Baker Mayfield Passing Chart
December 18th, 2024Now this is a cool chart.
Joe apologizes for being redundant, but props to Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen. He is a consistent man.
As with nearly every game this year, Coen frowns on throwing deep. He’s got a dink-and-dunk Bucs offense that is working to near perfection.
Case in point is the 40-point bomb Coen and the Bucs offense dropped on arguably the best defense in the league.
One could argue the offensive explosion was because Coen ordered Baker Mayfield to throw farther than 20 yards downfield. But that only happened four times. Three ended up as touchdowns!
Joe is not a believer in coincidences in football, and that stat right there tells Joe that Coen had smartly lulled the Chargers into thinking the Bucs wouldn’t throw deep. Coen both surprised and caught the Chargers’ defensive backs with their pants down.
Mike Evans told Joe in the locker room that he believed his 35-yard touchdown happened, in part, because the Chargers were not expecting a long pass. Boom! Six points!
Mayfield’s passing chart from the win is below courtesy of NextGen Stats. It’s pretty cool.
Might Coen unleash the hounds a little more as a result of what happened in Los Angeles on Sunday?

Coen is doing a great job. He and the players are meshing well together, especially this past Sunday. Baker is baking down the field. It has all come together. Agreed, we should see a lot more deep playing too.

If this is in fact, a conscious effort, then it is quite clever. Don’t change it up, especially if it worked on the #1 defense. If they start throwing deep more often, the interceptions will not go away, more than likely. Oh yes, and don’t forget to run, preferably with Bucky & Tuck much more often. Tucker has the speed to house a lot of those long runs Bucky can’t. While Bucky is as a shifty as a headless chicken, his top end speed is not elite.
Coen must stay at all costs! If you lose him, you may also lose your quarterback, and by that I mean his growth and production. Give Baker the same offensive coordinator for more than one year for the first time in his career!

It would be nice. I think we are all rooting for Evans to surpass 1,000 yards and catch as many TDs as he can in the process.

I love how Joe calls Coen’s offense ‘dink and dunk’ instead of West Coast. I can’t wait to see Joe’s deep ball offense do better than Coen’s 29ppg offense! I like Joe for OC when Coen leaves with his ‘dink and dunk’ offense 🙂
Seriously though, if Bake and Mike can connect on the deep throws, why not? Take what the offense gives you.
The Bucs can’t afford a letdown against America’s team. The Bucs need to trample them on national TV and show how good we are. Can Bowles win a primetime game – what’s his record?

This was great to see. And now that I’ve seen it, I can’t unsee it. More of this please. Great job by Bake

even game announcer predicted they’d run clock just a split second before that snap

I’d be VERY careful and letting Baker BAKE on long passes this Sunday night. Aren’t the Cowgirls leading the league in INTs?
December 18th, 2024 at 9:27 am
@killian :No we’re not all worried about any 1 players personal stats especially when he is being force fed leading to ints. ROOT for the “team” and if his stupid record comes with it fine got 3 games to win and need NO distractions.

ME13 is getting back to 100% healthy. D###ed I wish Harbaugh had left CG14 alone, the SOB. I hope the Ravens are roasted beyond roadkill in the playoffs. Mike just wants to help his team get in the playoffs. He’s focused on Dallas. As all Bucs fans like moi should be. Looking forward to Sunday night. Go get ’em, HOFamer Mike and Bucs!! Coen better know this offense by now. He’s not going anywhere if he has half a brain in his head. I still want to see some QB options called.

Joe, It would be interesting to see a chart of the first half of the season passing versus the second half to see if Cohen has modified his calls as he’s gotten used to abilities of players.

Coen has our offense Rolling, Bowles did better by not giving L A time to test the Secondary (thanks). Baker watch out for # 11, he is a Real Danger! Buccaneers Can’t Let Up, please keep Attacking!

orlbucfan,
That tackle that ended Godwin season was illegal and just ignored by everyone in the league and media. A so called “hip drop tackle” is designed to injure, throwing the tackler’s entire body weight on opponent’s legs and ankles.

The 1 TD to Mike was an example of Bakers long ball. The dude doesn’t throw “moonballs”, he throws lasers. That throw was around 45 yards on a rope. And he can throw 60 yard bullets all day.
There are only a handful of QB’s in the league that could make that throw.
Lot’s of styles for passers. Brett Farve and Tom Brady 2 opposite examples. Baker is more like Farve than Brady in the way he plays and how he throws the ball for better or worse. I think he’s got a higher ceiling than Farve though, if he stays with the Buc’s and Jason continues to bring new talent in.
