decide to keep Bowles for whatever reason, can they give Coen beaucoup coin to be the “head coach in waiting”?????? Merry Christmas Joes!

Joe mentioned that the other day. 🙂

Very good quarterback in New England and Coen is from Rhode Island.

  6. unbelievable Says:

    Coen will gone.

Bucs will be stuck with Mr. .500 for another year or two.

The 9-8 seasons will continue, as well the head coach’s lifelong quest of trying to figure out what timeouts are actually used for, and when to use them. He will also lament the lack of his team’s fundamentals- like throwing, catching and tackling, and scratch his head wondering why those things haven’t improved after giving the team yet another extra day off from practice. But have no fear Bucs fans, there is an ace up his sleeve. Tomorrow the defensive tackles will practice dropping back into coverage. Why develop a pass rusher when you can drop them into coverage? Our opponents will never see it coming…

    Cohen for head coach

  8. Colin in Canada Says:

I’d like to see one more year from Cohen as OC before he gets the bucs HC job.

  9. heyjude Says:

Show Coen the money and give Todd a bump too. It would be wonderful if Coen could stay as OC for another year. That would be closer to the end of Todd’s contract. Unfortunately, he will be invited by teams for a HC interview. Thinking about Joe’s article about NE too. Up and coming new QB there too. Coen went to college there. Can’t really count any team out though.

  10. Ted Says:

With potentially 8 openings this off-season, Coen will be selected for a job somewhere….might as well be here in Tampa. It may be a year early but it’s better than letting him go somewhere else and stay with flacid Todd.

  11. Oddball Says:

Even if the Bucs make the playoffs I don’t see Bowles keeping his job. Glazers/Licht are looking for improvement from their H.C. and I don’t see a 10/7 record and limping/lucking into the playoffs as much of an improvement over last year, especially when the same “fundamental” errors are still being committed.

Coen is clearly the guy that keeping this team in contention. He’s not going anywhere. And yes the Falcons will choke and gift us the division.

  12. Permanently Moderated Says:

I hope the Bucs keep Coen, but why would he want to stay with Bowles, who will only drag him down? Coen doesn’t seem to be the mediocre type. Todd’s picture is next to the definition of the word in the dictionary.

  13. Hodad Says:

The Bucs have had to many offenses the last five years. Even if we lose Coen we should keep the offense by promoting one of Coen’s staff. We need to keep the offense, but it’s past time the Bucs got a new defense. That’s what’s really wrong with this team anyway. Todd’s D has been figured out. Raheem beat it twice, it wouldn’t surprise me if Canales beats it Sunday. Only way we get a new defense is by getting a new HC. I’d vote for Coen.

  14. BigBucsFan Says:

Be careful what we wish for Cohen is excellent offensive coordinator as was dirk koetter great offensive coordinator and as we seen in our past seasons and the Atlanta falcons current Raheem Morris excellent defensive coach excellent defense of coordinator but things change being the head coach. Think bowles will be fine but maybe he needs to rely on his assistance a little bit more have a guy do time management for him other teams do it why not the bucs

  15. heyjude Says:

BigBucsFan – Agreed. Need a time management special assistant.

  16. Bucs Lives Matter Says:

Two important questions to ask yourselves if you’re Glazers/Licht. First, would Todd Bowles get hired as a head coach on any of the other 30 NFL teams? Second, you have a top 3 head coaching candidate on your staff right now that many other NFL teams are salivating to hire as their next head coach. Should Bowles be fired and Coen be promoted to head coach?

The answers are obvious on what to do, now will Glazers/Licht make the correct moves here, or do we let a highly coveted offensive coach walk out the door and stay mediocre with Bowles.

  17. heyjude Says:

Bucs Lives Matter – Certain that Todd would get hired as a head coach somewhere else. Possibly the Browns. I don’t think Bowles should be fired and give Coen HC quite yet. Todd still has the locker room. The players like and respect him. And we have been through that scenario before. Koetter comes to mind.

  18. John Sinclear Says:

A big pay bump, a new contract, lock him down – all sounds good. But maybe remember – in the NFL contracts are like egg shells. Made to be broken!

  19. Bucks 'n' Bucs Says:

Coen sucks! I can’t believe these bone-headed decisions! What were they thinking? I’d rather have Bowles’ 9-8 season than this 4-13 year!

Sorry. Just practicing for next season’s posts.

  20. Ed Says:

Bowles is a real problem for the Glazers if the team squeezes into the playoffs by winning out and Commanders beating Falcons.

It’s tough to fire a coach if they make the playoffs but this is a different situation as Bowles is calling defensive plays and the teams losses have been overwhelmingly because of the defense getting shredded by Kirt Cousins and Cooper Rush. If Bowles was such a good defensive mind he would have done what all the other coaches in the NFL have done, get pressure on these pocket passers and knock them around.

I think that the teams losses needs a new identity and it starts with a head coach that is better at motivatiion and discipline. Bowles simply is a coordinator not a HC. Prove me wrong but his HV resume is below average on win/loss side.

  21. Mac Says:

I think Coen is gone in 3 weeks. He will be Pats Bears or Saints new coach. It’s coming. We will be stuck with Toilet and realize at next seasons end what a massive mistake that was as we go 6-11 and are not left with a coach who refuses to adjust his defense to what team he is playing. Sad times in Tampa when with the talent we have should be the polar opposite.

  22. Bartow Buc Says:

Nope, I think Coen stays another year with Coach Bowles !! He loves working with Baker and all the talent on the Bucs offense and sees a Super Bowl opportunity coming right around the corner. The Bucs just need a little more strength on defense and the sky’s the limit for this team.

Keep fighting Bucs !! Beat the Panthers!!

  23. Chef Baker Says:

Would love it if we can pay the man from leaving but we need a DC so Todd can turn his focus away from the defense and just be the HC. Still wondering why suh , jpp and shaq was let go. Man I miss those guys! Go Bucs! Let’s beat the stinking panthers!

  24. Andy Sorbo Says:

You all need to quit worrying about the when..and worry about the why. Right now. The greatest gift would be..an Atlanta loss on Sunday night..nothing else..nothing more..we win on Sunday..they lose..and we are back in the driver’s seat again. Worry about next year in the off season..if Liam is going..there is nothing anyone can do to stop him..so for now..let’s worry about this year…have you become like the rest of the fair weather fans..and given up hope already ???? If so…You Suck…go cheet for another team…

  25. TD Says:

Bowles has proven he’s not the one to make the decisions to get this team where it needs to be . Both super bowls won with offensive coaches, but they keep hiring the same lame system coaches

  26. Chad Says:

You keep Liam by getting rid of bowels. Simple as that. Liam wanted to come to Tampa because of baker, give him the money to stay on as head coach. Todd and his defense has cost the Bucs at least 4-5 games this year.
